rather, read about me drawing. :P\n\nAnyway...\n\nWATCHER: \"...cool to see how your base sketches look, love seeing how others draw\"\n\nI can do better!\n\nAll right, so I wanna make a Timmy art (what else is new, right?) and since there seems to be some interest in my process, I'll go through it from blank page to finished product.\n\n1. Tools of the Trade\n\nFirst, I need to gather my materials together.\n\nTo the chagrin of several who responded to my last poll, I do prefer tablet paper for these scribbles. It's likely just a phase, but for now it's here to stay.\n\nTo size my characters, I use a circle template.\n\nThe pencil I use is a Kuru Toga 0.5 HB mechanical pencil; mine is the 'Pikachu Farm' edition, which I bought in 2015 for ACEO.\n\nFor erasing, I use cap erasers. I know some prefer putty erasers, but considering how tiny my scribbles are, I need sharp erasers like these.\n\nFor coloring, I use a variety of pencils. Although I hadn't room to show it here, I have a color chart that shows what each color looks like before I commit to it.\n\nLast, sugar---sugar is good! :9\n\n2. Planning the Sketch\n\nBefore I begin drawing, I need something TO draw. Ideas sometimes derive from watcher comments/notes or from a need to answer a question, clarify an answer, or to generally expand on Timmy's universe.\nThis cartoon is just silly; it doesn't hold any especial significances. :3\n\nSometimes, I need to make a mock or practice sketch in order to preempt any potential issues. In this case, it's not too clear what the characters are doing, so they will require some repositioning.\n\nI generally don't write on my practice sketches, but I have here for to give a glimpse into my thoughts.\n\n3. The Undersketch\n\nAs the viewer can see, I continue to fool around despite the earlier sketch.\n\nI'm not too concerned with heroic proportions or anything like that---I go for 'close enough'. In fact, where Timmy's concerned, I draw freehanded---the only guide I use for Timmy is the sphere for his head and general length (Timmy is canonically three head-heights, though I vary this from time to time).\n\nHm. Seems we've something going on in the background---I wonder what is?\n\n4. Hardlining and clean-up\n\nTimes to press hard on this paper, this terrible ruled paper! D: ...XDXD\n\nAll right, enough of that. :3\n\nThis step entails final detail adjustments, the darkening of lines we like and the erasure of lines we do not.\nI do not endeavor to remove all traces of guidelines, etc.\nFor one, I cannot remove them all. ^^;\nFor two, I like the effect of guideline remnants (drawings should look like drawings).\n\nSo, yes, to answer one (almost-) question from a watcher: I do erase lines and I do make mistakes. ^^;\nMy art has all sorts of problems. In fact, one could use most any one of my cartoons to illustrate a dictionary of cartooner errors (...which I'd be fine with, presuming I collected some royalties).\n\nIdeally, a cartooner would use better tools than mechanical pencils and toothless paper. Wooden pencils (of varying hardness) allow one to widen or constrict line art as necessary (by drawing on the side of the graphite) as well drawing with these (confidently) allows the lines to have better curvature---I press and feather (two things an artist should NEVER do)!\n\nA real cartoon should look as though it was drawn in seconds. Though this cartoon (to this point) has required less than half an hour (not accounting for scanning and writing these descriptions), it looks labored due to the lines produced by both my (unforgiving) pencil and my habit of feathering/going over lines.\nIdeally, one would use a brush to ink over one's pencil lines before erasing the penciling wholesale (with a kneaded eraser)---I never ink my art. :3\n\n5. Coloring\n\nJust to say (if it's not obvious enough), this is NOT the end---there's still more art to show. :3\n\nAnyhoo, because I don't ink my art, I run a high risk of smudging during the coloring process (as you can see). It is partly for this reason that I don't do 'complete' coloring---I tend to keep color away from the edges of my subjects, as well I avoid or tread lightly in narrow areas (such as spaces between toes, etc), unless the lines are thin enough (and the color's dark--bright colors are more inclined to smear).\n\n6. Story\n\nOh? I added something!\n\nFirst, the story, then the writing process.\n\nTITLE: The Omelet that Wasn't\n\nOne day, Ribbon, Ball and Timmy the Ghost tiptoed into the dragon cave, for to swipe an egg for breakfast.\nThe nest seemed unguarded upon entry, but as our trio neared its prize, the mother dragon appeared as suddenly as any ghost (even Timmy was taken aback)!\n\n\"Oh, my my my my my!\" said the mother dragon, having caught sight of Timmy but yet unaware of Ribbon and Ball.\n\"What brings you here?\", the dragon continued, tickling Timmy under his chin.\n\nRibbon stood by the nest, believing she was about to witness a horrible cuddle torture, whereas Ball (who is always on task), seized an egg.\nBall growled at Ribbon to do likewise while the flirtatious dragon was distracted (Timmy would be all right ...probably).\n\nAh, but just as Ball was about to run away, a dragon puppy burst forth from the egg Ball was carrying.\n\n\"Mama!\", squeaked the dragon puppy.\n\nBest return it to the nest, Ball---there is no chance of omelets today!\n\n~END\n\nHey, I didn't promise a good story. :P\n\nUnless I'm writing an article or otherwise need to express something pertinent, Timmy stories are generally cute and fluffy (they haven't much need of points or fetishes).\n\nThere are two general rules for Timmy stories; these are they:\n\n1. All right, so I wanna make a Timmy art (what else is new, right?) and since there seems to be some interest in my process, I'll go through it from blank page to finished product.

