That was the only explanation for why none of the usual niceties were observed.\n\nNo *Minerva or Cybele. No goodbyes or life point totalling. Just cubs, whatever they might have been doing, suffering that same sensation of perception rushing in and...\n\nWell, Josephine had been keeping to herself, even before the trauma of earning the record for most-cubs-drowned-in-the-span-of-two-minutes. So it was perhaps no wonder nobody noticed her having been taken at some point between everyone's last confirmed sighting at the weekly summary and, well... now.\n\nBut there she was, filling the vision of each cub all of a sudden. Still wearing that dancer's class outfit she'd had on arrival, all drapes of not-quite-translucent red cloth accented, affixed, and held together with gold. Back at the beginning it had looked elegant, if revealing. Now it just looked lewd, in no small part thanks to damage that had torn away anything covered her crotch, with the remains just framing that used-sore looking, puffy little white-furred slit. The strip of cloth had covered her chest was gone as well, with only the golden chains draped around her torso serving to accent.\n\nAt least she couldn't be chilly: she was back in that stone-walled dungeon space, with its various torches and candles burning all around for light. Only difference was, the RPG-ish instruments of torture were no longer arrayed against the walls. Instead they stood free, surrounding the little girl. Some might even have looked... used. And that setting aside the anachronism: racks, gallows, pears, scolds were mixed casually with big, glass tanks, wired metal chairs, racks of tools (powered and otherwise) and shelves of brightly colored sex and sadism toys.\n\nThe ominous arrangement would have been inescapable, even if the incorporeal viewers hadn't already been conditioned to read everything about this situation as screaming 'Elimination'.\n\nFifi was seated, although that was no comfort. The contraption was an uncomfortable -| shape constructed from wood, the pretty little skunk girl forced to choose between balancing with her thighs tight together or letting the hard-edged, square-shaped, horizontal length of wood go from a crude seat to jabbing up between her thighs as it kept her just a bit too high to properly reach the stone floor with her toes. Her 'backrest' was a simple upright much the same, and, ensuring she remained a part of the arrangement, her wrists were bound behind her and the post by a pair of chain-linked manacles.\n\nAnd just to complete the arrangement? A little block of wood through the backrest, jabbed into her back to ensure a slightly bent-backed posture, showing off the naked little skunk's body all the better for everyone viewing. And let's not forget the loop of that same rope from the last two challenges, only now, looped around her neck. Or the level-with-same handle on the other side of the post.\n\n\nNothing happened, for the moment. Even Fifi seemed to have been muted, making sure a perhaps-unexpected, disembodied male voice could be clearly heard.\n\n\"I don't know if you little brats thought the city meant you were safe or something, but everyone up here watching your little 'adventure's been getting a bit pissed off with your whole 'work together' thing. And all this crap about 'giving the grown-ups what they want' and 'getting kept'? Yeah that's just your slut 'yote's craving for bunny dick.\"\n\n\"Well, farbeit for us to leave you kids without something to learn.\"\n\nHowever Fifi might have been struggling in the background, the shared perception temporarily focused on the other figure in the chamber: a feline, also with black fur and white markings though nothing like the imperilled little dancer. Naked, probably post-'fun', albeit still wearing arm-wraps and boots.\n\n\"We want to see you scared,\" the voice went on, \"Your adoring 'fans' are paying to watch the meat struggle for their lives, and can't wait to see what happens to the drop-outs. This 'being kept alive' shit? Don't count on it. We've decided your little friend 'won that last game will be just perfect for our example.\n\n\"Fitch? Feel free.\"\n\nThe perception dropped from the waiting cat, focusing on Fifi as the little girl tried to glance over her shoulder as the cat that stepped up behind her and her seat, took ahold of the handle across the post from her neck...\n\nAnd cranked.\n\nThe effect was immediate. The rope that had until now merely served to keep Fifi's back against the upright, in spite of that uncomfortable block jabbing just above her tail, went taut. And then immediately after that, shrank.