"description": "Well, as I said, I won't be drawing Halloween to the exclusion of all else ...so, here's a bit of 'else'.\n\nOur subject is Belfry the Mouse, from the Christian storybook series, 'Little Overhill' ...as well the Christian animated series, 'Theo Presents'.\n\nAs I know nothing about the book series, I'll be writing here about the cartoon. ^^\n\nBelfry is described by his creators thus,\n\n\"[Belfry] is the most childlike character of the series, and represents attitudes and questions of young people (adults too).\nHe is really the character that most children will identify with, as they are much like him\"\n\nShort, fat, nerdy and dressed like an ad for Aquascutum? That's not me at all (save the fat part)! XD\n\nEither way, at least I don't identify with Scratch the Cat,\n\n\"Scratch the cat is primarily an adversary of Luther and Belfry. He is 'like a roaring lion seeking someone to devour,' and, so, a type of Satan, or Old Scratch of English literature\"\n\n...now that it's mentioned, I could use a snack right about now ...and please tell me why I opted to draw Belfry over Scratch ^^\n\nAnyway, what's 'Theo Presents' about?\n\nThe animated series claims,\n\n\"Big theology for little kids. Teaching children God's Word through great stories and beautiful animation\" -Theo Presents (FaceBook)\n\nThis's mostly true, as the series strongly favors teaching over entertainment. The lessons are short (only ten minutes or so, each) and could be played as part of Sunday school. :3\n\nFor the curious, here's a 'lesson' from Theo (link tested 10/21/2020): https://vimeo.com/250664849\n\n'Theo Presents' is somewhat *heavy-handed with its messages---it lacks, consequently, the universal appeal of (say) 'Veggie Tales'.\nEven so, the animation is of the eye-candy sort, and comes in a variety of styles here (more on this later).\n\n*ie, it's written with Christian audiences in mind\n\nThe host of the show is an English pastor named 'Theo', who lives in a cottage that looks like it was lifted from a Thomas Kinkade painting. :P\nTheo shares his home with two mice (Luther and Belfry) and a dog (Bumper).\nThe animals (esp. the mice) are here to (incidentally) help Theo introduce the episode's lesson, usually by needing to learn one themselves (subsequent to getting into trouble, etc). ^^\n\nThe animals aren't the stars here---instead, we learn our lessons from Theo's 'Shoebox Bible Theater', through which the Bible 'comes alive'.\nThe 'shoebox' characters and their world are CG-animated, but the style is charming, and has an old-time, pop-up book aesthetic. :3\n\nIn addition, we have animation that looks like it came straight out of Spumco (Ren and Stimpy)---it's used whenever (comical) visuals are needed to accompany Theo's analogies and so forth\n(ie, introductory stuff relating to the main lesson).\nLast, there is some rotoscoped animation (human characters) now and then (which is often accompanied with music).\n\nVisually, 'Theo Presents' is all over the place---it's all good stuff, to be sure, but it's a bit much (most viewers will have preferences).\n\nSo far as I know, 'Theo Presents' was never on television---it was made for the home-video market (I could find only five 'episodes' or 'volumes' of 'Theo Presents').\n\nAnyway...\n\nThe animation and designs of Theo and the mice looks very Disney-esque, to my eye---Belfry here could easily exist in the world of the 'Rescue Rangers' or even 'The Great Mouse Detective'.\n\nAlas, the only Disney connection I could find was the name 'Debbie Armstrong', but that's not a reliable lead (could be a different person).\n\nI contacted the 'Theo Presents' FB page for more information,\n\nMARTEN: \"...Were any of the [animation team] members associated, or formerly associated, with either Disney or Wang Film?\"\n\nTHEO-FB (after about twenty minutes): \"Theo has been blessed with world class animators. Many of them have worked in the past for the highest caliber production houses. None worked for Wang that I'm aware of\"\n\nThe fact they tried to dodge the 'Disney' part of my question is suggestive of an affirmative, but it's not real evidence.\n\nAnyway...\n\nWhat about the featured pencil?\n\nI drew this card with the Zephyr (as usual), and delineated the line art with the 913 'Thesis' model from General Pencil Company.\nThe 913 is a thick, round-barrel pencil. It produces a medium-dark, consistent line that (thankfully) erases well (I messed up Belfry's far hand). :P\nThe 913 is average-to-good quality; nothing special; does its job. ^^\n\nI bought this pencil from the thrift store. It came in a bag with several others of its kind, along with several Eagle 'Veriblack' 315s. The Eagles were of the same thickness as the General 913, though despite the name, they produce a much lighter line than the 913.",
