"writing": "Chapter 58: Climb Ev’ry Mountain\n\nCassandra and Frankie were indeed sore the next morning, both had trouble standing up until they leaned on each other and didn’t even bother dressing at first because they were so sticky from the previous night’s marathon lovemaking. Fortunately, Lloyd was able to hose them down with Water Gun to help them get clean, a service he extended to the rest of the group, even Helios and Alex despite the pain it caused.\n\n“So, am I just a portable bath?” Lloyd rolled his eyes as everyone dried off and started on breakfast.\n\nCassandra winced slightly, not catching the sarcasm from the intersex Dewott-man’s voice. “No!” Lloyd looked up from where he was about to start cleaning himself, “You’re the youngest aura master I’ve ever seen and you have a drive to protect others unlike anyone I’ve met! You’re not just some tool!”\n\n“Whoa! I was kidding,” Lloyd sounded a bit surprised.\n\nCassandra took a deep breath, “Sorry, I just remember how your ex made you feel and… I didn’t want you to think that about yourself.”\n\nLloyd shook his head, “I don’t. Am I really the youngest? What about your parents?”\n\n“My mom wasn’t, and my dad wasn’t a master, not even when… the Kogun came.” The Braixen-woman took a deep breath, “I only know I achieved master status because the elders of my tribe taught me what it meant to be recognize as a master, so we could figure it out when it happened, and they drilled it into us not to claim that title until we were certain. The hardships I faced on the road helped me become a master and the desire to save your tribe drove you to earn it too.” She smiled and placed a hand on Lloyd’s shoulder, “I’m very proud of you, Lloyd.”\n\nLloyd smiled, “Thanks, Cassandra.”\n\nNearby, Frankie stared at the ground as he sat next to Crafty, ignoring the aches in his pelvis. The shiny Glaceon-woman just sat there, eating and not saying anything or even seeming to notice the pink Gardevoir-man.\n\n“I’m sorry,” Frankie whispered, “I didn’t want to make you feel abandoned or unloved, I just… I was scared I might hurt you. Please don’t hate me.” He started to cry.\n\nCrafty swallowed then sat in silence for a minute before she answered, “I don’t want to be mad, but you were the first friend I made after I escaped the Brotherhood, the first person I could talk to until Dee showed up.” She smiled and put a hand on his shoulder, relieved when he didn’t flinch away, “I don’t hate you, I never could. You and Dee brought Holly back to me,” she reached under Frankie’s chin and brought the pink-haired Gardevoir-man’s chin up to face her, “I love you,” she gave Frankie a kiss. He reciprocated.\n\nFrankie gave a little cry then threw his arms around Crafty, “Thank you! I’m sorry! I love you too!” he cried into her shoulder. Crafty hugged and rubbed his back until he finally calmed down.\n\nAfter their hug ended, Crafty passed some food to Frankie, “Better eat, then we need to get moving.”\n\n“And get dressed?” Frankie asked before he dug in.\n\nCrafty smirked, “Maybe. I’d love to see how people react when a whole group of naked Poke-people come walking into town, or a base.” Her declaration made a few of the group almost choke mid-bite or drink.\n\n“Feeling better?” Cassandra asked as she and Frankie were getting dressed.\n\nFrankie rubbed his head, “I am, thank you.” He stood up once he was fully dressed.\n\n“You love her too?” Cassandra finished dressing.\n\nFrankie smiled, “I do, I can’t stop myself from loving more than one person. You’ve both done so much for me in such a short time.” He leaned over for a kiss.\n\nCassandra grabbed Frankie’s head and forcefully kissed him which left the Gardevoir-man with a dazed smile. The Braixen-woman smirked, “I found something new to love about you, your honesty. Don’t stop being who you are, Frankie.” She paused, “Your hair’s started to get long.”\n\nFrankie was rubbing his head and felt his hair was indeed longer than it used to be. “Yeah, maybe I should grow… grow…” his eyes lit up.\n\nCassandra stared as his eyes and chest horn glowed, “Frankie? Frankie what’s wrong?!”\n\nCrafty heard this and saw what was happening, “He’s having a vision, a big one!” She darted over, “What is it, what do you see?”\n\nFrankie’s voice sounded far away as he spoke, “High into the cold, the domain of the deformed, that is where your goal lies and more new life will be found.” Frankie panted as the vision ended and put a hand over his chest as his heart beat faster, “This has to be it, what I was trying to find all this time!”\n\nCassandra was a bit startled by the sudden psychic vision and turned to everyone else, “So what do we do?”\n\n“We follow it,” Dee pulled on her backpack, “if I remember the games then ‘high into the cold’ probably means Snowbelle City. If that’s actually a place.”\n\n“It is,” Alex checked his laser pistol, Pew-pew, “My caravan used to deliver supplies up there. It’s to the northwest atop a mountain where there’s always snow.” He turned to Lloyd, “You might want something other than your shorts up there.”\n\nLloyd folded his arms under his breasts and smirked, “I can handle a little cold.”\n\n“This isn’t a little cold, it’s cold constantly and enough to be below zero all the time. Even before the war winter was mild around here.” Alex set off north, “We should stop at Camp Silverman to resupply on the way.” He motioned for them to follow him heading north up the road.\n\nThe first night, Crafty invited Frankie to sleep with her, which he enthusiastically accepted. Frankie was on top as the two furiously made out, only stopping for air when Frankie winced in pain.\n\n“Sorry, still a bit sore,” Frankie rubbed his thigh.