"description": "Redemption Part Four\n\nKovu tensed up as he felt Simba’s hot breath on the back of his neck. So this was the way that the King chose to end him, teeth to the back of the neck and then a twist and he would be gone. If he had two regrets they were that he never got to tell his mother he wanted no part of her plan. That and he didn’t get to see his friend Kiara one last time and thank her for the…fun is what she called it.\n\nAs Kovu felt Simba’s teeth connect with the back of his neck, he closed his eyes, and tried to relax, hoping that would help make this as painless as possible. However no pain came as Simba’s teeth closed around the skin on the back of his neck. Quite the opposite, Kovu felt his whole body instinctively go limp. Unable to move, Kovu opened his eyes just in time to see the ground moving away from his feet, he was being lifted up.\n\nKovu's fear was temporarily replaced by confusion, his mother sometimes carried him when he was to hurt from his training or they needed to get somewhere quickly. This however was something completely different. When his mother carried him, she carried him by the body, her teeth digging into his back and stomach with every step she took. Kovu’s mind flashed back to when he had first meet Kiara, more specifically when their parents had taken them away, Simba had carried Kiara away by the scruff of the neck, like he was doing with him now. Was he…was he treating him like his own cub?\n\nHe was pulled from his thoughts, when Simba turned his head and the cub’s body was forced to follow, they were moving. Kovu was given a one last look at the fallen log where he had crossed the river, his only way to escape, before it was obscured by tall grass.\n\nAs they moved through the foliage, tall grass repeatedly struck Kovu in the face, unable to move much of his body the cub was forced to close his eyes and bare the repeated strikes. After a short distance the feel of the grass disappeared, spitting out pieces of the annoying foliage, Kovu opened his eyes, his jaw dropped and he let out a gasp at what he saw.\n\nLife, not just the relentless march of termites, fields mice and other small creatures. No everywhere he looked there was life, from a lush greenery of the plant life, to the insects, to the vast variety of animals that he could see moving in the distances. Herds of zebra grazed in open fields, while a lone cheetah observed its surroundings from atop a tall rock, Kovu was even forced to look up in awe as a giraffe feed from the top of a tree that towered over them.\n\nOf course, Kovu had seen all of these animals before but, that was from a great distance, or as a meal. Seeing them up close, along with countless others animals both predator and prey was something else entirely. The trio started down an open path and as Kovu looked down he gulped, large paw prints stood out in the dirt, not only reminding the Prince of his situation but, he now knew this was a path the King used regularly.\n\nKovu still couldn’t figure it out, why hadn’t Simba killed him or chased him away, why was he carrying him so…gently, to who knows where? Had Kovu’s heart not been racing from the constant fear of the lion carrying him, this walk would actually be relaxing as it gave his tired body a chance to rest.\n\nAs they walked deeper into the Pridelands, Kovu heard the footsteps beside them quicken their pace. “Doing alright Kovu?” He heard Vitani say, he could just see her out of the corner of his eye, she looked up at him, her tail erect, and a smile on her face. Seeing her only reminded him that she was the reason he was here, at the mercy of his mothers enemy “Where?” Kovu manage to stammer fearing that if he spoke to much that it might anger the lion carrying him, like it did when his mother carried him.\n\nNo aggression came, and as Kovu was about to continue speaking he heard Vitani sigh. “Relax, if King Simba wanted to eat you he would have already.” Other than her addressing Simba as King these words would have given Kovu comfort if she had not followed them with more disturbing words “He has more of a taste for lioness” \n\nAt this Kovu heard Simba grumble a bit, and as he was about to ask what she meant, Vitani quicken her pace so that she got ahead of the lions. This wouldn’t have been a big deal, if her tail hadn’t still been erect and Kovu could clearly see under it. Kovu blushed, turning his head as much as he could, seeing under his sisters tail stirred an unusual tingling sensation within Kovu. He didn’t know why but, seeing her with her tail lifted high made him hot, and not a cooling off in the shade hot.