"description": "(Keep in mind that any of this information can be changed at any time.)\n\nWhat We Know of Zyrses XIII\n\nDescription:\n\nFrom a distance Zyrses XIII appears to glow an eerie blue. The composition of its atmosphere is thick and reflects the color of its parent star, but beneath that the darker colors show in the form of black and red deserts, deep reddish oceans, and blue-violet forests. The planet is mostly composed of water, but despite this it still has relatively the same amount of dry land as Earth due to its greater size. It is roughly 3x the size of Earth, but harbors less gravity due to its lower density and revolution speed. It orbits a supergiant blue star at a great distance, along with five other known planets, none of which harbor life beyond primitive specimens. It has two moons, one of which is large enough to light up the night during certain hours. These two moons are in constant disarray, having a similar chaotic effect upon the planet’s oceans, making them an even more treacherous place, as if the local fauna wasn’t already bad enough.\n\nFlora and Fauna: \n\nThe creatures which reside here are highly resistant to radiation, an adaptation likely gifted from the unruly nature of their parent star. Almost all possess great resilience in general, and it seems as though the only thing that could kill most land dwelling animals is extreme cold. Due to the uncertainty of clean air or any air at all, almost all species breathe through gill-like structures in their skin, taking what they need on land or sea while filtering out anything which could damage their lungs.\n\nAuxiliary lung-like structures exist in many species beside the first set. These are typically small and used for vocalizations when inflated with air, or weaponized if inflated with fluid. Some species use these structures to breathe fire or drench their foes in scalding chemicals.\n\nPsychic powers are a common theme on this planet for all forms of life. They are either powerfully capable, or powerfully resistant. If a creature is resistant, they also tend to be adapted to prey upon something which is capable. Flora is almost always capable, making forests treacherous to anything that cannot communicate that it isn’t a threat.\n\nClimate:\n\nWhat isn’t ocean is great, sweeping deserts. The area between consists of plains and two major forests which take up the greater part of two continents and several islands each.\n\nThe planet orbits a blue supergiant star at a great distance, but even so the heat from it keeps the planet sweltering. The radiation and solar wind are so consistent that the planet is treated to a near constant array of auroras, decorating the night sky almost as often as the stars themselves.\n\nTime:\n\n1 year is equal to 8 earth years.\n1 day and night cycle is 17 hours long.\n\nSeasons/climate: 2, spring and summer, or drought and rainy. Everywhere except the deserts and forests are affected. For those it is constant drought and constant rain respectively.\n\n\n\nSapient Species: 1\n\nName: Kymera (ky-meer-uh)\n\nGeneral Appearance:\n\nThese creatures are lanky and lean humanoids with large eyes and ears. They have long, powerful tails and wide, muscular hips and thighs. In contrast with their sinuous, narrow torsos and lean shoulders they appear quite bottom-heavy, but this doesn’t seem to hinder them much. They possess the same sort of athleticism seen in cats on Earth. Their feet are digitigrade, long and narrow all the way up to the heel, ensuring they can jump to great heights and fall without taking damage, as well as reach impressive speeds whilst running. They have four toes each which are webbed, but clawed and underlined by paw pads. They have dexterous hands with three fingers and a thumb. \n\nThey possess smooth, velvety skin all over their bodies. In coloration they are relatively dull; exhibiting such varieties as shades of gray, the occasional reddish tint, and rarely some prominent blue. All have markings such as stripes down the spine, and facial striping or natural excessive eyeliner. A particular variety always emerge with dorsal stripes. \n\nUpon their foreheads they have two narrow, horn-like projections. These are actually sheathed antennae, which when exposed are capable of picking up on everything from smell to magnetic fields. They do not have nostrils upon their snouts for they do not require them. Their throats are nothing but passages to their digestive systems, for breathing instead is done through four gill-like slits spaced evenly between their ribs on either side of the body. These take in air from land or sea, able to switch between the two within seconds if needed.