"writing": "Joys of the Summer – Chapter Two\n\n\t\tThe next morning, Timothy awoke and covered his eyes to shield them from the sunlight that shone through the window, spilling dazing light across Friendly's bedroom. He sniffled a little as he realized he had wet his goodnite, and turned to face his still-asleep fox friend.\n\"Friendly\" he whimpered into the fox's ear.\nFriendly stirred and turned to face Timothy.\n\"I'm wet\" sniffled Timothy\n\"Awww\" said Friendly, \"Come here. It's okay\"\nFriendly wrapped his arms around the young raccoon and gave him a nuzzle. Timothy sniffled again as he fidgeted, and felt his soaked goodnite rubbing against his fur.\n\"Hey, don't cry, Timothy. It's okay\" said Friendly, checking the front of Timothy's shorts to make sure his goodnite hadn't leaked, and looking a little relieved when his paws came back dry. Timothy hugged Friendly tightly, and a tear fell from one of his hazel eyes, landing on the fox's shoulder. Giving his friend another nuzzle, Friendly threw the covers aside and clambered to his feet. Timothy turned his head and looked at Friendly, his eyes were full of tears.\n\"Come on Timothy, let's get you all cleaned up\" said Friendly, helping the chubby little raccoon out of the bed and into the bathroom.\n\"I'm sorry Friendly\" mumbled Timothy, sadly.\n\"It's okay, you can't help it\" said Friendly, pulling the raccoon's shorts down and revealing his soaked undergarment. Friendly took it off and threw it into the bin, and turned on the shower for Timothy.\n\"There you go, Timothy. Let me know when you're done and I'll dry you\" said Friendly, smiling at his friend.\n\"Thank you, Friendly\" said the raccoon, blushing a little as he got into the shower and closed the door behind him.\n\n\tLater that morning, the two friends made their way down to Jake's house. Timothy had slung the bag containing Collin's shorts on his bike's handlebar, where it swung to-and-fro as he rode along.\n\"We're gonna have so much fun today!\" squeaked the raccoon.\n\"Yes we are\" smiled Friendly, looking down at the raccoon's training wheels that made a dull rattling noise as he rode along the sidewalk.\n\"Maybe we'll see a bus!\" squeaked Timothy, excitedly.\n\"Maybe\" said Friendly, \"Jake's house is right by the bus stop after all\"\n\"Uh-huh!\" said Timothy, back-pedaling to slow his bike down on a short descent.\nIt wasn't long before they arrived at the small, old fashioned wooden house with faded green paint. The friendly German Shepherd was waiting for them, with his brand new, black bike.\n\"Hey Jake!\" squeaked Timothy, as he rode carefully into the driveway and rolled up alongside Jake.\n\"Hi Timothy, hey Friendly\" said Jake, wagging his tail in greeting.\n\"Hi Jake, nice bike!\" said Friendly, \"I've never seen it before\"\n\"Didn't you want to bring your bike?\" asked Jake, tilting his head to one side and perking up his ears.\n\"It's got a puncture, and it needs something else doing to it as well\" sighed Friendly, \"My dad's in England at the moment, so he can't fix it\"\n\"Oh\" said Jake, \"Well, I thought I'd bring this...\" he said, showing Friendly a medium-sized bungy cord with black hooks at either end, \"...in case Timothy or Collin get stuck and need a tow\"\nFriendly chuckled and tickled Jake behind his ear.\n\"Good thinking, Jake\" said the fox, \"Maybe you could bring two of them, then Sarah can help Collin if he gets stuck too\"\nJake nodded and dismounted his bike. Friendly held it for him while he went to find another bungy cord.\nTimothy squeaked with joy as a white, red and black bus with a blue stripe pulled up to the bus stop. \"Look! A bus! A bus!\"\nFriendly grinned at the excitable raccoon and rested Jake's bike on the grass, and then he rolled Timothy's bike onto the grass to prevent it going into the road.\n\"Let's go and see\" said Friendly.\n\n\tTimothy and Friendly walked up to the bus, and Timothy looked up through the big open doors at the front of the bus.\n\"Hi Timothy\" said the bus driver.\n\"Hi Dad!\" squeaked Timothy, smiling with delight.\n\"Hey James\" said Friendly, giving the raccoon a wave.\n\"Did you have fun at Friendly's last night?\" asked James.\n\"Yeah!