Flint was getting excited, over the weekend he made plans with his two friends, Ion and Zephyr to finally go camping with just the three of them the next weekend. They have done something like this before though, some older members of Flint's tribe would accompany them to make sure they were safe, but with all three of them training in fighting skills and being a bit older, Flint's parents finally let him go off and spend a night on his own with his friends. All day Monday and Tuesday at school, the three of them continued talking about their plans for the weekend as they were all just so excited. When Wednesday rolled around, Flint woke up feeling a bit unwell but he still managed to go to school and have a somewhat productive day, continuing his plans with his friends.
However when Flint came home that afternoon, a sudden sharp pain started pulsating in his chest, as he had difficulty breathing. His siblings saw him struggling to walk towards his tent when Flint suddenly collapsed on the ground. His siblings screamed for help as his parents and elders came running. They took his pulse and saw that he had none as he stopped breathing and CPR was performed on him right away as an ambulance was called. Paramedics arrived shortly after and were able to successfully deliberate Flint and get his heart beating again. They rushed Flint to the hospital were he was still breathing heavy and in pain. There he went through multiple tests and medications were given to him to help ease his symptoms. Test reveled that Flint had a cardiac episode and he should be fine with some rest as with the medications, his condition was stabilizing. He was then placed in a private room for the night with his family staying by his side to comfort him.
However over the night and into the morning, Flint's condition began to worsen as his vitals started to slowly drop with his raspy breathing coming back. After consulting with cardiac doctors, the recommendation was that Flint undergo emergency open heart surgery to fully determine the problem. His parents agreed and Flint was quickly prepped and taken into the operating room. There he was greeted by the nice bunny and mouse surgeon that had almost always operated on him in the past. Flint liked these two as they were always kind to him and made him feel comfortable during these times. They tried to make Flint comfortable as he was still in a bit of distress with his breathing and put him under as quick as they could to help alleviate his pain.
The surgeons quickly got to work and started the surgery, cutting opening Flint's chest and exposing his cute little heart again. Taking their time they fully examined the inside of his chest but after the mouse surgeon did a full physical examination of Flint's slowly beating heart, they discovered that the repairs made to it a couple of years ago had started to fail. Flint's heart was now way took weak to even try remaking the repairs and it would eventually cease to function. Making sure to re-examine multiple times, the surgeons came to the sad conclusion that Flint's heart was beyond repair and had a few days, maybe a week to live. They closed up his chest and wheeled Flint back to his hospital room where they gave his family the sad news that Flint was nearing the end of his life after being a brave warrior all these years, fighting for his survival. His family were in shock and tears as Flint began to wake as he was still feeling very weak, more weak then he normally did after his other heart surgeries.
His family and doctors slowly and calmly broke the news to Flint that he didn't have long to live as fear and panic started to overcome him. With Flint now on palliative care, the doctors tried to make him as comfortable as possible for his final days as all he wanted was to see his two friends one more time. It was late though and almost midnight that Friday morning as his parents promised him that they would get his friends to him first thing in the morning but wanted him to still get some rest to conserve the little strength he had left.
Friday morning, Ion and Zephyr went to school as they always did and were sadden again when Flint missed his second straight day of school, as they wanted to finalize their plans for their camping trip the next day. Just before lunch though, Ion and Zephyr were called down to the office where they found their parents waiting with sad looks on their faces. Ion and Zephyr were quickly told that the were not in trouble but that their friend Flint had little time to live. Ion and Zephyr were in shock as a per found sadness filled the room. Their parents quickly took Ion and Zephyr to the hospital where Flint was so they could say their good byes.
As they walked up to the room Ion and Zephyr were extremely nervous, not knowing what awaited them inside, as more sadness overcame them seeing Flint with all the medical equipment hooked up to him. Flint's condition had worsened to a point where his breathing was very raspy, his heart rate and blood pressure was very low and he could barely keep his eyes open as he was very weak. Ion and Zephyr went to Flint's side, as he slowly opened his eyes and a smile appeared that his friends were now there with him. They tried to make small talk, giving Flint the time he needed to get his words out as the hours passed by. It was getting late as visiting hours were coming to an end but Flint stressed that he wanted Ion and Zephyr with him to the end and with his condition continuing to worsen, where he most likely wouldn't make it to morning where visiting hours would reopen, the medical staff made an exception for Ion and Zephyr to stay by Flint's side. Flint was now having a hard time staying awake, going in and out of consciousness, but every tie he came to, Ion and Zephyr would continue to have small talk with him, which put a smile on his face.
In the early hours of Saturday morning, the day that the three of them looked forward to a week ago, Flint's breathing became really sporadic, as his heart rate was dwindling. Trying to reach out with his hands, he tried to gesture to Ion and Zephyr to take a hold of them, to which they did. Flint thanked them for being with him these past few years and was grateful to have met them and become friends with him. Tears started rolling down Ion and Zephyr's eyes as Flint closed his, taking one last deep breath before a smile appeared on his face as the ECG slowly started to show a flat line. The eerie unwelcome long beep of the machine started to sound and great sadness filled the room, as Flint was no more.