\n\nThankfully, Vitani slowed her pace and fell behind the lions, as they came across a trio of female gazelles standing in the shade of a small tree talking. When the gazelles noticed the lions they stopped talking, Kovu expected them to flee but, instead they watched intensely. The gazelle that was in the middle was especially focused on him or so Kovu thought. Quickly he realized that she wasn’t looking at him but, the lion carrying him. She whispered something to the other gazelles and they all started giggling, surprisingly this caused Simba to let out a growl of annoyance as they passed the trio.\n \nKovu wasn’t given time to guess why the gazelles didn’t run or why Simba was annoyed by their giggling. A short way up the path, there was the sound of a fight, growling and tussling told Kovu that it must have been a fierce battle. Upon rounding the corner however Kovu was surprised to see a pair of hyena pups one male one female, fighting over a bone. Kovu had thought that Simba had driven the hyena’s out of the Pridelands after he had defeated Scar. His mother had also driven them from the elephant grave yard, so what were they doing here.\n\nAs he pondering on this, the male hyena noticed the lions approach. A look of fear immediately came to his eyes and he released his grip on his portion of the bone. The female hyena, freed from the force of the males resistance, went tumbling over backwards twice, before landing right side up. While she light up with excitement over her victory, it was short-lived when she saw the male hyena run off into the tall grass. Kovu watched as she turned around as Simba’s neared her, the females eyes went wide as she looked upon the massive lion.\n\nExpecting her to run like her companion, Kovu was surprised as the pup sat there memorized by the massive male lion. Obscuring their path, Simba stopped and looked down at the pup, for a moment there was a thick silence that hung heavy between the lions and the hyena. Finally there was the sound of a crack and Kovu was reminded of the power of a hyena jaws as the bone in the pups mouth snapped in two like a twig. As the two pieces fell to the ground the pup slowly moved out of the way, her eyes never leaving the lions body.\n\nAs they passed by, Kovu realized that the look in the pup’s eyes wasn’t fear but…admiration…envy, no he felt that it was something deeper. Turning his attention back to the path ahead he was treated to the sight of a hornbill circling over head. Kovu’s eyes followed it, as it started to fly ahead of them, then he gasp as he saw what must be their destination in the distance. Priderock, the home and symbol of power for the lions of the Pridelands, Kovu had only ever heard his mother speak of it and how one day it would be his.\n\nAs he stared in awe at the monolith in the distance the sound of parting grass in front of the lions went almost unnoticed. From the vegetation, a male leopard cub appeared, looking around with curiosity. “Something about this leopard seemed familiar.” Kovu thought, apparently Vitani already knew the cub as she quickly rushed forward ahead of them, again Kovu had to redirect his eyes elsewhere so he didn’t stare underneath her erect tail.\n\nUpon hearing her approach the cub quickly turned his head, his eyes widening and ears going flat as he saw the lions. Kovu watched as Vitani quickly walked up to him, a toothy smile on her face “Are you suppose to be out this far.” She said in an almost teasing tone. The cub opened his mouth to speak but, closed it and looked to the ground as Simba approached. “Not now Vitani” Simba said, his stern voice somewhat muffled from having Kovu in his mouth. \n\nVitani grumbled at hearing this, then smiled again and gave the cub a wink before starting forward again. As Simba passed by, he turned his head to look down at the cub. The leopard looked up briefly at the lion, then turned his eyes to the ground once again. Kovu knew the gesture well as his pridemates often did this when his mother was around, it wasn’t fear, it was submission. Simba faced forward once again and continued walking down the path, once the King was fully past, Kovu heard the leopard cub let out a sigh of relief.\n\n“What was going on?” Kovu thought as they continued down the path. This place was so much different than his mother described it, sure it was more lively and the wide variety of prey animals made Kovu hope that they would offer him a last meal. However, all this was nothing compared to how all the animals acted, no not just the animals, everything seemed to have a place, everything seemed…right.