"description": "The proceeding review was written way back in February ...but the art was made mere hours ago. :3\n\nFor the art, I opted to draw Fox as opposed to Franklin himself (albeit, I promise to draw Franklin one day ...though I cherish the show, Franklin is my least favorite character from). ^^\n\nAnyway, for those who don't get the picture (and/or cannot read my chicken scratch), the drawing shows Fox wrapped in his mummy costume ...which is unraveling.\n\n\"Mom! I need a pin!\"\n\nXD This scenario was taken from the episode we'll be looking at here (it's among my favorite moments).\n\nEnjoy!\n\n===============\n\nHalloween never really meant much to me growing up. In those days, my church hosted 'Hallelujah Night' on Halloween, to discourage the children from trick-or-treating.\nHallelujah Night was held at our fellowship hall, offering games (like bean bag toss) from which candy could be won. The church also offered snack plates (with fish crackers, pretzels and a cake slice---stuff like that).\nCostumes were discouraged, and there weren't any festive decorations per my recollection. The event was kept simple and practical, to secure our souls safe from the Devil and to save the kids from poisonous treats as well from the pedophiles who distribute them (i.e., our neighbors).\n\n...And not too much has changed on my end---as someone who fears the eternal flames, Halloween remains my least favorite holiday. ^^\n\n...And, yes, I'm aware of the pagan origins of Christmas, etc---humbug to all holidays and merriment, says I! D:\n\n...Anyway.\n\nFranklin. I like Franklin. When I first decided I wanted to learn how to (properly) draw, I began by practicing some of the Franklin cast, esp. Fox and Rabbit. For references, I bought over a dozen Franklin books, as well a DVD of some episodes (Franklin's Turtle Tales).\nEventually, I moved on to drawing HB/WB-styled characters (designwise, HB/WB's more versatile as well easier to draw, hence my present aesthetic).\n\nConcisely, I have a soft spot for Franklin despite the show's many shortcomings.\n\nSo, let's look at Franklin's Halloween ...because Halloween. ^^;\n\n***SPOILERS!!!***SPOILERS!!!***SPOILERS!!!***SPOILERS!!!***\n\nLink (tested 02/08/2019): https://www.dailymotion.com/video/x67q326\nFranklin's Halloween is the 'B side'; move to 11:45 on the timestamp.\n\nThe synopsis of the story (provided by dailyMotion) reads,\n\n\"Everyone creates costumes for the big party that will end with a walk through Mr. Moles 'Haunted House' - alone!\"\n\nRight, so... as a disclaimer, anyone with a weak heart and/or struggling with haunted-house traumas: you have been forewarned!\nHalloween doesn't get much spookier than that which we're about to go through... so grab your flashlights and let's get going!\n\nThe story begins around the midday of Halloween, at the school playground.\n\nNothing is scarier than school, right? I mean, I'm 38 and I still get jitters thinking about it!\n\nWe see Franklin, Bear and Goose conversing about some of the things each likes about Halloween. Beaver and Fox happen along to hijack the conversation.\nBeaver and Fox begin an are-not-are-to disagreement on the existence of ghosts, which leads to a mention of the annual haunted-house exhibit ...which the cubs admit was a bit too scary for most of them---only Bear was brave enough to enter the haunted house alone. Even so, Bear is humble about it,\n\nBEAR: \"We were just little kids last year. I bet we'll be really brave this year, right?\"\n\nThe others agree: this'll be the year each'll brave the attraction alone! ...which shouldn't be difficult at all, considering some of them have been through it at least once before, thus knowing what to expect. :P\n\nThe cubs enter the schoolhouse, wherein they ask of one another what each will be wearing as costumes. It's decided the cubs will keep their ideas secret, save for Bear, who goes as a ghost each year (how old are these kids?).\n\nFor Halloween, my dress will be that of a responsible adult ...I'm sure I'll fool no one.\n\nAnyway...