\n\n“Not surprised. It’s alright if you want to wait another day,” Crafty assured him.\n\nFrankie grinned, “No way, not letting you feel unloved any longer.” He dove down again for a big kiss and rammed his hard dick into Crafty’s eager pussy.”\n\nNearby, Cassandra couldn’t help but overhear with her huge Braixen ears as she was trying to sleep and smirked.\n\nThe next morning, during breakfast, Cassandra made an offer to Frankie, “Do you want me to give you some aura training?” \n\nFrankie’s eyes went wide as he turned to the Braixen-woman and blurted out the first question on his mind, “Do you think I can be an aura master too?”\n\nCassandra couldn’t help but laugh, “Sorry, sorry! Not laughing at you, just how direct that was,” she wiped her eyes but kept smiling at Frankie as the shiny pink Gardevoir-man blushed, “Yes, I do, but not as fast as Lloyd did.” She glanced at the intersex Dewott-man who was going through some morning exercises then using Water Gun to make a shower of water over him, as he didn’t like being dry for so long. “His drive was intense and I doubt anyone could go as hard as he did safely.” She turned back to Frankie, “You already have a good grasp of your aura and that you were able to Mega Evolve and stay focused, that takes more than just wanting it to happen.”\n\nFrankie was still blushing but smiled back, “Yes, train me, please!” He almost shouted which made everyone turn to him mid-meal.\n\nCassandra laughed then finished her breakfast and stood up then helped Frankie to his feet, “Alright, we’ll start as we walk.”\n\nTwo days later at midday they stopped at Camp Silverman to resupply and inform everyone that the Death-Scyther were gone and both the quarry and trade route were now open.\n\nThey followed the road north, only briefly stopped by an ambush from the Fiends raider gang. None of the disfigured Furfrou-people survived the battle. \n\nFive days into their journey the road turned around and up the mountain trail towards Snowbelle city. A day into their hike it started to get cold and the next day they found themselves walking through snow that piled higher as they went onwards. The only other things they found were wild Dubwool, which ignored them as long as they kept their distance. Sleeping at night was more cramped as they only had two tents. Dee, Helios and Lloyd shared one while Frankie was all too willing to sleep in the same tent as Cassandra, Crafty and Holly along with Alex so his and Cassandra’s body heat could keep everyone else warm; the need for warmth meant that they weren’t able to do much and the less said about getting into and out of their armor the better.\n\nCrafty was in her element with the snow, she only wished she didn’t have to wear her riot gear and would have even run around naked with no hesitation. Alex, Helios and Cassandra were of a similar mind, a combination of their fire-typing and armor or aura control meant they could withstand the cold weather but didn’t take to it as well as the Glaceon-woman. Dee dealt with the cold by walking next to Helios the entire time, though she could have kept herself warmer with Aura if she so desired. Holly’s stealth suit thankfully was insulated enough for her own body heat to keep her going. Frankie was having some difficulty but Cassandra was able to teach him how to circulate his aura as part of his training to keep himself warm, and walk next to her so she could use fire to keep himself warm.\n\nThey expected Lloyd to have the worst time, but he took to the cold like a champ. When asked he just said that the River Mothers had to deal with cold water a lot, especially in the winter months, and as long as he kept himself well-fed and with help from his aura, he could easily withstand the weather. Cassandra couldn’t help but comment that he seemed too well-fed lately but the Dewott-man just brushed it off as needing to help replenish all the aura he’d spent both getting to Kalos and in the Death-Scyther battle.\n\nSnowbelle City finally came into view after the fourth day walking through the cold; what was left of the city was a single large winter lodge surrounded by a log fence up to an open gate.\n\nAlex spoke as he led them ahead now that their goal was in sight, “We never went inside, the two guards always discouraged it, just unloaded the supplies at the entrance and left them to haul it in. Always needed one extra Tauros full of food and heat packs with us, but they paid well enough to be worth it.” He squinted forwards, “I think I see them, it’s a muscular Medicham-woman and a strange Raichu-man, like doesn’t look like any Raichu I ever heard of. Can’t remember their names.”\n\n“But they didn’t actually stop you, right?” Frankie asked.\n\nAlex shook his head, “Said they wouldn’t but that it would be a bad idea. The other residents don’t like visitor apparently.”\n\n“Doesn’t matter, I need to see what’s waiting for me here. I can feel it getting closer!” Frankie wanted to speed up but decided to stay next to Cassandra to help stay warm.\n\n“Just hope we can have some fun, I really want to get out of this gear and experience snow all over me,” she glanced back at Lloyd who was eating a ration bar as they walked. The intersex Dewott-man swallowed and smirked.\n\nThe two on guard were what Alex described and both wearing winter gear over their armor: A purple shiny Medicham woman with a masculine build, having shoulders as broad as her hips though her figure was hard to discern under her winter gear; the Raichu-man was indeed odd-looking, his fur was brown instead of orange but most strikingly were his ears and tail which were thicker and puffier than other Raichu they’d seen, and his tail seemed to float around like a ballon instead of wagging like a tail. Neither were armed but Cassandra, Lloyd and Dee could tell they radiated enough aura that they didn’t need them.