"description": "Species Name: Mimic\n\nOrigins: Unknown. Possibly extraterrestrial, though why or how they got here is a mystery.\n\nLifespan: Once fully bonded, mimics die when their host dies, and vice versa. An un-bonded mimic will not survive long, as they require hosts to feed them and help them grow to maturity, otherwise they simply starve to death after hatching within several weeks regardless if they find an animal to transform into or not.\n\nTrue Appearance: Adults can reach 20-30 feet in length. All mimics are hairless and scaleless, possessing instead stretchy or rubbery skin, and sometimes rubbery quills which act a bit like fur or a mane. There are two variations in head shape, Variant 1 being almost catlike while Variant 2 is much more draconic. They can have 4-8 limbs. They can have 2-8 eyes, but this number isn’t always even (for instance, Blaze’s true from has 3 eyes with a sideways third eye configuration on its forehead). Their flesh, eyes, fluids (sans saliva), and mucous membranes are all black.\n\nIntelligence: Sapient.\n\n-Reproduction and Socialization-\n\nAll mimics are hermaphroditic in the same exact way. They have a prehensile, tentacle-like penis hidden within a slit, while their female parts are much harder to find, hidden within the chest and neck where the mouth is the only exit for the young.\n\nThey go through a short but rigorous heat cycle which can last weeks if necessary, but never over a month (as the stress of it all would likely kill the host and by extension the mimic itself). The heat effects the host as much as the mimic, the latter of which craves and needs sexual contact of any sort from any living creature, which will kick off the fertilization of its egg. Strangely, the mimic never seeks this sexual contact with its host. Perhaps due to the fact that, by that time, the two are so bonded that they are essentially the same being and thus the mimic wouldn’t be satisfied.\n\nOnce fertilized, a single egg will grow within a crop-like pouch within the creature’s neck. The gestation period lasts 7 to 11 months and during that time the creature loses all appetite and becomes lethargic. When the time comes, the egg is regurgitated.\n\nThe egg is then completely disregarded by the parent creature. \n\nOften the creature’s host will take the egg elsewhere so that it may hatch far away from their territory. Therefore, it requires no care or warmth. The eggs are as big around as a dinner plate at their widest point, and are tar black with an oily iridescent sheen. The shell is incredibly tough and virtually unbreakable right up until it’s ready to hatch; at which time the shell will harden and become brittle. Hatching takes place 1-3 weeks after the egg has been laid.\n\nPerhaps due to there being no need for two mimics to ever meet (as they are self-fertilizing), they are far more territorial than any other creature in the known world. They will quite literally kill each other if twins are born out one egg, the instinct to be solitary is so deeply ingrained in their minds. \n\nAdults have a bit more self control and will at least try to keep distance between themselves and others of their own species, but even with clearly marked and spacious territories their relationships would be strained at best.\n\n-to be revised below-\n\nGrowth: Once hatched, the newborn mimic resembles an oversized black salamander with 2 eyes and 4 limbs. It will not survive long in this form, so it must move quickly to find a native animal.\n\nOnce it encounters one, dead or alive, it will use its sharp beak and lamprey-like teeth to burrow into the animal’s body. While it consumes the animal from the inside out, its entire body will begin the metamorphosis process into a perfect copy of the consumed animal, the only imperfection being its coal-black hide.\n\nIt will then use this new form to get close to the creatures of highest intelligence wherever they are. In our dimension, that would be humans, but in Hector’s, that would be anthros. \n\nMimics will use observations of their quarry before making their move, carefully choosing what form would be best after seeing which animals their desired hosts often have as companions. The infant mimic will then do its best to be welcomed into someone’s home as their new pet.\n\nEven before being welcomed completely, a bond between the creature and its wanted host begins to form and the creature will lose its ability to transform into anything other than their current chosen animal. As the bond strengthens, the host will begin experiencing strange thoughts and dreams. Within the course of a couple months these thoughts will have advanced into impulses and the dreams will be constant. \n\nThe host and mimic will eventually become, essentially, of the same mind and by extension, body, even sharing pain and wounds, not just thoughts. The mimic will gain a complete understanding of its host, their desires, and their relationships, and will work with the host while at the same time demanding to be fed and have its own desires met. At times this relationship can become strained, but once they’ve reached the final stages and the mimic starts to show its true form, they will be stuck with each other for the rest of their lives no matter what.\n\nOnce the bonding process has been completed the mimic will begin to grow and drop its disguise. It will advance into its Juvenile stage. Once this stage begins, there is no reversing it.\n\nFirst its extra eye(s) will open. Then its body will begin to change, lengthening and losing fur in patches. It will look truly grotesque as it grows into its real body, but by then its host will be unfazed by the changes they are witnessing. Its extra limbs appear eventually all at once, coming in stick-like and willowy as the rest.\n\nDuring this time the mimic’s true powers will begin to show themselves and as a result its host will gain similar abilities. The mimic will become ravenous as it grows, demanding to be fed living creatures. As it is small, it will first drive its host to bring it animals the host’s species would typically consider ‘pets’, often demanding the animals be brutally killed first. \n\nThis is merely a prelude to what’s to come.\n\nWith the host’s help over the course of months, the mimic will eventually grow into its Adult stage.\n\nThis stage begins when the creature has lost all semblance of its mimicked animal and its powers have reached their peak. Typically at this time the creature will have grown to a solid 20 feet in length from nose to tail tip. Eventually, it will add an extra 10 feet to that length.\n\nGone will be the days of demanding to be fed animals. Now, it will only demand the blood of its host’s own species. Nothing else will do. Its host will not only comply to these demands, they will be so far gone that they will do so willingly. They will be compelled, driven to do it, their minds broken in such a way that they know what they’re doing is wrong, but they simply cannot care or stop. Eventually, the killing will become an addiction; the only relief they have.\n\nAs the creature’s strength grows it will no longer need to rely solely on insidious mind games, it will be able to seize complete control of its hosts mind for a short time as well.\n\nPossession, as it is called, is not kind on the host. The host will be unable to immediately recall what they did whilst possessed, but can try to piece the memories together; much like a bad dream.\n\nIf the host is possessed too often or for an extended period of time (such as 12 hours or more) they will begin exhibiting signs of stress and sickness:\n\nFlu-like symptoms - exhaustion, hypersensitivity, body aches, prolonged fatigue, sometimes coughing and issues with bleeding.\n\nDepression - their eyes may appear dull, their expression flat and emotions muted if not entirely nonexistent.\n\nSeizures - ranging from petit mal to grand mal in severity.\n\nAlways the host needs time to recover after being possessed. This can take anywhere from a day to a full week, depending. If they do not get adequate rest they may begin having fits, hurting themselves, and will eventually fall into a coma. Once this happens, the mimic, too, will be effected, so it’s rare the creature would ever allow such a thing to happen.\n\nPowers\n\nPerhaps the most frightening thing about these monstrosities is their innate reality-bending abilities, likely hailing from they themselves coming in from a different dimension, but that is speculation.\n\nMimics, when fully mature, have the ability to manipulate the fabric of the dimensions they reside in, and even poke holes through them. They can use this to teleport great distances in a mere moment and to hide within shadows so as to go unnoticed by other people while still staying close to their host.\n\nShadow, in particular, has perfected reality-bending to the extent that it has taken one of the many empty pocket dimensions tucked against our own and turned it into its very own private hunting ground. Wielding said pocket dimension like a net, it can trap up to 8 people at once. Every use leaves something of a replica of the ‘real’ world behind inside, such as whole locations and illusions of sky and weather. "description_bbcode_parsed": "Species Name: Mimic