\" squeaked Timothy, \"We're going to ride in the park with our new friends I told you about!\"\n\"That's great, Timothy\" smiled James, \"I gotta get going though. See you later!\"\n\"Bye, James\" said Friendly, waving as the raccoon closed the doors of his bus and drove away.\nTimothy walked back over to his bike and pulled it back onto the driveway. He got on and started riding around in circles while they waited for Jake to come back.\n\"Friendly, I can't find another one\" sighed Jake, \"The only other one is broken in half\"\n\"It's okay Jake\" said Friendly, \"I'm sure Andrew or Trent can spare a bungy cord for Collin\"\n\"Alright\" said Jake, putting the bungy-cord into his backpack and retrieving his bike.\n\n\tBefore long, the three friends arrived at the townhouse on the corner where Collin and Sarah lived. Waiting outside tending to the rose bush on the corner Trent was bent over in coveralls and work gloves. Trimming loose branches the hare kept the vines from reaching out into the side walk.\n\"Morning boys,\" The hare greeted them as he stood up brushing the dust off his knees, \"It's nice to meet you again\"\n\"Hi Trent\" said Timothy, \"I've brought Collin's shorts back\" he continued, stopping his bike next to the rosebush.\n\"Is Collin ready?\" asked Friendly\n\"He's in the garage with Sarah\" Trent pointed to the side of the house as he took the shorts back, \"His dad's fitting him with a good helmet but he should be ready to go soon\" \n\"Okay, thanks Trent\" said Timothy, he got off his bike and walked it onto the driveway. Friendly and Jake followed him.\n\"Hey Sarah, Hi Collin!\" squeaked Timothy. \nSitting on the corner of the work bench in the garage Collin squirmed as his papa looped the strap of his bike helmet under his chin.\n\"If you keep moving you're going to get some fur caught in it,\" The ferret said as he snapped the hook together. \"Hi boys. Just about ready.\"\nAndy lifted the white furred half-breed off the bench to the floor as Sarah came out of her side of the house.\n\"Timothy, Friendly, Jake,\" The red squirrel tom boy said as she maneuvered her bike out of the corner. \"You ready to eat my dust?\"\n\"You wish\" chuckled Jake, grinning as he sat on his brand new bike.\nFriendly sat next to Andrew.\n\"The path through the woods is muddy in places, and Collin and Timothy might get stuck. Jake's got a bungy cord in his backpack so he can help Timothy out, do you think you could spare one for Collin?\"\n\"I think we got one around here somewhere.\" Andrew said puling open a drawer that held the jeep's snow chains. Pulling out long black rubber band with hooks the ferret handed it over to Friendly. \"Here you go,\" \n\"Thanks Andrew\" said Friendly, \"I'll go and put it in Jake's backpack with the other one\"\n\n\tOver in the other corner Collin pedaled out into the driveway doing little circles around Timothy. \"Know any good spots in the woods for a fort?\" The kit asked wobbling a bit on his training wheels as he made a tight turn.\n\"I don't know\" squeaked Timothy, \"Friendly's never taken me up there before\"\n\"I haven't been there yet ether,\" Collin confessed as he squeezed the hand brakes and came to a halt. \"I got my swimming trunks on, so if there's a stream we can go in it\"\n\"Yay! Me too\" said Timothy, grinning as he looked down at his favorite shorts with orange, white and blue flames.\nRolling up on her bike Sarah had her Brewer's hat on and a fishing pole strung to the back of her bike. \"I'm going to catch dinner for tonight, so make sure you don't scare away the fish if you go swimming\"\n\"Okay, we'll try not to\" said Timothy\n\"Right, are you guys all ready?\" asked Friendly.\n\"Yeah!\" said Timothy\n\"Yep\" said Jake\n\"Lead the way Friendly,\" Sarah said pushing off into the street letting the fox kit take the lead.\n\"All set\" Collin called out pedaling after the red squirrel.\n\"Have fun boys,\" Andrew called out, \"Be back before dark\"\n\"We will\" called Friendly, \"See you later!\"\nTimothy turned his pedals and rode alongside Collin, enjoying the sound of their training wheels rattling along the asphalt together.\n\n\tSoon, the friends all arrived at the park.