\n\nLittle black and white furred girl instantly trying, uselessly, to struggle. Writhing and promptly losing balance on the crossbar, the hard edges jamming into her thighs even as little feet kicked below. Squirming had the block screwing into her spine above her tail, even before 'Fitch' cranked the handle again, added a new twist to the rope ran between it and Fifi's neck.\n\nThe sound was back, of course. Now everyone watching had the opportunity to listen to the sounds of the panicking little skunk as she rasped breaths past the rope already dug into her neck. The rope creaked as Fifi was tugged ever more mercilessly back against the post, eyes huge while she worked desperately for some vain hope of freedom. Thrashing had the manacle chains fair shaving against the back of the post, and the way she was raking her legs and crotch back and forth against the horizontal... if there wasn't blood already, it would not be long.\n\nAnother turn, and Fifi could no longer close her mouth. Little pink tongue poking out as she emitted tiny, high pitched noises in her efforts to steal even a little breath, all to no avail. Not with the way the rope had dug a visible inch-and-a-bit into her neck.\n\nAlready, even if the feline stopped right this second, Fifi was probably doomed. No cub's neck was supposed to have a divot like that, indicating where the rope had already crushed her windpipe.\n\nHuge, pretty eyes turned on the viewpoint, even if they were bloodshot by now, all while Fifi's struggles grew increasingly frantic. What little restraint had been present to manage the pain of the block and her 'seat', it was gone now, and she was thrashing so hard that blood had to be quickly staining the wood on which Fifi was thrashing.\n\n\"Sorry you didn't get to see your friend off, this time. 'Tell you what, why don't you blame your little friend Jake? Putting us onto any little plans to cooperate was just the most useful thing he could have done.\"\n\nMeanwhile, Fifi's movements weren't thrashing anymore, just sharp, jerking bucks of her contorted body as she tried, and tried and tried for air and...\n\n\"Byyye Fifiii,\" the cruel voice. Just in time for the group to hear the most horrendous series of crunches, watch Fifi go rigid, a little stream of clear yellow pitter-pattering down onto the bloodied crossbar seat... and then slack.\n\nAnd then the cat looked up at the viewpoint from his dead victim and spoke for the first time. \"Oh yeah, that *Minerva vix' had a message for you kids. What was it again...\"\n\nThe cat pantomimed thoughtfulness, and then similarly played up remembering.\n\n\"Oh, yeah, that was it!\" he grinned.\n\n\"Run.\"\n\n\nThe low, distant, terrifically heavy-sounding bang that accompanied the retreat of the vision fit so neatly, it might well feel like it had been that that pulled the cubs back to reality. A reality which they all shared, having apparently, yet again, been gathered up and displaced in whatever state they had been until Josephine's big moment.\n\nWhatever that other symbol had been, this one apparently was incompatible with the city setting: they were once more beneath the ground. Gone were all the buildings of the various districts, the amenities, their inn. In its place was a long, wide, mostly circular tunnel of pale grey stone, threaded by a long and largely straight path. Either side of which was the black of an indeterminate drop.\n\nReally it was quite unrealistic, if fairly impressive-looking. The only touches made it look natural were the ragged edges and here-and-there unevenness of the path, and the interspersed ledges and even occasional, solitary stone pillars rising up out of the black beside.\n\nThe silence after that first noise, while it had not repeated, was slowly replaced with a low rumbling that only grew louder and louder. And while the tunnel stretched in either direction, this new sound came from behind, and it would only take a glance back to realise that the end of the passage behind them was rushing up after them, almost as if it were being occluded by some great, rolling...\n\nBoulder.\n\nAnother concession to gameplay that nobody would be advised to stand around complaining about: that boulder was far-too-neat a fit for the width of the tunnel, thus to keep it from tumbling off the path and saving them all.\n\nAnd really, between the warning and the dirty great rock storming towards them, nobody had cause to dither in confusion. Heck, it would only take one quick-witted cub to shout, \"RUN!\" and not a one of them would be sticking around to examine that oncoming rock close up.\n\n \t\n[t]The Fifth Challenge[/t]\n\nMuch like the valley, this one was going to be a straight run. At least this time, the terrain was only a little uneven, and there was no seismic event to unsettle anyone's footing. It didn't even look like it would be a long one! A mere fifty or so feet down the slope, and there was a clear bend in the stone path where the tunnel opened up, and over which that boulder would have no choice but to plummet away.