"description": "Redemption Part One\n\nA glowing warmth slowly crept across the Pridelands as the sun started to rise. The illumination of first light signaled a vast amount of animals to move away from the places of slumber and begin important task such as eating and travel before the day became to hot. As the Pridelands came to life with animals both big and small, the nerves of one small animal in particular were stretched thin, for he knew if he was discovered by any of them, it could very well mean his life. \n\nAt the river’s edge, which separate the fertile Pridelands from the desolate Outlands, a young lion cub sat alone. His appearance much different to that of the lions of the Pridelands in both color and health. His haggard unclean fur covering up the bruises that had been delivered to him during his training the previous evening. Training that had been unnecessary due to knowing he was going to go on his current mission that his mother had also forced upon him.\n\nKovu’s eyes repeatedly shifted from the shallow slowly flowing river to the green grasslands in front of him. Both held great danger and while he had nearly lost his life to crocodiles, a short time ago, it was the predator that walked by land that scared him the most. He had sat there by the water edge long before the sun had started to come up. This along with the training from the previous day had dulled his senses and the fatigue repeatedly forced the cub to get up and move around in an attempt to stay awake.\n\nFeeling his eyes get heavy once again, he stood up and walked to the river edge for a drink. Looking back at the tall grass, a new fear fell over him. Not for himself but, his sister Vitani, their mother had recently sent her to infiltrate her enemy King Simba’s pride. She was to meet him near a tree that had fallen across the river every seven days at dawn to pass along information to their mother. \n\nSo far she had yet to arrive, did she fail, did the Pridelanders kill her, did Simba eat her? Kovu shuddered remember the look on Simba’s face when he learned that Kovu was to follow in Scar’s paw prints. The growl the King had given while glaring at him had instilled such fear in him, maybe even more then his mother did. Yet, when paying for some law that he didn’t know about, his mother had offered him up to the lion as payment. To scared at the time to truly understand his mother’s betrayal, Kovu had stared into the Kings eyes, knowing that a painful death awaited him. \n\nYet, no attack came, only the words “Take him and get out, we’re finished here” with those words his mother’s plan began. Seeing that Simba would not take the life of a cub and that his daughter had taken a liking to him, she planned to use that against Simba. His mother had sent Vitani into the Pridelands alone to join Simba’s pride, and Kovu’s training had become even more brutal. His mother said it was to prepare him for when he became king but, as Kovu’s tired eyes surveyed the shifting grass of the Pridelands, he felt that it was unnecessary.\n\nPushing such stressful thoughts and memories aside, Kovu slowly walked to the river’s edge for a drink, repeatedly looking over his shoulder back to the tall grass behind him. Once he reach the river’s edge he leaned down and started to lap away at the water, it was refreshing and was slightly cool.\n As he pulled back, he stared down at his own reflection in the water. The image before him captured the cub’s appearance perfectly, his fur was dirty and unkept, his eyes heavy from lack of sleep, and what muscles that did show were not from proper diet but, constant unwanted training. Kovu signed, closing his eyes, his body ached from the constant training, his hunger was rarely sated, and every time he tried to interact with his fellow pride members, they were quick to avoid him, fearing his mothers wraith if they should interfere with his training.\n\n He longed for something better, he didn’t know what, something that didn’t involve the pain and hatred of his mothers plan for him to overthrow Simba. Kiara, Simba’s daughter whom he had met not long ago, had given him a taste of that. While he had been quick to dismiss her at first, they had saved one another from being eaten by crocodiles, and though their meeting was by chance and their parents hated one another, Kovu longed to see her again.\n\nAs he opened his eyes to look upon his refection once again, his imagination betray him and the image in the water was not his own but, the Pridelander Princess. Her perfect figure, her beautiful eyes, all were there for the Outlander cub to admire. Kovu signed longingly as he closed his eyes again, his thoughts shifted to his mothers “Grand” plan. She wanted to use him to get close to Kiara and therefore Simba, and when the time came end him and take control of the Pridelands like Scar had done.\nIn truth, Kovu wanted no part of his mothers plan, he had never known Scar, and her devotion to him seem more misplaced, then noble. If Simba had murdered Scar in cold blood as his mother had claimed, why had the animals of the Pridelands been so quick to accept him as their king.\n\nKovu’s thoughts were interrupted by a sudden disturbance in the grass. He tensed up and prepared himself to sprint toward the fallen log that lead back to the Outlands. His breathing increased and his heart began to race as the disturbance in the grass drew closer to him. As he unsheathed his claws into the soft dirt, to give himself more traction to run, the grass slowly parted.\n\nKovu body shook with relief as he let out a sigh, not only was the figure that had emerged from the tall grass not Simba or one of his lionesses but, it was the lion he had feared for. Vitani stepped fully to the clearing by the river, her movements were slow and relaxed and her eyes were half closed almost as if she didn’t have a care in the world. \n\nThis briefly gave Kovu pause, his sister was always alert, and she was always quick to greet him and ask if he wanted to fight. This confusion was quickly swept away by relief as she approached him. “Vitani, I’m so glad that you’re ok” Kovu said as he approached his sister. She merely smiled, and then she did something that left the cub speechless. \n\nAs she got close, she proceeded to put her head under his chin and run as much of her body as she could against his. Kovu was dumbfounded, not just from her out of character affection but, the flood of smells that came off of her temporarily overwhelmed his senses.\n\nKovu inhaled deeply smelling things he could only dream of, from planets and other animals, to what he assumed were other lions. There were two smells in particular that caught his attention, one that brought a shiver down his spine, the other brought a sense of great joy to him. These scents were of course those of King Simba and his daughter Kiara. However the scent of these two was…overwhelming as if their scent was ingrained into Vitani’s very fur.\n\nKovu was snapped back to reality when the end of Vitani’s tail flicked him on the nose. As he crinkled his nose in an attempt to keep from sneezing, he looked at her again and almost gasp. He hadn’t noticed it when he had first seen her but, she looked…healthier. Her fur was clean and seemed brighter, and it looked like she had been eating more as Kovu could no longer see the withered frame of his sister as it had been replaced by fur and muscle.\n\nIt took a moment for Kovu to find his words as he admired his sister’s appearance. “Have they…have they been taking care of you?” Vitani looked back at her body as if she was taking a moment to admire herself before answering him “Oh, they’ve been taking real good care of me.” Something about the way she spoke the last words made Kovu shudder. \n\nAs Kovu looked at his sister, his confusion blinded him to a simple gesture she did. Had he been paying more attention he would have noticed her nod her head to a hornbill that had been sitting in a nearby tree watching the pair. Its spread its wings and flew with haste in the direction that Vitani had come, its departure would mark a new chapter in the cubs life. \n\nNote: Part One is a little later then usually due to some personally issues. Not going to lie, I rewrote this part three times trying to get it right, and I still don't feel that I've done it justice. Going to change up the next few parts from what I original planned, as a result they will probably be much shorter then my usual stories, for better or worse.\n\nVisual Portion of Series:https://inkbunny.net/submissionsviewall.php?rid=c942a202e2&mode=pool&pool_id=83661&page=1&orderby=pool_order&random=no&success=\n\nArtwork By Backlash91\nConcept and Story By Me\nCharacters Belong To Disney \n\n\n\n",