\n\nThe Raichu-man smiled as he recognized Alex, “Hey, different Caravan this time.”\n\nThe Medicham-woman leaned sideways and snickered when she saw Lloyd, “And some a bit underdressed.”\n\nLloyd folded his arms, “And you seem a bit overdressed with aura control like yours.”\n\nDee stepped back from the entrance, a sick feeling starting to overcome her. Frankie, on the other hand, stepped forwards as his own developing aura sense and his psychic abilities drew him to the Medicham-woman, whose own sense sparked when she spotted him. “Who are you?”\n\nThe Gardevoir-man gulped, “My name’s Frankie, what’s your name?”\n\n“I’m Raelia and this is my mate, Flash,” Raelia took the Raichu-man’s hand then focused on Frankie. “You look like mom, with pink hair.”\n\n“I don’t remember my mother,” Frankie and Raelia’s eyes met. Both part-psychic types opened their minds to each other on instinct and suddenly memories began flying between them faster than words could convey; partway into the exchange, Flash’s own memories started to mingle between the two.\n\nWhen the exchange finished, Frankie and Raelia’s faces broke into his grins.\n\n“You’re my little brother!”\n\n“You’re my big sister!”\n\nThe two shiny half-psychics suddenly latched onto each other with a tight hug and started crying. A moment later, Frankie broke away and turned to a bewildered Flash.\n\n“You saved her, thank you!” with zero hesitation he grabbed the strange Raichu-man in a hug and planted a huge kiss on his lips, which stunned everyone and left only the faint howl of the wind for noise.\n\nRealizing what he’d just done, Frankie’s face turned bright red as he released Flash and stepped back, “Sorry, I was just so thankful and… that felt like the best way to show it.”\n\nFlash was blushing too and scratched his cheek, “It’s fine, guess a lot of emotions got mixed up in the psychic exchange we had.”\n\n“What the fuck just happened?” Alex had stared at the display, one eye half-squinted and his mouth hanging open. Holly was just as bewildered, Crafty was unable to suppress her giggles, Lloyd also gave a bit of a confused look at Frankie while Dee and Helios were only barely paying attention as the Charizard-man held his mate who had started shaking from something besides the cold. That left Cassandra to explain.\n\n“They had an exchange of memories, it’s something psychic types can do. My mom told me that when I was younger,” she turned to Flash, “How did you do that though? Last I checked Raichu were electric types.”\n\nFlash chuckled as he tried to get his blush to fade, “Same, until we came to Kalos a couple years ago. We came through the New Orange Pass before I evolved and found a thunder stone. I was eager to evolve but when I touched it, well my mind was expanded and the doc confirmed I became half-psychic. Helped me and Raelia connect better, and my tail can do this now,” he jumped back to sit on to the inflated tip of his tail which easily supported his weight as it floated right above the ground with his feet not even touching the snow.\n\nRaelia smirked, “It can easily support both our weights.” The statement made Flash chuckle a bit.\n\n“Much as I’m enjoying this family reunion, could we go inside,” Holly shivered “This is not the kind of cold I enjoy.”\n\nFlash shared a worried look with Raelia then stood up off his tail, “Not sure that’s a good idea.”\n\n“Me neither,” Dee finally spoke up, “I sense something in there, something familiar…” she rapidly shook her head.\n\nRaelia sighed, “You can’t stay outside forever, even with fire types, there’s a storm coming. Just promise you won’t freak out.”\n\n“I’ll do my best,” Dee shuddered again as they all followed Flash and Raelia towards the main two-story lodge.\n\nOnce inside it was a massive relief to all to be in from the cold which led to gasps of warm air being sucked in, most notably from Holly and even Lloyd as his cold tolerance was being stretched. The gasps of relief were suddenly shattered when Dee screamed in fear as one of the Lodge’s inhabitants made itself known: a woman with a torso covered in layered white skirts, a long neck with small eyes and giant antenna but with very human arms and legs that looked so completely wrong!\n\n“Ultra-Hybrids!”\n\nHelios’ voice cut through Dee’s mind as more of them emerged, all of them like the failures from Lusamine’s experiments at Fort Daggerpoint: half-human and half Ultra-Beast, but not a balanced mix: some had beast torso and humans arms or human torsos with beast arms, for some it was just left or right side of their whole body or one leg an arm on opposite sides and half a head; the fact that none of them wore clothes didn’t even register with how grotesque all of them were to look at.\n\nDee was backing away as all the memories and the horrors that Lusamine had inflicted on her and others to perfect her immortality experiments came rushing back: all of the former humans turned into these grotesque monsters that had tried to chase and grab her to use in more experiments on her own parasite!\n\nAs one of the Hybrids approached the group, Dee let out a hoarse scream and fired an Aura Sphere on pure reflex which spiraled towards the Ultra-Hybrid. Raelia jumped in the sphere’s path and threw up a bright green barrier of Protect right as the Aura Sphere struck and exploded, which knocked her off her feet.\n\nDee was about to fire a second Aura sphere when Cassandra grabbed her arms and forced the aura to disperse, “Stop!”