The summer had come and school was finished, that alone was enough to get Ishtan to fidget in the car seat, but today he had and even better reason the beach. Every year at the start of summer, and on one occasion the day before the last day of school, Ishtan’s parents and grandparents rented a beach cabin and spent a week taking in the sun. The thirteen year old otter cub looked forward to this one week out of the whole year. Well at least after Christmas. This year was special though because in the back seat of the four door jeep now sat two cubs rather than one. Keeping the otter company was his best friend a fox cub named Huaka. The two chatted away about nonsense as best as the furs up front could make out. The adults were overjoyed that their son had finally made some real friends, and the extra entertainment on this trip benefitted them now that the boy was old enough to be out of their sight. A boarder line crass joke draws the laughter of the back seat and a snort from the woman driving. “Watch it back there we still have time to turn around” states Ishtan’s father in a manner meant to convey a warning. But his dead pan gaze is affixed to the driver who composes herself in an attempt to set a good example for her child. “Sorry Pa” comes the disheartened voice of the shy otter. But the discomfort is quickly forgotten when his sees the face his friends is making while trying to stop laughing. Soon more laughter breaks out among the whole vehicle as they drive down the highway. The salt air moves in and the occupants can smell the coastline, a tell tail sign to the three otters that the trip was nearly over. In the distance the beach town becomes visible along with the marshes. The strip has a number of hotels and high end condos. It’s always busy and to mother and son very unappealing. The jeep slowly cuts through traffic and heads to the smaller side roads packed full of small cottages and cabins rented out to beach goers of all types. They reach the last offshoot road and turn down it. Cabins line all of the left side of this street and only half of the right as the state park’s parking lot extends to the side of the road. These spots are intended for the daytime beach fair and those with RV’s. Mrs. Ottermin pulls the vehicle to a stop in front of a weather worn two story cabin on the left of the road. She parks behind the green pick up belonging to her own parents who likely headed out at the crack of dawn. As soon as the engine quiets down the two boys take off like it were the pistol for race. The front of the cabin has a porch just big enough to sit out on. The screen door opens and an elder otter steps out on the welcome mat just in time to have her grandson take her into a bear hug. “NANA! You always get here before us” She kisses him on the forehead still marveling at the fact that he was now her height and would be passing his mom in a couple of years. “Well you see there are these hours before eight o’clock -“ ”No there aren’t” interrupts the fox behind his friend drawing her attention. “Maybe not for you two ohh!” she reaches into her pocket “Candy boys?” “Candy later Ma! Unpacking now.” comes the now serious voice of the driver as she walks up the steps with a box. “Oh it wont hurt-“ the younger female drops the heavy box into elder’s paws as she turns back to the car “I tried boys, but looks like we’re in trouble” she laughs and walks in followed by her son in-law. “Oh it wont kill them Veronica” He says batting Ishtan on the rear with his foot so to kick him into gear. The two run off to pitch in and soon the cabin is ready to be lived in. Up stairs the boys greet Umpy, Ishtan’s grandfather who is busy putting cloths into draws. The pair also notice the stash of whisky that the old man thinks he managed to get stowed away before they made it to his bedroom door. The cabin was small with only a kitchen and living room on the first floor and three bedrooms and a bathroom up stairs. The back bedroom was as always for Ishtan’s grandparents while his mom and dad would have the right front room leaving the left front for the fox and the otter. The pair hauled their luggage into the room and started to set it up. Ishtan made the bed and Hauka got the suit cases to fit in the closet space. With the sheets on the bed the fox finished it off by tossing on the pillows. “And all done now to the beach!” the todd jumped for joy and headed for the door. Not wanting to be left behind the otter gave chase “hey wait up” they had nearly made it to the exit when a body cut them off. “Not yet the three of us have to go get some groceries for the week” Mrs. Ottermin spun the keys around her finger “You two get to stay here BUT no beach yet.” Both cubs were crushed. As she made her exit her husband was closing the door to his side of the jeep. Nana stepped in to save the day passing the boys a couple of bucks “you know the Ice cream place is really in the state park... not ON the beach” she winks and joins the food expedition. “Of course you’ll have to pick me up chocolate eclair bar or else I might have seen you both sneaking over the dunes.” in the corner of the living room Umpy now sat in ‘his’ chair chuckling. As soon as the jeep turned at the end of the road the fox and otter made a break for the pavilion. It was a fair distance from the camp as the parking lot was huge, but it had a nice covered picnic area with changing/shower/bathrooms for beach goers and the RV neighborhood but most importantly an ice-cream parlor and snack shop. “This place is awesome!” Hauka shouted in the empty picnic area. “I told you” replied Ishtan licking the last of his frozen treat. “And this place is never really busy but there are some kids from all the campers that play over here sometimes, Oh and the rocks are fun to climb” his legs kicked over the side of the table they had taken. After all with out anyone to tell them not to do it being on the table was just so much more fun. “How long are your parents gonna be anyways?” asked the fox as he began to chew on his