split off, a divide that may never be mended", "writing": "A/N: Just to everyone who reads this, I was thinking about this for a while and only just got the idea fully formed in my head when I went to bed earlier after not being able to sleep all night. I was probably going to work on this after I finished Book 4 but I had a sudden burst of energy I had to direct somewhere so I decided to write up a storm instead of anything else like games.\n\n[center][b][u]Free Love, Exile and Rebirth[/u][/b][/center]\n\nThe Care Bear Family, a collection of multicolored animals who live in the clouds and help others to share their feelings. Among them are: The Care Bears, who are only bears and live in Care-a-Lot and The Care Bear Cousins, animals of a different nature who live in the Forest of Feelings. But, there is a third group that the Care Bears do not like to speak of anymore…\n\nThe Care Bear Magi, bears and cousins gifted with different powers than the rest of the family. Through either training, magic or a gift from their Great Wishing Star, the Care Bear Magi has powers to protect the rest of the Care Bear Family and they chose to take up residence in the Care Castle. Once a nursery for the Care Cubs when they first came to the Kingdom of Caring it now served as a massive base and haven for the Care Bear Magi, where they chose to lead their lives in their own unique ways.\n\nHowever, their unique way of living hasn’t sat well with most of the rest of the Care Bear Family, and now a divide will be forged that might never be mended…\n\n[center][u]Chapter 1: Voluntary Exile[/u][/center]\n\n“What do you mean we can’t practise free love anymore!” Love Heart Bear slammed his fist down on the heart shaped meeting table in the Hall of Heart, which made every Care Bear Family member present jump.\n\n“Calm down, Love Heart,” Brave Heart tried to pull his friend back down but Love Heart just jerked away from the tawny male lion.\n\n“Why the hell should I calm down!?” Love Heart demanded, the normally green fur on his face seeming to turn red with rage.\n\n“Because you’re making a scene,” Tenderheart, the brown male leader of the Care Bears, gave the green bear a stern look.\n\nLove Heart growled but sat down, stroking over the symbol on his chest: a large heart with three smaller pink hearts diagonally aligned inside of it and surrounded by twelve smaller red hearts.\n\n“Listen, Love Heart, The Care Bear Family has an image to maintain and your actions might have a negative impact on how humans view us,” Tenderheart tapped the table in front of him. “The fact is, most of the children we help come from cultures where love is practiced between couples and polygamy and ‘free love’ are seen as deviant.”\n\n“So some moral guardians complained and now we have to change our entire lives!?” this shout came from a badger named Defiant Heart, a female badger with unusually broad shoulders and rather large breasts with a pirate flag with crossed swords and a heart instead of a skull spread across her cleavage for a symbol.\n\nIt was a somewhat odd detail that the Care Bear Magi looked more anatomically correct than the rest of the Care Bear Family, who had the proportions of stuffed animals and symbols on their tummies. The Magi, on the other hand, had symbols on their chests, most notably for the girls it was often nestled in or just above their cleavage.\n\n“Hush,” the voice came from a blue raccoon woman name Guidance Heart as she pulled Defiant back to his seat, which he grudgingly allowed. She was one of the more modest looking Magi with a heart shaped compass for a chest symbol. She sat next to her mate, Anger Heart Fox, a male red fox with two tails and a heart with a fire burning inside of it for his symbol.\n\n“This isn’t just about moral guardians,” Brave Heart’s ignored the scoffing noise that came from his left, “This is about us needing kids and adults to trust us and accept our help without putting ourselves in trouble.”\n\n“Oh and what about them and their tickle sessions?” This voice belonged to the one who had made the scoffing noise, Confidence Heart Fennec as she pointed to a group of four bears: Aqua Bear, a blue bear with a dolphin jumping through a hoop of fire for a tummy symbol; Lonesomeheart Bear, a hot pink bear with a scattering of hearts for a tummy symbol; Shimmeringstar Bear, a lightly tan bear with a three pointed star for a tummy symbol; and Redemptionheart Bear, a grey bear with purple hands, feet and a tuft of purple hair on her head whose symbol was a cross on a cloud with a rainbow in the background on her pink tummy, where most Care Bear had a white tummy.\n\n“Tickle torture is fun!” Redemptionheart giggled, “why else would they be laughing all the time?”\n\n“Yeah, maybe you need some to loosen up,” Lonesomeheart gave a somewhat malicious look to Confidence Heart.\n\n“They’re not the ones we’re talking about and what they do is perfectly acceptable,” Tenderheart said.