\n\nSchool's out. Franklin and Bear share the road home together. Along the way, Franklin confesses his apprehensions about entering the haunted house,\n\nFRANKLIN: \"...What if I'm too scared to go into the haunted house?\"\n\nBEAR: \"Aw, there's nothing to worry about, Franklin. ...things are only scary before you know what they are---afterwords they don't seem nearly as bad\"\n\nBear continues his reassurance by offering to go into the haunted house first ...an offer which was overheard by Goose (who appeared from nowhere). And so the other cubs learn Bear will be going in first. :3\n\nAt home, franklin pads the episode by trying on different costumes for the party (albeit, there's a loose TMNT reference to be seen here).\nFranklin at last settles on a homespun '*Franklin-stein' disguise.\n\n*no, Franklin doesn't have it wrong: 'Franklin-stein' is very different from Frankenstein's 'fiend', otherwise Franklin would be wearing a lab coat. :3\n...Digressing, but this reminds me of something from childhood. I asked a friend if he thought it would be a fun idea to shimmy inside the crawl space of his house, to explore it. My friend hesitated: he told me his cousin threw a Frankenstein mask down there, and my friend was afraid of it ...I took the hint, hence the crawl space remains unexplored to this day. :3\n\nIt's time for the party! Yeah, it doesn't seem the Woodlanders go trick-or-treating, rather they throw a party at the Woodland Village Square (a somewhat rare location in the series).\nOne thing I love about this scene (as well the main reason I chose to review this), is for the party's music; it's just digital instrumentation, but it's TOO GOOD for this episode! XD\nSeriously, it sounds like a 'real' track---it even has a familiarity to it that I can't place.\n\nAnyway... Franklin's parents walk with him to the party. As they approach, a ghost breezes past!\n\nFRANKLIN (to his mom): \"Ha-ha! That's no ghost: it's Bear! He always wears that costume\"\n\nInside the main building, we see some of the characters in their costumes. Goose is disguised ...as a rat (idgi), and Fox is wrapped in mummy bandages.\nAs for Beaver, we see she's dressed as Baby Bonnie Hood.\n\n...All right, Beaver's really dressed as Red Riding Hood, but a Darkstalkers/Franklin crossover would be ...Stupid (so let's forget it).\n\n*ahem*\n\nAfter some exchange among Franklin, Beaver and Fox, the time arrives for our heroes to challenge the haunted house! D:\n\nBEAVER (anxious): \"Well... who's first?\"\n\nFRANKLIN: \"Bear. Right?\"\n\nFOX: \"Isn't he here?\"\n\nGOOSE: \"No one's seen him, Franklin; he just ...disappeared\".\n\nThe friends conclude that Bear already went in, and was claimed by the evils of the house.\n\nBEAVER: \"Your turn, Franklin\"\n\n...On one paw, I'd expect that from Beaver; on the other, that's almost too terrible! XD\n\nBEAVER (continuing): \"You called it; you're next in line\"\n\nFranklin's peers dare him to venture forth, alone into the threshold of doom.\nFrom the worm-eaten walls of the haunted house, the agonized wailings of a tortured soul howls! D: ...Must be a Frankenstein mask in there! ^^\n\nAs Franklin creeps toward the Hell house, he recites the words his friend Bear shared with him on the road, about fear of the unknown.\nThe door creaks open, seemingly on its own volition, beckoning Franklin's entrance.\nFranklin enters the drear hole---the door closes behind him, and a voice receives Franklin from the shadows,\n\nVOICE: \"Welcome ...Franklin! MUHAHA!\"\n\nA few moments of suspense is all we get before the dimmer switch is raised, revealing the voice as belonging to the friendly Mr. Mole,\n\nFRANKLIN: \"Boy, you sure scared me!\"\n\nMr. MOLE: \"I'll take that as a compliment to my handiwork, Franklin. Face-tickling streamers; a rope to open my ghostly door, and wooden-spoon skeleton bones!\"\n\nFRANKLIN: \"Neat\"\n\n...I can't tell whether Mr. Mole is dressed as Friar Tuck or Quasimodo. :P\n\nRegardless, Mr. Mole as something interesting to say,\n\nMr. MOLE: \"I must say, you were very braving being the first to come in\"\n\nFRANKLIN: \"The first? So Bear didn't come in earlier?