\n\nDee struggled to get free and get far far away until Helios wrapped his arms and wings around her from behind, “It’s alright, we’re here for you.” Then the Charizard-man glared up at the two who had greeted them and growled, “What in Moltres’ name are those… things doing here?!”\n\nFlash’s cheeks were sparking as he used his tail to steady the Medicham-woman when a rough voice interrupted them, “Flash, Raelia, what’s going on here?” the voice came from an old human man with short white hair and wearing glasses emerging from a large to the right.\n\nA Mismagius floated next to the old man and looked around before speaking in an even rougher voice, “Looks like visitors. Don’t worry about the hybrids, they won’t hurt you.”\n\nDee turned around and buried her face in Helios’ chest, “Please, get them away!” her voice was still strained as she was started to cry.\n\nFlash and Raelia turned to the Ultra-Hybrids and psychically asked them to leave for Dee’s sake. It took a few minutes to get them out of the main lobby, a couple lingering to stare at Dee, trying to recognize her, before they finally left.\n\nOnce the Ultra-Hybrids were out of the room, the elderly human moved to get a closer look at the group, “I guess I should introduce myself: Doctor Henry, PhD specializing in neuroscience, both human and Pokemon. The lab I have here is nothing compared to what I had with the Enclave but I do what I can.”\n\nThe reveal of his former affiliation set the group on edge, other than Lloyd who gave a confused look as he folded his arms under his breasts, “What’s the Enclave?”\n\n“A collection of powerful people from before the war with several subordinate companies that researched into human evolution, or at least that’s what I remember. After Lusamine took over and merged what was left of it with the Aether Foundation I disagreed with the direction she was taking things and left. Smart move, from what I heard the whole operation imploded, literally.” Dr. Henry shook his head sadly.\n\nDee slowly turned around and nodded as Helios released her, “It did.”\n\nAlex raised a hand as he felt a headache coming on, “Alright, everyone, let’s settle down, settle in and start at the beginning. First: is there a working kitchen here?”\n\nFlash pointed to a back room on the ground floor, “Back there. I can get you something.”\n\n“No need,” Alex had already shed his combat armor and was making his way to the kitchen, “you all just settle in and share your pasts while I get supper ready for everyone. I assume the Ultra-Hybrids need to eat too.”\n\n“Yes!” Raelia called as Alex entered the kitchen, “well, let me give you all the tour.”\n\nThe main lodge was a two-story wooden building with a main room around a fireplace, kitchen and bathrooms on the main floor and multiple bedrooms on both floors that had been taken up by the Ultra-Hybrids. Doctor Henry had a lab off to the right of the main that had been converted from a sauna. Dee skipped the tour, staying with Helios in the common room until everyone returned. After the tour, Lloyd headed into the kitchen to see what Alex was doing and ended up helping him prepare supper.\n\nAfter the short tour everyone gathered around the fireplace and made introductions. The Mismagus introduced herself, “My name’s Calamity, for now. I change jobs and names every decade or so to keep from getting bored. I never tried science before I came here but I’ve found a really quite good at it, accord to Doctor Henry.”\n\nDr. henry folded his arms and nodded, “You follow instructions and remember what you learn, that puts you above 95% of the others I’ve ever worked with.”\n\n“Supper’s ready!” Alex came out with a huge pot of beef stew he needed both hands and held against his chest to carry.\n\nDoctor Henry winced as he saw the burning hot metal pressed against the Ninetales-man’s chest, “I know you can take it, but I still can’t help but feel like I’ve been burned when I see something like that.”\n\nLloyd followed with a huge stack of bowls balanced in one hand and spoons in the other, “One of your grandma’s recipes?”\n\nAlex nodded and took a bowl, ladling the first serving in before passing it to Dee, “Yeah, supplies are getting a little low for how much I had to make. Trouble getting deliveries?”\n\n“Your caravan was the only one that took our contract. We tried to send a message to Magma Caravan but haven’t heard back in a while,” Flash sighed.\n\n“What happened to them?” Raelia asked.\n\nAlex stopped stirring the pot for moment and stared at his stew, “They’re dead. Magma Caravan had them killed so they could steal our routes…”\n\nRaelia winced, “I’m sorry to hear that. You were nice people.”\n\n“We got them back though,” Alex resumed serving, “Found evidence of their crimes and delivered them to the NKR people who actually care about that. Probably why they haven’t sent anyone up here, sorry…”\n\nThere were noises of fear from the Ultra-Hybrids in other rooms at the mention of NKR but none returned to the common room.\n\n“They probably wouldn’t deliver to us anyway,” Calamity rolled her eyes, “that does smell good though, I might give it a try if there’s any left.”\n\nHolly gave her an odd look, “Can Ghost-types even eat?”\n\n“We do, just not as much as corporeal beings.” Calamity only accepted a half-bowl after everyone else was served.\n\nDee was able to stay with the Ultra Hybrids out of sight, even when Alex and Lloyd left to serve them. Thankfully there was more than enough to go around, even seconds and thirds for those who wanted it, like Dee.\n\nAfter her fourth bowl of stew, Dee looked up at Dr. Henry who had just finished his first bowl, “Why are you and the,” she gulped, “Ultra-Hybrids here?”\n\nDr. Henry set his book aside, “I’m trying to find a way to cure them of their condition, end the constant pain their under and undo Lusamine’s damage.”