\n\nDifference from the valley being, now they really couldn't help one another: that boulder was far too close and unforgiving, demanding a sprint rather than a long, steady race. And most of the cubs stayed close together, too! Only Ash and Connie bolted forward with any real speed, while the rest of the gang stayed fairly close together on their way down the still perilous-looking slope.\n\nSome would draw ahead: Petal, Jacob, Daniel, only to be overtaken ever so slightly by Pity, who even briefly drew level with Ash and Connie before she began to lose pace and slide back toward that boulder as it trundled implacably after the group.\n\nWhile Connie and Ash drew ahead all the more, with Jake barely behind and Skylar behind with the 'ball' almost nipping at his heels, Daniel having caught a burst of speed that he could apparently ill-maintain...\n\nPity spied her chance.\n\nMost unbelievably, the 'yote didn't use that opportunity for sabotage! And that despite the fact Daniel had been right there, ripe to trip as he slid behind.\n\nWho knows; he too might have seen the chance - or, rather, he had! And might even have gone for it alone! But next thing he knew there was Pity's paw clamped around his arm, the little boy was yanked off his feet, and then Pity leapt.\n\nQuite of a sudden, and after a split second of seeming like Pity had thrown them both to their doom, there'd be the uncomfortable impact of stone as Pity managed to leap to safety! A happy recess in the tunnel wall, just large enough for a pair of cubs so long as the leaper didn't mess up the landing.\n\nAnd she hadn't! So there they were, safe in the nook as the boulder fair roared by after their friends, and all the duo could do was watch! And without panic the jump would no longer even seem that far, enabling a hop back and a cautious but leisurely pursuit of the others. Well, unless they cared to give chase anyway.\n\nSadly nobody else saw a similar opportunity, and the race continued apace on the other side of the boulder!\n\nSkylar sadly still lagged behind, although those powerful legs would nonetheless never allow her to slide terribly far back from the rest of the party. Connie, Ash, and Jacob remained up front by an increasing distance, with Petal and Poly running together and none too far behind.\n\nOf course it would be Connie who found a way to sabotage what looked like a steady hope for everyone making it to the end, even if only herself.\n\nMaybe it was inspired by Pity and Jacob, maybe she saw a chance on her own, but either way the 'chee abruptly hurled herself from the path and toward a flat-topped pillar of stone - she even landed it! But that only meant absolutely no-one was there to help her when she failed to arrest her momentum.\n\nNor was there a wall to allow herself to slam into, as there had been for Jacob and Pity. So those far enough behind to watch - in that moment Petal, Skylar, and Poly - could only observe as the cheetah girl fell away into the black. Pity and Jacob would get to see it too! In fact, they would get a great view as Connie emerged from behind the enormous, rolling stone in a graceful leap... and then plummeted.\n\nJust what she'd find down there was anyone's guess - maybe it would just go on forever! Or maybe Connie was about to experience something very similar to what Pity had in the aftermath of everyone finding out about all the fun she had shared with her uncle.\n\n(([icon]PaydayWolf[/icon] Connie, I will leave the gratuity of your temporary doom up to you to describe in your response!))\n\nNo time to mourn, of course. Besides they all probably knew by now that losing Connie would only be temporary, at least for a day or two if that botched escape had sealed her fate.\n\nIt was not far to the end, but the last stretch could not have been any less gruelling. Still, one by one the party began to reach safety, with nobody failing to make the final turn that would take them out of the boulder's path!\n\nAsh was the first safe, and she made it with time enough to spare that she could play Connie's role from that valley run, shouting encouragement to her friends! Even Jake had slipped behind her a little, making the subsequent arrivals almost a smooth 1, 2, 3 of Jake, Poly, and then Skylar, who had finally found her pace and gotten a comfortable lead on the abominable rock! And then Petal, not all that far behind, but still only just around the curve before the enormous stone rushed by in a roar of noise and dust to plumet over the edge and away to... nothing. The drop must have been a long, long way. Did that mean Connie was still falling?