Energized by the increasing sunlight in the mornings, Ai had turned into a little bundle of sound and motion. Chi, on the other hand, was still feeling the effects of the switch back to daylight saving time. Being a twilight creature and living in a 24-hour society trying to meet its requirements like schoolwork put some additional strain on the circadian rhythm compared to most others, he thought and sighed.
"We shall, as soon as I find my wallet." Chi rummaged through the hallway drawers, checked the clothes rack and the hat shelf. "Where could I have left it?"
Ai produced a pair of dark sunglasses from the side pocket of her jacket and flipped them on her muzzle. "I have it. Let's get going already."
The kits celebrated the warming spring day by taking a stroll around town. Chi noticed how the tree leaves were getting bigger and greener with each passing day. Bird singing had become more diverse too, as more and more of the late migrators were finding their way back after the winter. Ai's attention, however, was caught by entirely other signs of spring.
"Yamazaki green..." Ai mumbled to herself and stopped. She wore a broad grin on her face as she tilted her head to look over her sunglasses after a rather sporty looking street bike that had just passed them and drowned the birdsong in its wake.
After some walking the kits came by a photo booth along the street, next to a kiosk that sold sodas, sweets and soft ice cream. Ai pointed out with her finger at the kiosk, to which Chi shrugged his shoulders and the two got closer to examine the menu that was on display on the kiosk wall. Their minds were made up quickly and while the kiosk clerk worked on the kits' orders, Ai pushed Chi inside the booth.
Sitting at a small, round garden table for two which the kiosk had reserved for their customers, the kits were enjoying their orders and looking at the photos.
"These are a riot," Ai said chuckling and took the last bite from the waffle that was all that was left of her soft strawberry ice cream cone.
"Yeah, they're okay" replied Chi, getting ready to leave, and finished the coffee that he had ordered black in one last sip.
"You can have mine too, if you want to. Seems like you need it." Ai said looking at Chi a little longer than usual and pushed her cup that she had left mostly untouched along the table over to him.
"Hey kids! Don't forget to take your photos with you," the clerk called after the kits after they had left. He had gotten out of the kiosk to clean the table the kits had occupied and saw the photos forgotten there. After the two had finished they had already turned the corner and were back on their stroll away from audible range. "These look like they turned out rather well too..."