\n\n“Why?” Dee set her own bowl aside.\n\n“Four reasons: first because Flash and Raelia asked me to, second because it gives me a reason to get up in the morning, third is that I want to get one more scientific achievement done in my life, and lastly it’s a chance to stick it to Lusamine and her insane experiments one last time.” Doctor Henry stood up, “If you’ll excuse me I need to check on my process before I turn in for the night. Thank you for supper, Alex.” He and Calamity headed for his lab.\n\nAs Dee watched the old human go she touched her middle, just over top of the belly she’s been gaining for the last few weeks. Her Ultra-Parasite was dead but she was the only one to ever survive and hybridize from the experiments, maybe…\n\nDee whipped her head around as she saw one of the Hybrids peeking in and it quickly pulled back out of sight, but not before Dee saw the pain in its eyes. Horrifying as the memories were, the hybrids were victims as she was, but much worse off as they were stuck in a limbo mid-mutation and even in that brief moment she could feel the pain it must have been suffering.\n\nDee stood up as Alex and Lloyd gathered the dishes, “Excuse me, I need to talk to the doctor,” then followed them into the lab.\n\n“Excuse me, Doctor.” Dee’s voice made Dr. Henry turn from the notes he was checking and saving at his computer, “I want help if I can.”\n\n“Do you know anything about science or medicine?” Dr. Henry sounded skeptical.\n\n“Some science, not like what you’d know, but that’s not why,” she placed a hand above her stomach again and gulped as she had to force herself to continue, “I’m one of Lusamine’s experiments.” Dr. Henry’s eyes went wide as Dee continued, “She created me from an old blood sample and put an Ultra-Parasite inside me. When I hybridized into a Riolu-woman it made the parasite weaker and stable so I never got deformed. The parasite died to protect me from the disaster at Galar but I survived and… if there’s anything I or my body can do to help then I want to help her other victims if I can.”\n\nDr. Henry turned his chair to fully face her, “Are you serious? You survived that process?” Dee nodded and wiped away the few tears that had formed.\n\n“That’s an incredible thing if it’s true, but we’d have to run some tests,” Calamity floated over.\n\n“It might just be the breakthrough we’re looking for,” Dr. Henry smiled, which made Calamity recoil from the unfamiliar sight, “Not tonight though, get some rest and come back in the morning. If you don’t want to sleep around the Ultra-Hybrids then you and your friends can share out the four private cabins in the yard, just watch for the Dubwool. They can withstand the cold but get ornery if you wake them.”\n\nDee gave a weak smile, “Yes, I’ll be back tomorrow.”",

Not laughing at you, just how direct that was,&rdquo; she wiped her eyes but kept smiling at Frankie as the shiny pink Gardevoir-man blushed, &ldquo;Yes, I do, but not as fast as Lloyd did.&rdquo; She glanced at the intersex Dewott-man who was going through some morning exercises then using Water Gun to make a shower of water over him, as he didn&rsquo;t like being dry for so long. &ldquo; His drive was intense and I doubt anyone could go as hard as he did safely.&rdquo; She turned back to Frankie, &ldquo; You already have a good grasp of your aura and that you were able to Mega Evolve and stay focused, that takes more than just wanting it to happen.&rdquo;<br /><br />Frankie was still blushing but smiled back, &ldquo;Yes, train me, please!&rdquo; He almost shouted which made everyone turn to him mid-meal.<br /><br />Cassandra laughed then finished her breakfast and stood up then helped Frankie to his feet, &ldquo;Alright, we&rsquo;ll start as we walk.&rdquo;<br /><br />Two days later at midday they stopped at Camp Silverman to resupply and inform everyone that the Death-Scyther were gone and both the quarry and trade route were now open.<br /><br />They followed the road north, only briefly stopped by an ambush from the Fiends raider gang. None of the disfigured Furfrou-people survived the battle. <br /><br />Five days into their journey the road turned around and up the mountain trail towards Snowbelle city. A day into their hike it started to get cold and the next day they found themselves walking through snow that piled higher as they went onwards. The only other things they found were wild Dubwool, which ignored them as long as they kept their distance. Sleeping at night was more cramped as they only had two tents. Dee, Helios and Lloyd shared one while Frankie was all too willing to sleep in the same tent as Cassandra, Crafty and Holly along with Alex so his and Cassandra&rsquo;s body heat could keep everyone else warm; the need for warmth meant that they weren&rsquo;t able to do much and the less said about getting into and out of their armor the better.<br /><br />Crafty was in her element with the snow, she only wished she didn&rsquo;t have to wear her riot gear and would have even run around naked with no hesitation. Alex, Helios and Cassandra were of a similar mind, a combination of their fire-typing and armor or aura control meant they could withstand the cold weather but didn&rsquo;t take to it as well as the Glaceon-woman. Dee dealt with the cold by walking next to Helios the entire time, though she could have kept herself warmer with Aura if she so desired. Holly&rsquo;s stealth suit thankfully was insulated enough for her own body heat to keep her going. Frankie was having some difficulty but Cassandra was able to teach him how to circulate his aura as part of his training to keep himself warm, and walk next to her so she could use fire to keep himself warm.