"writing": "Chaos Backstories: Tails\n\n1998, Knothole\n\n“My love…”\n\nHe ran and ran through the cold weather, holding a box in his arms and making sure the contents that were inside to not get wet. He turned an alleyway and rested behind the many trash bags lying around. He looked down at his luggage and unwrapped what was inside.\n\nA cub fox, barely born and fast asleep. He the color of his parents, golden and white fur. He also sported two tails. He was born the night his mother died. Rosemary had died giving life to her only child.\n\nAmadeus, the husband of his deceased wife vowed to look after his child but after the realization that he might be hunted down by Maximilian after the sudden death of Jules, he couldn’t risk it.\n\n“...I’m sorry.”\n\nHe covered the cub back with the blanket. Amadeus stood up and started to run again, hoping to find the place he was looking for.\n\nAfter hours of wandering through the heavy rain, he finally found it. An orphanage.\n\nHe walked up the stairs and set down the box on the steps. He kneeled down to his son, he looked at him. Still fast asleep with a teddy bear by his side. He pulled up some papers just a tad bit to be visible. He stood up and pressed the doorbell.\n\nHe looked down at his child once more and retreated.\n\nThe door of the orphanage opened, revealing an old woman in her nightgown. She looked down and saw the small box. She picked it up and unwrapped the blanket. She almost dropped the box when she saw the small fox cub. She took out the papers that came along with the child. They were his birth certificate and a letter.\n\nShe opened the letter.\n\n‘To whoever reads this, this is my child. His name is Miles Prower. Something occurred in my life that I have to leave my child behind, for his own safety. But I will come back for him when everything has been resolved. Please, take good care of him.\nHis father, Amadeus Prower.’\n\nThe woman looked back at the cub who had just woken up. The woman smiled at the cub and folded the letter back and placed it inside the box. She walked back inside and closed the doors.\n\n____________________________________________________________________\n\nDifferent 2003\n\nI woke up with my body all sore and stiff. This is normal, I always wake up like this but there are days where I’m spared from this pain.\n\nI sat up on my bed and threw my blanket off and swung my legs over my bed. I got off the bed, grabbed my uniform and went straight to the bathroom. I climbed up the stool next to the sink and started getting myself ready for another day.\n\nI’m the different one out of everybody here in the orphanage. Mostly because I’m the youngest and most naive. But there are still things that define me. My intelligence is one of my strongest things about me. I may be five but I have a knack for anything for robotics and engineering. But even with my smartness, I’m not noticed or praised for it. Doesn’t matter though, most of the others won’t understand my inventions.\n\nI gurgled the water that I had in my mouth and spit it out into the sink. I climbed off the stool and started to dress. I made sure to not touch the many bruises that covered my body.\n\nThat’s another thing about this place, if you’re different, you’ll get punished. Not by the teacher’s though, by the older kids. As I said before, due to me being so young, I usually get picked on. The older kids take advantage of me and use me for their own personal gain. They would send me to do things I know I shouldn’t do but I do it as they promise me that they wouldn’t hurt me in any way. It was always a lie. I still do it only because I’ve become used to it.\n\nOnce I finished becoming dressed I walked out the bathroom and headed towards the cafeteria. There were only a few kids and staff. I’m usually the early birds, and I’ve used this time to get some alone time. I grabbed my breakfast and sat in the corner farthest away from everyone. I picked up my spoon and started eating.\n\nEverything here wasn’t so bad. There was this one lady that did take care of me. It was the lady that found me that night I was abandoned. But only two years ago had she retired and ultimately passed away. I was devastated. That was when the abuse started to happen.\n\nI put down my fork on the tray and walked to the dish counter and left it for the staff to clean. I walked out the cafeteria as the rest of the orphanage started to walk in. I walked to my hiding place, it was in the attic of the school and nobody knew where it was, and I did. I walked into a closet and closed it. I turned around and pushed opened a door that leads to some staircases. I walked upstairs to be met with all my things.\n\nAlthough small, it stored tons of things in here. I walked over to my pile of pillows and sat myself down. I grabbed the remote that was left aside and turned out the small TV the attic stored. The first time I came here I found many abandoned things like the TV, CD player, a small empty fridge, lights, and a microwave. Most of those were already broken, but with my intelligence, I was able to fix them.\n\nI started up the CD player with one of the movies also left here in a giant box. Most of the movies in the box were action movies. I hadn’t been able to get done watching half of the movies in the box.\n\nFor as much as I would love too, I can’t stay here forever. I only come here during my free time. It’s usually rare that I get to spend my entire day up here but it doesn’t matter. As long as I’m able to be productive up here I’m fine. This is also the place where I build my inventions. I have a giant box of tools that I keep. I mostly use them to fix things but I also use them to create.\n\nI looked at the time and saw that it was almost time for me to go to class. I sighed as I turned off the movie and walked down the stairs. I got out the closet and went to my class.\n\n____________________________________________________________________\n\nMore Bruises\n\nI sat in the garden of the orphanage working on another invention. It was lunch time but I wasn’t hungry, so I came down here to spend the rest of the time.\n\n“Great! It’s finished!” I declared as I raised it up to the sky. Suddenly it was snatched from my hands. It was one of the bullies.\n\n“What did you create this time furball?” He cocked as he observed my invention.\n\n“That’s none of your business!” I said as I jumped up to grab my inventions back but I was too short. Suddenly I was grabbed by the arm by two other boys.\n\n“Let me go!” I yelled as I struggled in their grasp. Their grip was too strong for me.\n\n“How about we do something to this little trinket.” The bully said as he placed the small object on the same bench I sat on just moments ago.\n\nHe raised his hand and balled it into a fist, “Why don’t I crush it?”\n\n“No!” I yelled, trying to get him to refrain but it was no use. He raised his fist up in the air and in a second his arm flew down and crush the poor object into millions of pieces.\n\n“No…” I whispered as I tried to contain my tears. The bully walked closer to me and raised my head for our eyes to meet.\n\n“You know how things go around here. We told you that your ‘inventions’ mean nothing. And you know what we’re gonna do to you right?” He said as he squished my cheeks. “Just do what you got to do,” I mumbled as I lowered my head. “Good.”\n\nThe air in my lungs was suddenly knocked out of me as he punched me hard in the stomach. I tried to regain some air but it was knocked out of me again as he kept punching me repeatedly. Soon he punched other areas of my body, most surely causing bruises to form.\n\nOnce he had his fill, the other two let me go and I fell to the floor, pain coursing through my body. I looked at them as they went out of the garden.\n\nI just laid there, waiting for the pain to go away.\n\nI can’t stay here any longer.\n\n____________________________________________________________________\n\nRun\n\nThat same night I packed my things. I grabbed everything that I needed to survive outside the orphanage. I brought juice, a couple of fruits, snacks, tools, first aid kit, clothes, and some of my favorite movies. I also grabbed my papers for safekeeping.\n\nI know this is wrong but I can’t stand being here in this hellhole any longer. I packed my things and walked out the building once everyone was asleep. I stopped in front of the wall that separated the inside from the outside. I looked at my tails and an idea popped into my head. I squatted down and started turning my tails. Suddenly I felt my feet not touching the ground anymore.\n\nI was flying!\n\nI twirled my tails faster and I start flying up and up until I was on the wall. I slowed down and I slowly hovered to the ground. I started walking away from the orphanage to wherever I felt I need to go.\n\nI walked and walked until I reached the subway. I read the sign that told of the destinations. Once I was done reading, I walked down the stairs. I passed through security, the guards were napping, giving me the advantage of not paying for a ticket. I waited for the right train to get here. Once it arrived I stepped in and took a seat far away from the cameras. There were some people there as well but they didn’t seem to notice. Good.\n\nThe ride to my destination was quiet and peaceful. Once the train stopped at my destination I got off. In front of me was the train station. I walked into the large pristine building made of marble and looked at the trains rides they offered.\n\nTrain Leaving Soon For West Side Island\n\nWest Side island, huh? That sounds like the perfect spot for me. Just as I was about to enter, I realized I needed a ticket get in. I had no money so I couldn’t afford one. Just my luck.\n\nOut of the corner of my eye, I saw a ticket, it was for west side island. Guess my luck turned around. I grabbed the ticket and showed it to the security guard. He let me pass and I rush towards the train, getting inside just in time before it could depart. I grabbed an empty seat and set my backpack to the side, looking out the window.\n\nI couldn’t believe it, I’m free.\n\n____________________________________________________________________\n\nThanks for the Save\n\nI woke up when the sun hit my eyes, I yawned as I looked at the clock on the walls of the train. It was early morning and it seems that there were still ways to go. Instead of going back to sleep, I stared at the scenery the island had to offer. It was magnificent. I could stare at it all day.\n\nThe time came and the train finally arrived at west side island. I grabbed my belongings and headed out the train. My smile turned into a frown when I looked at the state of the station. It was not like how I imagined it to be. That didn’t bother though, I went on my way and left the station to find it to be surrounded by a small town. To the very left of it was a rainforest.\n\nI wasn’t sure why but my instincts told me to go to the forest. So I did. I ventured through the town, picking up any food that was left around, and occasionally stealing from local vendors.\n\nI walked into the forest, it was thick and filled to the brim with leaves and birds, not to mention it was humid af.\n\nI ventured through to find a place I could stay but so far no luck. I walked passed a trail that leads to an area I did not know. I followed the trail to wherever it took me.\n\nAs I walked, I felt something spy on me. I looked around but I saw nothing. It was probably my imagination.\n\nSuddenly I was knocked down by something. I fell to the floor and I looked around to see I was surrounded by tons of different looking robots. They seemed angry and have their weapons aim straight at me.