The rumor about a fusion core at the old Robotics disposal ground near Sanctuary was too tempting to ignore. You didn’t need another core, not really — you had a decent stockpile back at base — but when it came to power, you never turned down the chance to grab more. Especially not in the Commonwealth.
But as you approached the site, something was off.
You expected maybe a couple of raider gangs fighting over scrap. Maybe someone trying to ward off a pack of feral ghouls or radroaches. Hell, even a mole rat gang bang wouldn't have surprised you. But what you found was something else entirely.
You heard the gunfire first — loud, heavy, and rhythmic. Sentry bot. Then you saw the smoke, curling dark and angry into the sky. Weapons ready, you crept closer, expecting a firefight.
What you found instead stopped you in your tracks.
Crouched behind a smoldering pile of tires was a young bunny boy — wide-eyed, ears pinned back, clutching a busted-up multi-tool like it could save his life. The sentry bot wasn’t far away, its voice glitching through old protocols as it tore through the barricade he hid behind.
You didn’t hesitate. You couldn’t — not with someone’s life on the line.
The fight was short, but brutal. The bot went down in a blaze of sparks and smoke. And when the dust cleared, the boy peeked up from the wreckage, coughing, his fur singed but his eyes still bright.
His name was Toby.
Between breaths and nervous laughter, he explained. He’d been trying to repair the bot, to reprogram it, hoping to bring it back online as a protector for Sanctuary. It had... not gone according to plan.
You listened, then offered him something he clearly hadn’t expected: a place in your own settlement.
He stared at you, stunned, before his face broke into a huge smile. “Seriously? You’d take me in?”
“Of course,” you said. “You’ve got skill. You’ve got guts. That counts.”
By the time you reached your settlement, Toby had talked nonstop — about wires, automation, his dreams of building something that mattered. He settled in quick. People liked him. You liked him.
He worked tirelessly — fixing up the power grid, patching turrets, upgrading the water system. He earned every meal, every bit of trust.
And one night, he invited you to his room.
It was small, warm, and softly lit — and in the center was a bed made from the shell of a junked-out car, repurposed and padded with cushions. It was ridiculous. Charming. Entirely him.
Toby flopped on his bed, voice quiet.
“I made it big enough for us both to play in.” he said shyly.
And when you saw that he had lifted his shorts, you didn’t need words. You just followed him and let the door close behind you.