Origins: Unknown. Possibly extraterrestrial, though why or how they got here is a mystery.

Lifespan: Once fully bonded, mimics die when their host dies, and vice versa. An un-bonded mimic will not survive long, as they require hosts to feed them and help them grow to maturity, otherwise they simply starve to death after hatching within several weeks regardless if they find an animal to transform into or not.

True Appearance: Adults can reach 20-30 feet in length. Their flesh, eyes, fluids (sans saliva), and mucous membranes are all black.

Intelligence: Sapient.

-Reproduction and Socialization-

All mimics are hermaphroditic in the same exact way. They have a prehensile, tentacle-like penis hidden within a slit, while their female parts are much harder to find, hidden within the chest and neck where the mouth is the only exit for the young.

They go through a short but rigorous heat cycle which can last weeks if necessary, but never over a month (as the stress of it all would likely kill the host and by extension the mimic itself). The heat effects the host as much as the mimic, the latter of which craves and needs sexual contact of any sort from any living creature, which will kick off the fertilization of its egg. Strangely, the mimic never seeks this sexual contact with its host. Perhaps due to the fact that, by that time, the two are so bonded that they are essentially the same being and thus the mimic wouldn’t be satisfied.

Once fertilized, a single egg will grow within a crop-like pouch within the creature’s neck. The gestation period lasts 7 to 11 months and during that time the creature loses all appetite and becomes lethargic. When the time comes, the egg is regurgitated.

The egg is then completely disregarded by the parent creature.

Often the creature’s host will take the egg elsewhere so that it may hatch far away from their territory. Hatching takes place 1-3 weeks after the egg has been laid.

Perhaps due to there being no need for two mimics to ever meet (as they are self-fertilizing), they are far more territorial than any other creature in the known world. They will quite literally kill each other if twins are born out one egg, the instinct to be solitary is so deeply ingrained in their minds.

Adults have a bit more self control and will at least try to keep distance between themselves and others of their own species, but even with clearly marked and spacious territories their relationships would be strained at best.

-to be revised below-

Growth: Once hatched, the newborn mimic resembles an oversized black salamander with 2 eyes and 4 limbs.