\n\nI was afraid, I had no idea what to do. I just closed my eyes and awaited my death.\n\nBut that didn’t happen. I felt a harsh wind circle around me. I opened my eyes to find someone in front of a pile of scrap metal.\n\nIt was a blue hedgehog with green highlights, probably the age of an adult. I stood up from the ground and I walked towards my savior but he disappeared in a flash. I stood there stunned.\n\nWhat just happened?\n\nI looked towards the way he left. He didn’t even say ‘are you alright or anything.’ I really want to thank him. I decided to follow him to wherever he went too.\n\nHe’s pretty quick, I’ll give him that. I ran and ran, following his footprints that he left behind. There were so many footsteps that they were probably in the hundreds. I was growing tiresome of searching for that blue hedgehog, I thought of giving up until I heard someone’s voice up ahead.\n\nI slowly made my way to the sandy beach at the end of the jungle and hid behind a bush. I peeked my head up to see who was there on the beach.\n\nIt was that blue hedgehog. He was standing near a broken down red plane with a couple of tools and a worn out notebook in hand. He seemed frustrated as he tried to, what it seems like, repair his plane.\n\n“Stupid plane!” He yelled furiously as dropped the notebook to the ground and threw one of the tools at the plane only for it to bounce back and hit him in the face. I couldn’t help but chuckle at his attempts.\n\nSuddenly a loud thud could be heard from miles away. The blue hedgehog stopped what he was doing and in a flash as he sped through the sand to wherever the noise came from.\n\nI slowly came out from the bush and walked over to his plane. I observed the inside and its inner workings. It was all rusty and needed tuning from what I was able to get from it.\n\nI went down and grabbed the notebook that lay forgotten on the sandy surface. I looked through the pages to see it filled with notes and blueprints for many things. I stopped at the page with a blueprint of a plane. I skimmed through the notes and picked up one of the tools that lay around. I set the book aside for now and looked back at the plane in front of me.\n\nI could fix this plane up for him as a token of appreciation. Alright, let’s get you fixed.\n\n____________________________________________________________________\n\nAfter about an hour later the plane was almost complete. I was doing some last minute tuning when I heard footsteps coming near. I didn’t pay much attention to it as I kept on tuning.\n\n“Hey!” Someone yelled and I jumped and caused myself to hit the sand beneath me. I was shadowed over a tall blue hedgehog with his arms crossed and a not too pleasant expression. I was very frightened.\n\n“What were you doing to my plane?” The blue one exclaimed as he bent down to get a better look at me. It felt like I was under a microscope. He was tall and very intimidating. I was so terrified that I didn’t dare say anything.\n\n“Are you going to answer me or what?!” He yelled demanding me to answer.\n\n“I-I w-was f-fixing it!” I hastily stuttered.\n\n“You were fixing it? Why?” He questioned me again as he picked up the notebook and checked the inside of his plane.\n\n“You saved me f-from those r-robots back in then j-jungle and I wanted t-to show my appreciation b-by fixing y-your plane,” I explained as I watched him continue to observe his plane. He turned to face me with an impressed look on his face as he closed the book in hand.\n\n“What’s your name and age?” He asked. “M-Miles Prower, I’m 5 years old,” I answered. He raised an eyebrow in disbelief but quickly shook it away.\n\n“I got to say you got a knack for fixing things. So you’re welcome and thanks for fixing my plane but now it’s time for you to go home to your mom.” He said before he started pushing me towards the jungle.\n\n“But I don’t have a mom!” I exclaimed as I turned around to stop him from pushing me.\n\n“Father?”\n\n“Nope.”\n\n“Brother? Sister?”\n\n“Nuh-uh.”\n\nHe just looked at me in confusion as he had no clue what to do with me, or better yet how to get rid of me.\n\n“So where are you from?” He asked. “An orphanage, but I escaped!” I answered. He sighed in defeat as he closed his eyes and crossed his arms. I waited for him to answer but there was a sudden explosion from somewhere far away.\n\n“Robutt-nik!” He exclaimed as he suddenly speeds towards the sound of the explosion. Not wanting to wait for the hedgehog’s return, I sped off after him.\n\nJust as he trashed another band of robots, I quickly caught up to him.\n\n“Y-You?! What are you doing?! You’re going to get killed, let me handle this!” The azure one yelled as he dodged an attack from a flying robot.\n\n“I can be useful to you!” I exclaimed. “No, you won’t! Now go away and stay out of danger!” He yelled again as he knocked down another robot.\n\n“I’ll show you!” I insisted as I twirled my tails at fast speeds and I knocked down a couple robots that were in the sky. I flew down next to the azure hedgehog and raised my hands in the air, “See!”\n\nHe sighed in defeat, “Fine, I’ll let you tag along but if you get hurt badly that’s it.”\n\n“Yay! Oh, thank you! I promise I won’t disappoint!” I cheered as I hugged his legs. I felt him stroke his hand over my head, “Okay, okay, that’s enough. Let’s go and get my plane, looks like the fat man went to another area.” He stated and started walking back to the direction where he left his plane.\n\n“By the way, I never asked your name.” I pointed out as I walked beside him.\n\n“The name’s Sonic, Sonic the Hedgehog.” He answered as he put his hands behind his neck. “Good to know sir!” I said as I looked forward. Sonic suddenly stopped in his tracks, I turned around to face him when I heard the dorkiest laugh.\n\n“Sir?! Ha,ha,ha… You think I’m a grown man?! Hahaha!” He continued to laugh. “Are you not an adult?” I asked confused. “Okay, sure, I may be taller than your average hedgehog but I can assure you I’m not an adult.”\n\n“Well, how old are you then?” I asked.\n\n“Twelve..” He said. “T-Twelve?!” I repeated in disbelief as he began to walk again.\n\n“You’ll get used to it.” He said as he gestured me to follow. I did as I was told and started walking beside him again.\n\n“By the way, can I call you Tails?” He suddenly asked.\n\nI stopped in my tracks, “Why would you want to call me that?” I asked.\n\n“Well, you have two Tails. I like having nicknames for people who have special things about them. So, do you like it?” He explained.\n\n“Tails, it sounds great.” I agreed.\n\n“Great! It’ll be easier to remember than Miles.”\n\n____________________________________________________________________\n\nNightmares\n\nSonic and I traveled to most of the island as we trashed badniks, which is what those robots are called, save animals and villages, and have a battle with the one and only Robotnik. It’s pretty fun but dangerous too. I also learned that he has a fear of water. It’s pretty funny to see such a strong person be afraid of the thing that keeps us alive.\n\nI still haven’t gotten Sonic’s full trust though. As much as I try I just can’t seem to make him trust me or even befriend me. Sure, he doesn’t seem like the one to be social with people given his behavior but it wouldn’t kill him. I am journeying with him, he should at least get to know me better.\n\nI should get to him know him better.\n\nWe were camping out in the mystic cave as the sun had set not too long ago. We built a fire and set up our backpacks as pillows. Sonic was the last one to go to sleep, he said something about keeping watch but I know he was just as tired as me.\n\nI was lying on my side my back facing Sonic. I could hear his shuffling, he was also making grunting noises. He kept shuffling harder and rougher until he was almost kicking the dirt beneath him.\n\n“Ow,” I yelled as Sonic suddenly punched me in the shoulder from his jerking movements. I sat up and looked down at him.\n\nHe was sweating and… scared? I have never seen him scared.\n\n“N-no… stop…” He mumbled under his breath. Is he having a nightmare? I began shaking him awake.\n\n“Sonic, wake up.” I shook him harder when he didn’t respond. “Sonic, come on. You’re scaring me.” I shook again. He was starting to worry me. Nothing worked, I only had one other choice left. I raised hand up to the sky and…\n\nSLAP!!\n\n“What happened?!” Sonic sprung up from his sleep.\n\n“You’re awake!” I said. “What happened?” Sonic groans as he holds his hand overhead. “I think you were having a nightmare.” I speculated. He sighed. “Yeah.” He said before lying back down.\n\n“You don’t want to talk about it?” I asked him as I too laid down. “No.” He said bluntly as turned the other way, back facing me. “Oh, okay,” I replied before falling back asleep.\n\n“Do you want to know?” His voice suddenly broke the silence.\n\n“If you’re willing to tell me?” I said as I turned over to face him. He sat up again and looked down at his hands.\n\n“Those nightmares, in truth…” He began but hesitation came soon after. His hands were clenched and he looked spaced out. I wanted for him to continue but I didn’t want to be nosy. His ears would twitch every couple seconds, it was like is he was listening to someone.\n\n“The truth is…” He spoke, “... I… don’t know where they come from.” He explained.\n\nI looked at him confused, “Don’t know?”\n\n“I’m not sure myself, but doctors have said it might be some sort of trauma I could have suffered during my childhood.” He continued. “Do have a clear thought of what it could be? I mean, you should remember something like that, right?” I questioned even further.\n\n“No… I… I suffer from… amnesia.” He explained more. “Amnesia? How bad is it?”\n\n“I don’t know anything until last year when my amnesia began.” He said as he held his head in his hand.\n\n“You don’t remember your home, family, or parents?” I asked him. He only shook his head. I bowed my head in sympathy.\n\n“I guess we have something in common then,” I mumbled. Sonic looked at me in question, “What in common?”\n\n“We both have no one to remember.”\n\nSonic stayed silent as he continued to process what I had just said.\n\n“Remember? You suffer from amnesia too?” He questioned as he put his hand on my shoulder to get my attention.\n\n“No, I mean, you have no one to remember because you don’t remember anything, and I… I have no one to remember because I don’t have anyone that I want to remember,” I explained as I sniffed.\n\n“You said you were from an orphanage, was it bad?” He asked. “Yeah, it was the worst.”\n\n“Was the person in charge an old hag who made everyone clean the place?” Sonic asked. I only chuckled, “No, but good reference. I was bullied and I suffered from abuse from my bullies.” I explained.\n\n“Is that why you’re covered in bruises?”\n\n“Yeah, sometimes I even wonder if I have something broken.”\n\n“Must’ve been rough being there.”\n\n“Yeah, but I’m glad I got out of there. It was just the thing I needed.”\n\nWe stayed in silence, staring up at the ceiling of the cave. It sparkled even though there was no outside light source. Sonic yawned suddenly, breaking the silence, and began getting himself comfortable on the cold floor.\n\n“Welp, I’m about to hit the hay, again. You gonna sleep?” He said as he covered himself with his blanket again. “Yeah, I am pretty tired,” I replied as I followed his example.\n\n“Goodnight,” I said.\n\n“Night…” Sonic said before we both fell asleep again that night.\n\n____________________________________________________________________\n\nI thought you wouldn’t make it!