He glances towards the barn door to see a fully-clothed BOY, around the age of eight or nine, smiling back at him. When the BOY notices him watching, he runs away mischievously. The Man croaks for the boy to stop but coughs hoarsely instead. The world is spinning, like the worst hangover he ever had. He notices for the first time that he has bruises all over his body. And a strange metal collar around his neck. Wincing, the man puts a palm to his face and stumbles after the boy.\n\nHe steps out of the barn directly into a green pasture. In fact everything is green here. And it isn't just a pasture, it's a pasture near the summit of a mountain. The man rubs his eyes and realizes he's on top of a mountain, in the middle of a mountain range. The view is absolutely breathtaking. Green rolling hills, with flocks of sheep grazing across their sides. Below, a sparkling river snakes through the valley. It must be somewhere in Europe, Switzerland maybe. And absolutely no sign of civilization.\n\n[t]Family Breakfast[/t]\nDumbstruck, the MAN turns around to find a cluster of buildings behind him. What looks like a home on a ranch. He sees the BOY waiting at the door to the house. The BOY steps in when the man notices him. The MAN wobbles after, still completely naked, croaking for the boy to stop. The MAN enters the house to find the BOY and his family sitting at a table having breakfast. The boy is joined by his FATHER, MOTHER, and slightly older SISTER. None of them seem particularly concerned about the naked MAN who just entered their home. The mother greets the MAN politely, offering him some cereal. The man just stares back at her like she's insane.\n\nThe boy is still smiling, in fact the whole family seems rather glad to have him there. The MAN sputters about not knowing where he is and needing a phone but the FATHER holds up a hand. The FATHER merely shoves a bowl of cereal his way (apparently there was a seat waiting for him) and the MAN gives in and takes a seat, eating it greedily. The MOTHER pours him a glass of milk and he downs that as well, he's famished, like he hasn't ate or drank in days.\n\nThe FATHER waits politely for the MAN to finish eating. He then explains what is going on, in a mild-mannered and civil tone, like he is talking about the weather.\n\nTo summarize:\n* The MAN is no longer a man, he is now the family's PET.\n* There have always been \"pets\" in the family, but this family prefers anthro pets.\n* The FATHER bought the MAN from anthro traffickers at a fair value, the MAN now belongs to the BOY, the FATHER's SON.\n* If the MAN obeys, he will be treated well and with dignity.\n* If the MAN disobeys, he will be punished.\n* There is no escape.\n\nIt is implied in this conversation that the MAN has a rather seedy past, but not elaborated on yet. The FATHER explains that the MAN now has a chance to start over, a better life. It is implied that if the MAN was not sold into slavery he would merely be serving a life sentence anyway. Nobody will miss him now that he's gone. And he has nowhere to escape to, even if he could.\n\n[t]First Escape Attempt[/t]\nBut the MAN isn't having it. He knows he can be dangerous, and he isn't afraid of these people. When they refuse to allow him to leave, he simply says that he will go off on his own. But the FATHER sighs and explains it is always like this at the beginning. He walks his son through using a remote control to shock the man into submission, like a taser through the necklace. The FATHER caution the SON to be gentle about it, only enough to show the PET he is not in control. The DAUGHTER wants to try too, but she is overzealous and shocks the MAN into passing out.\n\nThe man wakes up on the floor. Someone put a pillow underneath him. It was the SON, who has been watching him sleep. The SON tells the man not to escape again, he doesn't want to see his PET hurt. The MAN is hurt however, hurt and afraid. Terrified really, even if the SON seems like a nice boy. The SON explains that he picked his PET out personally, literally he was given a catalog of images and facts and picked the MAN out himself. But the MAN tries to explain that you can't own other people. The boy shakes his head and explains that the MAN will see things their way eventually, all pets eventually do…\n\n[t]Attitude Adjustment[/t]\nWe follow the MAN for the next few weeks as he adjusts to his new life. He is given a tour of the grounds. There is quite a bit here, these people obviously have money. Including RVs, a library, study, and very nice bedrooms. There is dirt road behind the house. Although as the FATHER explains, the collar has a GPS unit and will administer shocks if the PET wanders too far. The FATHER cautions the MAN not to spend too much time near the road, it might give him ideas…\n\nAs a PET, the MAN is completely subservient to the boy. He is not allowed to wear clothing. Pets don't wear clothing. He doesn't have a bed, he sleeps on the floor in the SON's room. There are a few acts of defiance at the beginning, such as when the SON wants to play fetch and the MAN refuses. The SON shocks his PET into submission. But the man must admit he quite likes the SON, and the MOTHER AND FATHER too. The SON gives him lots of attention, fusses over him, takes him for daily walks, gives him baths. Things the MAN could do himself, but enjoys the company. And when he is not attending to his master, the MAN is allowed to roam around, he likes to read in the library.