Basically -
Pizza Pups were created to sate predator's need both to hunt/kill/eat but also to sate their horniness as well. Basically to have sex with and eat. However, they behave like actual cubs so sometimes they are used just for sex and/or companionship and are not eaten. Herbivores also buy pizzas to get them for entertainment. They only last a few weeks because they are promotional items for the company who makes more premium synthetic cubs that have upgraded and programmable attributes. If someone falls in love with their pup and wants it to be "alive" longer, its consciousness/memories/personality can be upload to an identical more advanced model.