\n\nSexual Dimorphism:\n\nWhile the males on average stand at about 8 feet tall, the females dwarf them at a gigantic 12 feet tall. They also live a bit differently. Females are more independent in general and spend most of their time patrolling the vast oceans, hunting for their clans and themselves. \n\nAs they are larger than their male counterparts, they fare better against the monsters lurking within the deep and are generally left alone by most predators. Only some females choose to stay within the limits of cities, and are in general regarded with great respect from the males. \n\nIt’s the females who choose when to mate, as they go into heat at regular intervals and even the most solitary of them appear on shore for the occasion. Their heat cycles then trigger the males into their own respective ruts. This is how the breeding festivals start, centered around these massive females.\n\nAfterward, the females return to their normal habits, and lay their eggs in the deepest ocean forests where said eggs remain mostly safe and hidden until their hatching.\n\n\nLifespan: \n\nThey spend 40 earth years in the ocean as nymphs, before finally pupating. After that their adult stage starts and lasts twice as long if not longer.\n\nA description of that is as follows:\n\nAfter their strict mating rituals are completed, the females are gravid for nearly 39 earth months before they descend down to the ocean to lay their eggs at low morning tide. Some may lay earlier or later, and this is generally considered a bad omen for them.\n\nThese eggs are perfectly circular and resemble large green pearls. rather than the hard calcium shell of a reptile or bird, these eggs possess a taut leathery texture and are semi-transparent, possessing an odd resemblance to frog eggs. While their shells are dark to blend in with the seabed, when held up to a light source one would be able to clearly make out the small nymph within. \n\nThis nymph will grow rapidly both within and without the egg, gradually growing scales and sharp spiny fins to defend themselves in long, thickly-muscled, eel-like bodies.\n\nThe jaw of the nymph also resembles that of an eel, displaying both the outer jaw and pharyngeal jaw used to snatch food before pulling it in to its main row of teeth. At this stage of their life they must eat anything and everything that moves in order to sustain a rapid growth rate as well as gain enough nutrients to eventually pupate successfully.\n\nThe oceans on Xyrses XIII are not friendly places. There are many predators which see these nymphs as a food source, sometimes an even essential part of their diet. It is for this reason that the kymera lay so many eggs at once. Approximately 265 per clutch, though they are very small as not to weigh down the mother kymera too much while she is swimming.\n\nCompared to the extremely empathetic and conscientious adults, at this stage they are nearly mindless killing machines. They grow to a full 3 feet in length and become quite fat before finally leaving the watery depths.\n\nAfter roughly 10 Earth years the compulsion to move inland overtakes them. At this time, they stop eating and disgorge everything from within their stomachs. Both the tide and instinct takes them to the beaches from which they were birthed and there they pupate. The pupae casings are wet and web-like, extremely tough and anchored to each other as well as the ground itself, immovable by even the harshest of tides.\n\nFor another three Earth years they will remain like this, growing all the time, before at last a young fully-formed kymera emerges typically at the same time as all the others, barring the rare ones which can come out a day or two late. These late-bloomers need to come out at the same time of day as their peers, though, or they risk getting swept away with the evening or night tide, becoming easy prey to the ruthless beasts lurking outside the city.\n\n\nAbilities: \n\nPsionic; their society is psychically based and has no spoken language. Instead they communicate only in pictures and emotions sent through mental links, and through writing. If properly trained a kymera could master mind-control and even destroy a creature’s mind to cause the body to simply die slowly around a brain telling its heart not to beat anymore. \n\nElectric; they are polarized like eels, with their electricity producing organs located mostly within the tail. Also like electric eels, they have their most important (life-sustaining) organs tucked into a relatively small area about their chest cavity which is heavily insulated by a special protein that coats all these organs at least in several layers. Their whole bodies are composed of this unique protein in varying degrees, making them essentially immune to both their own voltage as well as any which might strike them otherwise. These proteins also form channels along which the electricity can be directed, such as to the hands or feet or even jaws, while keeping the massive amounts of voltage directed outward rather than in. Somewhere along the line evolution decided that, probably for this reason, that a kymera needed not one, but two hearts in case one failed for a moment. Caution must be used with this ability still, however. This is something almost exclusively used for hunting and self defense, because even with all the adequate evolutionary precautions, letting off that much voltage at once does hurt and can temporarily stun an inexperienced kymera, leaving them open to attack should their electricity fail to bring down their foe and rather themselves. They are especially susceptible to these effects when using their electricity outside of water. When submerged, the extra electricity has an easier outlet, and thus works more as intended. This is all provided they do not possess the tech to better utilize this power in both offensive and simply ingenious ways, but that’s for another section.