This group is from Universal's adaptation of the 'Brer Rabbit' stories (most know Brer Rabbit from Disney's 'Song of the South').\n\nTo compare 'The Adventures of Brer Rabbit' (AoBR) with 'Song of the South' (SotS) is easy: the former is good, the latter isn't (so much).\n\nMore specifically, AoBR has the better writing insofar as the humor's concerned, whereas SotS had the better story but not the writing to support it (if that makes sense).\nPut another way, SotS balanced the rabbit stories and their relation to the human cast better than AoBR ...but the SotS story was, well, let's say Disney wants to put that movie behind them\n(it's controversial, and I get why, albeit I can say I've seen worse from films that aren't on any banlists).\n\nThe human cast of AoBR is, essentially, Janey: a little girl who is more bored than in need of a pep talk via Brer Turtle's animal stories (yeah, there are no indentured servants in AoBR---the story takes place in present-time)\n...and AoBR knows it's better to focus more on the animal stories, anyway (Janey is just an excuse to tell them).\nEven so, I feel AoBR would have been better HAD Janey played more of a role---perhaps to return home sometime around the halfway point, do her thing, and perhaps bring her brother (who is our 'antagonist' despite his having only a few lines) along for a few lessons from Brer Turtle.\nDoing so would give some depth (and greater purpose) to the human cast ...but that's not what we got! XD\nAnyway, the writing is a bit repetitive (in the first couple tales), but gets better as it goes.