\n\nIt is the DAUGHTER however, that scares him. She's around 12-14, and increasingly cruel. Although the rest of the family encourages her to treat their PET with respect, and the FATHER hopes she will grown into it, it is clear to the MAN that she is a sociopath. The MAN finds himself trying to avoid situations where he is alone with her.\n\nStill, the family was right, he finds himself looking forward to his day. It's sort of like being a kid again, there's no need to work or try to avoid law enforcement. They were right, he is being treated well. He's not forced to do heavy labor, just things like washing the dishes, tidying up the house. It's not even like he's ordered to, sometimes he does it on his own, just to give himself something to do when he isn't attending to the SON.\n\nMost of his needs are taken care of, and all he has to offer in return is companionship. One day, in the library, the MAN finds some diaries of one of the older pets. And is surprised to find that the older PET looked up the FATHER, who was a boy at the time, favorably. The older PET seem to be happy, despite being forced into bondage. And at one point, when the FATHER invites the MAN to his study for a nightcap, the MAN admits that he's never really had a family before. In a way, this is sort of like the family he never had.\n\n[t]Pet Grave[/t]\nAt one point the SON asks his PET to take a walk with him. The MAN obliges, used to just following the SON naked down the path, despite it being rather chilly, he has grown used to the cold. The SON doesn't even need to leash his PET anymore, the MAN knows better than to stray. The SON takes him to a new place, past a small creek, where the SON sits down next to a pile of rocks. The MAN follows suit. The SON seems to have grown quiet and somber and the MAN realizes this is the grave of the family's last \"pet\". It is clear to the MAN that the boy really liked the pet, and misses it. And the MAN hugs the SON in a tender moment, and when the SON makes the PET promise to never leave, the MAN agrees. But, days later, the MAN can't get something out of his head, something the SON said about their last pet. A passing comment, but the SON used a different name… A nickname maybe? He can't stop thinking about it.\n\nAnd so, the MAN does something he thought he would never do. He breaks into the FATHER's room one night and searches through his things. He discovers a book of the family genealogy, alongside all the \"pets\". He realizes that the records he found in the library, the pictures of \"pets\" on the walls, they are all missing examples. There have been a succession of \"pets\" in the last few years. One after another. All of them are dead.\n\nLooking into the cause of death, the MAN realizes that the cause of death has been neglect. The daughter, she is the one to blame. She had pets of her own but abused them to death, and when her younger brother got them, she did the same. The family has been covering for her. And the MAN realizes that since she has been becoming progressively more abusive to him, he is likely next. He realizes he can't stay there any longer.\n\n[t]Further Escape Attempts[/t]\nThe MAN makes up his mind and realizes he needs to escape. He'd rather be free, even if it means just going to prison for his previous crimes. One day, he says goodbye to the SON in a sort of cryptic way, and makes his escape. The MAN believes he has successfully disabled his collar. But as he makes his way down to the main road, seeing some passing cars, he turns a corner and gets whacked in the face by the FATHER. He wakes up back to the house, bound. The family is very, very disappointed in him, even the SON accusingly says the PET promised never to leave. It is partially the SON's fault that the MAN was able to get away, so they decide that the SON isn't old enough to have a pet. The MAN is going to be transferred to the DAUGHTER.\n\nThe DAUGHTER punishes him by mutilating him in front of the family with a knife. Maybe she castrates him or something. Nobody from the family steps in to stop her, even though the SON is upset. The MAN is quiet in the days after that. His spirit seems broken. The DAUGHTER has dominion over him now. He is afraid and she enjoys his fear. Although she tells him that she can't just \"play with him\" as \"rough\" as her others, her family would be unhappy with that. As the oldest child it was she who was supposed to have a pet, the family only gave the SON one because she kept breaking hers. But now they trust her again. She is sadistic.