\n\"Off you go then, I'll catch up with you\" said Friendly.\n\"Yay!\" squeaked Timothy, turning his pedals harder and riding up the dirt path after Jake and Sarah.\nSarah lead the way pumping her legs hard as she rode down the path into the forest. Rolling along at a slower pace Collin maneuvered his bike down the path, sunlight peeking in through the leaves as they went deeper into the woods.\nTimothy rode after Collin, grinning as he caught up with the white kit.\n\"This is fun, isn't it Collin!\" squeaked the raccoon, he pumped his legs harder, grinning as he felt the cool breeze ruffling his thick fur\n\"Maybe we shouldn't ride so fast, Friendly said we had to help Collin and Timothy if they got stuck\" said Jake\nSplashing through a puddle Sarah blew her bangs out of her eyes.\n\"They're not too far back,\" The tom boy looked over her shoulder gauging the kits' progress down the path. Bumping along the trail Collin kept up navigating the root strung path carefully as Sarah turned around and rode back behind her neighbor.\n\"Alright, but I think they should ride in front of us\" said Jake\n\"Timothy where did Friendly go?\" The kit asked as he trucked by looking around for the fox. \"Didn't he want to ride with us?\"\n\"I think he said his bike had something wrong with it, so he'll catch up with us\" said Timothy, grunting as his bike lurched over a tree root.\n\"Uh-oh\" Jake said to Sarah, \"Look\"\nAhead, the path turned into a sloppy, muddy mess as the trees grew thicker overhead. Jake's bike had little trouble with it, he rode through it with ease and stopped on the other side of the mud, removing his helmet and reached inside his backpack as Collin and Timothy came along. Rolling into the mud Collin's back wheel threw up the sticky wet muck as it dug in. Rattling on the sides the training wheels offered little but stability as the kit became stuck.\n\"Ah, help!\" Collin said as he peddled hard spinning in place as Sarah chuckled a little behind her paw. \"I'm not moving\"\n\"Oh no!\" cried Timothy, as his back wheel just spun helplessly in the muck too, kicking up the mud and shooting a trail of slop everywhere.\nJake couldn't help grinning to himself as he watched the two younger kits making their back wheels unintentionally dig up the path.\n\"Collin stop pedaling!\" Sarah cried out as she dodged a splatter of mud and moved in front of the stranded cub, \"You're not going anywhere. Just wait, we have to pull you out\"\nOnce the white kit stopped pumping his pedals the red squirrel moved in hooking the bungee-cord to the frame of Collin's bike. Moving back to her own bike, Sarah waited for her friend to get ready.\n\"At the same time now\" she said to Collin. Both cubs pushed and with the added traction of Sarah's bike Collin was able to pull free of the mud. \n\"Jake, help!\" cried Timothy, \"I'm stuck!\"\n\"I can see\" grinned Jake, standing in front of Timothy's stranded bike and hooking the bungee-cord to the frame of the little red bike and to the frame of his own black bike, under the saddle.\n\"Ready?\" asked Jake\n\"I'm ready!\" squeaked Timothy, pumping his pedals as hard as he could, but only making his back wheel slip and spin in the mud.\nJake turned his pedals too, and it wasn't long before they were free of the mud.\n\"Thanks Jake\" said Timothy, as Jake unhooked the bungee-cord from his bike.\n\"Watch where your going next time,\" Sarah told Collin softly as she wound up the bungee cord and stored it in her back pack, \"Try to avoid puddles, you can't always tell how deep they are.\"\n\"Kay,\" Collin said sheepishly as his ears pinned back a bit, \"Sorry.\" \n\"Don't look so sad, Collin. It's okay. We'll help you if you do get stuck\" said Jake, smiling at the kit and wagging his tail.\nTimothy smiled at Collin. \"I've never been stuck in the mud with someone else before\"\n\"It's not as easy as it looks,\" Collin replied as he moved on slower weaving around puddles to prevent another sticky situation, \"You get stuck a lot Timothy?\"\n\"Uh-huh\" said Timothy, \"Mud, sand, gravel, grass, you name it, I get stuck in it\"\n\"It's alright you two, if you get stuck I'll help you\" said Jake, smiling at them both and chuckling a little. \"Your poor little training wheels are all muddy\"\n\"Should we wash them?