\n\nSonic and I hit the road that morning and headed through oil ocean and we’re coming close to Metropolis. Oil ocean was fun and very dangerous, we got to set it on fire once we were out of there. Though Sonic would always try to get the chance to leave me behind by setting a bit fire or leaving debris in my way.\n\nIt’s been nothing new. He would always do this every chance he gets to get rid of me. Sometimes I wonder if I should stop being with him, but something inside tells me to not leave his side.\n\nThe night of Sonic’s nightmare, things became different between us. He has become more distant than he already was. He would only talk to me if it was about Robotnik and or if I was okay. I know once this adventure is over, I’ll have to continue on my own. I guess Sonic is just preparing me for that.\n\n“Here we are. Looks like it’s heavily reinforced.” Sonic observed. “Looks like you’ll have to stay here.”\n\n“Stay?! I can handle myself just fine!” I shouted as I put my hands on my hips.\n\n“Look, it’s too dangerous for you. Just stay here and you’ll be safe.” Sonic repeated as he started to get annoyed.\n\n“Too dangerous?! What about those other places we’ve been in?! I’ve been able to keep my own just fine so what makes this place any different?!” I countered in anger.\n\n“Those places don’t compare here! Just shut up and stay put!” Sonic blurted out as he began walking away.\n\n“Why! Why do you keep trying to get rid of me?! What have I done to you?!” I fired question after question as I grabbed a hold of Sonic’s hand. He snatched it away and turned to face me.\n\n“You wanna know you little bastard?! You have been keeping me down this whole time! I was fine on my own until you came! I’m not some babysitter nor somebody who’s gonna take care of your ass just because you’re all alone!”\n\nHe paused.\n\n“Sure, you’ve been able to hold your own but you’re nothing but a child. A child cannot survive in this world.”\n\nI was paralyzed by his words. I bowed my head as I let the tears run down my cheeks.\n\n“So that’s how you feel about me? Just a child? Well then… ” I paused as I gripped my backpack straps tightly.\n\n“I’ll just have to prove to you how much of a child I am!” My tails started to twirl lifting me up the ground and I started flying into the confusing place that was Metropolis.\n\n“Wait!! You can’t go in there!” Sonic tried to stop me but it was too late as I was already out of earshot.\n\n____________________________________________________________________\n\nIt had been almost an hour since I left Sonic behind and ventured into Metropolis. This place was huge and was hoarded by enemies.\n\nSonic was right, it was way too dangerous. I didn’t want to admit it though.\n\nJust as I thought I could see the way out, Robotnik came out of nowhere.\n\n“Oh, ho, ho, ho! Look what we have here! A snooping fox. By the way, where is that annoying blue hedgehog?” He blubbered.\n\n“He’s not with me anymore! If you wanna fight, fight me!” I shouted back.\n\nI was shaking intensely. I was frightened. I can’t defeat this guy on my own, I usually let Sonic take the lead but with him gone, I’m not sure if I’ll survive.\n\n“Fight you?! Ha! Don’t be ridiculous!” He laughed. “I won’t have to put up a fight to get rid of you.”\n\n“W-what do you mean by that?” I asked him.\n\n“Simple. I just use this gun here and you’re dead simple as that. Now hold still.” He stated as he aimed the gun towards me.\n\nI want to run but my legs aren’t listening to me. I could only stare at him. I backed away slowly until I tripped and landed on my rear end. I closed my eyes and waited for my demise.\n\nLife is cruel, isn’t it?\n\nThe shot fired but I felt no pain. I opened one of my eyes and saw the unexpected.\n\nSonic.\n\nSonic was standing there in front of me with his arms spread wide as if he was protecting me.\n\nI looked over to the side and saw a stain of blood, the dark liquid pouring out and flowing down his leg onto the metallic floor.\n\n“Sonic?! No matter, as long as I get rid of one of you, my plans will be achieved.” Robotnik said before retreating.\n\nI could only stare at Sonic who was still protecting me. He had his back facing me but I could clearly see the large breaths he was taking.\n\n“S-Sonic?” I stuttered his name, tears creeping their way to the corner of my eyes.\n\nHe suddenly collapsed in front of me.\n\n“Sonic!” I called out as I crawled towards him. I turned him, back lying down, and I tried to get him to see me.\n\n“Sonic?! Can you hear me?!” Called out to him, examining his wound. It was pretty deep and bad.\n\n“Tails… you’re safe.” He mumbled as he held his side.\n\n“W-Why did you come to save me?” I asked him.\n\n“That doesn’t matter right now. I need to get this healed.” He said as he slowly stood up, clenching his side to stop himself from bleeding any further.\n\n“Where are you going?” I asked him as I followed him. “I’ll… urgh… I'll explain on our way…” He stuttered as he began walking back.\n\n“To where exactly?! We have nowhere to go!” I tried to reason as an effort to stop him.\n\n“We do… we need the tornado to get there though.” He said as he ripped a part of his shirt and put it on his wound.\n\n“Fine. Let me fix this though.” I said and I grabbed my backpack and opened it. I grabbed an old first aid kit and opened it. I grabbed the hydrogen peroxide and poured some of it onto a cotton ball. I took off the piece of shirt Sonic had on his wound and pressed the cotton ball onto it. Sonic hissed at the sting but he knew this was for his own good. Once I cleaned the blood off I grabbed another cotton ball and covered the wound. I then wrapped a bandage around his waist to keep the ball secure and to put pressure on his wound.\n\n“There. That should help you.” I said as I packed everything back into the backpack.\n\n“Hey.” He said.\n\n“Yeah?” I responded.\n\n“Thanks.”\n\nI only nodded at his response before heading back to the tornado.\n\n____________________________________________________________________\n\nIt has been an hour since we headed to get the tornado and set off to the place Sonic kept talking about. I was in the driver’s seat this time while Sonic was in the backseat. He started to feel weak and he couldn’t keep up anymore, luckily he made it all the way to the tornado.\n\nHe was sleeping soundly even though the engine roared loudly. He was pale and sweating. Sure enough, he has a fever. The bleeding didn’t stop either. It just kept coming. I’m afraid he won’t make it, but I can’t lose hope.\n\nWe were nearing our destination, I slowly dived to the ground to get a clear view of where to land. Houses covered the luscious greenery that was South Island. At the far side of the island did we finally arrive at the place Sonic said. I landed the Tornado ways from the house and shut off the tornado. I unbuckled myself and turned over to see Sonic still asleep.\n\n“Sonic. Sonic, wake up.” I whispered as I poked him in the face. He slowly opened his tired eyes, “W-We there yet?” He whispered as he looked at our surroundings.\n\n“We’re here. Let me help you out.” I said as I started to unbuckle him. I lifted him up from his seat and floated him down to the ground. He leaned against the tornado for support as his legs still felt weak.\n\nWe started walking towards the house Sonic had said before. It was a simple house with a garden in front. It was peaceful and it looked well taken care of. We stopped in front of the door and knocked.\n\nThe door opened revealing a small pink hedgehog who looked about 9 years old. Her joyful face turned into one of worry once she set her eyes upon Sonic.\n\n“S-Sonic? What’s happened to you? C-Come in.” She said as she hurried us inside and set us on the couch in the middle of the living room.\n\n“Vanilla come quick!” She shouted towards the kitchen. She turned around to face us, “Sonic, what happened?” She asked him.\n\n“Robotnik.” He only uttered the word and the pink one only nodded, possibly already knowing. It seemed they have known each other for awhile looking at the way the pink hedgehog looked at Sonic.\n\n“I’m here. What’s wrong, Amy?” A motherly voice called out.\n\nIt was a rabbit who seemed to be the one Amy called out, Vanilla. She looks at Sonic in extreme worry.\n\n“Oh dear. What’s happened to you?” She asks him as she kneels down beside him, observing his wound. “Oh, this is bad. Amy, can you please fetch my medical supplies?”\n\n“Yes, Vanilla.” She hurries over to what seems to be the basement. Vanilla starts to lift Sonic up from the couch and puts his arm over her shoulder, “Come, I’ll take you to the guest room.”\n\nSonic was laid down on the bed as Amy returned with the supplies. Vanilla took them and laid them on the nightstand. She opened the box and took out a couple of tools. She began to take off Sonic’s sweater and shirt.\n\n“Okay, let’s see here. Oh~” Vanilla undoes the bandage to reveal Sonic’s wound. She throws the bandage away and begins to heal Sonic up.\n\n“It… It hurts…” sonic mumbled as he hissed in pain as Vanilla began to put more hydrogen peroxide on the wound. “This is why you should be more careful out there. I know you want to save the island but at least have some protection. You don’t want to end up like this do you?” Vanilla scolded Sonic as she pressed onto the wound to prove her point.\n\n“I know, but I can’t help it,” Sonic replied as he covered his eye with his arm. “Besides, what happened?” Vanilla asked as she began to observe the wound.\n\n“I uh… I got hit with something.” He explained. One of his eyes looked at me during his pause.\n\n“You were shot. I see the bullet is still inside. No wonder you’re still bleeding like this.” She said as she grabbed a tool almost like tweezers and starts to dig into Sonic’s wound, possibly to find the bullet.\n\n“C-Careful! Ah!” Sonic winced from the sudden intrusion of the tweezers in his flesh. It looked really disgusting, I thought I was gonna puke. Amy had already left the room, saying she was gonna check on someone named Cream. I just stayed by Sonic’s side.\n\n“Ah, here we go. There it is.” Vanilla announced as she held the small bullet in the grip of the tweezers, covered in blood and flesh. She threw the bullet into a small can and grabbed some needle and thread.\n\n“Now, I’m gonna stitch it back together.” She tied the thread to the needle and began stitching up Sonic’s wound. By the look on Sonic’s face, it looked like he didn’t enjoy it.\n\n“So, who is your little friend here?” Vanilla finally asked. Sonic looked over at me and then back to Vanilla.\n\n“He’s… a kid I saved from a horde of robots. We fixed my plane as thanks and I decided to let him tag along with me.” Sonic summed up our adventure.\n\n“That’s nice. What’s your name?” Vanilla questioned me this time. “My name is Miles Prower but Sonic calls me Tails because I have two tails,” I answered.\n\n“Nice to meet you. I’m Vanilla and the other girl Amy lives with me and my three-year-old daughter, Cream.” Vanilla introduced herself, “Where do you come from?”\n\nI was hesitant to respond. Sonic saw my fear and decided to answer himself, “He escaped from an orphanage that was pretty abusive. I’m taking him under my wing until I’m able to find a place where he can stay.”\n\n“Oh, so he’s an orphan. If you want, after you’re done defeating Robotnik he can stay here with me. It would be nice to have another spare hand around here.” Vanilla suggested.