\n\nAt least with the rock out of the way, Pity and Daniel were able to catch up in turn, rejoining the group and leaving the party with nothing to do but trudge on. Even if they cared to stop, or go back, shouting and searching for their lost chee' friend, they'd eventually have to give up. And that with logic saying they would only be reunited ahead anyway.\n\n \t\n\nThe cavern grew steadily more open, but nonetheless the change was abrupt. What had been pale stone lit with an ambient, source-less light became gradually more smooth, more shiny - almost polished. And then all of a sudden, they were in the open. Sort of.\n\nIt was another enormous cavern, at at least the size of that same one had housed their first 'tutorial' challenge. But where that one had disappeared into the fast dark, they could see all the way out across this one thanks to bright, presumably-sunlight shafts that speared down from above - and then reflected all over. Because while their path never quite reached the same luster, all around them rose enormous crystalline growths. At a glance they had the look of rough quartz, but looking out into the distance where there was chance, the sheer scale finally fell off enough to view the complexity almost more akin to trees. There was even an ever so, ever so soft, constant sound, like small, distant, delicate bells that never quite ceased to be disturbed by the light breeze they could all feel. And which intermittently carried away little glistening crystal motes.\n\nAnd there, ahead, the path opened up to reveal...\n\nTheir camp.\n\nJust as they had left it before the cackle had so rudely tried to 'sell them all to unscrupulous merchants', as if someone had copied and pasted it straight from the mountainous plateau down into this little clearing in the forest of oversized crystals.\n\nAnd *Minerva was waiting for them, stood beside the campfire with its magic pot and a just-coming-back-to-awareness Connie.\n\nThe fox goddess smiled.\n\n\"Everyone,\" her voice a little soft, and halting a little too quick as if she had bitten off some platitude about how well they had done. \"It is good to see you all again.\"\n\nNot that she was not right about handing out the rewards!\n\nShe approached Pity and Daniel first of all, making for a momentarily funny look to it all with her just between their respective heights, and so neither able to hover nor crouch to meet either's eyes.\n\n\"Pity, Daniel? The two of you won the challenge, because you both managed to jump to safety. I have been told that I can give you both a Life Point.\"\n\nShe smiled gently - and small enough as not to show Daniel any teeth! She cupped each of their paws in turn, the white +1 rising up before their respective noses while that warm sensation filled their palms.\n\n*Minerva also looked as if she wanted to show Daniel some small affection, but seemed well aware that the flighty rabbit would be best served by a very small bow before she moved on to address the others.\n\n\"Ash, Jacob, Poly, Skylar, and Petal? You all made it to safety, and while Petal was technically the slowest, I am afraid it will be Connie from whom I take the Life Point.\"\n\n*Minerva crouching in front of the cheetah girl she had promised to befriend and, because such was presumably welcome, pushing back the slightly older girl's fringe with a little stroke even as the black -1 rose up in front of her.\n\n\"I hope you will all relax for a while, now. All of your tents are as you left them, and your camp works just the way it did before. There is a stream close by, too. Oh, but I must also offer to open the finds of those who discovered them.\"\n\n\nOnce more, those colored spheres popped back into existence, homing to their owners from the inn to fall into their paws or at their feet depending. \"Petal, Daniel, Jacob, Connie?\" for it would seem that they were the lucky cubs this time around!\n\n[[icon]PetalLaFleur[/icon] Petal, [icon]MystBunny[/icon] Daniel, [icon]Mizzyam[/icon] Jake, [icon]PaydayWolf[/icon] Connie, please see the Questions Placeholder in the comments, below the Prey Responses placeholder, for each of your chances to respond!]\n\n\n\"Finally, the following is the symbol for the upcoming challenge.\"\n\n#H3555491\n\nA gesture, and one of the symbols above the camp suddenly bent the light to glow faint but clear with that rectangular symbol they had all been putting off for so long. \"It has been decided that you can only delay fate for so long.\"\n\nApologetic little smile... and then *Minerva had left them once again. That was the only explanation for why none of the usual niceties were observed.