\n\n“It’s still torture,” Confidence Heart sat back down and just glared at the foursome, who were somewhat infamous in the Care Bear Family for taking other family members, or sometimes even children who came to visit them for help and hiding them somewhere where they would be tied down and tickled for hours at a time to help them loosen up.\n\nConfidence Heart looked down at herself. She had sandy yellow fur and a blue ribbon with a heart inside for a chest symbol, and another feature that got her riled up even more. “And what about these!” She pointed to her chest with her arms, for Confidence Heart was another unusual case in that she had four breasts, not too large but still very evident as they stuck out from her chest, “Are you gonna say being a mammal is a crime too?!”\n\nNo one said it was a crime!” Brave Heart’s voice shot up as he stood up. “We’re just… trying to make sure we aren’t rejected or banned anywhere for-”\n\n“Choosing to live differently?” Love Heart cut him off. He looked out at the rest of the assembly, skimming over most of the family to see the Magi in the crowd: Defiant Heart Badger, Anger Heart Fox, Guidance Heart Raccoon, a brown female lynx named Calm Heart who had a heart shaped lake for a chest symbol, his little sister a pink winged horse named Sweet Heart Pegasus with a wrapped piece of candy for her chest symbol, a white male arctic fox named Snowy Heart who had a snowing cloud for his chest symbol, and his first mate Confidence Heart Fennec.\n\nTenderheart pressed on, trying to ignore the outburst, “Confidence Heart does bring up a good point, you will all have to adjust your appearances so you don’t appear to be too sexualized to the humans you meet and-”\n\n“No.” Though he didn’t raise his voice, Love Heart’s tone allowed it to carry across the rest of the hall of hearts. Before anyone could raise a protest, Love Heart continued, “If you won’t let us live how we choose to live, then we’re leaving.”\n\n“What?” Tenderheart turned to stare at Love Heart.\n\n“What?!” Brave Heart jumped out of his seat.\n\n“WHAT?!” everyone else in the hall shouted.\n\nLove Heart wasn’t deterred, “We already live away from the rest of the Care Bears and Cousins so why not take it all the way?” He spread his arms, “You can already deal with No-Heart and Cold Heart just fine on your own so I don’t see why you even need us anymore.” He clenched his fists then sighed and relaxed his arms, “If we’re not allowed to live how we want in your kingdom, we’re going to leave and make our own place. Then you won’t have to worry about us giving you a bad reputation.” Love Heart stepped away from his chair at the head of the table and started to leave when Brave Heart grabbed his arm.\n\n“Love Heart, please let’s talk about this.” The lion pleaded, but Love Heart just wrenched his arm away from him.\n\n“No, no more talking. It’s time to decide.” He turned his back to Brave Heart, “You all made your decision and we’re making ours.” He walked away.\n\nAs Love Heart passed by each of the Magi, each of them stood up and joined to follow after him. No one in the Hall of Heart said anything but Redemptionheart Bear gave them a sinister look then turned to talk to Aqua and Lonesome. Shimmeringstar turned to talk to his mate Wish Bear.\n\nThe Care Bear Magi walked out of the Hall of Hearts and towards the castle where they all lived in silence. Though they had their reservations, Love Heart’s point had been made and while it was going to be difficult they agreed that his decision was likely best for all of them.\n\nIt wasn’t until they had reached the entrance to the Caring Castle that they heard someone running up behind them, “Confidence! Wait!”\n\nConfidence Heart turned to see Champ Bear running up to her. He was a yellow bear wearing a red headband and letter jacket with a tummy symbol that consisted of a trophy stamped with a small red heart. He wasn’t even winded when he slowed down to talk to Confidence Heart. “Can we talk for a minute, please?”\n\n“Sure,” Confidence Heart gave Love Heart a small kiss then turned to Champ as the rest of the Magi went inside the castle.\n\n“Are you really going to leave?” Champ Bear asked. He and Confidence were long time friends, bonding over their love of sports at first but growing into something more as she even taught him martial arts.\n\nConfidence nodded, “Yeah. We’re not going to let that old fuddy duddy, or anyone else, tell us how we’re allowed to live.”\n\n“Oh…” Champ stared down at his feet then looked back up at her, “Could I come with you?”\n\n“What?” Confidence Heart blinked.\n\n“I want to come with you, Confidence!” Champ suddenly stepped forwards and gave Confidence Heart a kiss on the lips. He pulled back a moment later but Confidence Heart just stood stunned for a moment.\n\nConfidence gave a small smile, “Thanks. But what about Cheer? I thought you two were a couple.”