popsicle stick. “Aah well probably a while they have to come back across that bridge” he pointed as he squirmed a bit to the draw bridge currently raised in the air. Traffic tightly packed on both sides. “So not ever?” “Nah just to take us home at the end of the week” they laughed causing a bit of pain for Ishtan who had chosen to ignore his bladder earlier at the cabin. He jumped off the edge of the table “I gotta take a leak be right back” he headed for the door less entrance to the mens bath. The cement bath house was well vented with the sea breeze and the entrances in both the back and front. Despite the heat the building remained relatively cool. Bladder aching once more Ishtan picked up his pace to the line of urinals. His fingers fumbled with the zipper on his fly and then he made an attempt at opening the fly on his briefs. No such luck. Then again he never could get that thing to work like he believed it was supposed to and he wasn’t about to ask someone for lessons. Quickly he popped the button out and pulled on the waistband of his tighty whities to free his wiener. The first drips made it into the fabric of his underwear but the sudden flow to follow was fortunately lined up with the porcelain. The otter’s tail, that had been held closely to his legs on the way in, now playfully moved from side to side. With the pressure being relived the boy became more aware of the occupancy of the bath house. One of the showers was running in the back and but the stalls were all open. Feeling a bit naughty as he often did the otter shifted his gaze from the front entrance to the back figuring he’d notice anyone coming in. With a grin he stepped back from the urinal pushing his bladder harder to keep the stream on target. His heart beat faster and a strange tingle started just below his belly button. Another step back and he knew he couldn’t keep up much longer. The shower nob squeaks and the water goes silent. Ishtan’s quickened heart skips a beat and his strained stream sputters and stops as he rushes back to a proper distance from the toilet. Unable to push out any more pee the boy adjusts his briefs over his semi stiff dick and re buttons his shorts before making way back to his friend. “Hey took you long enough” Hauka grins and chuckles from the table top jumping off and meeting the otter halfway. “I saw a pile of drift wood over that way and it was huge! Let’s go check it out.” The otter forgot his moment in the bath house and chased after the fox already on his way out of the pavilion. “Hey no fair! You KNOW where it is and I don’t!” The two played in the warm sands until the sun started to go down. Fires could be seen lighting up around the campers as the boys bought one more ice cream to bring back to the elder otter. Later the groceries and dinner arrived and the cabin was awash with laughter and conversation. With the food eaten and the dishes started Mrs. Ottermin tells the boys to grab their coats and she’ll take them to the beach. They are out the door while she kisses her husband having effectively stuck him with the dishes. He shakes his head at her as she too grabs her coat. Over the dunes the already cold coastal air becomes even more chill but does little to stop the cubs from climbing, jumping, and generally rolling in the sands. Soon they all see the goal of the trip the precious coast line. All three make a charge for the water though one is unable to keep up with the other two. Suddenly sandals come flying off as they get in to the finale stretch of the run where the soft sand becomes firm and wet. A wave rushes in to greet them and the cold water runs over their furred feet. The fox jumps at the sudden change in temperature and starts back for dry land while the otter’s fur braces him against the chill, but not for long. Soon enough both head back and after walking the edge of the water Mrs. Ottermin steers them toward the dunes and the cabin, knowing she would not have such an easy time removing them tomorrow. Back at the cabin they drop their shoes on the porch and wipe their pads on the welcome mat. Inside Mr. Ottermin sits on the couch watching TV. Nana and Umpy have already hit the hey and Umpy’s snores can be heard even with the action movie going. The adults cuddle on the couch while the cubs chat on the floor watching the rest of the movie. The credits play and commercials start for the next movie but Mr. Ottermin hits the remote’s power button. “I thi” his maw is pried open by a yawn “yeah definitely time for bed, you too guys” the adults headed up though not before his mom knelt down and kissed Ishtan on the forehead. “See you in the morning kiddo” she said before turning, he of course blushed at the action but replied as he always did “Night Love you, and you Pa” in unison they called back “love you too” as they headed up the stairs. Ishtan looked at his friend who was giving him a look meant to irritate him. “Oh shut up” the otter huffed as he headed up the stairs. In the room he took off his shirt and tossed it to the side of the bed they had agreed would be his. It was a queen bed so they would have plenty of room but they had felt it important to mark out their territory ahead of time. The door to the bathroom shut and Ishtan realized that the coast was clear he dropped his shorts and pulled his pajama pants from his suitcase and quickly pulled them up. The toilet flushed and the door opened, Hauka padded into the room. “It’s all yours man” He announced to his friend before heading to his own suit case to dig out his Pjs. Ishtan took this as a polite ‘get out so I can change’ and headed for the bathroom despite not needing it. He dragged out the trip by hooking the strap on his pants that went over his tail which he usually ignored and headed back to the room. When he got there the fox was already laying on his side so he shut the door on his way. Both were very tired so despite wanting to chat about the day and what the next day would be like both passed on into sleep pretty quickly as the ocean made its distant roar.
