All right, say you think the card is worth a dollar. Just bid a dollar. If no one else bids, you would NOT pay a dollar: you'd pay only $0.00 (plus whatever taxes---shipping is on me).
If another person bids, and (say) they bid $0.75, your bid would remain in the lead, but if the auction ended there, you'd pay about $0.76 (because their bid was $0.24 below your max bid).