1. Tools of the Trade

First, I need to gather my materials together.

To the chagrin of several who responded to my last poll, I do prefer tablet paper for these scribbles. It's likely just a phase, but for now it's here to stay.

To size my characters, I use a circle template.

The pencil I use is a Kuru Toga 0.5 HB mechanical pencil; mine is the 'Pikachu Farm' edition, which I bought in 2015 for ACEO.

For erasing, I use cap erasers. I know some prefer putty erasers, but considering how tiny my scribbles are, I need sharp erasers like these.

For coloring, I use a variety of pencils. Although I hadn't room to show it here, I have a color chart that shows what each color looks like before I commit to it.

Last, sugar---sugar is good! :9

2. Planning the Sketch

Before I begin drawing, I need something TO draw. Ideas sometimes derive from watcher comments/notes or from a need to answer a question, clarify an answer, or to generally expand on Timmy's universe.
This cartoon is just silly; it doesn't hold any especial significances. :3

Sometimes, I need to make a mock or practice sketch in order to preempt any potential issues. In this case, it's not too clear what the characters are doing, so they will require some repositioning.

I generally don't write on my practice sketches, but I have here for to give a glimpse into my thoughts.

3. The Undersketch

As the viewer can see, I continue to fool around despite the earlier sketch.

I'm not too concerned with heroic proportions or anything like that---I go for 'close enough'. In fact, where Timmy's concerned, I draw freehanded---the only guide I use for Timmy is the sphere for his head and general length (Timmy is canonically three head-heights, though I vary this from time to time).

Hm. Seems we've something going on in the background---I wonder what is?

4. Hardlining and clean-up

Times to press hard on this paper, this terrible ruled paper! D: ...XDXD

All right, enough of that. :3

This step entails final detail adjustments, the darkening of lines we like and the erasure of lines we do not.
I do not endeavor to remove all traces of guidelines, etc.
For one, I cannot remove them all. ^^;
For two, I like the effect of guideline remnants (drawings should look like drawings).

So, yes, to answer one (almost-) question from a watcher: I do erase lines and I do make mistakes. ^^;
My art has all sorts of problems. In fact, one could use most any one of my cartoons to illustrate a dictionary of cartooner errors (...which I'd be fine with, presuming I collected some royalties).

Ideally, a cartooner would use better tools than mechanical pencils and toothless paper. Wooden pencils (of varying hardness) allow one to widen or constrict line art as necessary (by drawing on the side of the graphite) as well drawing with these (confidently) allows the lines to have better curvature---I press and feather (two things an artist should NEVER do)!

A real cartoon should look as though it was drawn in seconds. Though this cartoon (to this point) has required less than half an hour (not accounting for scanning and writing these descriptions), it looks labored due to the lines produced by both my (unforgiving) pencil and my habit of feathering/going over lines.
Ideally, one would use a brush to ink over one's pencil lines before erasing the penciling wholesale (with a kneaded eraser)---I never ink my art. :3

5. Coloring

Just to say (if it's not obvious enough), this is NOT the end---there's still more art to show. :3

Anyhoo, because I don't ink my art, I run a high risk of smudging during the coloring process (as you can see). It is partly for this reason that I don't do 'complete' coloring---I tend to keep color away from the edges of my subjects, as well I avoid or tread lightly in narrow areas (such as spaces between toes, etc), unless the lines are thin enough (and the color's dark--bright colors are more inclined to smear).

6. Story

Oh? I added something!

First, the story, then the writing process.

TITLE: The Omelet that Wasn't

One day, Ribbon, Ball and Timmy the Ghost tiptoed into the dragon cave, for to swipe an egg for breakfast.
The nest seemed unguarded upon entry, but as our trio neared its prize, the mother dragon appeared as suddenly as any ghost (even Timmy was taken aback)!

"Oh, my my my my my!" said the mother dragon, having caught sight of Timmy but yet unaware of Ribbon and Ball.
"What brings you here?", the dragon continued, tickling Timmy under his chin.

Ribbon stood by the nest, believing she was about to witness a horrible cuddle torture, whereas Ball (who is always on task), seized an egg.
Ball growled at Ribbon to do likewise while the flirtatious dragon was distracted (Timmy would be all right ...probably).

Ah, but just as Ball was about to run away, a dragon puppy burst forth from the egg Ball was carrying.

"Mama!", squeaked the dragon puppy.

Best return it to the nest, Ball---there is no chance of omelets today!
