So a long time ago there was a dream. A dream to come up with a species that could be translated through multiple medias, genres, and settings. A species that could be used as a representation of myself out in the big unknown lands of the interwebs. A species known as Skervons.
Skervons came about as a combination of various features of skunks, servals, and falcons. Later, human-like features were added to them as well. They were originally envisioned as genetic experimentation by a corporation with less than noble ideals, who wished to sell them as the "perfect companion". Instincts, personality traits, and aesthetics were taken from each parent race in order to create a dangerous predator with strong learning capabilities that quickly and easily bonded to a family group. Later, I began to work on a fantasy/science-fiction version of them that could be used in other settings. For anyone interested in making one of their own, the original genetic experimentation-styled information should be proofread and uploaded soon, but I've been excited to put this up, so it's arriving a bit ahead!

Notable species aesthetics include:
- Feline body structure
- Large skunk-like tail
- Large feline ears
- Forelimbs/hands are scaled, with large talon-like claws
- Brightly colored 'mane' plumage on head and neck
- Fur coloration and markings are highly varied
- Most common markings are spots and stripes

Roughly three years ago I commissioned the same person with a full reference sheet for my character, one that would also be suitable for the whole species. It was a large undertaking, we both knew that. She needed the money for future plans, so we settled on a price and I paid. And thus Murphy's Law came into effect. Computer troubles, moving troubles, more computer troubles, job troubles, wrist injury troubles, hard-drive erasure troubles. The last was probably the most crippling, her laptop had been taken and formatted, and as far as I know she lost pretty much everything. Not just this project, but possibly several other commissions as well. She offered the money back to me at least once (but I'm sure multiple times), but I declined and told her to keep it. I just hoped Murphy would go crawl back into his hole and leave us alone.
The last time I talked to her was about 6 months ago. We didn't really communicate frequently as it was, as both our lives were hectic. I hope she's doing alright, but seeing the closure of her FA account worries me. Maybe someday she'll return.
Since I hadn't talked to her in so long, and this project has been sitting around for quite a while, I decided to take what scraps I had from her progress and restarts and whatever else and try to fit them together with my minimal artistic ability into something of a usable sheet. After a lot of burning and dodging and color adjustment and filling in overlapping areas and trimming the lines and god knows what, I think I'm satisfied for now.
It's about time this sheet saw the light of day, even in the state it is! And perhaps someday, somewhere down the road, the species will finally get the full detail sheet they truly deserve.