\" Collin asked as he looked about for some water that was clean enough to use.\n\"Hehe, I don't know. I think it's kinda cute. Besides, you'll probably get stuck in the mud again anyway\" said Jake\nTimothy smiled. \"But I liked being stuck in the mud with you\"\n\"But we won't get to the river if you get stuck again,\" Sarah said as she rode back up the path, \"Come on, it's not much farther.\"\n\"Yes we will, the river's not going anywhere\" said Jake, grinning as he and Sarah rode over more sloppy mud that was as wide as the whole path. Timothy was the first to ride into it, and his back wheel began to slip and spin in the mud.\n\"Uh-oh!\" he cried, as his training wheels got hung up on the bumps and his bike got really bogged down.\nTimothy, you got stuck!\" Collin called out as he rode by, bumping along before sinking his own rear wheel in a rut, \"AH, now I'm stuck!\" The small mixed bred cried out as he spun his wheel, shooting mud up over his back. \n\"Awww, do you want some help?\" asked Jake, walking back to Collin and putting his paw on Collin's handlebar, smiling as he watched Collin's back wheel just spinning helplessly in the sloppy mess.\n\"Wow... looks like you need some help\" said a familiar voice.\n\"Friendly!\" gasped Timothy, \"I'm stuck!\"\n\"But... how did you catch up to us so fast?!\" barked Jake.\n\"I walk quickly, you of all people should know that\" chuckled Friendly.\n\"Collin, you're such a klutz\" Sarah sighed exasperated as she turned back and came to a halt close by, \"You got to avoid the deep puddles, o.k.\"\n\"Sorry Sarah,\" Collin whined helplessly pedaling and spraying more mud, \"I didn't mean to\"\n\"Come on Sarah, they couldn't avoid this one, the whole path is a muddy mess\" said Jake, \"Don't worry Collin, I'll help you\" he said, pushing on the middle of the handlebar of Collin's bike, but his feet just slipped and slid around.\n\"Friendly, help!\" cried Timothy, as he also pedaled his bike and sprayed mud everywhere.\nSoon, Collin's, Jake's, and Timothy's legs were caked with mud and their clothes were soaked through.\n\"It's no good... they're well and truly stuck this time\" sighed Jake, suddenly slipping up in the mud and yelping as he landed with a loud squelch.\n\"Help, I'm trapped!\" Collin cried out, too scared to get off his bike and get mud all over his white pelt.\n\"Me too! I don't wanna get more muddy!\" cried Timothy\n\"Hang on, you're making it worse\" Sarah sighed, moving into the puddle unperturbed by the muck and held out a hand of Jake, \"You both have to walk your bikes out, it's too deep to ride through\"\n\"Thanks Sarah\" smiled Jake, as the squirrel helped him to his feet.\n\"Don't worry Collin, I'll help you\" said Friendly, smiling at the cub and standing alongside him, where the mud wasn't quite so bad. \"I'll push you out. Ready, one, two, three, go!\" said the fox, pushing the middle of Collin's handlebar with one paw, and gently pushing Collin's butt with his other paw.\nCollin wobbled as his tires came free of the mud with a sucking noise. Once free of the deeper portion the little fox raccoon kit pushed off again, pedaling down the path and wheeling around to wait for the others.\n\"I'll push from behind if you want to pull?\" Sarah offered to Jake as she got behind Timothy and grabbed the back of his bike seat.\n\"Okay\" said Jake, putting his paws on Timothy's handlebars, getting ready to pull the raccoon's stuck bike out of the mud.\n\"Do you want me to help too by pedaling?\" asked Timothy\nFriendly smiled, \"I'll meet you down the path with Collin\" he said\n\"See you there,\" Sarah called to Friendly as she grunted and pushed, \"Slowly Timothy, only if you get some traction or you'll spray mud all over me.\"\n\"Okay...\" said Timothy, as Jake and Sarah pushed and pulled at his bike, and he slowly turned his pedals to try and help them, but his back wheel just wouldn't get enough traction and it could only spin lazily in the mud.\nPushing hard, Sarah rocked Timothy's bike back and forth with Jake wiggling him free until his bike could gain traction. Slipping in the slime the red squirrel girl tripped and fell in the mud, her bushy tail standing up straight as she pushed herself out of the mud.