\n\nThe man begins to plot his next escape attempt again in secret. He gathers supplies, hiding them. He becomes increasingly desperate. Until one day, during the routine psychological torture from the daughter, the MAN snaps. And strikes her. She looks at him in disbelief, and fumbles with her switch to shock him. But he gets to her too quickly, and strangles her. He watches her face as he chokes the life out of her. Watches her expressions, as she turns from the monster that as terrorized him to a scared young teenage girl. He strangles her until her eyes glaze over and the sounds coming from her throat stop. Then he strangles her some more.\n\nNow the MAN is in a tight position, he wasn't thinking. He's out with the daughter away from the house, but now she's dead. He can't come back without her. And so, the MAN makes a difficult decision, he grabs some impromptu weapons from the tool shed. Then he begins to systematically murder every member of the family, watching and waiting for them to separate before attacking them.\n\nIt's horrible for him, these are people he trusted. He kills the MOTHER first, who seems some gashes on him (the DAUGHTER scratched him when she was getting choked) and immediately move to do first aid. She asks what happened, where is her DAUGHTER, is the PET okay? And he bludgeons her to death, covering her mouth so she can't scream.\n\nHe finds the FATHER in the study. The FATHER sees the blood on him, knows exactly what is happening. But seems to be calm. They have a pretty civil conversation where the MAN explains his point of view. He needs to be free, even if freedom is worse than his current life. The FATHER note that as soon as the MAN escape he will just be sent straight to prison for his crimes, how is that freedom? The MAN says that it's freedom because it's a choice he made for himself. They both look at the remote that can shock the MAN to death, it's sitting on another table in the room, out of arm reach of both of them.\n\nThe FATHER and the MAN exchange some more calm dialogue with each other. They see each other's sides. And it's clear they both like and respect one another. The FATHER explains he really felt like he was doing the right thing. The MAN knows. Sadly, the FATHER says there is just one thing left to do, isn't there?\n\nThey both lunge for the remote. They end up tackling each other to the ground and the FATHER grabs a knife he was using for his snack and stabs the MAN repeatedly in the abdomen. For a moment it looks like the FATHER is going to win, he gets on top of the man. But the MAN grabs a snow globe off the table and hits the FATHER on the head. He grabs the knife and stabs the FATHER in the neck several times. The MAN stands over the dead man, looking at him, his face stone.\n\nCovered in MOTHER and FATHER's blood and his own wounds, the MAN stumbles out to look for the SON. The SON is not in his room, the MAN keeps looking, calling to him, his voice hoarse again. He circles back around until he hears whimpering coming from one of the rooms. The SON is crying over his mother's body. He looks up at the MAN, sees the blood, and knows that the MAN killed his FATHER.\n\nThe SON is terrified. He screams that he loved the PET, that he thought the PET loved him too. The SON looks down, shaking, over his mother's corpse. He waits for the MAN to kill him. But the MAN merely takes the last remaining remote and walks out of the room as the boy continues to sob. The MAN grabs the keys for the ATV, and a fresh pair of the FATHER's clothing. Wearing clothes for the first time in months. He rides off down the dirt trail.\n\n[t]Conclusion[/t]\nOur last scene shows the MAN in prison. Having returned to civilization, the MAN was quickly identified and arrested, given a life sentence for his previous crimes. He is roaming around the prison grounds, strolling, like he always did at the house. Every time he turns a corner he catches glimpses of his previous life.\n\nHe passes by the hall, and for a split-second he sees the beautiful fields of the mountain range. But it's just the mess hall.\n\nHe walks past a door and for a split-second he's staring at the sparkling river he used to visit with the SON. But it's just the courtyard.\n\nHe turns to his cell. For a moment he's staring at his family all having dinner, the FATHER, MOTHER, DAUGHTER, and SON, all smiling and waiting for them to join him. But it's just his empty cell.\n\nHe steps inside his cell and sits down on the uncomfortable cot, staring at the vacant wall on the other side of the room. He just sits there in silence, as if contemplating everything. * The FATHER bought the MAN from anthro traffickers at a fair value, the MAN now belongs to the BOY, the FATHER's SON.
* If the MAN obeys, he will be treated well and with dignity.
* If the MAN disobeys, he will be punished.
* There is no escape.

