I had been feeling rather stressed and overworked of late. The patrons, while I'm grateful for their business, have been a little overbearing of late. So overbearing in fact, that I had taken some downtime for a change. Ting was very supportive. The panda had offered to carry on for me for a day or so while I recover. It's quite interesting that the day I had chosen to do so that I met the most extraordinary man.
Quite the destinguished gentleman at that. Went by the name of a Captain William Stansbury. I couldn't pinpoint his age, but the lion carried himself with quite a grace and refinement.. something anyone could appreciate. It seems that he had drifted into port on his ship for just the evening and thought he'd take in a pint. While the Tail isn't unique in being one of the many little dives that one could stroll into, it was rather fortunate that the Captain chose mine.
My shift was long over and with Ting keeping things under control, I was free to do as I pleased. Funny that it turned up entertaining the company of Sir Stansbury at that moment. It was hard not to in fact as the Captain had so many interesting stories to tell about his voyages at sea and the many encounters he had. He spoke with a demeanor that demanded respect and awe, and yet there seemed to be a underlying loneliness in his tone. Fascinating stories, mixed with great drink made for a great evening and before I knew it, I was accompanying the good captain back to his ship before he set sail. I honestly couldn't resist as it had been some time since I last set foot on a seafaring vessel and the Captain had done a great job of describing how beautiful it was. I can say this much... he didn't disappoint.
He showed me around quite a lot of the ship in fact, even as we joked about, reminiscing about good times. It was strange that such a large galleon seemed to have no sign of any other crew, despite Stansbury insisting that the rest of the crew were merely out on shore leave and would return later. Shrugging it off, thoughts turned to more amorous pursuits and whether or not it was just the great company or the effects of the alcohol, it mattered not as we both ended up shedding a few garments in the captain's cabin, and getting to know one another much closer.
What happened afterward was a little vague as I'm not even sure how I recall getting back safe and sound in my bed that morning.. Still, I had a wonderful night. I haven't had a good rest like that in ages.
