"description": "The remaining three cubs' time in the dungeon had all the hallmarks of psychological torture: no engagement, no way out, and one of their number just gone.\n\nAnd of course the whole getting to watch their friend being raped and murdered, however 'gently'.\n\nBut they had found comfort in each-other, hadn't they? So that was something! How much good it did in buffering them against the impact of fear and trauma the audience would have to wait and see. Connie aside - what was she experiencing, between the sadness of departing friends and the elation of getting to go all the way with her remaining comrades?\n\nDaniel's searching for an orb did not bear fruit, but Pity's did! Even if touching the item did make it disappear - hopefully a registered find.\n\nAt least one psychological abuse was spared the group, if the three of three of them could knock together enough intellect to realize that days' passing could be judged by their magic campfire pot providing food. But that only meant that they could tell when the next challenge was due, and when the day came...\n\n\n \t\n[t]The Tenth Challenge[/t]\n\nHad the cubs noticed the increased liberties that the producers were willing to take? There was no warning beyond the cubs' own judgement, with the three of them being blipped out of their shared dungeon and into a space so different, it might be momentarily dazzling.\n\nIndoors, and separated, yes, but each cub found themselves in a high-ceilinged chamber made from polished white marble, the air clear and bright with rays of sun streaming through whited out windows high above. And then the low woosh of something sweeping the air ever so close -\n\n\nMetal rings. Not only was each of them in a chamber of their own, but they each found themselves, in whatever position they had been on getting snagged, in the center of a circle cut into the smooth marble floor. Through that circle swept three rings made from brightly polished metal, turning end over end; a gyroscope.\n\nThere was no visible mechanism, but the rules of the game ought be immediately clear. Outside the rotating, hemispherical cage was a marble trough, and inside, with the unlucky cub, was a pedestal topped with a single, glowing sphere the size of a tennis ball.\n\nIt wouldn't even be difficult! The size of the rings, and the sound as they cut through the air, certainly indicated that they had weight, but the motion was so slow that whenever the trio went to move, judging the timing was barely any effort at all. Drop the sphere into the trough, glance back... and there was another sphere atop the pedestal. Daniel, Pity, and Connie need only go back, retrieve the sphere, and score another point!\n\nTwo points each, and the realization that the rings had begun to spin somewhat faster, albeit still clearly very manageable! Pity had fetched out a third spherical token, as had Daniel. Connie had had the same plan right up until she got overconfident, clipped a ring with her foot - and the token disappeared from her paw.\n\nAnd so the next attempt, and gosh but those rings were turning end over end quick enough to look a bit intimidating now. But Pity did it! Nipped in between the rings, and out with her fourth token! Daniel, also, managed not to be intimidated and whap. And that hurt! It hurt and the rings were going faster! Apparently the stakes didn't matter, not to a barely-past-toddler who, after everything he'd been through, had just been struck by something with inertia enough that his paw was going to bruise quite badly.\n\nAnd poor Connie got the same again! This time, the blow to her leg on the way out not only cost her a token, it also really hurt! Maybe it was all the... 'fun' she was used to having, though? But either way, the chee' wasn't about to quit! Back in she went for another go and whap. Another blow, the rings fast enough now as to feel how close that had been to a broken arm. Connie, also, got the message and didn't risk the sphere again.\n\nUnlike Pity. Pity was... getting into it? In and out, despite the intimidating rush of air with ever sweep of the rings! And again after that, to drop her fifth token into the trough and return for a sixth even\n\ncrunch.\n\nApparently taking the edge of a heavy, fast moving ring of metal to the head was not quite enough to cave in a skull, but it was absolutely enough for a fracture, and a tweenager to be knocked down stunned and into the path of another. The coyote would have just long enough to register both her sixth token disappearing, and the next ring effectively scissoring down at where she had fallen and then black.\n\n \t\n\nWhen the three cubs were blipped back to camp, the environment had changed once more, and *Minerva was waiting for them. And while she smiled, her eyes did have the look of an artificial intelligence that had just watched one of its wards get her skull crushed in the turning of a gyroscope.\n\nInstead of the gloomy, cramped dungeon in which they had been imprisoned the past several nights? Now, the three remaining cubs were in a space that had inherited its marble finery from the challenge rooms. It was bright, and while somewhat sterile, there was still the sunlight from above, and their tents had reappeared - including Petal's, empty but for that monster plushy she had found for herself early on.\n\nAll along the walls were statues, white marble too, in so many different and oftentimes fantastic situations and poses. Each was the height of a grown adult, too, and whole tiers of them one atop the other to the first vaults of the distant ceiling! And in the center of the room, glimmering in the rays of sun from the white-bright windows high above, was a circular pool of clear, clean water: it would have been knee deep for an adult.\n\nThe space even had three, circular grooves in the floor, as if they had been here together for the challenge! One of the etched rings even had an unpleasant-looking, red-unto-black stain splashed across one section.\n\nAll three were hale again, at least! Bruises that had hampered efforts were gone, and Pity once again had an intact skull!\n\n\"Well done,\" *Minerva, putting on her best deliberate smile once again. \"Connie, you tried very hard - you scored two points. Daniel, you scored three points.\"\n\nAt which point *Minerva turned to look at Pity, and then after just a small pause, \"Pity? You scored five points... but you did not know when to stop. When your mistake came, it did not just hurt as it did for Daniel and Connie, and so your score was not counted. I am sorry.\"\n\nFor once, the numbers did not come as the scores were read, but rather simultaneously - the white +1 for Daniel, and the black -1 for Pity.\n\n\"But! You did find an orb. To open it, please tell me...\"\n\n(Please see Here below for your question and opportunity to answer!)\n\n\"The game is almost over. Pity, Daniel, Connie, you have been very brave. I will return to tell you who will participate in the final challenge shortly.\n\n\"Take a little time to rest, there will not be a choice of symbol this time.\"\n\nAnd with that, *Minerva gave a bow, and was gone.\n\n<Please roleplay responses by replying to the appropriate ‘Reactions’ comment below! I intend to post the next prompt either Friday or Sunday coming. Apologies, while there would normally only be a couple of days' wait, this week looks to be monstrously busy.>\n\n \n\n(Summary/Key points:\n - Everyone woke up, each 'trapped' inside a gyroscope-cage of rings turning end over end. Escape\n was easy, but points clearly scored by going back to retrieve tokens as the rings span ever faster.\n - The scores were 5, 2, 3, across Pity, Connie, and Daniel, with Connie persisting but failing\n repeatedly after the first two goes, and Daniel giving up after being hurt after his third success\n \n Pity, however, kept on going, failing to judge when to stop. When her mistake came, the sheer speed\n of the rings caught her by surprise and 'killed' her, invalidating her score.\n \n Daniel won, Pity lost.\n - Your new surroundings are a big, grand, marble hall! Tiers of grown-up height statues in all kinds of\n different poses and situations, many of them unlikely or fantastic. The ceiling is vaulted, above the\n highest - fourth - tier of statuary.\n - Your tents and other campsite accoutrements are back, plus Petal's abandoned one. It was bright, and while somewhat sterile, there was still the sunlight from above, and their tents had reappeared - including Petal's, empty but for that monster plushy she had found for herself early on.