It is implied in this conversation that the MAN has a rather seedy past, but not elaborated on yet. The FATHER explains that the MAN now has a chance to start over, a better life. It is implied that if the MAN was not sold into slavery he would merely be serving a life sentence anyway. Nobody will miss him now that he's gone. And he has nowhere to escape to, even if he could.

First Escape Attempt
But the MAN isn't having it. He knows he can be dangerous, and he isn't afraid of these people. When they refuse to allow him to leave, he simply says that he will go off on his own. But the FATHER sighs and explains it is always like this at the beginning. He walks his son through using a remote control to shock the man into submission, like a taser through the necklace. The FATHER caution the SON to be gentle about it, only enough to show the PET he is not in control. The DAUGHTER wants to try too, but she is overzealous and shocks the MAN into passing out.

The man wakes up on the floor. Someone put a pillow underneath him. It was the SON, who has been watching him sleep. The SON tells the man not to escape again, he doesn't want to see his PET hurt. The MAN is hurt however, hurt and afraid. Terrified really, even if the SON seems like a nice boy. The SON explains that he picked his PET out personally, literally he was given a catalog of images and facts and picked the MAN out himself. But the MAN tries to explain that you can't own other people. The boy shakes his head and explains that the MAN will see things their way eventually, all pets eventually do…

Attitude Adjustment
We follow the MAN for the next few weeks as he adjusts to his new life. He is given a tour of the grounds. There is quite a bit here, these people obviously have money. Including RVs, a library, study, and very nice bedrooms. There is dirt road behind the house. Although as the FATHER explains, the collar has a GPS unit and will administer shocks if the PET wanders too far. The FATHER cautions the MAN not to spend too much time near the road, it might give him ideas…

As a PET, the MAN is completely subservient to the boy. He is not allowed to wear clothing. Pets don't wear clothing. He doesn't have a bed, he sleeps on the floor in the SON's room. There are a few acts of defiance at the beginning, such as when the SON wants to play fetch and the MAN refuses. The SON shocks his PET into submission. But the man must admit he quite likes the SON, and the MOTHER AND FATHER too. The SON gives him lots of attention, fusses over him, takes him for daily walks, gives him baths. Things the MAN could do himself, but enjoys the company. And when he is not attending to his master, the MAN is allowed to roam around, he likes to read in the library.

It is the DAUGHTER however, that scares him. She's around 12-14, and increasingly cruel. Although the rest of the family encourages her to treat their PET with respect, and the FATHER hopes she will grown into it, it is clear to the MAN that she is a sociopath. The MAN finds himself trying to avoid situations where he is alone with her.

Still, the family was right, he finds himself looking forward to his day. It's sort of like being a kid again, there's no need to work or try to avoid law enforcement. They were right, he is being treated well. He's not forced to do heavy labor, just things like washing the dishes, tidying up the house. It's not even like he's ordered to, sometimes he does it on his own, just to give himself something to do when he isn't attending to the SON.

Most of his needs are taken care of, and all he has to offer in return is companionship. One day, in the library, the MAN finds some diaries of one of the older pets. And is surprised to find that the older PET looked up the FATHER, who was a boy at the time, favorably. The older PET seem to be happy, despite being forced into bondage. And at one point, when the FATHER invites the MAN to his study for a nightcap, the MAN admits that he's never really had a family before. In a way, this is sort of like the family he never had.

Pet Grave
At one point the SON asks his PET to take a walk with him. The MAN obliges, used to just following the SON naked down the path, despite it being rather chilly, he has grown used to the cold. The SON doesn't even need to leash his PET anymore, the MAN knows better than to stray. The SON takes him to a new place, past a small creek, where the SON sits down next to a pile of rocks. The MAN follows suit. The SON seems to have grown quiet and somber and the MAN realizes this is the grave of the family's last "pet". It is clear to the MAN that the boy really liked the pet, and misses it. And the MAN hugs the SON in a tender moment, and when the SON makes the PET promise to never leave, the MAN agrees. But, days later, the MAN can't get something out of his head, something the SON said about their last pet. A passing comment, but the SON used a different name… A nickname maybe? He can't stop thinking about it.

And so, the MAN does something he thought he would never do. He breaks into the FATHER's room one night and searches through his things. He discovers a book of the family genealogy, alongside all the "pets". He realizes that the records he found in the library, the pictures of "pets" on the walls, they are all missing examples. There have been a succession of "pets" in the last few years. One after another. All of them are dead.

Looking into the cause of death, the MAN realizes that the cause of death has been neglect. The daughter, she is the one to blame. She had pets of her own but abused them to death, and when her younger brother got them, she did the same. The family has been covering for her. And the MAN realizes that since she has been becoming progressively more abusive to him, he is likely next. He realizes he can't stay there any longer.

Further Escape Attempts
The MAN makes up his mind and realizes he needs to escape. He'd rather be free, even if it means just going to prison for his previous crimes. One day, he says goodbye to the SON in a sort of cryptic way, and makes his escape. The MAN believes he has successfully disabled his collar. But as he makes his way down to the main road, seeing some passing cars, he turns a corner and gets whacked in the face by the FATHER. He wakes up back to the house, bound. The family is very, very disappointed in him, even the SON accusingly says the PET promised never to leave. It is partially the SON's fault that the MAN was able to get away, so they decide that the SON isn't old enough to have a pet. The MAN is going to be transferred to the DAUGHTER.