\n\nFor some reason it bought Kovu a moment of peace and as he closed his eyes and inhaled, taking in the scents of the vegetation and all the animals that had been close by recently, he wanted the peace of mind that it brought him to last forever. \n\nAs he opened his eyes this was not to be as he could now clearly see Priderock, growing closer with every step Simba took. While there was still some ways to go before they reached it, Kovu knew this is where the King was taking him but, why?\n\nEven though Kovu didn’t know it, this place would change him, give him new beliefs, new values, and if he truly wanted perhaps even a new home.\n--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------\nSimba was not happy to say the least, had the young Outlander cub in his mouth been able to see his face at anytime, he also would have known this. All of this had been easy, Vitani had told him where Kovu would be, kept him distracted while Simba got into position, and stalled him from fleeing which would have triggered Simba's predatory instincts. All had gone well and yet despite everything, Simba had truly wished the Outlander Prince had run, at anytime, then he would have had an excuse as to why he had not brought Scar’s heir back to Priderock.\n\nYet, here he was slowly walking through the Pridelands back to his den, carrying the son of his enemy in his mouth, the taste of the Outlanders unclean fur soiling tongue, and the cub scent making it difficult for him not to bite down in frustration. With every step he took, Simba had to fight the urge to drop the Outlander cub, and tell him to get out. \n\nDespite him reminding himself repeatedly that this was for the greater good, Zira’s words about the cub haunted him both while he was awake and while he sleep. “He was hand-chosen by Scar to follow in his paw prints and become...king!” Zira’s words were so full of confidence that it made the King shiver every time he thought of them. While he took no pleasure seeing his uncle’s death, he knew that there was no hope left for him after he turned down his offer of mercy. Now his heir was literally within the Kings jaws, at any moment he could end the cub, insuring that his home and his family would not fall to ruin and death again.\n\nYet, something held the King back from taking the cubs life, the desire to uphold the Circle of Life and not needlessly take a life. Still as he walked along to the path that he had made, towards Priderock the displeasure for the situation, continued to grow within him.\n\nIn an attempt to find some comfort, he glanced toward the waterhole where he knew his lionesses lounged, well most of them. He told them to spend the day away from Priderock while he dealt with something. They had no idea that something was dealing with another Outlander cub.\n\nSimba had been quite pleased that they had accepted Vitani so quickly, she had been quite timid being around so many new full grown lionesses but, within the last week they realized she was no threat and treated her like another member of the pride. Speaking of, the Outlander Princess was quick to show her energy and enthusiasm toward the situation, by repeatedly moving around him with her tail raised high making it difficult for him to both concentrate and walk. When Vitani had agreed to this plan, she was quick to request a proper reward for her efforts, and while his body was eager to reward her, his worry would insure it would be sometime before she got to collect her reward.\n\nAs they neared the base of Priderock, Simba was relieved that the cub he carried had been so quiet, as he readied himself for the walk to the main den, he knew that was about to change, That however was all part of the plan, what was soon to follow would test not only the cub but, his own restraint. Through all of this Simba kept repeating to himself, it was all for a greater good. \n\nNote: I'll address the obvious, I wrote this part from two perspectives instead of my usually one. I screwed up and wrote both, failing to realize I screwed up the plan I had for the next page. I wanted to express Simba's feeling toward the situation, so I just kept the second part and added it to this picture, I think it complements it well. As usually Backlash91 did a magnificent job with both the emotion and movement of the characters, not to mention displaying Simba assets nicely. So this was the way that the King chose to end him, teeth to the back of the neck and then a twist and he would be gone. If he had two regrets they were that he never got to tell his mother he wanted no part of her plan. That and he didn’t get to see his friend Kiara one last time and thank her for the…fun is what she called it.