\n\n“That sounds… nice.” I mumbled at the thought of staying with this nice woman is a good idea. \n\n“All done. Now I want you to rest up for the night, so no going out to fight off Robotnik understand?” Vanilla ordered Sonic as she finished the last stitch and packed up her tools. “I understand,” Sonic mumbled as he sat up on the bed.\n\n“I’m going to draw the both of you a warm bath. You two need some cleaning up.” Vanilla said before heading out the room, leaving me and Sonic alone.\n\nWe sat in silence as Sonic picked at his stitches. Sonic stood up from the bed and walked, more like shimmy, towards the door. \n\n“Well come on. You heard what she said, let’s go and take that bath.” Sonic said as he gestured me to follow. I did as I was told and went out the room, following him to the bathroom.\n\n“Sonic, how long have you known Vanilla? Is she your adoptive mother or something like that?” I asked as we went down the hallway.\n\n“I’ve only known her from a couple months ago when I got here and when I saved Amy from Robotnik once. She is one of the only people who helped me get adjusted to life here on South island. I sorta see her as a mother figure but I’m not adopted. I live somewhere else, I only come to her when I need healing.” Sonic explained as he stopped at a door, possibly the one to the bathroom.\n\n“Was she a nurse?” I asked. “She was but when she had her daughter Cream, she couldn’t continue her studies and ended up having to take care of her and Amy on her own.” He entered the bathroom where Vanilla awaited for us.\n\n“The bath is nice and warm. I also added a couple of herbs for your wounds to heal.” Vanilla said before exiting the bathroom, “Also, my water heater is broken so I won’t be able to draw another warm bath. You’ll two will have to share if that’s okay.”\n\n“It’s fine and thank you.” Sonic thanked her before closing the door and started to undress.\n\n“You just gonna stand there or what?” Sonic said as he noticed I wasn’t taking off my clothes. “Oh, r-right.” I stuttered before taking off my clothes.\n\nOnce I threw my clothes to the side, I was able to see the many scars Sonic was covered in. Some large, some small, some really deep. But the one thing that caught my attention was the green markings that covered his back.\n\nSonic noticed my staring and covered it with his quills. He stepped into the bath, making the water rise.\n\n“Are you coming in?” He asked as he sat in the bath, letting the warm liquid do wonders to his body. “Y-yeah.” I almost whispered as I slowly climbed into the bath.\n\nWe sat opposite from each other as we scrubbed ourselves clean. The silence was quite awkward and the only sound was the sound of the water splashing on the floor.\n\n“Sonic?” I broke the silence. “Yes?” He muttered as he continued to scrub, avoiding my gaze.\n\n“You never answered my question.” I said as I stopped my scrubbing, “Why did you come back to save me?”\n\nSonic stopped and looked away, I knew he was trying to get the proper words to say. He sighed.\n\n“I… I didn’t want to be responsible for a death that I could’ve avoided.”\n\nI looked at him confused.\n\n“I couldn’t just let you die like that. I would… feel guilty.” He paused for a moment, “I know I haven’t shown it but… I like having you around. It… makes me feel less alone than I already am.”\n\n“Besides, with your skills and intelligence, it makes this adventure better having you around. If it wasn’t for you, I wouldn’t have made it back here.”\n\n“So, I guess… it’s good to have a friend around.”\n\nSonic smiled for the first time at me and he seemed genuinely thankful. But his expression changed to a one of concern when he looked at me.\n\n“Uh… You okay there?” Sonic asked.\n\nTears ran down my face as I tried to process his words. I suddenly hugged him tightly, causing some of the water to splash on the floor.\n\n“I… I’ve had a friend before. I’m glad you’re my first friend.” I sobbed into his chest as I let the tears run down my cheeks. “Geez, you don’t have to cry about it,” Sonic said as he rubbed my back in comfort. We just stayed like that for a couple more minutes before I let him go.\n\n“S-Sorry about that. I just got emotional.” I apologized as I retreated back to my spot in the tub. Sonic only shook his head in amusement.\n\n“Welp, we better finished bathing before the water gets cold,” Sonic said before grabbing his sponge and started scrubbing himself again. I did the same and finished cleaning myself.\n\nOnce we were done we got out the tub and dried ourselves while the water went down the drain. We finished up and put on our spare clothes we had in our backpacks. We headed out the bathroom the living room where Vanilla was waiting for us.\n\n“I see you two are done. I made a bit of soup for the two of you before you go to bed.” Vanilla said as she gave both of us a bowl full of soup. We thanked her before chowing down on our food. It was delicious, possibly the most delicious thing I ever tasted.\n\n“Your cooking is as good as ever.” Sonic complimented her cooking before setting down his empty bowl on the coffee table. I too complimented her and put my bowl next to his once I was done with my food. We sighed in content as our stomachs were filled with deliciousness.\n\n“I’m glad you two liked it. Now it’s off to bed, and no going out to fight Robotnik.” Vanilla said before picking up the bowls and heading to the kitchen. Sonic and I walked up the stairs to the guest room where we will be sleeping in.\n\nWe both climbed into bed and tucked ourselves into the soft blanket.\n\n“Good night Sonic,” I said. “Night… Tails.” He said before we both dozed off to sleep.\n\n____________________________________________________________________\n\nStaying behind\n\nMorning came and the smell of eggs filled the room. I sat up on the bed, yawning and stretching my arms. I looked over to see Sonic still sound asleep. I chuckled a bit as I noticed he was drooling. I smiled as I got out of bed and left the guest room. I walked downstairs towards the kitchen where I saw Vanilla already there making breakfast.\n\n“Good morning,” I said as I took a seat at the table. “Oh, good morning Tails. Did you sleep well?” Vanilla greeted me as he cracked opened an egg. “Yup. Is everybody else still sleeping?” I asked as Vanilla poured me a cup of orange juice.\n\n“I believe so unless Sonic went out for an early jog.” She said as she flipped the eggs. “He’s still sleeping. He’s even drooling a bit, hehe.” I chuckled while reassuring her about Sonic.\n\n“That’s good. How do you want your eggs?” Vanilla asked me as she grabbed another egg from the carton. “Scrambled please,” I answered as I took a sip of my juice.\n\n“Tails, can you promise me something?” Vanilla spoke as she took a seat opposite of me. I placed my glass down and looked at her. “Sure.”\n\n“When you and Sonic go to defeat Robotnik, take care of Sonic for me.” Vanilla kindly asked. I angled my head to the side, “What do you mean by that?”\n\n“Sonic has been through a lot. I know he’s a bit difficult to be around but I think you can keep an eye out for him for me. Promise me you’ll watch his back.” Vanilla better explained.\n\n“I promise,” I said as I gave her a reassuring smile. Suddenly a yawn was heard.\n\n“That was a good night sleep. Oh, good morning.” Sonic came into the kitchen and sat in the seat next to me.\n\n“I see you’re awake, finally. Want some coffee?” Vanilla offered as she went back to the eggs. “Yes please,” Sonic said as he yawned again. Vanilla poured some hot coffee into a cup and gave it to Sonic who sipped the warm liquid. He sighed in content as he began to feel refreshed.\n\n___________________________________________________________________\n\n“You two be careful now,” Vanilla said as she waved us goodbye as Sonic and I started up the Tornado.\n\n“Don’t worry we will!” Sonic reassured her as he took his spot on top of the wings. “You ready Tails?” Sonic asked me. “You bet!” I said.\n\n“Okay! Let’s go and beat Robotnik’s as- I mean butt!!” Sonic cut himself as he corrected himself before saying something he wasn’t.\n\nThe tornado began gaining speed before lifting off the ground into the sky.\n\n“Woohoo!!” Sonic shouted to the sky as he felt the air in his quills. I only laughed at his enthusiasm as I began to fly towards wherever Robotnik is. \n\n___________________________________________________________________\n\nI’ll take it from here!\n\nIt had been an hour since we left Vanilla’s house in search of Robotnik. Sonic had become bored that he began sleeping on top of the wing. I just gazed at the endless sky.\n\nOut of the corner of my eye, I see a glint of metal. I sped up as the glint became clearer. The glint came from a large aircraft surrounded by badniks.\n\n“Sonic, wake up! I found Robotnik!” I yelled at him as I startled him awake. “Robotnik?! Looks like I have to start trashing.” Sonic cocked as he put himself into a battle position as I flew the tornado towards the aircraft.\n\nSonic spin attacked many of the badniks that tried to stop us. All of them fell to the ground as they didn’t stand a chance against him. Just as we headed towards the aircraft, a missile hit the left wing out of nowhere. Sonic tripped and held onto the wing with only one hand as the Tornado began to lose altitude.\n\n“Tails!” Sonic shouted my name. “We’re losing altitude!” I shouted as I tried to lift the tornado up. Sonic looked at me in worry, he turned to look at the aircraft that was becoming farther away by the second.\n\n“Tails! I’ll take it from here! You stay back and fix the tornado while I go and find Robotnik!” Sonic yelled as he tried to lift himself up.\n\n“I’m not leaving you Sonic! We’ll make it!” I shouted back as I tried my hardest to get us up.\n\n“Tails! You have to listen to me! The tornado won’t make it but I can! I can bounce off the badniks and get up to the aircraft!” Sonic explained as he readied himself.\n\n“I won’t leave you!” I cried back as I tried to convince him we could make it.\n\n“Tails! We don’t have much time! You have to trust me! Please!” Sonic cried out.\n\nI have no choice.\n\n“Okay! Go!” I shouted as Sonic readied himself. He jumped off the wing and bounced off the badniks as he reached the aircraft.\n\n“Good luck,” I muttered as I flew the tornado down to the ground. I landed it and I got out the tornado as I watched the aircraft fly into oblivion, the clouds covering it.\n\nI just stared at the sky as I prayed that Sonic will be alright. But I can’t keep staying like this, I got a plane to fix. I opened the trunk of the tornado and grabbed the toolkit and began working on the tornado.\n\n___________________________________________________________________\n\nI got you\n\nI was able to repair the wing of the tornado while I waited for Sonic to return. I passed the time playing with the flickies, the native animals of the islands, that came to say hi. Many of them were birds, pigs, and squirrels. They were really friendly.\n\nI sighed as I gazed back at the azure sky. It had been a roughy long time since Sonic had gone off to search for Robotnik on his own. I do wish he’s okay. I don’t want him getting hurt like when he got shot in Metropolis. I could only hope.\n\nOut from the corner of my eye, I saw a yellow light falling from the sky. I squinted my eyes and saw who it was.\n\n“Sonic!”\n\nI quickly got up from the grass and started up the tornado. I lifted off the ground and flew over the large ocean, trying to get to Sonic as fast as I could.\n\n“Sonic!” I cried out as I was able to see him unconscious.\n\nI pushed the tornado to its limits as I got Sonic just in time before he landed in the water. This is normal, I always wake up like this but there are days where I’m spared from this pain.

