Pencil...

The featured pencil is named 'Hristo Botev'. This pencil was made in Bulgaria  sometime before 1945.

My friend Dan (who sold me these pencils) gave me a bit of insight, which I will share here.

DAN: "There was a language reform in 1945 and the last letter of Botev was removed from these type of words. Христо Ботев (Hristo Botev) most probably is the name of the factory.
Otherwise, Botev was a Bulgarian poet and revolutionary, who fought and died for our freedom from Ottoman rule.
Frankly speaking after 1945 the majority of the pencils manufactured in Bulgaria were branded "Hemus". Prior to 1945 there must have been much more brands and types.

On June 2 we commemorate the Day of Botev - all fallen/died for our freedom. On that day in all cities, towns, villages at noon time sirens go off for 5 minutes. We all stand still, cars stop and give a minutes of silence to our heroes.

The 'Hristo Botev' pencil has a VERY dark and very unforgiving lead; it doesn't erase well (as I sadly discovered lol).