As Kovu felt Simba’s teeth connect with the back of his neck, he closed his eyes, and tried to relax, hoping that would help make this as painless as possible. However no pain came as Simba’s teeth closed around the skin on the back of his neck. Quite the opposite, Kovu felt his whole body instinctively go limp. Unable to move, Kovu opened his eyes just in time to see the ground moving away from his feet, he was being lifted up.

Kovu's fear was temporarily replaced by confusion, his mother sometimes carried him when he was to hurt from his training or they needed to get somewhere quickly. Was he…was he treating him like his own cub?

He was pulled from his thoughts, when Simba turned his head and the cub’s body was forced to follow, they were moving. Kovu was given a one last look at the fallen log where he had crossed the river, his only way to escape, before it was obscured by tall grass.

As they moved through the foliage, tall grass repeatedly struck Kovu in the face, unable to move much of his body the cub was forced to close his eyes and bare the repeated strikes. After a short distance the feel of the grass disappeared, spitting out pieces of the annoying foliage, Kovu opened his eyes, his jaw dropped and he let out a gasp at what he saw.

Life, not just the relentless march of termites, fields mice and other small creatures. No everywhere he looked there was life, from a lush greenery of the plant life, to the insects, to the vast variety of animals that he could see moving in the distances. Herds of zebra grazed in open fields, while a lone cheetah observed its surroundings from atop a tall rock, Kovu was even forced to look up in awe as a giraffe feed from the top of a tree that towered over them.

Of course, Kovu had seen all of these animals before but, that was from a great distance, or as a meal. Seeing them up close, along with countless others animals both predator and prey was something else entirely. The trio started down an open path and as Kovu looked down he gulped, large paw prints stood out in the dirt, not only reminding the Prince of his situation but, he now knew this was a path the King used regularly.

Kovu still couldn’t figure it out, why hadn’t Simba killed him or chased him away, why was he carrying him so…gently, to who knows where? Had Kovu’s heart not been racing from the constant fear of the lion carrying him, this walk would actually be relaxing as it gave his tired body a chance to rest.

As they walked deeper into the Pridelands, Kovu heard the footsteps beside them quicken their pace. “Doing alright Kovu?” He heard Vitani say, he could just see her out of the corner of his eye, she looked up at him, her tail erect, and a smile on her face. Seeing her only reminded him that she was the reason he was here, at the mercy of his mothers enemy “Where?” Kovu manage to stammer fearing that if he spoke to much that it might anger the lion carrying him, like it did when his mother carried him.

No aggression came, and as Kovu was about to continue speaking he heard Vitani sigh. “Relax, if King Simba wanted to eat you he would have already.” Other than her addressing Simba as King these words would have given Kovu comfort if she had not followed them with more disturbing words “He has more of a taste for lioness”

At this Kovu heard Simba grumble a bit, and as he was about to ask what she meant, Vitani quicken her pace so that she got ahead of the lions. This wouldn’t have been a big deal, if her tail hadn’t still been erect and Kovu could clearly see under it. Kovu blushed, turning his head as much as he could, seeing under his sisters tail stirred an unusual tingling sensation within Kovu. He didn’t know why but, seeing her with her tail lifted high made him hot, and not a cooling off in the shade hot.

Thankfully, Vitani slowed her pace and fell behind the lions, as they came across a trio of female gazelles standing in the shade of a small tree talking. When the gazelles noticed the lions they stopped talking, Kovu expected them to flee but, instead they watched intensely. The gazelle that was in the middle was especially focused on him or so Kovu thought. Quickly he realized that she wasn’t looking at him but, the lion carrying him. She whispered something to the other gazelles and they all started giggling, surprisingly this caused Simba to let out a growl of annoyance as they passed the trio.

Kovu wasn’t given time to guess why the gazelles didn’t run or why Simba was annoyed by their giggling. His mother had also driven them from the elephant grave yard, so what were they doing here.

As he pondering on this, the male hyena noticed the lions approach. Kovu watched as she turned around as Simba’s neared her, the females eyes went wide as she looked upon the massive lion.

Expecting her to run like her companion, Kovu was surprised as the pup sat there memorized by the massive male lion. As the two pieces fell to the ground the pup slowly moved out of the way, her eyes never leaving the lions body.

As they passed by, Kovu realized that the look in the pup’s eyes wasn’t fear but…admiration…envy, no he felt that it was something deeper. Turning his attention back to the path ahead he was treated to the sight of a hornbill circling over head. Kovu’s eyes followed it, as it started to fly ahead of them, then he gasp as he saw what must be their destination in the distance. Priderock, the home and symbol of power for the lions of the Pridelands, Kovu had only ever heard his mother speak of it and how one day it would be his.