\n\"Thank you!\" squeaked Timothy, as he rode down the path to join Friendly and Collin.\n\"Are you okay, Sarah?\" asked Jake, offering his paw to her.\n\"Yeah, just a little dirty,\" Sarah replied as she shook off the muddy water and returned to her own bike. \"Not much farther now, it will be nice to get into the water\"\n\"Yes, it will. Just so long as their training wheels don't get them stuck in the mud again\" said Jake\n\nUp ahead Collin spun around in lazy loops using the momentum to clean the mud from his spokes and chain. \"My dad would get mad if I turn up all muddy,\" The kit said, making sure his pants weren't too messy, \"Takes forever for my fur to dry after a bath.\" \n\"It's okay Collin, we're going swimming anyway, so it doesn't matter if you get muddy\" said Friendly, smiling as he watched the cub riding around and around. \"But the mud certainly likes to tease you and Timothy, doesn't it?\"\n\"I'm not a really good rider yet ether,\" Collin said a bit dejected, \"Sarah and Jake got through it no problem\"\n\"Don't say that, you're new to riding a bike, but you're as good as Timothy is\" said Friendly, with his paw on Collin's shoulder. \"I'm just glad Timothy's got a new friend who also has training wheels on his bike\" said the fox.\n\"I guess so\" Collin said, not completely convinced as the others rode up.\n\"It's okay Collin\" said Friendly, \"Timothy gets stuck all the time too\"\nTimothy pedaled backwards and came up next to Collin.\n\"What's wrong Collin?\" he asked, seeing the kit looked a little down.\n\"Nuthing,\" Collin said looking down for a second then back at the path, \"Just don't wanna get stuck again\"\n\"I don't either\" said Timothy.\n\"Don't worry boys, I think the path is pretty dry from here to the river\" said Friendly, \"But I'll help you both if you get stuck again\"\n\"Thanks Friendly\" smiled Timothy, turning his pedals and riding in front of the others.\n\"Just a little further guys,\" Sarah said kicking mud off her shoes and pedaling her bike down the path, \"I can hear the river now\"\nSo they all made their way down the path. Timothy and Collin rode in front, Friendly walked along behind them, and Sarah and Jake rode their bikes along behind them, all of them looking forward to taking a dip in the cool water on this hot summers' day.",

He sniffled a little as he realized he had wet his goodnite, and turned to face his still-asleep fox friend.<br />&quot;Friendly&quot; he whimpered into the fox&#039;s ear.<br />Friendly stirred and turned to face Timothy.<br />&quot;I&#039;m wet&quot; sniffled Timothy<br />&quot;Awww&quot; said Friendly, &quot;Come here. It&#039;s okay&quot;<br />Friendly wrapped his arms around the young raccoon and gave him a nuzzle. Timothy sniffled again as he fidgeted, and felt his soaked goodnite rubbing against his fur.<br />&quot;Hey, don&#039;t cry, Timothy. It&#039;s okay&quot; said Friendly, checking the front of Timothy&#039;s shorts to make sure his goodnite hadn&#039;t leaked, and looking a little relieved when his paws came back dry. Timothy hugged Friendly tightly, and a tear fell from one of his hazel eyes, landing on the fox&#039;s shoulder. Giving his friend another nuzzle, Friendly threw the covers aside and clambered to his feet. Timothy turned his head and looked at Friendly, his eyes were full of tears.<br />&quot;Come on Timothy, let&#039;s get you all cleaned up&quot; said Friendly, helping the chubby little raccoon out of the bed and into the bathroom.<br />&quot;I&#039;m sorry Friendly&quot; mumbled Timothy, sadly.<br />&quot;It&#039;s okay, you can&#039;t help it&quot; said Friendly, pulling the raccoon&#039;s shorts down and revealing his soaked undergarment. Friendly took it off and threw it into the bin, and turned on the shower for Timothy.<br />&quot;There you go, Timothy. Let me know when you&#039;re done and I&#039;ll dry you&quot; said Friendly, smiling at his friend.<br />&quot;Thank you, Friendly&quot; said the raccoon, blushing a little as he got into the shower and closed the door behind him.