The exotic, and sometimes endangered, animals gathered crowds by the hundreds, and even thousands on some days.\n\nIt was hard to be surprised at that, really. People loved animals in general, even in the biggest and most bustling city in the country, and they were quite a sight to see. The sets of hot dog stands and popcorn dispensers were okay too, but it was mostly the creatures inhabited behind the cages that drew in the public.\n\nOf course, there was one in particular that the people really came out to see; the star of the show, the king of the ring, the master of ceremonies himself, Alex the lion.\n\nThe big cat loved the spotlight as much as he loved steak, and he could often be egotistical, but he wasn't a total jerk. For a vicious predator, he was a nice guy and fun to get along with, and they enjoyed his company.\n\nSpeaking of, other notable residents/stars of the zoo involved Marty, the wise-cracking zebra with more tricks than a genie, Melman, the only giraffe in the world worried about having more black spots than brown, and the reason gor drawing in more of an \"unusual\" crowd, Gloria.\n\nThe sassy hippo lady was a sight for the eyes, and not just because her large frame often obscured the vision of anyone when she was standing before them.\n\nUnbeknownst to her, she was often oogled and admired by some boys for her high size and uncarryable weight. Even more unbeknownst, due was often fapped over by those same guys for that.\n\nAnd not just the animals, either; human males that had a thing for hefty gals like her thought of the African-bred heavyweight as a goddess living among them, too.\n\nHow they wished they could afford to adopt her, make her their own pet and do as they wished with her. Or more accurately, let her do as SHE wished with them.\n\nIt was hard to say whether or not she was aware of how attractive she was to the males in general, but she knew she was gorgeous in general.\n\nOf course, they weren't the only animals that lived there. There were also the scheming penguins, or the sophisticated monkeys, and a handful of other mammals, reptiles, etc.\n\nAnd the word on the street was that they would be getting a new little friend joining them today. Some kind of endangered species that had been rescued by some animal rights group in Nevada, which the NY city council had just recently bought out and were having shipped over to their public exhibit.\n\nThe ones that actually cared had discussed and given a few guesses to what exactly he or she would be, while the ones that didn't really care had either already forgotten or ignored the subject completely.\n\nThey would soon find out; the van carrying the newcomer had arrived at the zoo and pulled up to the office over an hour ago. Fair to guess that most of the paperwork was pretty much done at this point, and their cage had been prepped near the public bathroom.\n\nFrom the small size of their new home and large tree branch & decorations of leaves and shrubbery that adorned the interior, they guessed they would be another smaller creature. A hummingbird, maybe? Or a squirrel? Perhaps a chipmunk?\n\nThose wouldn't have been too wild guesses, but then again, none of them were endangered and would have the staff gone through all this trouble just to get them here.\n\n\"So, uh, how you holding up over there, Melman?\" Alex asked his neighbor, who was staring nervously out into the park with an anxious expression, looking ready to hurl.\n\n\"Oh, fine, fine...\" The giraffe lied, trying to steady his breaths. The idea of meeting someone new so close to him was wrecking his mind a little. \"Just, uh... Excited to meet them... You don't think it'll eat us, do you?\"\n\nThe lion couldn't help but chuckle at the tall animal's paranoia.\n\n\"If it tries, you got me to sort him out.\" The large cat responded, combing his well-groomed mane a little with his paw, stroking both his hair and his ego.\n\n\"Right, right...\" Melman agreed, taking a deep breath to try and relax himself.\n\n\"Mel, don't sweat it.\" Marty followed up, trotting about in a circle in his little walking space. \"Just think of 'em like one of us, okay? We're gonna love 'em as much as we love each other.\"\n\n\"Yeah, sure...\" The anxious animal followed up, awaiting the arrival of their new \"friend\", though his eyes often darted to the hippo next door.\n\nGloria hadn't been interested in the conversation, instead just lounging atop the pool of water below her. His fur was white, with a little beige added in, and his feet were distinctively black.\n\nNot too surprising, his kind were known as the black-footed ferret, and they were indeed an endangered breed of their species.\n\nAnd though his appearance was certainly unexpected, he didn't seem at all scared, and the smile on his face was genuine and friendly.\n\n\"Wow...\" He announced, looking around his new surroundings. \"I never thought I'd see New York! And a zoo, no less!\"\n\nAlex looked to Melman, and then back to Marty, then back to the new kid.\n\n\"Hey, bud.\" The lion greeted. \"Nice to meet you.\"\n\n\"Thanks, nice to meet you too.\" The ferret replied, taking a look at all the other animals in his vicinity, setting his eyes on Marty and Melman, but his attention was mostly drawn towards Gloria.\n\nThe moment his eyes fell on the hippo, the smile on his face grew, and his cheeks went red.\n\n\"Ooh, what do we have here?\" The newcomer said, his tail curling up a bit as he laid eyes on the plus-sized animal.\n\n\"That's Gloria.\" Alex answered, nodding towards the girl. \"She's a real sweetheart.\"\n\n\"Sweetheart...\" The ferret repeated, his mind already filling up with ideas.\n\n\"Uh, hi, I'm Melman.\" The giraffe introduced, a bit confused at the new boy's reaction to the big girl.\n\n\"Oh, hi, uh...\" He paused for a second, still a little distracted by Gloria, but he eventually looked away and turned to the towering mammal. \"Kane.\"\n\n\"Nice to meet you, Kane.\" Melman said, a bit more calmly than usual. \"We hope you enjoy it here.\"\n\n\"Thanks, I will...\" The fluffy critter responded, knowing full well that he will, now that he had seen the titanic lady nearby.\n\nAll he had to do was play his cards right, and she'll be his before he knows it.\n\n\"Well, looks like we got off on the right foot, Kane.\" Alex remarked. \"Glad you're fitting in alright.\"\n\n'I'll be glad when I'm \"fitting in\" her gut.' The ferret thought, but his actual words were far more subtle.\n\n\"I think I'll be fine.\" Kane said, trying not to look at the hippo too much so as not to give away his immediate attraction to her.\n\nThis was going to be a long day, but he just needed to wait.\n\nIt felt like he had waited his whole life for something like this.