\n\n“We were…” Champ sighed, “It’s not because of you, we just kept drifting apart recently and… Well we broke up last month. I think she’s just wants to be single for now.”\n\n“Oh…” Confidence Heart put a hand on his shoulder, “And you want to come with us because you want to my mate?” she gave a slight smile.\n\nChamp chuckled, “Heheh, yeah kinda.”\n\n“Alright then, just get your things and come back to meet us. Knowing Love Heart we’ll be out of here in no time.”\n\nChamp smiled then gave Confidence Heart a big hug and kiss, “Great! I’ll be back soon.”\n\nConfidence watched him go for a moment then turned an entered the castle. Love Heart was waiting for her inside the entrance, “Don’t you think that was a bit hasty?”\n\nConfidence shrugged, “Maybe, but I don’t think he’ll really come with us. He’ll probably get cold feet when he gets home and decide not to leave.” Confidence gave Love Heart a slight kiss, “What did you parents and Caduceus say?”\n\n“I’m about to tell them.” He gave her a kiss back then turned to go tell them.\n\nLove Heart and Sweet Heart’s parents were Sage Heart Bear, an iridescent blue male bear with a heart made of rainbow colored dust for a chest symbol, and Life Heart Unicorn, a green female unicorn with silver hair and tail tuft and a tree with heart shaped fruit for a chest symbol. Their conversation with their son happened behind closed doors and ended with Love Heart leaving them to pack and check on everyone else.\n\nLove Heart’s last stop was in their first aid room to see Caduceus Bear packing up her medical supplies. Caduceus was a lavender colored female bear who had a yellow and green winged staff for a symbol, with the wings resting atop her fairly large breasts and the pole running between them.\n\nCaduceus turned when Love Heart entered and smiled, “Hey, Love Heart. Everything alright?”\n\n“Yeah, a bit rough but I think I made the right choice. You sure you sure you want to come with us?” he asked.\n\nCaduceus giggled and walked over to put her hands on Love Heart’s shoulders, “Redemptionheart can handle being the doctor here, like she wanted. I’m not sticking around regardless so I might as well go with you.”\n\nLove Heart smiled, “Thank you,” they kissed, “I need to go pack, hopefully we’ll be able to leave soon.”\n\n“No problem.” Caduceus turned back to her packing.\n\nOoOoO\n\nChamp was going over things in his head as he packed, stopped packing, then started again. Did he really want to leave with them? His break up with Cheer had felt final but not because it was violent, but rather because it was subdued. They had fought in the past, said things they regretted then gotten back together, but last month?\n\nLast month they had gotten together in a park on earth, talked, discussed, and ultimately because they cared for each other, decided to part amiably. It wasn’t because Champ had an attraction to Confidence, though that had caused a fight or two before, but because they recognized their argumentative relationship was unhealthy. It seemed to have stuck for both of them, often it didn’t even take a week for them to apologize, kiss and make up but this time, they hadn’t spent time alone together for a month. It wasn’t like they were deliberately avoiding each other, they just didn’t think to seek each other out and when they ended up being close together in meetings or eating they just made small barely-there conversations.\n\nBut did he really want to leave?\n\nHis question was put on hold as he heard someone enter his home and he turned to answer. He wasn’t expecting to be ambushed by Aqua Bear, Lonesomeheart and Redemptionheart and pinned down.\n\nChamp gasped, “What the?!”\n\nAqua giggled, “We heard you wanted to leave with the Magi. Why do you want to leave us, Champ?”\n\n“I think you need some therapy,” Redemptionheart tickled Champ under his arm.\n\n“Yeah, a nice way to remind you why you should stay here,” Lonesomeheart giggled.\n\n“What! No!” Champ was strong enough to force the three off then make a run for the door. Only for a blast of magic form Aqua to stop him dead in his tracks and freeze him in a block of ice, with only his head, hands and feet exposed. He tried to struggle free but the trio just pushed him out of his front door, the ice sliding easily across the ground.\n\n“Don’t worry, you’ll feel so much better when we’re done, in a few days, or maybe weeks since Cheer isn’t looking for you,” Redemptionheart giggled. He looked out at the rest of the assembly, skimming over most of the family to see the Magi in the crowd: Defiant Heart Badger, Anger Heart Fox, Guidance Heart Raccoon, a brown female lynx named Calm Heart who had a heart shaped lake for a chest symbol, his little sister a pink winged horse named Sweet Heart Pegasus with a wrapped piece of candy for her chest symbol, a white male arctic fox named Snowy Heart who had a snowing cloud for his chest symbol, and his first mate Confidence Heart Fennec.