<br /><br />\tLater that morning, the two friends made their way down to Jake&#039;s house. Timothy had slung the bag containing Collin&#039;s shorts on his bike&#039;s handlebar, where it swung to-and-fro as he rode along.<br />&quot;We&#039;re gonna have so much fun today!&quot; squeaked the raccoon.<br />&quot;Yes we are&quot; smiled Friendly, looking down at the raccoon&#039;s training wheels that made a dull rattling noise as he rode along the sidewalk.<br />&quot;Maybe we&#039;ll see a bus!&quot; squeaked Timothy, excitedly.<br />&quot;Maybe&quot; said Friendly, &quot;Jake&#039;s house is right by the bus stop after all&quot;<br />&quot;Uh-huh!&quot; said Timothy, back-pedaling to slow his bike down on a short descent.<br />It wasn&#039;t long before they arrived at the small, old fashioned wooden house with faded green paint. The friendly German Shepherd was waiting for them, with his brand new, black bike.<br />&quot;Hey Jake!&quot; squeaked Timothy, as he rode carefully into the driveway and rolled up alongside Jake.<br />&quot;Hi Timothy, hey Friendly&quot; said Jake, wagging his tail in greeting.<br />&quot;Hi Jake, nice bike!&quot; said Friendly, &quot;I&#039;ve never seen it before&quot;<br />&quot;Didn&#039;t you want to bring your bike?&quot; asked Jake, tilting his head to one side and perking up his ears.<br />&quot;It&#039;s got a puncture, and it needs something else doing to it as well&quot; sighed Friendly, &quot; My dad&#039;s in England at the moment, so he can&#039;t fix it&quot;<br />&quot;Oh&quot; said Jake, &quot;Well, I thought I&#039;d bring this...&quot; he said, showing Friendly a medium-sized bungy cord with black hooks at either end, &quot;...in case Timothy or Collin get stuck and need a tow&quot;<br />Friendly chuckled and tickled Jake behind his ear.<br />&quot;Good thinking, Jake&quot; said the fox, &quot;Maybe you could bring two of them, then Sarah can help Collin if he gets stuck too&quot;<br />Jake nodded and dismounted his bike. Friendly held it for him while he went to find another bungy cord.<br />Timothy squeaked with joy as a white, red and black bus with a blue stripe pulled up to the bus stop. &quot;Look! A bus! A bus!&quot;<br />Friendly grinned at the excitable raccoon and rested Jake&#039;s bike on the grass, and then he rolled Timothy&#039;s bike onto the grass to prevent it going into the road.<br />&quot;Let&#039;s go and see&quot; said Friendly.<br /><br />\tTimothy and Friendly walked up to the bus, and Timothy looked up through the big open doors at the front of the bus.<br />&quot;Hi Timothy&quot; said the bus driver.<br />&quot;Hi Dad!&quot; squeaked Timothy, smiling with delight.<br />&quot;Hey James&quot; said Friendly, giving the raccoon a wave.<br />&quot;Did you have fun at Friendly&#039;s last night?&quot; asked James.<br />&quot;Yeah!&quot; squeaked Timothy, &quot;We&#039;re going to ride in the park with our new friends I told you about!&quot;<br />&quot;That&#039;s great, Timothy&quot; smiled James, &quot;I gotta get going though. See you later!&quot;<br />&quot;Bye, James&quot; said Friendly, waving as the raccoon closed the doors of his bus and drove away.<br />Timothy walked back over to his bike and pulled it back onto the driveway. He got on and started riding around in circles while they waited for Jake to come back.<br />&quot;Friendly, I can&#039;t find another one&quot; sighed Jake, &quot; The only other one is broken in half&quot;<br />&quot;It&#039;s okay Jake&quot; said Friendly, &quot;I&#039;m sure Andrew or Trent can spare a bungy cord for Collin&quot;<br />&quot;Alright&quot; said Jake, putting the bungy-cord into his backpack and retrieving his bike.<br /><br />\tBefore long, the three friends arrived at the townhouse on the corner where Collin and Sarah lived. Waiting outside tending to the rose bush on the corner Trent was bent over in coveralls and work gloves. Trimming loose branches the hare kept the vines from reaching out into the side walk.<br />&quot;Morning boys,&quot; The hare greeted them as he stood up brushing the dust off his knees, &quot;It&#039;s nice to meet you again&quot;<br />&quot;Hi Trent&quot; said Timothy, &quot;I&#039;ve brought Collin&#039;s shorts back&quot; he continued, stopping his bike next to the rosebush.