The summer air in Jarrow would be unforgiving as workmen, desperate to feed their families in the midsts of 1936, scurry around the 269 meter long beast they were tasked to demolish with their blowtorches and other tools. Some of the men would stop working momentarily to take a photograph of the remains of the beast’s once beautiful form, debris now littering the bottom-left section of the C-deck landing of her aft grand staircase, her forecastle also visible due to a lack of superstructure. Only an odd month or so ago, roughly May of that same year, funnel number three, still painted in it’s White Star Line buff yellow and black top, the last one standing on “Old Reliable”, came crashing down due to a crane, leaving but a pathetic form of her once honerable service as the sole survivor of White Star Line’s three Olympians. A pained scream would then cut through the now frigid air as the 24 year old snow leopard, who’s fur markings were akin to the dazzle camouflage worn by Great War troopships, jolted awake, her breath coming in short, painful gasps as she looked around in fear and sorrow. “Sister?!” a slightly younger white furred lion with black ear tips and green eyes would say with concern while recovering from being startled awake by her panicked scream. “Are you alright, sis?” He asked as he licked her right ear gently with affection. “Y.. Yeah…” she would turn to face her younger brother, looking into his pulsing green eyes after backing from his tongue. “I’m fine, Greenstar, just… A bad dream” Her breathing would slowly return to normal as the pain in her chest subsides. Greenstar would look into her blue eyes with concern, his tail flicking as he spoke “your scrapping again, sis?” Her ears flicked a little as she moved closer to him, a growl escaping her throat “now how did you come to that conclusion, little brother?” A chuckle would escape the lion’s throat as he answered with “how do you know when mine are about that damned sea mine?” Before leaning closer to his sister “besides, would you rather I bring up the Hawke back in 1911 again?” With a flex of her powerful muscles, she would have her brother pinned, anger in her eyes, “you should know better than to bring up that incident with that damned war ship, brother!”, her claws dug deep enough into his fur to break skin Greenstar would wince in pain as he felt his sister’s sharp claws draw blood, causing him to hyperventilate a little “sorry sister… I know. How.. How you feel… About the Hawke..”, his words coming in short, rapid bursts between gasps, “how do you… You think I feel.. About the mine… that killed me..” “Sorry brother.” The snow leopard would sigh, her claws retracting as she leaned forwards to nuzzle his cheek gently “I shouldn’t be so harsh to you… Unlike Kion and his “Lion Guard”, you mean no harm” she would lick Greenstar’s right shoulder where she had injured him before resuming her thoughts with “Aala wasn’t any luckier than us either…” “Aye” Greenstar would relax as he accepted her affection “she’s the most famous of us sisters too..” ‘If only because she struck that iceberg on her maiden voyage and took 1,500 or so lives with her” She would say, as if to finish his statement, before continuing with “and yet I, the one who survived, the one they nicknamed “Old Reliable” because of her wartime career, am often the most forgotten because of Sister’s fame” With a swipe of his front left paw, the younger white lion would bat at his sister’s face “Don’t talk like that, sis. You know as well as i do that she didn’t want to die like that. It haunts her just as badly as our deaths in those lives haunt us.” He would then put both his front paws on hr cheeks as he calmly says “Besides, we cannot change how we died back then, we can only make these new lives we were granted better, say why don’t we go for a walk to clear our heads?” Tilting her head in acknowledgement, she would look into his eyes “I suppose that would be nice, just me and you…” Smiling a little, Greenstar would wriggle in a vain attempt to get free of his sister’s grip. “Could ya at least let me up so we can?” Playfully rolling her eyes, the snow leopard would get off of Greenstar and look into his eyes with a silent smile Silently returning the gaze, Greenstar simply nodded to his sister for her to lead the way Accepting his silent request, she would begin to walk out onto one of the trails near her snowy mountain lair, the sun shining brightly overhead. She would turn around to glance back, her tail low as she stands still, waiting on her younger brother. Greenstar would be stumbling awkwardly as he tries to catch up to his sister, only to bump into her due to her fur blending in with the snow and rocks “Sorry sis!” he would say, embarrassment in his voice as he steps back. Teasingly, he would add “No wonder you are “The Ghost of the mountains” to so many others in this life” “I think I like it better when you call me by the nickname of our previous lives”, the snow leopard would chuckle “though i suppose I don’t mind when you use my current nickname, little brother” Greenstar would attempt to hide his face behind his front paws due to how flustered he got from her statement, his tail thrashing anxiously as he simply giggled “Thanks, sister”