\"\n\nMr MOLE: \"Bear? Oh, no. Poor Bear's home in bed with a very bad cold\"\n\n...How does Mr. Mole know this? More importantly, why didn't Franklin (I mean, telephones exist in Woodland, and Franklin and Bear both use them)?\n\nFRANKLIN: \"At home? But the ghost... If that wasn't Bear, then who...\"\n\nFranklin bursts through the door, to warn his friends waiting for him outside---the ghost from the party (which, incidentally, only Franklin saw) must have been a real ghost! D:\n\nBeaver is skeptical, but her certainty is shaken.\n\nSuddenly, the ghost appears hovering high above our heroes, Ooo-ing with all its Ooo! D:\n\nThe cubs scatter, save for Franklin, whose wisdom has emboldened him ...that and the fact of Franklin's notice of a errant feather shed by the 'ghost',\n\nFRANKLIN: \"Hey, that's no ghost---that's Mr. Owl!\"\n\nGHOST (Mr. Owl's voice): \"Happy Halloween, and a scary good night!\"\n\nThe other cubs apparently witnessed this, and so emerge from their hidingplaces.\n\nTo wrap up the episode, Franklin decides it would be a good idea for he and his friends to bring Bear a bag of candy (Bear, being the cliche 'fat' character in an animated series, values candy very highly).\n\nThe cubs deliver the goodie bag on Bear's porch. Those are the best friends a bear could ever ...AH-CHOO!\"\n\n~Fin\n\nI adored every moment of this! XD\n\nCONCLUSION: This is one of those uncommon Halloween episodes that I can relate to---it's about going to a party and NOT being scared. I dunno---just something simple about that to appreciate. :3\nThe story here is fine. The cast includes most of the main characters (no Rabbit, alas), each of which gets a decent amount of screen time---enough to show off their personalities. Really, there isn't much here to complain about, given the demographic the show's intended for. :3\n\n",
"description_bbcode_parsed": "<span style='word-wrap: break-word;'>The proceeding review was written way back in February ...but the art was made mere hours ago. :3<br /><br />For the art, I opted to draw Fox as opposed to Franklin himself (albeit, I promise to draw Franklin one day ...though I cherish the show, Franklin is my least favorite character from). ^^<br /><br />Anyway, for those who don&#039;t get the picture (and/or cannot read my chicken scratch), the drawing shows Fox wrapped in his mummy costume ...which is unraveling.<br /><br />&quot;Mom! I need a pin!&quot;<br /><br />XD This scenario was taken from the episode we&#039;ll be looking at here (it&#039;s among my favorite moments).<br /><br />Enjoy!<br /><br />===============<br /><br />Halloween never really meant much to me growing up. In those days, my church hosted &#039;Hallelujah Night&#039; on Halloween, to discourage the children from trick-or-treating.<br />Hallelujah Night was held at our fellowship hall, offering games (like bean bag toss) from which candy could be won. The church also offered snack plates (with fish crackers, pretzels and a cake slice---stuff like that).<br />Costumes were discouraged, and there weren&#039;t any festive decorations per my recollection. The event was kept simple and practical, to secure our souls safe from the Devil and to save the kids from poisonous treats as well from the pedophiles who distribute them (i.e., our neighbors).<br /><br />...And not too much has changed on my end---as someone who fears the eternal flames, Halloween remains my least favorite holiday. ^^<br /><br />...And, yes, I&#039;m aware of the pagan origins of Christmas, etc---humbug to all holidays and merriment, says I! D:<br /><br />...Anyway.<br /><br />Franklin. I like Franklin. When I first decided I wanted to learn how to (properly) draw, I began by practicing some of the Franklin cast, esp. Fox and Rabbit. For references, I bought over a dozen Franklin books, as well a DVD of some episodes (Franklin&#039;s Turtle Tales).<br />Eventually, I moved on to drawing HB/WB-styled characters (designwise, HB/WB&#039;s more versatile as well easier to draw, hence my present aesthetic).<br /><br />Concisely, I have a soft spot for Franklin despite the show&#039;s many shortcomings.<br /><br />So, let&#039;s look at Franklin&#039;s Halloween ...because Halloween. ^^;<br /><br />***SPOILERS!!!***SPOILERS!!!