The DAUGHTER punishes him by mutilating him in front of the family with a knife. Maybe she castrates him or something. Nobody from the family steps in to stop her, even though the SON is upset. The MAN is quiet in the days after that. His spirit seems broken. The DAUGHTER has dominion over him now. He is afraid and she enjoys his fear. Although she tells him that she can't just "play with him" as "rough" as her others, her family would be unhappy with that. As the oldest child it was she who was supposed to have a pet, the family only gave the SON one because she kept breaking hers. But now they trust her again. She is sadistic.

The man begins to plot his next escape attempt again in secret. He gathers supplies, hiding them. He becomes increasingly desperate. Until one day, during the routine psychological torture from the daughter, the MAN snaps. And strikes her. She looks at him in disbelief, and fumbles with her switch to shock him. But he gets to her too quickly, and strangles her. He watches her face as he chokes the life out of her. Watches her expressions, as she turns from the monster that as terrorized him to a scared young teenage girl. He strangles her until her eyes glaze over and the sounds coming from her throat stop. Then he strangles her some more.

Now the MAN is in a tight position, he wasn't thinking. He's out with the daughter away from the house, but now she's dead. He can't come back without her. And so, the MAN makes a difficult decision, he grabs some impromptu weapons from the tool shed. Then he begins to systematically murder every member of the family, watching and waiting for them to separate before attacking them.

It's horrible for him, these are people he trusted. He kills the MOTHER first, who seems some gashes on him (the DAUGHTER scratched him when she was getting choked) and immediately move to do first aid. She asks what happened, where is her DAUGHTER, is the PET okay? And he bludgeons her to death, covering her mouth so she can't scream.

He finds the FATHER in the study. The FATHER sees the blood on him, knows exactly what is happening. But seems to be calm. They have a pretty civil conversation where the MAN explains his point of view. He needs to be free, even if freedom is worse than his current life. The FATHER note that as soon as the MAN escape he will just be sent straight to prison for his crimes, how is that freedom? The MAN says that it's freedom because it's a choice he made for himself. They both look at the remote that can shock the MAN to death, it's sitting on another table in the room, out of arm reach of both of them.

The FATHER and the MAN exchange some more calm dialogue with each other. They see each other's sides. And it's clear they both like and respect one another. The FATHER explains he really felt like he was doing the right thing. The MAN knows. Sadly, the FATHER says there is just one thing left to do, isn't there?

They both lunge for the remote. They end up tackling each other to the ground and the FATHER grabs a knife he was using for his snack and stabs the MAN repeatedly in the abdomen. For a moment it looks like the FATHER is going to win, he gets on top of the man. But the MAN grabs a snow globe off the table and hits the FATHER on the head. He grabs the knife and stabs the FATHER in the neck several times. The MAN stands over the dead man, looking at him, his face stone.

Covered in MOTHER and FATHER's blood and his own wounds, the MAN stumbles out to look for the SON. The SON is not in his room, the MAN keeps looking, calling to him, his voice hoarse again. He circles back around until he hears whimpering coming from one of the rooms. The SON is crying over his mother's body. He looks up at the MAN, sees the blood, and knows that the MAN killed his FATHER.

The SON is terrified. He screams that he loved the PET, that he thought the PET loved him too. The SON looks down, shaking, over his mother's corpse. He waits for the MAN to kill him. But the MAN merely takes the last remaining remote and walks out of the room as the boy continues to sob. The MAN grabs the keys for the ATV, and a fresh pair of the FATHER's clothing. Wearing clothes for the first time in months. He rides off down the dirt trail.

Conclusion
Our last scene shows the MAN in prison. Having returned to civilization, the MAN was quickly identified and arrested, given a life sentence for his previous crimes. He is roaming around the prison grounds, strolling, like he always did at the house. Every time he turns a corner he catches glimpses of his previous life.

He passes by the hall, and for a split-second he sees the beautiful fields of the mountain range. But it's just the mess hall.

He walks past a door and for a split-second he's staring at the sparkling river he used to visit with the SON. But it's just the courtyard.

He turns to his cell. For a moment he's staring at his family all having dinner, the FATHER, MOTHER, DAUGHTER, and SON, all smiling and waiting for them to join him. But it's just his empty cell.

He steps inside his cell and sits down on the uncomfortable cot, staring at the vacant wall on the other side of the room. He just sits there in silence, as if contemplating everything. Then he starts to grin.

I know this story is sort of out of the blue, but I'd appreciate hearing what you think works or doesn't work about it.