Tenderheart pressed on, trying to ignore the outburst, “Confidence Heart does bring up a good point, you will all have to adjust your appearances so you don’t appear to be too sexualized to the humans you meet and-”

“No.” Though he didn’t raise his voice, Love Heart’s tone allowed it to carry across the rest of the hall of hearts. Before anyone could raise a protest, Love Heart continued, “If you won’t let us live how we choose to live, then we’re leaving.”

“What?” Tenderheart turned to stare at Love Heart.

“What?!” Brave Heart jumped out of his seat.

“WHAT?!” everyone else in the hall shouted.

Love Heart wasn’t deterred, “We already live away from the rest of the Care Bears and Cousins so why not take it all the way?” He spread his arms, “You can already deal with No-Heart and Cold Heart just fine on your own so I don’t see why you even need us anymore.” He clenched his fists then sighed and relaxed his arms, “If we’re not allowed to live how we want in your kingdom, we’re going to leave and make our own place. Then you won’t have to worry about us giving you a bad reputation.” Love Heart stepped away from his chair at the head of the table and started to leave when Brave Heart grabbed his arm.

“Love Heart, please let’s talk about this.” The lion pleaded, but Love Heart just wrenched his arm away from him.

“No, no more talking. It’s time to decide.” He turned his back to Brave Heart, “You all made your decision and we’re making ours.” He walked away.

As Love Heart passed by each of the Magi, each of them stood up and joined to follow after him. No one in the Hall of Heart said anything but Redemptionheart Bear gave them a sinister look then turned to talk to Aqua and Lonesome. Shimmeringstar turned to talk to his mate Wish Bear.

The Care Bear Magi walked out of the Hall of Hearts and towards the castle where they all lived in silence. Though they had their reservations, Love Heart’s point had been made and while it was going to be difficult they agreed that his decision was likely best for all of them.

It wasn’t until they had reached the entrance to the Caring Castle that they heard someone running up behind them, “Confidence! Wait!”

Confidence Heart turned to see Champ Bear running up to her. He was a yellow bear wearing a red headband and letter jacket with a tummy symbol that consisted of a trophy stamped with a small red heart. He wasn’t even winded when he slowed down to talk to Confidence Heart. “Can we talk for a minute, please?”

“Sure,” Confidence Heart gave Love Heart a small kiss then turned to Champ as the rest of the Magi went inside the castle.

“Are you really going to leave?” Champ Bear asked. He and Confidence were long time friends, bonding over their love of sports at first but growing into something more as she even taught him martial arts.

Confidence nodded, “Yeah. We’re not going to let that old fuddy duddy, or anyone else, tell us how we’re allowed to live.”

“Oh…” Champ stared down at his feet then looked back up at her, “Could I come with you?”

“What?” Confidence Heart blinked.