\n\nTechnology and Society: \n\nThey are spacefaring and far beyond that of humanity in terms of tech. The massive amount of energy their parent star emits is their primary power source. They live in ecologically friendly and self-sustaining cities which are built in circular patterns, typically made up of 3 or more large family groups and several sub-groups. The cities which are on the edge of the ocean have great protected beaches where their young are born and hatched.\n\nDespite having left the ocean after coming into adulthood, kymera are still very attuned to watery lifestyles. They sleep most comfortably in water tanks built into their homes. Temperature regulation is not a requirement, but kymera do prefer warm water. Small fish are often kept as pets within these watery beds, to clean their silken skin while they sleep.\n\nWhen they swim they move much more quickly than on land, using their powerful tails to propel themselves smoothly along, side to side like a monitor lizard rather than the up and down motion of dolphins. Much like how seals can close their nostrils underwater, kymera automatically pin their ears back and have a mechanism to close off their ear canals to prevent water from getting in. Their cities reflect this lifestyle, harboring canals as paths to swim through and get places quickly, as well as deep pools used for resting.\n\nSince ocean access is a necessity for them to breed, mating is a very sacred act and only occurs within oceanside cities at particular times. It is a celebration of sorts that even those who do not wish to breed often partake in for the sheer novelty of the festivities. There are no 'mated pairs' and they have no concept of 'claiming' one another. They breed with any one of their family group as much as is desired or required. \n\nThey follow this strict ritual to reduce mortality rates in their young, as well as to be there to welcome the young ones when they come out of their cocoons to be taken safely to nurseries and indoctrinated into society.\n\nThe hatchling “adults” are small when they come out; no taller than three feet, and nearly emaciate from using up all the resources in their previous nymph bodies to transform into their final stage. They grow quickly when adequately fed their preferred diet of meat and fish, however, reaching full height by five Earth years more.\n\nAs always, there are outliers. Sometimes a kymera nymph will make it upon the wrong shore, be it due to violent ocean waves or simply a mistake in navigation, and pupate far away from civilization and others of its kind. Kymera born alone like this are doomed to exist without a family. But even then they often find their way to one colony or another. It’s unheard of for a group of kymera to ever reject one of their own in need. There are places for these outliers in society, as they do much better alone than those of their kin who are bonded by birth. These kymera specifically make great space pilots and explorers.\n\nOverall, kymera are a peaceful race. Despite their frightful capabilities, none tend to contemplate acts of violence unless it is for self defense against the more violent species they share their planet with. This, unfortunately, leaves them open and vulnerable to the races who are more obsessed with war and are thus equipped…\n\nLanguage and Naming Conventions:\n\nAs stated above, kymera do not speak verbally. Therefore, their language is much different than ours. I do my best to translate and simplify their names to be understandable. The name “Gerra” for example I have taken from Babylonian and Akkadian lore, as that is the name of their god of fire. This is due to the fact that Gerra’s name would be projected into the mind as an image of Zyrses XII’s parent star as well as fire and a sensation of heat, and an image of battle.\n\nAll kymera are named like this. A series of images, emotions and sometimes sensations. Usually preceded by a title which describes their status or occupation, such as guardian or fisherman, and followed by where they’re from, whether that be city, group, or ship they belong to.\n\nCities and geography are named similarly, as in, they are projected images and sensations. In this way, kymera are fantastic at telling and learning directions, as it can be projected directly rather than just told in vague terms.\n\nTheir entire language is based on emotion rather than speech. They do have a manner of writing, which is akin to hieroglyphics and Japanese in the sense that each symbol or combination thereof written represents an object, animal, place or person.",