<br />&quot;Is Collin ready?&quot; asked Friendly<br />&quot;He&#039;s in the garage with Sarah&quot; Trent pointed to the side of the house as he took the shorts back, &quot; His dad&#039;s fitting him with a good helmet but he should be ready to go soon&quot; <br />&quot;Okay, thanks Trent&quot; said Timothy, he got off his bike and walked it onto the driveway. Friendly and Jake followed him.<br />&quot;Hey Sarah, Hi Collin!&quot; squeaked Timothy. <br />Sitting on the corner of the work bench in the garage Collin squirmed as his papa looped the strap of his bike helmet under his chin.<br />&quot;If you keep moving you&#039;re going to get some fur caught in it,&quot; The ferret said as he snapped the hook together. &quot;Hi boys. Just about ready.&quot;<br />Andy lifted the white furred half-breed off the bench to the floor as Sarah came out of her side of the house.<br />&quot;Timothy, Friendly, Jake,&quot; The red squirrel tom boy said as she maneuvered her bike out of the corner. &quot; You ready to eat my dust?&quot;<br />&quot;You wish&quot; chuckled Jake, grinning as he sat on his brand new bike.<br />Friendly sat next to Andrew.<br />&quot;The path through the woods is muddy in places, and Collin and Timothy might get stuck. Jake&#039;s got a bungy cord in his backpack so he can help Timothy out, do you think you could spare one for Collin?&quot;<br />&quot;I think we got one around here somewhere.&quot; Andrew said puling open a drawer that held the jeep&#039;s snow chains. Pulling out long black rubber band with hooks the ferret handed it over to Friendly. &quot; Here you go,&quot; <br />&quot;Thanks Andrew&quot; said Friendly, &quot;I&#039;ll go and put it in Jake&#039;s backpack with the other one&quot;<br /><br />\tOver in the other corner Collin pedaled out into the driveway doing little circles around Timothy. &quot;Know any good spots in the woods for a fort?&quot; The kit asked wobbling a bit on his training wheels as he made a tight turn.<br />&quot;I don&#039;t know&quot; squeaked Timothy, &quot;Friendly&#039;s never taken me up there before&quot;<br />&quot;I haven&#039;t been there yet ether,&quot; Collin confessed as he squeezed the hand brakes and came to a halt. &quot;I got my swimming trunks on, so if there&#039;s a stream we can go in it&quot;<br />&quot;Yay! Me too&quot; said Timothy, grinning as he looked down at his favorite shorts with orange, white and blue flames.<br />Rolling up on her bike Sarah had her Brewer&#039;s hat on and a fishing pole strung to the back of her bike. &quot;I&#039;m going to catch dinner for tonight, so make sure you don&#039;t scare away the fish if you go swimming&quot;<br />&quot;Okay, we&#039;ll try not to&quot; said Timothy<br />&quot;Right, are you guys all ready?&quot; asked Friendly.<br />&quot;Yeah!&quot; said Timothy<br />&quot;Yep&quot; said Jake<br />&quot;Lead the way Friendly,&quot; Sarah said pushing off into the street letting the fox kit take the lead.<br />&quot;All set&quot; Collin called out pedaling after the red squirrel.<br />&quot;Have fun boys,&quot; Andrew called out, &quot;Be back before dark&quot;<br />&quot;We will&quot; called Friendly, &quot;See you later!&quot;<br />Timothy turned his pedals and rode alongside Collin, enjoying the sound of their training wheels rattling along the asphalt together.<br /><br />\tSoon, the friends all arrived at the park.<br />&quot;Off you go then, I&#039;ll catch up with you&quot; said Friendly.<br />&quot;Yay!&quot; squeaked Timothy, turning his pedals harder and riding up the dirt path after Jake and Sarah.<br />Sarah lead the way pumping her legs hard as she rode down the path into the forest. Rolling along at a slower pace Collin maneuvered his bike down the path, sunlight peeking in through the leaves as they went deeper into the woods.<br />Timothy rode after Collin, grinning as he caught up with the white kit.<br />&quot;This is fun, isn&#039;t it Collin!&quot; squeaked the raccoon, he pumped his legs harder, grinning as he felt the cool breeze ruffling his thick fur<br />&quot;Maybe we shouldn&#039;t ride so fast, Friendly said we had to help Collin and Timothy if they got stuck&quot; said Jake<br />Splashing through a puddle Sarah blew her bangs out of her eyes.