“I want to come with you, Confidence!” Champ suddenly stepped forwards and gave Confidence Heart a kiss on the lips. He pulled back a moment later but Confidence Heart just stood stunned for a moment.

Confidence gave a small smile, “Thanks. But what about Cheer? I thought you two were a couple.”

“We were…” Champ sighed, “It’s not because of you, we just kept drifting apart recently and… Well we broke up last month. I think she’s just wants to be single for now.”

“Oh…” Confidence Heart put a hand on his shoulder, “And you want to come with us because you want to my mate?” she gave a slight smile.

Champ chuckled, “Heheh, yeah kinda.”

“Alright then, just get your things and come back to meet us. Knowing Love Heart we’ll be out of here in no time.”

Champ smiled then gave Confidence Heart a big hug and kiss, “Great! I’ll be back soon.”

Confidence watched him go for a moment then turned an entered the castle. Love Heart was waiting for her inside the entrance, “Don’t you think that was a bit hasty?”

Confidence shrugged, “Maybe, but I don’t think he’ll really come with us. He’ll probably get cold feet when he gets home and decide not to leave.” Confidence gave Love Heart a slight kiss, “What did you parents and Caduceus say?”

“I’m about to tell them.” He gave her a kiss back then turned to go tell them.

Love Heart and Sweet Heart’s parents were Sage Heart Bear, an iridescent blue male bear with a heart made of rainbow colored dust for a chest symbol, and Life Heart Unicorn, a green female unicorn with silver hair and tail tuft and a tree with heart shaped fruit for a chest symbol. Their conversation with their son happened behind closed doors and ended with Love Heart leaving them to pack and check on everyone else.

Love Heart’s last stop was in their first aid room to see Caduceus Bear packing up her medical supplies. Caduceus was a lavender colored female bear who had a yellow and green winged staff for a symbol, with the wings resting atop her fairly large breasts and the pole running between them.

Caduceus turned when Love Heart entered and smiled, “Hey, Love Heart. Everything alright?”

“Yeah, a bit rough but I think I made the right choice. You sure you sure you want to come with us?” he asked.

Caduceus giggled and walked over to put her hands on Love Heart’s shoulders, “Redemptionheart can handle being the doctor here, like she wanted. I’m not sticking around regardless so I might as well go with you.”

Love Heart smiled, “Thank you,” they kissed, “I need to go pack, hopefully we’ll be able to leave soon.”

“No problem.” Caduceus turned back to her packing.

Champ was going over things in his head as he packed, stopped packing, then started again. Did he really want to leave with them? His break up with Cheer had felt final but not because it was violent, but rather because it was subdued. They had fought in the past, said things they regretted then gotten back together, but last month?

Last month they had gotten together in a park on earth, talked, discussed, and ultimately because they cared for each other, decided to part amiably. It wasn’t because Champ had an attraction to Confidence, though that had caused a fight or two before, but because they recognized their argumentative relationship was unhealthy. It seemed to have stuck for both of them, often it didn’t even take a week for them to apologize, kiss and make up but this time, they hadn’t spent time alone together for a month. It wasn’t like they were deliberately avoiding each other, they just didn’t think to seek each other out and when they ended up being close together in meetings or eating they just made small barely-there conversations.

But did he really want to leave?

His question was put on hold as he heard someone enter his home and he turned to answer. He wasn’t expecting to be ambushed by Aqua Bear, Lonesomeheart and Redemptionheart and pinned down.

Champ gasped, “What the?!”

Aqua giggled, “We heard you wanted to leave with the Magi. Why do you want to leave us, Champ?”

“I think you need some therapy,” Redemptionheart tickled Champ under his arm.

“Yeah, a nice way to remind you why you should stay here,” Lonesomeheart giggled.

“What! No!” Champ was strong enough to force the three off then make a run for the door. Only for a blast of magic form Aqua to stop him dead in his tracks and freeze him in a block of ice, with only his head, hands and feet exposed. He tried to struggle free but the trio just pushed him out of his front door, the ice sliding easily across the ground.

“Don’t worry, you’ll feel so much better when we’re done, in a few days, or maybe weeks since Cheer isn’t looking for you,” Redemptionheart giggled.