<br /><br />They expected Lloyd to have the worst time, but he took to the cold like a champ. When asked he just said that the River Mothers had to deal with cold water a lot, especially in the winter months, and as long as he kept himself well-fed and with help from his aura, he could easily withstand the weather. Cassandra couldn&rsquo;t help but comment that he seemed too well-fed lately but the Dewott-man just brushed it off as needing to help replenish all the aura he&rsquo;d spent both getting to Kalos and in the Death-Scyther battle.<br /><br />Snowbelle City finally came into view after the fourth day walking through the cold; what was left of the city was a single large winter lodge surrounded by a log fence up to an open gate.<br /><br />Alex spoke as he led them ahead now that their goal was in sight, &ldquo; We never went inside, the two guards always discouraged it, just unloaded the supplies at the entrance and left them to haul it in. Always needed one extra Tauros full of food and heat packs with us, but they paid well enough to be worth it.&rdquo; He squinted forwards, &ldquo;I think I see them, it&rsquo;s a muscular Medicham-woman and a strange Raichu-man, like doesn&rsquo;t look like any Raichu I ever heard of. Can&rsquo;t remember their names.&rdquo;<br /><br />&ldquo;But they didn&rsquo;t actually stop you, right?&rdquo; Frankie asked.<br /><br />Alex shook his head, &ldquo;Said they wouldn&rsquo;t but that it would be a bad idea. The other residents don&rsquo;t like visitor apparently.&rdquo;<br /><br />&ldquo;Doesn&rsquo;t matter, I need to see what&rsquo;s waiting for me here. I can feel it getting closer!&rdquo; Frankie wanted to speed up but decided to stay next to Cassandra to help stay warm.<br /><br />&ldquo;Just hope we can have some fun, I really want to get out of this gear and experience snow all over me,&rdquo; she glanced back at Lloyd who was eating a ration bar as they walked. The intersex Dewott-man swallowed and smirked.<br /><br />The two on guard were what Alex described and both wearing winter gear over their armor: A purple shiny Medicham woman with a masculine build, having shoulders as broad as her hips though her figure was hard to discern under her winter gear; the Raichu-man was indeed odd-looking, his fur was brown instead of orange but most strikingly were his ears and tail which were thicker and puffier than other Raichu they&rsquo;d seen, and his tail seemed to float around like a ballon instead of wagging like a tail. Neither were armed but Cassandra, Lloyd and Dee could tell they radiated enough aura that they didn&rsquo;t need them.<br /><br />The Raichu-man smiled as he recognized Alex, &ldquo;Hey, different Caravan this time.&rdquo;<br /><br />The Medicham-woman leaned sideways and snickered when she saw Lloyd, &ldquo; And some a bit underdressed.&rdquo;<br /><br />Lloyd folded his arms, &ldquo; And you seem a bit overdressed with aura control like yours.&rdquo;<br /><br />Dee stepped back from the entrance, a sick feeling starting to overcome her. Frankie, on the other hand, stepped forwards as his own developing aura sense and his psychic abilities drew him to the Medicham-woman, whose own sense sparked when she spotted him. &ldquo;Who are you?&rdquo;<br /><br />The Gardevoir-man gulped, &ldquo; My name&rsquo;s Frankie, what&rsquo;s your name?&rdquo;<br /><br />&ldquo;I&rsquo;m Raelia and this is my mate, Flash,&rdquo; Raelia took the Raichu-man&rsquo;s hand then focused on Frankie. &ldquo; You look like mom, with pink hair.&rdquo;<br /><br />&ldquo;I don&rsquo;t remember my mother,&rdquo; Frankie and Raelia&rsquo;s eyes met. Both part-psychic types opened their minds to each other on instinct and suddenly memories began flying between them faster than words could convey; partway into the exchange, Flash&rsquo;s own memories started to mingle between the two.<br /><br />When the exchange finished, Frankie and Raelia&rsquo;s faces broke into his grins.<br /><br />&ldquo;You&rsquo;re my little brother!&rdquo;<br /><br />&ldquo;You&rsquo;re my big sister!&rdquo;<br /><br />The two shiny half-psychics suddenly latched onto each other with a tight hug and started crying. A moment later, Frankie broke away and turned to a bewildered Flash.<br /><br />&ldquo;You saved her, thank you!&rdquo; with zero hesitation he grabbed the strange Raichu-man in a hug and planted a huge kiss on his lips, which stunned everyone and left only the faint howl of the wind for noise.<br /><br />Realizing what he&rsquo;d just done, Frankie&rsquo;s face turned bright red as he released Flash and stepped back, &ldquo;Sorry, I was just so thankful and&hellip; that felt like the best way to show it.&rdquo;<br /><br />Flash was blushing too and scratched his cheek, &ldquo; It&rsquo;s fine, guess a lot of emotions got mixed up in the psychic exchange we had.&rdquo;<br /><br />&ldquo;What the fuck just happened?&rdquo; Alex had stared at the display, one eye half-squinted and his mouth hanging open. Holly was just as bewildered, Crafty was unable to suppress her giggles, Lloyd also gave a bit of a confused look at Frankie while Dee and Helios were only barely paying attention as the Charizard-man held his mate who had started shaking from something besides the cold. That left Cassandra to explain.<br /><br />&ldquo;They had an exchange of memories, it&rsquo;s something psychic types can do. My mom told me that when I was younger,&rdquo; she turned to Flash, &ldquo; How did you do that though? Last I checked Raichu were electric types.