I sat up on my bed and threw my blanket off and swung my legs over my bed. I got off the bed, grabbed my uniform and went straight to the bathroom. I climbed up the stool next to the sink and started getting myself ready for another day.

I’m the different one out of everybody here in the orphanage. Mostly because I’m the youngest and most naive. But there are still things that define me. My intelligence is one of my strongest things about me. I may be five but I have a knack for anything for robotics and engineering. But even with my smartness, I’m not noticed or praised for it. Doesn’t matter though, most of the others won’t understand my inventions.

I gurgled the water that I had in my mouth and spit it out into the sink. I climbed off the stool and started to dress. I made sure to not touch the many bruises that covered my body.

That’s another thing about this place, if you’re different, you’ll get punished. I still do it only because I’ve become used to it.

Once I finished becoming dressed I walked out the bathroom and headed towards the cafeteria. There were only a few kids and staff. I’m usually the early birds, and I’ve used this time to get some alone time. I grabbed my breakfast and sat in the corner farthest away from everyone. I picked up my spoon and started eating.

Everything here wasn’t so bad. There was this one lady that did take care of me. It was the lady that found me that night I was abandoned. But only two years ago had she retired and ultimately passed away. I was devastated. That was when the abuse started to happen.

I put down my fork on the tray and walked to the dish counter and left it for the staff to clean. I walked out the cafeteria as the rest of the orphanage started to walk in. I walked to my hiding place, it was in the attic of the school and nobody knew where it was, and I did. I walked into a closet and closed it. I turned around and pushed opened a door that leads to some staircases. I walked upstairs to be met with all my things.

Although small, it stored tons of things in here. I walked over to my pile of pillows and sat myself down. I grabbed the remote that was left aside and turned out the small TV the attic stored. The first time I came here I found many abandoned things like the TV, CD player, a small empty fridge, lights, and a microwave. Most of those were already broken, but with my intelligence, I was able to fix them.

I started up the CD player with one of the movies also left here in a giant box. Most of the movies in the box were action movies. I hadn’t been able to get done watching half of the movies in the box.

For as much as I would love too, I can’t stay here forever. I only come here during my free time. It’s usually rare that I get to spend my entire day up here but it doesn’t matter. As long as I’m able to be productive up here I’m fine. This is also the place where I build my inventions. I have a giant box of tools that I keep. I mostly use them to fix things but I also use them to create.

I looked at the time and saw that it was almost time for me to go to class. I sighed as I turned off the movie and walked down the stairs. I got out the closet and went to my class.

____________________________________________________________________

More Bruises

I sat in the garden of the orphanage working on another invention. It was lunch time but I wasn’t hungry, so I came down here to spend the rest of the time.

“Great! It’s finished!” I declared as I raised it up to the sky. Suddenly it was snatched from my hands. It was one of the bullies.

“What did you create this time furball?” He cocked as he observed my invention.

“That’s none of your business!” I said as I jumped up to grab my inventions back but I was too short. Suddenly I was grabbed by the arm by two other boys.

“Let me go!” I yelled as I struggled in their grasp. Their grip was too strong for me.

“How about we do something to this little trinket.” The bully said as he placed the small object on the same bench I sat on just moments ago.

He raised his hand and balled it into a fist, “Why don’t I crush it?”

“No!” I yelled, trying to get him to refrain but it was no use. He raised his fist up in the air and in a second his arm flew down and crush the poor object into millions of pieces.

“No…” I whispered as I tried to contain my tears. The bully walked closer to me and raised my head for our eyes to meet.

“You know how things go around here. We told you that your ‘inventions’ mean nothing. And you know what we’re gonna do to you right?” He said as he squished my cheeks. “Just do what you got to do,” I mumbled as I lowered my head. “Good.”

The air in my lungs was suddenly knocked out of me as he punched me hard in the stomach. I tried to regain some air but it was knocked out of me again as he kept punching me repeatedly. Soon he punched other areas of my body, most surely causing bruises to form.

Once he had his fill, the other two let me go and I fell to the floor, pain coursing through my body. I looked at them as they went out of the garden.

I just laid there, waiting for the pain to go away.

I can’t stay here any longer.

____________________________________________________________________

Run

That same night I packed my things. I grabbed everything that I needed to survive outside the orphanage. I brought juice, a couple of fruits, snacks, tools, first aid kit, clothes, and some of my favorite movies. I also grabbed my papers for safekeeping.

I know this is wrong but I can’t stand being here in this hellhole any longer. I packed my things and walked out the building once everyone was asleep. I stopped in front of the wall that separated the inside from the outside. I looked at my tails and an idea popped into my head. I squatted down and started turning my tails. Suddenly I felt my feet not touching the ground anymore.

I was flying!

I twirled my tails faster and I start flying up and up until I was on the wall. I slowed down and I slowly hovered to the ground. I started walking away from the orphanage to wherever I felt I need to go.

I walked and walked until I reached the subway. Good.

The ride to my destination was quiet and peaceful. Once the train stopped at my destination I got off. In front of me was the train station. I walked into the large pristine building made of marble and looked at the trains rides they offered.

Train Leaving Soon For West Side Island

West Side island, huh? That sounds like the perfect spot for me. Just as I was about to enter, I realized I needed a ticket get in. I had no money so I couldn’t afford one. Just my luck.

Out of the corner of my eye, I saw a ticket, it was for west side island. Guess my luck turned around. I grabbed the ticket and showed it to the security guard. He let me pass and I rush towards the train, getting inside just in time before it could depart. I grabbed an empty seat and set my backpack to the side, looking out the window.

I couldn’t believe it, I’m free.

____________________________________________________________________

Thanks for the Save

I woke up when the sun hit my eyes, I yawned as I looked at the clock on the walls of the train. It was early morning and it seems that there were still ways to go. Instead of going back to sleep, I stared at the scenery the island had to offer. It was magnificent. I could stare at it all day.

The time came and the train finally arrived at west side island. I grabbed my belongings and headed out the train. My smile turned into a frown when I looked at the state of the station. It was not like how I imagined it to be. That didn’t bother though, I went on my way and left the station to find it to be surrounded by a small town. To the very left of it was a rainforest.

I wasn’t sure why but my instincts told me to go to the forest. So I did. I ventured through the town, picking up any food that was left around, and occasionally stealing from local vendors.

I walked into the forest, it was thick and filled to the brim with leaves and birds, not to mention it was humid af.

I ventured through to find a place I could stay but so far no luck. I walked passed a trail that leads to an area I did not know. I followed the trail to wherever it took me.

As I walked, I felt something spy on me. I looked around but I saw nothing. It was probably my imagination.

Suddenly I was knocked down by something. I fell to the floor and I looked around to see I was surrounded by tons of different looking robots. They seemed angry and have their weapons aim straight at me.

I was afraid, I had no idea what to do. I just closed my eyes and awaited my death.