As he stared in awe at the monolith in the distance the sound of parting grass in front of the lions went almost unnoticed. From the vegetation, a male leopard cub appeared, looking around with curiosity. “Something about this leopard seemed familiar.” Kovu thought, apparently Vitani already knew the cub as she quickly rushed forward ahead of them, again Kovu had to redirect his eyes elsewhere so he didn’t stare underneath her erect tail.

Upon hearing her approach the cub quickly turned his head, his eyes widening and ears going flat as he saw the lions.

Vitani grumbled at hearing this, then smiled again and gave the cub a wink before starting forward again. As Simba passed by, he turned his head to look down at the cub. The leopard looked up briefly at the lion, then turned his eyes to the ground once again. Kovu knew the gesture well as his pridemates often did this when his mother was around, it wasn’t fear, it was submission. Simba faced forward once again and continued walking down the path, once the King was fully past, Kovu heard the leopard cub let out a sigh of relief.

“What was going on?” Kovu thought as they continued down the path. This place was so much different than his mother described it, sure it was more lively and the wide variety of prey animals made Kovu hope that they would offer him a last meal. However, all this was nothing compared to how all the animals acted, no not just the animals, everything seemed to have a place, everything seemed…right.

For some reason it bought Kovu a moment of peace and as he closed his eyes and inhaled, taking in the scents of the vegetation and all the animals that had been close by recently, he wanted the peace of mind that it brought him to last forever.

As he opened his eyes this was not to be as he could now clearly see Priderock, growing closer with every step Simba took. While there was still some ways to go before they reached it, Kovu knew this is where the King was taking him but, why?

Even though Kovu didn’t know it, this place would change him, give him new beliefs, new values, and if he truly wanted perhaps even a new home.
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Simba was not happy to say the least, had the young Outlander cub in his mouth been able to see his face at anytime, he also would have known this. All of this had been easy, Vitani had told him where Kovu would be, kept him distracted while Simba got into position, and stalled him from fleeing which would have triggered Simba's predatory instincts. All had gone well and yet despite everything, Simba had truly wished the Outlander Prince had run, at anytime, then he would have had an excuse as to why he had not brought Scar’s heir back to Priderock.

Yet, here he was slowly walking through the Pridelands back to his den, carrying the son of his enemy in his mouth, the taste of the Outlanders unclean fur soiling tongue, and the cub scent making it difficult for him not to bite down in frustration. With every step he took, Simba had to fight the urge to drop the Outlander cub, and tell him to get out.

Despite him reminding himself repeatedly that this was for the greater good, Zira’s words about the cub haunted him both while he was awake and while he sleep. Now his heir was literally within the Kings jaws, at any moment he could end the cub, insuring that his home and his family would not fall to ruin and death again.

Yet, something held the King back from taking the cubs life, the desire to uphold the Circle of Life and not needlessly take a life. Still as he walked along to the path that he had made, towards Priderock the displeasure for the situation, continued to grow within him.

In an attempt to find some comfort, he glanced toward the waterhole where he knew his lionesses lounged, well most of them. He told them to spend the day away from Priderock while he dealt with something. They had no idea that something was dealing with another Outlander cub.

Simba had been quite pleased that they had accepted Vitani so quickly, she had been quite timid being around so many new full grown lionesses but, within the last week they realized she was no threat and treated her like another member of the pride. Speaking of, the Outlander Princess was quick to show her energy and enthusiasm toward the situation, by repeatedly moving around him with her tail raised high making it difficult for him to both concentrate and walk. When Vitani had agreed to this plan, she was quick to request a proper reward for her efforts, and while his body was eager to reward her, his worry would insure it would be sometime before she got to collect her reward.

As they neared the base of Priderock, Simba was relieved that the cub he carried had been so quiet, as he readied himself for the walk to the main den, he knew that was about to change, That however was all part of the plan, what was soon to follow would test not only the cub but, his own restraint. Through all of this Simba kept repeating to himself, it was all for a greater good.

Note: I'll address the obvious, I wrote this part from two perspectives instead of my usually one. For those that didn't catch it their are a couple of hints to future series in the story as well a special guest in the community who I hope I can have in a series some day.