&rdquo;<br /><br />Flash chuckled as he tried to get his blush to fade, &ldquo;Same, until we came to Kalos a couple years ago. We came through the New Orange Pass before I evolved and found a thunder stone. I was eager to evolve but when I touched it, well my mind was expanded and the doc confirmed I became half-psychic. Helped me and Raelia connect better, and my tail can do this now,&rdquo; he jumped back to sit on to the inflated tip of his tail which easily supported his weight as it floated right above the ground with his feet not even touching the snow.<br /><br />Raelia smirked, &ldquo; It can easily support both our weights.&rdquo; The statement made Flash chuckle a bit.<br /><br />&ldquo;Much as I&rsquo;m enjoying this family reunion, could we go inside,&rdquo; Holly shivered &ldquo; This is not the kind of cold I enjoy.&rdquo;<br /><br />Flash shared a worried look with Raelia then stood up off his tail, &ldquo; Not sure that&rsquo;s a good idea.&rdquo;<br /><br />&ldquo;Me neither,&rdquo; Dee finally spoke up, &ldquo;I sense something in there, something familiar&hellip;&rdquo; she rapidly shook her head.<br /><br />Raelia sighed, &ldquo; You can&rsquo;t stay outside forever, even with fire types, there&rsquo;s a storm coming. Just promise you won&rsquo;t freak out.&rdquo;<br /><br />&ldquo;I&rsquo;ll do my best,&rdquo; Dee shuddered again as they all followed Flash and Raelia towards the main two-story lodge.<br /><br />Once inside it was a massive relief to all to be in from the cold which led to gasps of warm air being sucked in, most notably from Holly and even Lloyd as his cold tolerance was being stretched. The gasps of relief were suddenly shattered when Dee screamed in fear as one of the Lodge&rsquo;s inhabitants made itself known: a woman with a torso covered in layered white skirts, a long neck with small eyes and giant antenna but with very human arms and legs that looked so completely wrong!<br /><br />&ldquo;Ultra-Hybrids!&rdquo;<br /><br />Helios&rsquo; voice cut through Dee&rsquo;s mind as more of them emerged, all of them like the failures from Lusamine&rsquo;s experiments at Fort Daggerpoint: half-human and half Ultra-Beast, but not a balanced mix: some had beast torso and humans arms or human torsos with beast arms, for some it was just left or right side of their whole body or one leg an arm on opposite sides and half a head; the fact that none of them wore clothes didn&rsquo;t even register with how grotesque all of them were to look at.<br /><br />Dee was backing away as all the memories and the horrors that Lusamine had inflicted on her and others to perfect her immortality experiments came rushing back: all of the former humans turned into these grotesque monsters that had tried to chase and grab her to use in more experiments on her own parasite!<br /><br />As one of the Hybrids approached the group, Dee let out a hoarse scream and fired an Aura Sphere on pure reflex which spiraled towards the Ultra-Hybrid. Don&rsquo;t worry about the hybrids, they won&rsquo;t hurt you.&rdquo;<br /><br />Dee turned around and buried her face in Helios&rsquo; chest, &ldquo; Please, get them away!&rdquo; her voice was still strained as she was started to cry.<br /><br />Flash and Raelia turned to the Ultra-Hybrids and psychically asked them to leave for Dee&rsquo;s sake. It took a few minutes to get them out of the main lobby, a couple lingering to stare at Dee, trying to recognize her, before they finally left.<br /><br />Once the Ultra-Hybrids were out of the room, the elderly human moved to get a closer look at the group, &ldquo;I guess I should introduce myself: Doctor Henry, PhD specializing in neuroscience, both human and Pokemon. After Lusamine took over and merged what was left of it with the Aether Foundation I disagreed with the direction she was taking things and left. Smart move, from what I heard the whole operation imploded, literally.&rdquo; Dr. Henry shook his head sadly.<br /><br />Dee slowly turned around and nodded as Helios released her, &ldquo; It did.&rdquo;<br /><br />Alex raised a hand as he felt a headache coming on, &ldquo;Alright, everyone, let&rsquo;s settle down, settle in and start at the beginning. First: is there a working kitchen here?&rdquo;<br /><br />Flash pointed to a back room on the ground floor, &ldquo;Back there. I can get you something.&rdquo;<br /><br />&ldquo;No need,&rdquo; Alex had already shed his combat armor and was making his way to the kitchen, &ldquo;you all just settle in and share your pasts while I get supper ready for everyone. I assume the Ultra-Hybrids need to eat too.&rdquo;<br /><br />&ldquo;Yes!&rdquo; Raelia called as Alex entered the kitchen, &ldquo;well, let me give you all the tour.&rdquo;<br /><br />The main lodge was a two-story wooden building with a main room around a fireplace, kitchen and bathrooms on the main floor and multiple bedrooms on both floors that had been taken up by the Ultra-Hybrids. Doctor Henry had a lab off to the right of the main that had been converted from a sauna. Dee skipped the tour, staying with Helios in the common room until everyone returned. After the tour, Lloyd headed into the kitchen to see what Alex was doing and ended up helping him prepare supper.<br /><br />After the short tour everyone gathered around the fireplace and made introductions. The Mismagus introduced herself, &ldquo; My name&rsquo;s Calamity, for now. I change jobs and names every decade or so to keep from getting bored. I never tried science before I came here but I&rsquo;ve found a really quite good at it, accord to Doctor Henry.&rdquo;<br /><br />Dr. henry folded his arms and nodded, &ldquo; You follow instructions and remember what you learn, that puts you above 95% of the others I&rsquo;ve ever worked with.&rdquo;<br /><br />&ldquo;Supper&rsquo;s ready!&rdquo; Alex came out with a huge pot of beef stew he needed both hands and held against his chest to carry.