But that didn’t happen. I felt a harsh wind circle around me. I opened my eyes to find someone in front of a pile of scrap metal.

It was a blue hedgehog with green highlights, probably the age of an adult. I stood up from the ground and I walked towards my savior but he disappeared in a flash. I stood there stunned.

What just happened?

I looked towards the way he left. He didn’t even say ‘are you alright or anything.’ I really want to thank him. I decided to follow him to wherever he went too.

He’s pretty quick, I’ll give him that. I ran and ran, following his footprints that he left behind. There were so many footsteps that they were probably in the hundreds. I was growing tiresome of searching for that blue hedgehog, I thought of giving up until I heard someone’s voice up ahead.

I slowly made my way to the sandy beach at the end of the jungle and hid behind a bush. I peeked my head up to see who was there on the beach.

It was that blue hedgehog. He was standing near a broken down red plane with a couple of tools and a worn out notebook in hand. He seemed frustrated as he tried to, what it seems like, repair his plane.

“Stupid plane!” He yelled furiously as dropped the notebook to the ground and threw one of the tools at the plane only for it to bounce back and hit him in the face. I couldn’t help but chuckle at his attempts.

Suddenly a loud thud could be heard from miles away. The blue hedgehog stopped what he was doing and in a flash as he sped through the sand to wherever the noise came from.

I slowly came out from the bush and walked over to his plane. I observed the inside and its inner workings. It was all rusty and needed tuning from what I was able to get from it.

I went down and grabbed the notebook that lay forgotten on the sandy surface. I looked through the pages to see it filled with notes and blueprints for many things. I stopped at the page with a blueprint of a plane. I skimmed through the notes and picked up one of the tools that lay around. I set the book aside for now and looked back at the plane in front of me.

I could fix this plane up for him as a token of appreciation. Alright, let’s get you fixed.

____________________________________________________________________

After about an hour later the plane was almost complete. I was doing some last minute tuning when I heard footsteps coming near. I didn’t pay much attention to it as I kept on tuning.

“Hey!” Someone yelled and I jumped and caused myself to hit the sand beneath me. I was shadowed over a tall blue hedgehog with his arms crossed and a not too pleasant expression. I was very frightened.

“What were you doing to my plane?” The blue one exclaimed as he bent down to get a better look at me. It felt like I was under a microscope. He was tall and very intimidating. I was so terrified that I didn’t dare say anything.

“Are you going to answer me or what?!” He yelled demanding me to answer.

“I-I w-was f-fixing it!” I hastily stuttered.

“You were fixing it? Why?” He questioned me again as he picked up the notebook and checked the inside of his plane.

“You saved me f-from those r-robots back in then j-jungle and I wanted t-to show my appreciation b-by fixing y-your plane,” I explained as I watched him continue to observe his plane. He turned to face me with an impressed look on his face as he closed the book in hand.

“What’s your name and age?” He asked. “M-Miles Prower, I’m 5 years old,” I answered. He raised an eyebrow in disbelief but quickly shook it away.

“I got to say you got a knack for fixing things. So you’re welcome and thanks for fixing my plane but now it’s time for you to go home to your mom.” He said before he started pushing me towards the jungle.

“But I don’t have a mom!” I exclaimed as I turned around to stop him from pushing me.

“Father?”

“Nope.”

“Brother? Sister?”

“Nuh-uh.”

He just looked at me in confusion as he had no clue what to do with me, or better yet how to get rid of me.

“So where are you from?” He asked. “An orphanage, but I escaped!” I answered. He sighed in defeat as he closed his eyes and crossed his arms. I waited for him to answer but there was a sudden explosion from somewhere far away.

“Robutt-nik!” He exclaimed as he suddenly speeds towards the sound of the explosion. Not wanting to wait for the hedgehog’s return, I sped off after him.

Just as he trashed another band of robots, I quickly caught up to him.

“Y-You?! What are you doing?! You’re going to get killed, let me handle this!” The azure one yelled as he dodged an attack from a flying robot.

“I can be useful to you!” I exclaimed. “No, you won’t! Now go away and stay out of danger!” He yelled again as he knocked down another robot.

“I’ll show you!” I insisted as I twirled my tails at fast speeds and I knocked down a couple robots that were in the sky. I flew down next to the azure hedgehog and raised my hands in the air, “See!”

He sighed in defeat, “Fine, I’ll let you tag along but if you get hurt badly that’s it.”

“Yay! Oh, thank you! I promise I won’t disappoint!” I cheered as I hugged his legs. I felt him stroke his hand over my head, “Okay, okay, that’s enough. Let’s go and get my plane, looks like the fat man went to another area.” He stated and started walking back to the direction where he left his plane.

“By the way, I never asked your name.” I pointed out as I walked beside him.

“The name’s Sonic, Sonic the Hedgehog.” He answered as he put his hands behind his neck. “Good to know sir!” I said as I looked forward. Sonic suddenly stopped in his tracks, I turned around to face him when I heard the dorkiest laugh.

“Sir?! Ha,ha,ha… You think I’m a grown man?! Hahaha!” He continued to laugh. “Are you not an adult?” I asked confused. “Okay, sure, I may be taller than your average hedgehog but I can assure you I’m not an adult.”

“Well, how old are you then?” I asked.

“Twelve..” He said. “T-Twelve?!” I repeated in disbelief as he began to walk again.

“You’ll get used to it.” He said as he gestured me to follow. I did as I was told and started walking beside him again.

“By the way, can I call you Tails?” He suddenly asked.

I stopped in my tracks, “Why would you want to call me that?” I asked.

“Well, you have two Tails. I like having nicknames for people who have special things about them. So, do you like it?” He explained.

“Tails, it sounds great.” I agreed.

“Great! It’ll be easier to remember than Miles.”

____________________________________________________________________

Nightmares

Sonic and I traveled to most of the island as we trashed badniks, which is what those robots are called, save animals and villages, and have a battle with the one and only Robotnik. It’s pretty fun but dangerous too. I also learned that he has a fear of water. It’s pretty funny to see such a strong person be afraid of the thing that keeps us alive.

I still haven’t gotten Sonic’s full trust though. As much as I try I just can’t seem to make him trust me or even befriend me. Sure, he doesn’t seem like the one to be social with people given his behavior but it wouldn’t kill him. I am journeying with him, he should at least get to know me better.

I should get to him know him better.

We were camping out in the mystic cave as the sun had set not too long ago. We built a fire and set up our backpacks as pillows. Sonic was the last one to go to sleep, he said something about keeping watch but I know he was just as tired as me.

I was lying on my side my back facing Sonic. I could hear his shuffling, he was also making grunting noises. He kept shuffling harder and rougher until he was almost kicking the dirt beneath him.

“Ow,” I yelled as Sonic suddenly punched me in the shoulder from his jerking movements. I sat up and looked down at him.

He was sweating and… scared? I have never seen him scared.

“N-no… stop…” He mumbled under his breath. Is he having a nightmare? I began shaking him awake.

“Sonic, wake up.” I shook him harder when he didn’t respond. “Sonic, come on. You’re scaring me.” I shook again. He was starting to worry me. Nothing worked, I only had one other choice left. I raised hand up to the sky and…

SLAP!!

“What happened?!” Sonic sprung up from his sleep.

“You’re awake!” I said. “What happened?” Sonic groans as he holds his hand overhead. “I think you were having a nightmare.” I speculated. He sighed. “Yeah.” He said before lying back down.

“You don’t want to talk about it?” I asked him as I too laid down. “No.” He said bluntly as turned the other way, back facing me. “Oh, okay,” I replied before falling back asleep.

“Do you want to know?” His voice suddenly broke the silence.

“If you’re willing to tell me?” I said as I turned over to face him. He sat up again and looked down at his hands.

“Those nightmares, in truth…” He began but hesitation came soon after. His hands were clenched and he looked spaced out. I wanted for him to continue but I didn’t want to be nosy. His ears would twitch every couple seconds, it was like is he was listening to someone.

“The truth is…” He spoke, “... I… don’t know where they come from.” He explained.

I looked at him confused, “Don’t know?”

“I’m not sure myself, but doctors have said it might be some sort of trauma I could have suffered during my childhood.” He continued. “Do have a clear thought of what it could be? I mean, you should remember something like that, right?” I questioned even further.

“No… I… I suffer from… amnesia.” He explained more. “Amnesia? How bad is it?”

“I don’t know anything until last year when my amnesia began.” He said as he held his head in his hand.

“You don’t remember your home, family, or parents?” I asked him. He only shook his head. I bowed my head in sympathy.

“I guess we have something in common then,” I mumbled. Sonic looked at me in question, “What in common?”

“We both have no one to remember.”

Sonic stayed silent as he continued to process what I had just said.

“Remember? You suffer from amnesia too?” He questioned as he put his hand on my shoulder to get my attention.

“No, I mean, you have no one to remember because you don’t remember anything, and I… I have no one to remember because I don’t have anyone that I want to remember,” I explained as I sniffed.

“You said you were from an orphanage, was it bad?” He asked. “Yeah, it was the worst.”

“Was the person in charge an old hag who made everyone clean the place?” Sonic asked. I only chuckled, “No, but good reference. I was bullied and I suffered from abuse from my bullies.” I explained.

“Is that why you’re covered in bruises?”

“Yeah, sometimes I even wonder if I have something broken.”

“Must’ve been rough being there.”

“Yeah, but I’m glad I got out of there. It was just the thing I needed.”

We stayed in silence, staring up at the ceiling of the cave. It sparkled even though there was no outside light source. Sonic yawned suddenly, breaking the silence, and began getting himself comfortable on the cold floor.

“Welp, I’m about to hit the hay, again. You gonna sleep?” He said as he covered himself with his blanket again. “Yeah, I am pretty tired,” I replied as I followed his example.

