The painful truth and a joyful reunion.

The days went by, Tay showed a great capacity to learn new things very easily, he almost mastered Spanish although he still had trouble identifying and pronouncing some words, but playing the guitar, he seemed to have been born with that talent.

When Katherine and David went to school Tay stayed at home with Carmen and helped her with her paintings and sculptures, He was amazed to see the beautiful landscapes and the Aztec, Mayan and Inca sculptures that she molded with clay, on two occasions Gonzalo took him to the workshop and he tried to help as much as he could but mechanics was not his thing, even so he understood how to disassemble some parts of the cars.
Time flew by, it was Saturday and Gonzalo went out with Tay and David to buy some spare parts he needed for his mower and some other things that Carmen had asked him for, the two boys were singing and laughing in Gonzalo's pickup truck, when they arrived at the store the three of them got out of the pickup and looked for the things they needed to buy, after buying everything they needed Gonzalo asked Tay to help him carry what they had bought to the pickup while he stayed to buy some candy for David.

Before getting into the pickup Tay saw a sign on the wall that caught his attention, it was a poster of a missing person and it had his picture on it, he felt as if a hand was squeezing his heart and he could hardly hold back the tears, when he saw David leaving the store with his candy Tay quickly ripped off the sign and put it in his pocket, he ran to the pickup and climbed into the trunk to leave the things.

David approached Tay to give him a piece of candy and he received it trying to force a smile.

David: What's wrong Tay? Why are you sad.

Tay: Nothing, it's nothing, I just sprained my hand on the way up.

David: It hurts a lot?, you should be more careful (he smiles tenderly).

Tay felt a little better to see him, when Gonzalo arrived with the last purchases he checked Tay's hand after David told him what happened, then he took him out of the trunk carrying him.

The three of them got into the pickup and started their way back home, David was talking to his dad about the things he did yesterday at school and Tay was playing with the candy in his mouth while he was looking out the window, the worries he had already forgotten started to invade him again and this time he felt a great sadness in his heart after seeing the missing person's sign.

Tay: "They were looking for me"

Tay began to feel anxiety, despair, sadness and guilt.

But before falling into a possible madness he looked at the beautiful orange sky of the afternoon and remembered the promise he made when he arrived with his new family, that filled him with courage and managed to keep his sanity.

Tay: "Today is the day, no matter what happens I will not break my promise".

Back at the house, Katherine was waiting for her dad and her two brothers to return as she squashed her wet nose on the glass, she looked at the beautiful reddish orange color of the sky, it was like one of the pictures her mom once painted.

Katherine: It's very beautiful.

She said before opening the window to let in some air but her cell phone rang and vibrated on the table, she got down from the table and sat on the chair, she unlocked her cell phone and saw that it was a notification from her group of friends when she touched it she started to read it, it was the announcement of a missing child, when she touched the image to see it her eyes got bigger and she put her hand on her mouth.

Gonzalo's pickup truck rattled and the sound of the engine could be heard through the lonely streets of the neighborhood, Tay was a little depressed and scared, he was still thinking about how to tell them the whole truth, it was eating his soul not being able to know how they would react, if they would forgive him or throw him out of the house as the abuser he thought he was, soon the houses of the neighbors he already knew began to appear, the minutes seemed like hours and he felt a great pressure in his chest.

When they arrived Tay tried to pretend to be cheerful while he helped to put the things in the garage and take the rest of the things inside the house, when they entered Carmen welcomed them giving them a kiss to the three of them, then she took the things Tay had and took them to the kitchen, Tay sat in the living room thinking about the moment to tell them but Katherine appeared and sat next to him, Tay looked at her and saw clearly that something was bothering her and that made her sad, despite having a rebellious and braggart character she was not very good at hiding her emotions, she was like an open window.

Tay: What's wrong, why that long face? (He tried to hide his own sadness)

Katherine: Nothing, it's just that ....

Tay: SOMEONE LIKE ME DESERVES TO GO TO JAIL AND LIVE ALONE.

Tay: IF THEY HATE ME NOW I WILL UNDERSTAND, I DESERVE IT AFTER ALL.

Carmen comforted Katherine who had also started to cry, Gonzalo was serious sitting on the sofa until he got up and stood in front of him, Tay looked at his face for a few seconds and lowered his head with his eyes full of tears.

Katherine joined the hug forming a very touching scene when Carmen went to pick Tay up and saw them and she hugged them too.

Carmen took Tay's paw and led him to the entrance of the house, the two brothers followed them closely, when they arrived at the door Gonzalo was already waiting for them, he was wearing a black jacket, a white t-shirt, a dark blue jean and brown hiking boots.

Gonzalo: Are you ready, son?

Tay: And if they get mad at me and if they yell at me again or want to punish me? (Tay's voice trembled).

Gonzalo: That night after the party my very drunk brother-in-law found my wife's bikini in the bathroom and put it on, then he put on a wooden Aztec mask that we had on the walls.

Gonzalo: After they recorded him clowning around he ended up sleeping in the kitchen.

Gonzalo: In the morning Carmen was so focused on tidying up the kitchen that when she found him she got the shock of her life.

Carmen: I didn't imagine finding a big mass of blond hair with an Aztec warrior mask, I thought it was a ghost or something like that (She said laughing).

The four of them laughed, then Brenda asked them if they had already eaten something and Carmen said no, then they both went to the kitchen to prepare dinner.

In the kitchen Brenda chopped the vegetables and Carmen fried the meat. The two girls helped by washing the dishes together, Izzi soaping them while Katherine rinsed them and put them in the dryer.

Jason and Gonzalo picked up the garbage from the living room and cleaned the couches.

Tay and David were picking up the pizza boxes and tubs in garbage bags.

After half an hour everything was clean, Jason took the garbage bags to the dumpster outside then sat down across from Gonzalo and they started talking while waiting for dinner.

The four children sat in a circle on the floor and began to get to know each other better, Izzi liked Katherine a lot, she liked the way she thought, she realized that in spite of having a gentle and delicate appearance she had a rough character, she had a certain similarity with Jules but she was calmer and David was very gentlemanly, he is a sweetheart Izzi thought.