All along the walls were statues, white marble too, in so many different and oftentimes fantastic situations and poses. Each was the height of a grown adult, too, and whole tiers of them one atop the other to the first vaults of the distant ceiling! And in the center of the room, glimmering in the rays of sun from the white-bright windows high above, was a circular pool of clear, clean water: it would have been knee deep for an adult.

The space even had three, circular grooves in the floor, as if they had been here together for the challenge! One of the etched rings even had an unpleasant-looking, red-unto-black stain splashed across one section.

All three were hale again, at least! Bruises that had hampered efforts were gone, and Pity once again had an intact skull!

"Well done," *Minerva, putting on her best deliberate smile once again. "Connie, you tried very hard - you scored two points. Daniel, you scored three points."

At which point *Minerva turned to look at Pity, and then after just a small pause, "Pity? You scored five points... but you did not know when to stop. When your mistake came, it did not just hurt as it did for Daniel and Connie, and so your score was not counted. I am sorry."

For once, the numbers did not come as the scores were read, but rather simultaneously - the white +1 for Daniel, and the black -1 for Pity.

"But! You did find an orb. To open it, please tell me..."

(Please see Here below for your question and opportunity to answer!)

"The game is almost over. Pity, Daniel, Connie, you have been very brave. I will return to tell you who will participate in the final challenge shortly.

"Take a little time to rest, there will not be a choice of symbol this time."

And with that, *Minerva gave a bow, and was gone.

<Please roleplay responses by replying to the appropriate ‘Reactions’ comment below! I intend to post the next prompt either Friday or Sunday coming. Apologies, while there would normally only be a couple of days' wait, this week looks to be monstrously busy.>

(Summary/Key points:
- Everyone woke up, each 'trapped' inside a gyroscope-cage of rings turning end over end. Escape
was easy, but points clearly scored by going back to retrieve tokens as the rings span ever faster.
- The scores were 5, 2, 3, across Pity, Connie, and Daniel, with Connie persisting but failing
repeatedly after the first two goes, and Daniel giving up after being hurt after his third success

Pity, however, kept on going, failing to judge when to stop. When her mistake came, the sheer speed
of the rings caught her by surprise and 'killed' her, invalidating her score.

   Daniel won, Pity lost.
- Your new surroundings are a big, grand, marble hall! Tiers of grown-up height statues in all kinds of
different poses and situations, many of them unlikely or fantastic. The ceiling is vaulted, above the
highest - fourth - tier of statuary.
- Your tents and other campsite accoutrements are back, plus Petal's abandoned one. A pool of clear,
still water, knee deep to an adult, is in the middle of the chamber.
- The finale is coming, no symbol choice this week.

Remaining Cubs
\r\n\t\t\t\t\t\t
\r\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t
\r\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t
\r\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t

\r\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t
\r\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t
\r\n\t\t\t\t\t\t
\r\n\t\t\t\t\t\t (Connie)
\r\n\t\t\t\t\t\t
\r\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t
\r\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t
\r\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t

\r\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t
\r\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t
\r\n\t\t\t\t\t\t
\r\n\t\t\t\t\t\t (Daniel)
\r\n\t\t\t\t\t\t
\r\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t
\r\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t
\r\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t

\r\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t
\r\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t
\r\n\t\t\t\t\t\t
\r\n\t\t\t\t\t\t (Pity)

- Cub reactions Here
- Predator reactions Here
- Orb question Here
- Audience reactions Here

<--- to the previous prompt | to Labyrinth of Twilight Details/Index | to the next prompt --->
",