“Goodnight,” I said.

“Night…” Sonic said before we both fell asleep again that night.

____________________________________________________________________

I thought you wouldn’t make it!

Sonic and I hit the road that morning and headed through oil ocean and we’re coming close to Metropolis. Oil ocean was fun and very dangerous, we got to set it on fire once we were out of there. He would always do this every chance he gets to get rid of me. Sometimes I wonder if I should stop being with him, but something inside tells me to not leave his side.

The night of Sonic’s nightmare, things became different between us. He has become more distant than he already was. He would only talk to me if it was about Robotnik and or if I was okay. I know once this adventure is over, I’ll have to continue on my own. I guess Sonic is just preparing me for that.

“Here we are. Looks like it’s heavily reinforced.” Sonic observed. “Looks like you’ll have to stay here.”

“Stay?! I can handle myself just fine!” I shouted as I put my hands on my hips.

“Look, it’s too dangerous for you. Just stay here and you’ll be safe.” Sonic repeated as he started to get annoyed.

“Too dangerous?! What about those other places we’ve been in?! I’ve been able to keep my own just fine so what makes this place any different?!” I countered in anger.

“Those places don’t compare here! Just shut up and stay put!” Sonic blurted out as he began walking away.

“Why! Why do you keep trying to get rid of me?! What have I done to you?!” I fired question after question as I grabbed a hold of Sonic’s hand. He snatched it away and turned to face me.

“You wanna know you little bastard?! You have been keeping me down this whole time! I was fine on my own until you came! If you wanna fight, fight me!” I shouted back.

I was shaking intensely. I was frightened. I can’t defeat this guy on my own, I usually let Sonic take the lead but with him gone, I’m not sure if I’ll survive.

“Fight you?! Ha! Don’t be ridiculous!” He laughed. “I won’t have to put up a fight to get rid of you.”

“W-what do you mean by that?” I asked him.

“Simple. I just use this gun here and you’re dead simple as that. Now hold still.” He stated as he aimed the gun towards me.

I want to run but my legs aren’t listening to me. I could only stare at him. I backed away slowly until I tripped and landed on my rear end. I closed my eyes and waited for my demise.

Life is cruel, isn’t it?

The shot fired but I felt no pain. I opened one of my eyes and saw the unexpected.

Sonic.

Sonic was standing there in front of me with his arms spread wide as if he was protecting me.

I looked over to the side and saw a stain of blood, the dark liquid pouring out and flowing down his leg onto the metallic floor.

“Sonic?! No matter, as long as I get rid of one of you, my plans will be achieved.” Robotnik said before retreating.

I could only stare at Sonic who was still protecting me. He had his back facing me but I could clearly see the large breaths he was taking.

“S-Sonic?” I stuttered his name, tears creeping their way to the corner of my eyes.

He suddenly collapsed in front of me.

“Sonic!” I called out as I crawled towards him. I turned him, back lying down, and I tried to get him to see me.

“Sonic?! Can you hear me?!” Called out to him, examining his wound. It was pretty deep and bad.

“Tails… you’re safe.” He mumbled as he held his side.

“W-Why did you come to save me?” I asked him.

“That doesn’t matter right now. I need to get this healed.” He said as he slowly stood up, clenching his side to stop himself from bleeding any further.

“Where are you going?” I asked him as I followed him. “I’ll… urgh… I'll explain on our way…” He stuttered as he began walking back.

“To where exactly?! We have nowhere to go!” I tried to reason as an effort to stop him.

“We do… we need the tornado to get there though.” He said as he ripped a part of his shirt and put it on his wound.

“Fine. I then wrapped a bandage around his waist to keep the ball secure and to put pressure on his wound.

“There. That should help you.” I said as I packed everything back into the backpack.

“Hey.” He said.

“Yeah?” I responded.

“Thanks.”

I only nodded at his response before heading back to the tornado.

____________________________________________________________________

It has been an hour since we headed to get the tornado and set off to the place Sonic kept talking about. I was in the driver’s seat this time while Sonic was in the backseat. He started to feel weak and he couldn’t keep up anymore, luckily he made it all the way to the tornado.

He was sleeping soundly even though the engine roared loudly. He was pale and sweating. Sure enough, he has a fever. The bleeding didn’t stop either. It just kept coming. I’m afraid he won’t make it, but I can’t lose hope.

We were nearing our destination, I slowly dived to the ground to get a clear view of where to land. Houses covered the luscious greenery that was South Island. At the far side of the island did we finally arrive at the place Sonic said. I landed the Tornado ways from the house and shut off the tornado. I unbuckled myself and turned over to see Sonic still asleep.

“Sonic. Sonic, wake up.” I whispered as I poked him in the face. He slowly opened his tired eyes, “W-We there yet?” He whispered as he looked at our surroundings.

“We’re here. Let me help you out.” I said as I started to unbuckle him. I lifted him up from his seat and floated him down to the ground. He leaned against the tornado for support as his legs still felt weak.

We started walking towards the house Sonic had said before. It was a simple house with a garden in front. It was peaceful and it looked well taken care of. We stopped in front of the door and knocked.

The door opened revealing a small pink hedgehog who looked about 9 years old. Her joyful face turned into one of worry once she set her eyes upon Sonic.

“S-Sonic? What’s happened to you? C-Come in.” She said as she hurried us inside and set us on the couch in the middle of the living room.

“Vanilla come quick!” She shouted towards the kitchen. She turned around to face us, “Sonic, what happened?” She asked him.

“Robotnik.” He only uttered the word and the pink one only nodded, possibly already knowing. It seemed they have known each other for awhile looking at the way the pink hedgehog looked at Sonic.

“I’m here. What’s wrong, Amy?” A motherly voice called out.

It was a rabbit who seemed to be the one Amy called out, Vanilla. She looks at Sonic in extreme worry.

“Oh dear. What’s happened to you?” She asks him as she kneels down beside him, observing his wound. “Oh, this is bad. Amy, can you please fetch my medical supplies?”

“Yes, Vanilla.” She hurries over to what seems to be the basement. Vanilla starts to lift Sonic up from the couch and puts his arm over her shoulder, “Come, I’ll take you to the guest room.”

Sonic was laid down on the bed as Amy returned with the supplies. Vanilla took them and laid them on the nightstand. She opened the box and took out a couple of tools. She began to take off Sonic’s sweater and shirt.

“Okay, let’s see here. Oh~” Vanilla undoes the bandage to reveal Sonic’s wound. She throws the bandage away and begins to heal Sonic up.

“It… It hurts…” sonic mumbled as he hissed in pain as Vanilla began to put more hydrogen peroxide on the wound. “This is why you should be more careful out there. I know you want to save the island but at least have some protection. You don’t want to end up like this do you?” Vanilla scolded Sonic as she pressed onto the wound to prove her point.

“I know, but I can’t help it,” Sonic replied as he covered his eye with his arm. “Besides, what happened?” Vanilla asked as she began to observe the wound.

“I uh… I got hit with something.” He explained. One of his eyes looked at me during his pause.

“You were shot. I see the bullet is still inside. No wonder you’re still bleeding like this.” She said as she grabbed a tool almost like tweezers and starts to dig into Sonic’s wound, possibly to find the bullet.

“C-Careful! Ah!” Sonic winced from the sudden intrusion of the tweezers in his flesh. It looked really disgusting, I thought I was gonna puke. Amy had already left the room, saying she was gonna check on someone named Cream. I just stayed by Sonic’s side.

“Ah, here we go. There it is.” Vanilla announced as she held the small bullet in the grip of the tweezers, covered in blood and flesh. She threw the bullet into a small can and grabbed some needle and thread.

“Now, I’m gonna stitch it back together.” She tied the thread to the needle and began stitching up Sonic’s wound. By the look on Sonic’s face, it looked like he didn’t enjoy it.

“So, who is your little friend here?” Vanilla finally asked. Sonic looked over at me and then back to Vanilla.

“He’s… a kid I saved from a horde of robots. We fixed my plane as thanks and I decided to let him tag along with me.” Sonic summed up our adventure.

“That’s nice. What’s your name?” Vanilla questioned me this time. “My name is Miles Prower but Sonic calls me Tails because I have two tails,” I answered.

“Nice to meet you. I’m Vanilla and the other girl Amy lives with me and my three-year-old daughter, Cream.” Vanilla introduced herself, “Where do you come from?”

I was hesitant to respond. Sonic saw my fear and decided to answer himself, “He escaped from an orphanage that was pretty abusive. I’m taking him under my wing until I’m able to find a place where he can stay.”

“Oh, so he’s an orphan. If you want, after you’re done defeating Robotnik he can stay here with me. It would be nice to have another spare hand around here.” Vanilla suggested.

“That sounds… nice.” I mumbled at the thought of staying with this nice woman is a good idea.

“All done. Now I want you to rest up for the night, so no going out to fight off Robotnik understand?” Vanilla ordered Sonic as she finished the last stitch and packed up her tools. “I understand,” Sonic mumbled as he sat up on the bed.

“I’m going to draw the both of you a warm bath. You two need some cleaning up.” Vanilla said before heading out the room, leaving me and Sonic alone.

We sat in silence as Sonic picked at his stitches. Sonic stood up from the bed and walked, more like shimmy, towards the door.

“Well come on. You heard what she said, let’s go and take that bath.” Sonic said as he gestured me to follow. I did as I was told and went out the room, following him to the bathroom.

“Sonic, how long have you known Vanilla? Is she your adoptive mother or something like that?” I asked as we went down the hallway.

“I’ve only known her from a couple months ago when I got here and when I saved Amy from Robotnik once. She is one of the only people who helped me get adjusted to life here on South island. I sorta see her as a mother figure but I’m not adopted. I live somewhere else, I only come to her when I need healing.” Sonic explained as he stopped at a door, possibly the one to the bathroom.

