They pulled closed Ion's sternum and re-fastened the clamps to it, keeping his sternum tightly closed. Oliver and Meeka then stitched back closed Ion's chest incision and the surgery was finally complete. Meeka replaced Ion's anesthetic bag with a painkiller one, allowing him to slowly wake up. As Oliver and Meeka were cleaning up, Ion slowly opened his eyes, gagged a bit before remembering he was on a breathing tube before allowing it to continue breathing for him. Ion hoped this would be the last of his natural organs that would get replaced with synthetic ones, a third of his intestines and especially his heart, that was enough, though with his skills now he hasn't really gotten anymore serious injuries, which he hoped his good fortune would hopefully continue. Ion knew he would still have to have surgeries in the future, especially ones that will maintain his new organs but hoped they would be less frequent then what he was experiencing these past few years, especially with all the replacing he has had done. \n\nMeeka came back into the operating room a few minutes latter, noticing Ion was now awake, she came over and greeted him with her infectious smile. Ion tried to smile back though it was hard with his breathing tube still in place, Meeka told him to hold on for a second and remain calm as she slowly pulled out the breathing tube from his mouth. She affixed him with an oxygen mask, thinking it would make him more comfortable to which it did. Oliver came back in a second latter, cheery that Ion was awake, he also walked over to him as started asking Ion a few basic questions. Ion answered back slowly, but all his answers were positive and he was cleared to and start his recovery in the ICU. \n\nOnce there, all of his friends and his mate came in to see him, which did make Ion feel happy. Ion was fairly attentive and talkative, which was a surprise as usually after one of his heart surgeries he was groggy and usually very tired. They took this as a positive sign that Ion's new heart would make things different for him, make his life better then what he has been living through these past few years. After a few hours, his friends left but his mate Zephyr stayed behind to look after him and to be by his side through out Ion's entire recovery. Ion did make quick progress though, he was out of the ICU by that evening and literally was able to start taking small walks the next day under the supervision of Zephyr. Ion progress during his recovery was ineradicable, it even surprised Ion himself as it usually took a lot longer then this after one of his heart surgeries to be this far in the recover process. He was discharged from the hospital only after a few days, allowing him to continue recovering at the comfort of his home. He was told to do light activities until his incision fully closed where he could return to his normal routines. \n\nOnce it did though, Ion felt a new pleasure in life, he was able to do things better and not feel unwell after intense activities, bringing him a lot more joy. Ion kicked himself for not getting this done sooner, looking back on the amount of suffering he put himself through that past few years did upset him but he always cheered up with the thought better late then never, and right now he felt great, excited for what was to come in life again. Even though he was feeling better that he ever had since before his serious injury, there was still a part of him that felt something was missing. At first he though it was his natural heart though when he got down to it, that wasn't it, his new synthetic heart felt no different to him then his natural one, heck it may even feel better. And it wasn't his intestines either, he had been missing a lot of those since he was 18 due to his serious injury and only started feeling better there five years ago when he had synthetic ones implanted in their place. No it was something else, something he could not put a finger on, but something of his self was definitely missing.