<br /><br />Doctor Henry winced as he saw the burning hot metal pressed against the Ninetales-man&rsquo;s chest, &ldquo;I know you can take it, but I still can&rsquo;t help but feel like I&rsquo;ve been burned when I see something like that.&rdquo;<br /><br />Lloyd followed with a huge stack of bowls balanced in one hand and spoons in the other, &ldquo; One of your grandma&rsquo;s recipes?&rdquo;<br /><br />Alex nodded and took a bowl, ladling the first serving in before passing it to Dee, &ldquo;Yeah, supplies are getting a little low for how much I had to make. Trouble getting deliveries?&rdquo;<br /><br />&ldquo;Your caravan was the only one that took our contract. We tried to send a message to Magma Caravan but haven&rsquo;t heard back in a while,&rdquo; Flash sighed.<br /><br />&ldquo;What happened to them?&rdquo; Raelia asked.<br /><br />Alex stopped stirring the pot for moment and stared at his stew, &ldquo; They&rsquo;re dead. Magma Caravan had them killed so they could steal our routes&hellip;&rdquo;<br /><br />Raelia winced, &ldquo;I&rsquo;m sorry to hear that. You were nice people.&rdquo;<br /><br />&ldquo;We got them back though,&rdquo; Alex resumed serving, &ldquo;Found evidence of their crimes and delivered them to the NKR people who actually care about that. Probably why they haven&rsquo;t sent anyone up here, sorry&hellip;&rdquo;<br /><br />There were noises of fear from the Ultra-Hybrids in other rooms at the mention of NKR but none returned to the common room.<br /><br />&ldquo;They probably wouldn&rsquo;t deliver to us anyway,&rdquo; Calamity rolled her eyes, &ldquo;that does smell good though, I might give it a try if there&rsquo;s any left.&rdquo;<br /><br />Holly gave her an odd look, &ldquo; Can Ghost-types even eat?&rdquo;<br /><br />&ldquo;We do, just not as much as corporeal beings.&rdquo; Calamity only accepted a half-bowl after everyone else was served.<br /><br />Dee was able to stay with the Ultra Hybrids out of sight, even when Alex and Lloyd left to serve them. Thankfully there was more than enough to go around, even seconds and thirds for those who wanted it, like Dee.<br /><br />After her fourth bowl of stew, Dee looked up at Dr. Henry who had just finished his first bowl, &ldquo; Why are you and the,&rdquo; she gulped, &ldquo;Ultra-Hybrids here?&rdquo;<br /><br />Dr. Henry set his book aside, &ldquo;I&rsquo;m trying to find a way to cure them of their condition, end the constant pain their under and undo Lusamine&rsquo;s damage.&rdquo;<br /><br />&ldquo;Why?&rdquo; Dee set her own bowl aside.<br /><br />&ldquo;Four reasons: first because Flash and Raelia asked me to, second because it gives me a reason to get up in the morning, third is that I want to get one more scientific achievement done in my life, and lastly it&rsquo;s a chance to stick it to Lusamine and her insane experiments one last time.&rdquo; Doctor Henry stood up, &ldquo; If you&rsquo;ll excuse me I need to check on my process before I turn in for the night. Thank you for supper, Alex.&rdquo; He and Calamity headed for his lab.<br /><br />As Dee watched the old human go she touched her middle, just over top of the belly she&rsquo;s been gaining for the last few weeks. Her Ultra-Parasite was dead but she was the only one to ever survive and hybridize from the experiments, maybe&hellip;<br /><br />Dee whipped her head around as she saw one of the Hybrids peeking in and it quickly pulled back out of sight, but not before Dee saw the pain in its eyes. Horrifying as the memories were, the hybrids were victims as she was, but much worse off as they were stuck in a limbo mid-mutation and even in that brief moment she could feel the pain it must have been suffering.<br /><br />Dee stood up as Alex and Lloyd gathered the dishes, &ldquo;Excuse me, I need to talk to the doctor,&rdquo; then followed them into the lab.<br /><br />&ldquo;Excuse me, Doctor.&rdquo; Dee&rsquo;s voice made Dr. Henry turn from the notes he was checking and saving at his computer, &ldquo;I want help if I can.&rdquo;<br /><br />&ldquo;Do you know anything about science or medicine?&rdquo; Dr. Henry sounded skeptical.<br /><br />&ldquo;Some science, not like what you&rsquo;d know, but that&rsquo;s not why,&rdquo; she placed a hand above her stomach again and gulped as she had to force herself to continue, &ldquo;I&rsquo;m one of Lusamine&rsquo;s experiments.&rdquo; Dr. Henry&rsquo;s eyes went wide as Dee continued, &ldquo; She created me from an old blood sample and put an Ultra-Parasite inside me. When I hybridized into a Riolu-woman it made the parasite weaker and stable so I never got deformed. The parasite died to protect me from the disaster at Galar but I survived and&hellip; if there&rsquo;s anything I or my body can do to help then I want to help her other victims if I can.&rdquo;<br /><br />Dr. Henry turned his chair to fully face her, &ldquo; Are you serious? You survived that process?&rdquo; Dee nodded and wiped away the few tears that had formed.<br /><br />&ldquo;That&rsquo;s an incredible thing if it&rsquo;s true, but we&rsquo;d have to run some tests,&rdquo; Calamity floated over.<br /><br />&ldquo;It might just be the breakthrough we&rsquo;re looking for,&rdquo; Dr. Henry smiled, which made Calamity recoil from the unfamiliar sight, &ldquo; Not tonight though, get some rest and come back in the morning. If you don&rsquo;t want to sleep around the Ultra-Hybrids then you and your friends can share out the four private cabins in the yard, just watch for the Dubwool. They can withstand the cold but get ornery if you wake them.&rdquo;<br /><br />Dee gave a weak smile, &ldquo;Yes, I&rsquo;ll be back tomorrow.&rdquo;</span>",