“Was she a nurse?” I asked. “She was but when she had her daughter Cream, she couldn’t continue her studies and ended up having to take care of her and Amy on her own.” He entered the bathroom where Vanilla awaited for us.

“The bath is nice and warm. I also added a couple of herbs for your wounds to heal.” Vanilla said before exiting the bathroom, “Also, my water heater is broken so I won’t be able to draw another warm bath. You’ll two will have to share if that’s okay.”

“It’s fine and thank you.” Sonic thanked her before closing the door and started to undress.

“You just gonna stand there or what?” Sonic said as he noticed I wasn’t taking off my clothes. “Oh, r-right.” I stuttered before taking off my clothes.

Once I threw my clothes to the side, I was able to see the many scars Sonic was covered in. Some large, some small, some really deep. But the one thing that caught my attention was the green markings that covered his back.

Sonic noticed my staring and covered it with his quills. He stepped into the bath, making the water rise.

“Are you coming in?” He asked as he sat in the bath, letting the warm liquid do wonders to his body. “Y-yeah.” I almost whispered as I slowly climbed into the bath.

We sat opposite from each other as we scrubbed ourselves clean. The silence was quite awkward and the only sound was the sound of the water splashing on the floor.

“Sonic?” I broke the silence. “Yes?” He muttered as he continued to scrub, avoiding my gaze.

“You never answered my question.” I said as I stopped my scrubbing, “Why did you come back to save me?”

Sonic stopped and looked away, I knew he was trying to get the proper words to say. He sighed.

“I… I didn’t want to be responsible for a death that I could’ve avoided.”

I looked at him confused.

“I couldn’t just let you die like that. I would… feel guilty.” He paused for a moment, “I know I haven’t shown it but… I like having you around. It… makes me feel less alone than I already am.”

“Besides, with your skills and intelligence, it makes this adventure better having you around. If it wasn’t for you, I wouldn’t have made it back here.”

“So, I guess… it’s good to have a friend around.”

Sonic smiled for the first time at me and he seemed genuinely thankful. But his expression changed to a one of concern when he looked at me.

“Uh… You okay there?” Sonic asked.

Tears ran down my face as I tried to process his words. I suddenly hugged him tightly, causing some of the water to splash on the floor.

“I… I’ve had a friend before. I’m glad you’re my first friend.” I sobbed into his chest as I let the tears run down my cheeks. “Geez, you don’t have to cry about it,” Sonic said as he rubbed my back in comfort. We just stayed like that for a couple more minutes before I let him go.

“S-Sorry about that. I just got emotional.” I apologized as I retreated back to my spot in the tub. Sonic only shook his head in amusement.

“Welp, we better finished bathing before the water gets cold,” Sonic said before grabbing his sponge and started scrubbing himself again. I did the same and finished cleaning myself.

Once we were done we got out the tub and dried ourselves while the water went down the drain. We finished up and put on our spare clothes we had in our backpacks. We headed out the bathroom the living room where Vanilla was waiting for us.

“I see you two are done. I made a bit of soup for the two of you before you go to bed.” Vanilla said as she gave both of us a bowl full of soup. We thanked her before chowing down on our food. It was delicious, possibly the most delicious thing I ever tasted.

“Your cooking is as good as ever.” Sonic complimented her cooking before setting down his empty bowl on the coffee table. I too complimented her and put my bowl next to his once I was done with my food. We sighed in content as our stomachs were filled with deliciousness.

“I’m glad you two liked it. Now it’s off to bed, and no going out to fight Robotnik.” Vanilla said before picking up the bowls and heading to the kitchen. Sonic and I walked up the stairs to the guest room where we will be sleeping in.

We both climbed into bed and tucked ourselves into the soft blanket.

“Good night Sonic,” I said. “Night… Tails.” He said before we both dozed off to sleep.

____________________________________________________________________

Staying behind

Morning came and the smell of eggs filled the room. I sat up on the bed, yawning and stretching my arms. I looked over to see Sonic still sound asleep. I chuckled a bit as I noticed he was drooling. I smiled as I got out of bed and left the guest room. I walked downstairs towards the kitchen where I saw Vanilla already there making breakfast.

“Good morning,” I said as I took a seat at the table. “Oh, good morning Tails. Did you sleep well?” Vanilla greeted me as he cracked opened an egg. “Yup. Is everybody else still sleeping?” I asked as Vanilla poured me a cup of orange juice.

“I believe so unless Sonic went out for an early jog.” She said as she flipped the eggs. “He’s still sleeping. He’s even drooling a bit, hehe.” I chuckled while reassuring her about Sonic.

“That’s good. How do you want your eggs?” Vanilla asked me as she grabbed another egg from the carton. “Scrambled please,” I answered as I took a sip of my juice.

“Tails, can you promise me something?” Vanilla spoke as she took a seat opposite of me. I placed my glass down and looked at her. “Sure.”

“When you and Sonic go to defeat Robotnik, take care of Sonic for me.” Vanilla kindly asked. I angled my head to the side, “What do you mean by that?”

“Sonic has been through a lot. I know he’s a bit difficult to be around but I think you can keep an eye out for him for me. Promise me you’ll watch his back.” Vanilla better explained.

“I promise,” I said as I gave her a reassuring smile. Suddenly a yawn was heard.

“That was a good night sleep. Oh, good morning.” Sonic came into the kitchen and sat in the seat next to me.

“I see you’re awake, finally. Want some coffee?” Vanilla offered as she went back to the eggs. “Yes please,” Sonic said as he yawned again. Vanilla poured some hot coffee into a cup and gave it to Sonic who sipped the warm liquid. He sighed in content as he began to feel refreshed.

___________________________________________________________________

“You two be careful now,” Vanilla said as she waved us goodbye as Sonic and I started up the Tornado.

“Don’t worry we will!” Sonic reassured her as he took his spot on top of the wings. “You ready Tails?” Sonic asked me. “You bet!” I said.

“Okay! Let’s go and beat Robotnik’s as- I mean butt!!” Sonic cut himself as he corrected himself before saying something he wasn’t.

The tornado began gaining speed before lifting off the ground into the sky.

“Woohoo!!” Sonic shouted to the sky as he felt the air in his quills. I only laughed at his enthusiasm as I began to fly towards wherever Robotnik is.

___________________________________________________________________

I’ll take it from here!

It had been an hour since we left Vanilla’s house in search of Robotnik. Sonic had become bored that he began sleeping on top of the wing. I just gazed at the endless sky.

Out of the corner of my eye, I see a glint of metal. I sped up as the glint became clearer. The glint came from a large aircraft surrounded by badniks.

“Sonic, wake up! I found Robotnik!” I yelled at him as I startled him awake. “Robotnik?! Looks like I have to start trashing.” Sonic cocked as he put himself into a battle position as I flew the tornado towards the aircraft.

Sonic spin attacked many of the badniks that tried to stop us. All of them fell to the ground as they didn’t stand a chance against him. Just as we headed towards the aircraft, a missile hit the left wing out of nowhere. Sonic tripped and held onto the wing with only one hand as the Tornado began to lose altitude.

“Tails!” Sonic shouted my name. “We’re losing altitude!” I shouted as I tried to lift the tornado up. Sonic looked at me in worry, he turned to look at the aircraft that was becoming farther away by the second.

“Tails! I’ll take it from here! You stay back and fix the tornado while I go and find Robotnik!” Sonic yelled as he tried to lift himself up.

“I’m not leaving you Sonic! We’ll make it!” I shouted back as I tried my hardest to get us up.

“Tails! You have to listen to me! The tornado won’t make it but I can! I can bounce off the badniks and get up to the aircraft!” Sonic explained as he readied himself.

“I won’t leave you!” I cried back as I tried to convince him we could make it.

“Tails! We don’t have much time! You have to trust me! Please!” Sonic cried out.

I have no choice.

“Okay! Go!” I shouted as Sonic readied himself. He jumped off the wing and bounced off the badniks as he reached the aircraft.

“Good luck,” I muttered as I flew the tornado down to the ground. I landed it and I got out the tornado as I watched the aircraft fly into oblivion, the clouds covering it.

I just stared at the sky as I prayed that Sonic will be alright. But I can’t keep staying like this, I got a plane to fix. I opened the trunk of the tornado and grabbed the toolkit and began working on the tornado.

___________________________________________________________________

I got you

I was able to repair the wing of the tornado while I waited for Sonic to return. I passed the time playing with the flickies, the native animals of the islands, that came to say hi. Many of them were birds, pigs, and squirrels. They were really friendly.

I sighed as I gazed back at the azure sky. It had been a roughy long time since Sonic had gone off to search for Robotnik on his own. I do wish he’s okay. I don’t want him getting hurt like when he got shot in Metropolis. I could only hope.

Out from the corner of my eye, I saw a yellow light falling from the sky. I squinted my eyes and saw who it was.

“Sonic!”

I quickly got up from the grass and started up the tornado. I lifted off the ground and flew over the large ocean, trying to get to Sonic as fast as I could.

“Sonic!” I cried out as I was able to see him unconscious.

I pushed the tornado to its limits as I got Sonic just in time before he landed in the water. Sonic landed on the wing, glowing yellow instead of being blue. He slowly stirred and looked at me.

“Don’t worry! I got you!” I cried out as I lifted the tornado up.

Sonic could only smile at me. I returned that smile.

Sonic got up from the wing and stood high and mighty as we flew through the sky. Sonic turned to face me and gave me a big ol’ grin before he jumped off the wing and started flying through the sky.

I was in both shock and amazement at his new ability as I followed behind him.

Since then Sonic and I have been inseparable. We turned from being friends to brothers. I was thankful I could meet someone like him, if I hadn’t, I wouldn’t be who I am today.",