No *Minerva or Cybele. No goodbyes or life point totalling. Just cubs, whatever they might have been doing, suffering that same sensation of perception rushing in and...

Well, Josephine had been keeping to herself, even before the trauma of earning the record for most-cubs-drowned-in-the-span-of-two-minutes. So it was perhaps no wonder nobody noticed her having been taken at some point between everyone's last confirmed sighting at the weekly summary and, well... now.

But there she was, filling the vision of each cub all of a sudden. The strip of cloth had covered her chest was gone as well, with only the golden chains draped around her torso serving to accent.

At least she couldn't be chilly: she was back in that stone-walled dungeon space, with its various torches and candles burning all around for light. Only difference was, the RPG-ish instruments of torture were no longer arrayed against the walls. Instead they stood free, surrounding the little girl. Some might even have looked... used. And that setting aside the anachronism: racks, gallows, pears, scolds were mixed casually with big, glass tanks, wired metal chairs, racks of tools (powered and otherwise) and shelves of brightly colored sex and sadism toys.

The ominous arrangement would have been inescapable, even if the incorporeal viewers hadn't already been conditioned to read everything about this situation as screaming 'Elimination'.

Fifi was seated, although that was no comfort. Her 'backrest' was a simple upright much the same, and, ensuring she remained a part of the arrangement, her wrists were bound behind her and the post by a pair of chain-linked manacles.

And just to complete the arrangement? A little block of wood through the backrest, jabbed into her back to ensure a slightly bent-backed posture, showing off the naked little skunk's body all the better for everyone viewing. And let's not forget the loop of that same rope from the last two challenges, only now, looped around her neck. Or the level-with-same handle on the other side of the post.

Nothing happened, for the moment. Even Fifi seemed to have been muted, making sure a perhaps-unexpected, disembodied male voice could be clearly heard.

"I don't know if you little brats thought the city meant you were safe or something, but everyone up here watching your little 'adventure's been getting a bit pissed off with your whole 'work together' thing. And all this crap about 'giving the grown-ups what they want' and 'getting kept'? Yeah that's just your slut 'yote's craving for bunny dick."

"Well, farbeit for us to leave you kids without something to learn."

However Fifi might have been struggling in the background, the shared perception temporarily focused on the other figure in the chamber: a feline, also with black fur and white markings though nothing like the imperilled little dancer. Naked, probably post-'fun', albeit still wearing arm-wraps and boots.

"We want to see you scared," the voice went on, "Your adoring 'fans' are paying to watch the meat struggle for their lives, and can't wait to see what happens to the drop-outs. This 'being kept alive' shit? Don't count on it. We've decided your little friend 'won that last game will be just perfect for our example.

"Fitch? Feel free."

The perception dropped from the waiting cat, focusing on Fifi as the little girl tried to glance over her shoulder as the cat that stepped up behind her and her seat, took ahold of the handle across the post from her neck...

And cranked.

The effect was immediate. The rope that had until now merely served to keep Fifi's back against the upright, in spite of that uncomfortable block jabbing just above her tail, went taut. And then immediately after that, shrank.

Little black and white furred girl instantly trying, uselessly, to struggle. Writhing and promptly losing balance on the crossbar, the hard edges jamming into her thighs even as little feet kicked below. Squirming had the block screwing into her spine above her tail, even before 'Fitch' cranked the handle again, added a new twist to the rope ran between it and Fifi's neck.

The sound was back, of course. Thrashing had the manacle chains fair shaving against the back of the post, and the way she was raking her legs and crotch back and forth against the horizontal... if there wasn't blood already, it would not be long.

Another turn, and Fifi could no longer close her mouth. Little pink tongue poking out as she emitted tiny, high pitched noises in her efforts to steal even a little breath, all to no avail. Not with the way the rope had dug a visible inch-and-a-bit into her neck.

Already, even if the feline stopped right this second, Fifi was probably doomed. No cub's neck was supposed to have a divot like that, indicating where the rope had already crushed her windpipe.

Huge, pretty eyes turned on the viewpoint, even if they were bloodshot by now, all while Fifi's struggles grew increasingly frantic. What little restraint had been present to manage the pain of the block and her 'seat', it was gone now, and she was thrashing so hard that blood had to be quickly staining the wood on which Fifi was thrashing.

"Sorry you didn't get to see your friend off, this time. 'Tell you what, why don't you blame your little friend Jake? Putting us onto any little plans to cooperate was just the most useful thing he could have done."

Meanwhile, Fifi's movements weren't thrashing anymore, just sharp, jerking bucks of her contorted body as she tried, and tried and tried for air and...

"Byyye Fifiii," the cruel voice. Just in time for the group to hear the most horrendous series of crunches, watch Fifi go rigid, a little stream of clear yellow pitter-pattering down onto the bloodied crossbar seat... and then slack.

And then the cat looked up at the viewpoint from his dead victim and spoke for the first time. "Oh yeah, that *Minerva vix' had a message for you kids. What was it again..."

The cat pantomimed thoughtfulness, and then similarly played up remembering.

"Oh, yeah, that was it!" he grinned.

"Run."

The low, distant, terrifically heavy-sounding bang that accompanied the retreat of the vision fit so neatly, it might well feel like it had been that that pulled the cubs back to reality. A reality which they all shared, having apparently, yet again, been gathered up and displaced in whatever state they had been until Josephine's big moment.

Whatever that other symbol had been, this one apparently was incompatible with the city setting: they were once more beneath the ground. Gone were all the buildings of the various districts, the amenities, their inn. In its place was a long, wide, mostly circular tunnel of pale grey stone, threaded by a long and largely straight path. Either side of which was the black of an indeterminate drop.