<br />&quot;They&#039;re not too far back,&quot; The tom boy looked over her shoulder gauging the kits&#039; progress down the path. Bumping along the trail Collin kept up navigating the root strung path carefully as Sarah turned around and rode back behind her neighbor.<br />&quot;Alright, but I think they should ride in front of us&quot; said Jake<br />&quot;Timothy where did Friendly go?&quot; The kit asked as he trucked by looking around for the fox. &quot;Didn&#039;t he want to ride with us?&quot;<br />&quot;I think he said his bike had something wrong with it, so he&#039;ll catch up with us&quot; said Timothy, grunting as his bike lurched over a tree root.<br />&quot;Uh-oh&quot; Jake said to Sarah, &quot;Look&quot;<br />Ahead, the path turned into a sloppy, muddy mess as the trees grew thicker overhead. Jake&#039;s bike had little trouble with it, he rode through it with ease and stopped on the other side of the mud, removing his helmet and reached inside his backpack as Collin and Timothy came along. Rolling into the mud Collin&#039;s back wheel threw up the sticky wet muck as it dug in. Rattling on the sides the training wheels offered little but stability as the kit became stuck.<br />&quot;Ah, help!&quot; Collin said as he peddled hard spinning in place as Sarah chuckled a little behind her paw. &quot;I&#039;m not moving&quot;<br />&quot;Oh no!&quot; cried Timothy, as his back wheel just spun helplessly in the muck too, kicking up the mud and shooting a trail of slop everywhere.<br />Jake couldn&#039;t help grinning to himself as he watched the two younger kits making their back wheels unintentionally dig up the path.<br />&quot;Collin stop pedaling!&quot; Sarah cried out as she dodged a splatter of mud and moved in front of the stranded cub, &quot;You&#039;re not going anywhere. Just wait, we have to pull you out&quot;<br />Once the white kit stopped pumping his pedals the red squirrel moved in hooking the bungee-cord to the frame of Collin&#039;s bike. Moving back to her own bike, Sarah waited for her friend to get ready.<br />&quot;At the same time now&quot; she said to Collin. Both cubs pushed and with the added traction of Sarah&#039;s bike Collin was able to pull free of the mud. <br />&quot;Jake, help!&quot; cried Timothy, &quot;I&#039;m stuck!&quot;<br />&quot;I can see&quot; grinned Jake, standing in front of Timothy&#039;s stranded bike and hooking the bungee-cord to the frame of the little red bike and to the frame of his own black bike, under the saddle.<br />&quot;Ready?&quot; asked Jake<br />&quot;I&#039;m ready!&quot; squeaked Timothy, pumping his pedals as hard as he could, but only making his back wheel slip and spin in the mud.<br />Jake turned his pedals too, and it wasn&#039;t long before they were free of the mud.<br />&quot;Thanks Jake&quot; said Timothy, as Jake unhooked the bungee-cord from his bike.<br />&quot;Watch where your going next time,&quot; Sarah told Collin softly as she wound up the bungee cord and stored it in her back pack, &quot;Try to avoid puddles, you can&#039;t always tell how deep they are.&quot;<br />&quot;Kay,&quot; Collin said sheepishly as his ears pinned back a bit, &quot;Sorry.&quot; <br />&quot;Don&#039;t look so sad, Collin. It&#039;s okay. We&#039;ll help you if you do get stuck&quot; said Jake, smiling at the kit and wagging his tail.<br />Timothy smiled at Collin. &quot;I&#039;ve never been stuck in the mud with someone else before&quot;<br />&quot;It&#039;s not as easy as it looks,&quot; Collin replied as he moved on slower weaving around puddles to prevent another sticky situation, &quot; You get stuck a lot Timothy?&quot;<br />&quot;Uh-huh&quot; said Timothy, &quot;Mud, sand, gravel, grass, you name it, I get stuck in it&quot;<br />&quot;It&#039;s alright you two, if you get stuck I&#039;ll help you&quot; said Jake, smiling at them both and chuckling a little. &quot;Your poor little training wheels are all muddy&quot;<br />&quot;Should we wash them?&quot; Collin asked as he looked about for some water that was clean enough to use.<br />&quot;Hehe, I don&#039;t know.