***SPOILERS!!!***SPOILERS!!!***<br /><br />Link (tested 02/08/2019): <a href=\"https://www.dailymotion.com/video/x67q326\" rel=\"nofollow\">https://www.dailymotion.com/video/x67q326</a><br />Franklin&#039;s Halloween is the &#039;B side&#039;; move to 11:45 on the timestamp.<br /><br />The synopsis of the story (provided by dailyMotion) reads,<br /><br />&quot;Everyone creates costumes for the big party that will end with a walk through Mr. Moles &#039;Haunted House&#039; - alone!&quot;<br /><br />Right, so... as a disclaimer, anyone with a weak heart and/or struggling with haunted-house traumas: you have been forewarned!<br />Halloween doesn&#039;t get much spookier than that which we&#039;re about to go through... so grab your flashlights and let&#039;s get going!<br /><br />The story begins around the midday of Halloween, at the school playground.<br /><br />Nothing is scarier than school, right? I mean, I&#039;m 38 and I still get jitters thinking about it!<br /><br />We see Franklin, Bear and Goose conversing about some of the things each likes about Halloween. Beaver and Fox happen along to hijack the conversation.<br />Beaver and Fox begin an are-not-are-to disagreement on the existence of ghosts, which leads to a mention of the annual haunted-house exhibit ...which the cubs admit was a bit too scary for most of them---only Bear was brave enough to enter the haunted house alone. Even so, Bear is humble about it,<br /><br />BEAR: &quot; We were just little kids last year. I bet we&#039;ll be really brave this year, right?&quot;<br /><br />The others agree: this&#039;ll be the year each&#039;ll brave the attraction alone! ...which shouldn&#039;t be difficult at all, considering some of them have been through it at least once before, thus knowing what to expect. :P<br /><br />The cubs enter the schoolhouse, wherein they ask of one another what each will be wearing as costumes. It&#039;s decided the cubs will keep their ideas secret, save for Bear, who goes as a ghost each year (how old are these kids?).<br /><br />For Halloween, my dress will be that of a responsible adult ...I&#039;m sure I&#039;ll fool no one.<br /><br />Anyway...<br /><br />School&#039;s out. Franklin and Bear share the road home together. Along the way, Franklin confesses his apprehensions about entering the haunted house,<br /><br />FRANKLIN: &quot;...What if I&#039;m too scared to go into the haunted house?&quot;<br /><br />BEAR: &quot;Aw, there&#039;s nothing to worry about, Franklin. ...things are only scary before you know what they are---afterwords they don&#039;t seem nearly as bad&quot;<br /><br />Bear continues his reassurance by offering to go into the haunted house first ...an offer which was overheard by Goose (who appeared from nowhere). And so the other cubs learn Bear will be going in first. :3<br /><br />At home, franklin pads the episode by trying on different costumes for the party (albeit, there&#039;s a loose TMNT reference to be seen here).<br />Franklin at last settles on a homespun &#039;*Franklin-stein&#039; disguise.<br /><br />*no, Franklin doesn&#039;t have it wrong: &#039;Franklin-stein&#039; is very different from Frankenstein&#039;s &#039;fiend&#039;, otherwise Franklin would be wearing a lab coat. :3<br />...Digressing, but this reminds me of something from childhood. :3<br /><br />It&#039;s time for the party! Yeah, it doesn&#039;t seem the Woodlanders go trick-or-treating, rather they throw a party at the Woodland Village Square (a somewhat rare location in the series).<br />One thing I love about this scene (as well the main reason I chose to review this), is for the party&#039;s music; it&#039;s just digital instrumentation, but it&#039;s TOO GOOD for this episode! XD<br />Seriously, it sounds like a &#039;real&#039; track---it even has a familiarity to it that I can&#039;t place.<br /><br />Anyway... Franklin&#039;s parents walk with him to the party. As they approach, a ghost breezes past!<br /><br />FRANKLIN (to his mom): &quot;Ha-ha! That&#039;s no ghost: it&#039;s Bear! He always wears that costume&quot;<br /><br />Inside the main building, we see some of the characters in their costumes. Goose is disguised ...as a rat (idgi), and Fox is wrapped in mummy bandages.