Really it was quite unrealistic, if fairly impressive-looking. The only touches made it look natural were the ragged edges and here-and-there unevenness of the path, and the interspersed ledges and even occasional, solitary stone pillars rising up out of the black beside.

The silence after that first noise, while it had not repeated, was slowly replaced with a low rumbling that only grew louder and louder. And while the tunnel stretched in either direction, this new sound came from behind, and it would only take a glance back to realise that the end of the passage behind them was rushing up after them, almost as if it were being occluded by some great, rolling...

Boulder.

Another concession to gameplay that nobody would be advised to stand around complaining about: that boulder was far-too-neat a fit for the width of the tunnel, thus to keep it from tumbling off the path and saving them all.

And really, between the warning and the dirty great rock storming towards them, nobody had cause to dither in confusion. Heck, it would only take one quick-witted cub to shout, "RUN!" and not a one of them would be sticking around to examine that oncoming rock close up.

                                                                                                                                                \t

The Fifth Challenge

Much like the valley, this one was going to be a straight run. At least this time, the terrain was only a little uneven, and there was no seismic event to unsettle anyone's footing. It didn't even look like it would be a long one! A mere fifty or so feet down the slope, and there was a clear bend in the stone path where the tunnel opened up, and over which that boulder would have no choice but to plummet away.

Difference from the valley being, now they really couldn't help one another: that boulder was far too close and unforgiving, demanding a sprint rather than a long, steady race. And most of the cubs stayed close together, too! Only Ash and Connie bolted forward with any real speed, while the rest of the gang stayed fairly close together on their way down the still perilous-looking slope.

Some would draw ahead: Petal, Jacob, Daniel, only to be overtaken ever so slightly by Pity, who even briefly drew level with Ash and Connie before she began to lose pace and slide back toward that boulder as it trundled implacably after the group.

While Connie and Ash drew ahead all the more, with Jake barely behind and Skylar behind with the 'ball' almost nipping at his heels, Daniel having caught a burst of speed that he could apparently ill-maintain...

Pity spied her chance.

Most unbelievably, the 'yote didn't use that opportunity for sabotage! And that despite the fact Daniel had been right there, ripe to trip as he slid behind.

Who knows; he too might have seen the chance - or, rather, he had! And might even have gone for it alone! But next thing he knew there was Pity's paw clamped around his arm, the little boy was yanked off his feet, and then Pity leapt.

Quite of a sudden, and after a split second of seeming like Pity had thrown them both to their doom, there'd be the uncomfortable impact of stone as Pity managed to leap to safety! A happy recess in the tunnel wall, just large enough for a pair of cubs so long as the leaper didn't mess up the landing.

And she hadn't! So there they were, safe in the nook as the boulder fair roared by after their friends, and all the duo could do was watch! And without panic the jump would no longer even seem that far, enabling a hop back and a cautious but leisurely pursuit of the others. Well, unless they cared to give chase anyway.

Sadly nobody else saw a similar opportunity, and the race continued apace on the other side of the boulder!

Skylar sadly still lagged behind, although those powerful legs would nonetheless never allow her to slide terribly far back from the rest of the party. Connie, Ash, and Jacob remained up front by an increasing distance, with Petal and Poly running together and none too far behind.

Of course it would be Connie who found a way to sabotage what looked like a steady hope for everyone making it to the end, even if only herself.

Maybe it was inspired by Pity and Jacob, maybe she saw a chance on her own, but either way the 'chee abruptly hurled herself from the path and toward a flat-topped pillar of stone - she even landed it! But that only meant absolutely no-one was there to help her when she failed to arrest her momentum.

Nor was there a wall to allow herself to slam into, as there had been for Jacob and Pity. So those far enough behind to watch - in that moment Petal, Skylar, and Poly - could only observe as the cheetah girl fell away into the black. Pity and Jacob would get to see it too! In fact, they would get a great view as Connie emerged from behind the enormous, rolling stone in a graceful leap... and then plummeted.

Just what she'd find down there was anyone's guess - maybe it would just go on forever! Or maybe Connie was about to experience something very similar to what Pity had in the aftermath of everyone finding out about all the fun she had shared with her uncle.

((\r\n\t\t\t\t\t\t
\r\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t
\r\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t
\r\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t

\r\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t
\r\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t
\r\n\t\t\t\t\t\t
\r\n\t\t\t\t\t\t Connie, I will leave the gratuity of your temporary doom up to you to describe in your response!))

