At that time, Egypt was undergoing modern reforms. And although also under Ottoman rule, the empire didn't have as much influence and control over Egypt as it did in other countries it held. Thus the family was not in the mainstream of persecution they would have been in had they stayed in Palestine.
Even back then, the Iscelberg Rat Family was wealthy...of the 'old money'.
However, in those days, they knew not to invest much of their resources in Egypt. Along with Egypt's early 19th century reforms were high taxes, and mostly designed to disadvantage the rich. The family chose to pursue investments outside of Egypt, thus were not within Egypt's tax jurisdiction.
Much of their money they had was kept in secret places secured at home.
Only a few million (like billions are in today's time) were either kept in Egyptian banks and in high interest municipal bonds.
The family put a fair amount of their financial resources into making high interest loans to Egyptian businesses that had difficulty securing a loan elsewhere.
The Iscelberg Rats also seen a good payout potential in investing in construction bonds when the Suez Canal was being built...In spite of the high taxes when they are cashed, the bonds did have the promise of a high interest yield. Plus the family had planed to hold the bonds until their full 25 year maturity.
Still, the family put most of their money into investments outside the country to avoid paying the high Egyptian taxes.
They still had an extravagant home, a fine, custom built carriage pulled by majestic, non-anthro horses, other wagons and coaches, and other nice stuff. But the family was still conscientious about finding out what the annual property taxes would be on something before they would acquire it.
After Egypt came under British control in 1882, thus running out Ottoman occupation, the family had more free reign of their religious and financial affairs.
Adin will someday posthumously be a great-great grand dad of the infamous Dr. Zander Iscelberg Rat you may have read about...It will be 43 years into the future before Zander is yet to be born on April Fools Day of 1958.

At this time Zander's great grand dad (Hanan I) is 43 years old.
Zander's grand dad (Hanan II) on his dad's side of the family is 24 years old.
It will be eight years yet before Zander's daddy (Hanan III) is born...Hanan II begins fathering cubs late in life at age 32.