<br />As for Beaver, we see she&#039;s dressed as Baby Bonnie Hood.<br /><br />...All right, Beaver&#039;s really dressed as Red Riding Hood, but a Darkstalkers/Franklin crossover would be ...Stupid (so let&#039;s forget it).<br /><br />*ahem*<br /><br />After some exchange among Franklin, Beaver and Fox, the time arrives for our heroes to challenge the haunted house! D:<br /><br />BEAVER (anxious): &quot;Well... who&#039;s first?&quot;<br /><br />FRANKLIN: &quot;Bear. Right?&quot;<br /><br />FOX: &quot;Isn&#039;t he here?&quot;<br /><br />GOOSE: &quot; No one&#039;s seen him, Franklin; he just ...disappeared&quot;.<br /><br />The friends conclude that Bear already went in, and was claimed by the evils of the house.<br /><br />BEAVER: &quot;Your turn, Franklin&quot;<br /><br />...On one paw, I&#039;d expect that from Beaver; on the other, that&#039;s almost too terrible! XD<br /><br />BEAVER (continuing): &quot; You called it; you&#039;re next in line&quot;<br /><br />Franklin&#039;s peers dare him to venture forth, alone into the threshold of doom.<br />From the worm-eaten walls of the haunted house, the agonized wailings of a tortured soul howls! D: ...Must be a Frankenstein mask in there! ^^<br /><br />As Franklin creeps toward the Hell house, he recites the words his friend Bear shared with him on the road, about fear of the unknown.<br />The door creaks open, seemingly on its own volition, beckoning Franklin&#039;s entrance.<br />Franklin enters the drear hole---the door closes behind him, and a voice receives Franklin from the shadows,<br /><br />VOICE: &quot;Welcome ...Franklin! MUHAHA!&quot;<br /><br />A few moments of suspense is all we get before the dimmer switch is raised, revealing the voice as belonging to the friendly Mr. Mole,<br /><br />FRANKLIN: &quot;Boy, you sure scared me!&quot;<br /><br />Mr. MOLE: &quot;I&#039;ll take that as a compliment to my handiwork, Franklin. Face-tickling streamers; a rope to open my ghostly door, and wooden-spoon skeleton bones!&quot;<br /><br />FRANKLIN: &quot;Neat&quot;<br /><br />...I can&#039;t tell whether Mr. Mole is dressed as Friar Tuck or Quasimodo. :P<br /><br />Regardless, Mr. Mole as something interesting to say,<br /><br />Mr. MOLE: &quot;I must say, you were very braving being the first to come in&quot;<br /><br />FRANKLIN: &quot; The first? So Bear didn&#039;t come in earlier?&quot;<br /><br />Mr MOLE: &quot;Bear? Oh, no. Poor Bear&#039;s home in bed with a very bad cold&quot;<br /><br />...How does Mr. Mole know this? More importantly, why didn&#039;t Franklin (I mean, telephones exist in Woodland, and Franklin and Bear both use them)?<br /><br />FRANKLIN: &quot; At home? But the ghost... If that wasn&#039;t Bear, then who...&quot;<br /><br />Franklin bursts through the door, to warn his friends waiting for him outside---the ghost from the party (which, incidentally, only Franklin saw) must have been a real ghost! D:<br /><br />Beaver is skeptical, but her certainty is shaken.<br /><br />Suddenly, the ghost appears hovering high above our heroes, Ooo-ing with all its Ooo! D:<br /><br />The cubs scatter, save for Franklin, whose wisdom has emboldened him ...that and the fact of Franklin&#039;s notice of a errant feather shed by the &#039;ghost&#039;,<br /><br />FRANKLIN: &quot;Hey, that&#039;s no ghost---that&#039;s Mr. Owl!&quot;<br /><br />GHOST (Mr. Owl&#039;s voice): &quot;Happy Halloween, and a scary good night!&quot;<br /><br />The other cubs apparently witnessed this, and so emerge from their hidingplaces.<br /><br />To wrap up the episode, Franklin decides it would be a good idea for he and his friends to bring Bear a bag of candy (Bear, being the cliche &#039;fat&#039; character in an animated series, values candy very highly).<br /><br />The cubs deliver the goodie bag on Bear&#039;s porch. The cubs run off after giving a rap to Bear&#039;s door. Bear discovers the bag,<br /><br />BEAR (to self): &quot;Candies! Those are the best friends a bear could ever ...AH-CHOO!&quot;<br /><br />~Fin<br /><br />I adored every moment of this!