No time to mourn, of course. Besides they all probably knew by now that losing Connie would only be temporary, at least for a day or two if that botched escape had sealed her fate.

It was not far to the end, but the last stretch could not have been any less gruelling. Still, one by one the party began to reach safety, with nobody failing to make the final turn that would take them out of the boulder's path!

Ash was the first safe, and she made it with time enough to spare that she could play Connie's role from that valley run, shouting encouragement to her friends! Did that mean Connie was still falling?

At least with the rock out of the way, Pity and Daniel were able to catch up in turn, rejoining the group and leaving the party with nothing to do but trudge on. And that with logic saying they would only be reunited ahead anyway.

                                                                                                                                                \t

The cavern grew steadily more open, but nonetheless the change was abrupt. What had been pale stone lit with an ambient, source-less light became gradually more smooth, more shiny - almost polished. And then all of a sudden, they were in the open. Sort of.

It was another enormous cavern, at at least the size of that same one had housed their first 'tutorial' challenge. And which intermittently carried away little glistening crystal motes.

And there, ahead, the path opened up to reveal...

Their camp.

Just as they had left it before the cackle had so rudely tried to 'sell them all to unscrupulous merchants', as if someone had copied and pasted it straight from the mountainous plateau down into this little clearing in the forest of oversized crystals.

And *Minerva was waiting for them, stood beside the campfire with its magic pot and a just-coming-back-to-awareness Connie.

The fox goddess smiled.

"Everyone," her voice a little soft, and halting a little too quick as if she had bitten off some platitude about how well they had done. "It is good to see you all again."

Not that she was not right about handing out the rewards!

She approached Pity and Daniel first of all, making for a momentarily funny look to it all with her just between their respective heights, and so neither able to hover nor crouch to meet either's eyes.

"Pity, Daniel? The two of you won the challenge, because you both managed to jump to safety. I have been told that I can give you both a Life Point."

She smiled gently - and small enough as not to show Daniel any teeth! She cupped each of their paws in turn, the white +1 rising up before their respective noses while that warm sensation filled their palms.

*Minerva also looked as if she wanted to show Daniel some small affection, but seemed well aware that the flighty rabbit would be best served by a very small bow before she moved on to address the others.

"Ash, Jacob, Poly, Skylar, and Petal? You all made it to safety, and while Petal was technically the slowest, I am afraid it will be Connie from whom I take the Life Point."

*Minerva crouching in front of the cheetah girl she had promised to befriend and, because such was presumably welcome, pushing back the slightly older girl's fringe with a little stroke even as the black -1 rose up in front of her.

"I hope you will all relax for a while, now. All of your tents are as you left them, and your camp works just the way it did before. There is a stream close by, too. Oh, but I must also offer to open the finds of those who discovered them."

Once more, those colored spheres popped back into existence, homing to their owners from the inn to fall into their paws or at their feet depending. "Petal, Daniel, Jacob, Connie?" for it would seem that they were the lucky cubs this time around!

[\r\n\t\t\t\t\t\t
\r\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t
\r\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t
\r\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t

\r\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t
\r\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t
\r\n\t\t\t\t\t\t
\r\n\t\t\t\t\t\t Petal, \r\n\t\t\t\t\t\t
\r\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t
\r\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t
\r\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t

\r\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t
\r\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t
\r\n\t\t\t\t\t\t
\r\n\t\t\t\t\t\t Daniel, \r\n\t\t\t\t\t\t
\r\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t
\r\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t
\r\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t

\r\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t
\r\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t
\r\n\t\t\t\t\t\t
\r\n\t\t\t\t\t\t Jake, \r\n\t\t\t\t\t\t
\r\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t
\r\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t
\r\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t

\r\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t
\r\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t
\r\n\t\t\t\t\t\t
\r\n\t\t\t\t\t\t Connie, please see the Questions Placeholder in the comments, below the Prey Responses placeholder, for each of your chances to respond!]

"Finally, the following is the symbol for the upcoming challenge."

\r\n\t\t\t
\r\n\t\t\t\t\r\n\t\t\t
\r\n\t\t\t

A gesture, and one of the symbols above the camp suddenly bent the light to glow faint but clear with that rectangular symbol they had all been putting off for so long. "It has been decided that you can only delay fate for so long."

Apologetic little smile... and then *Minerva had left them once again.
