It is a series where I draw a member of each vulture subspecies humping my eagle, 23 species total, so 23 pictures all in all. \n\n50% of the 75 votes cast out of 10 options went for the good ol' griffon vulture, which did make me wonder... did more than a few mistake the word 'griffon' for 'griffin/gryphon' once again? They're not the same, guys. I'm sure that wasn't the case, though. There's no way 50% of the voting populace could be so stoooopid.\n\nOh.\n\nOh wait.\n\n----------------------------------------------\n\nThe griffon vulture, AKA Eurasian griffon vulture, AKA Gyps fulvus, (though not AKA Vultur gryphus, as that's an Andean condor. Haahaa, fuck you scientists). They happen to be my favorite vulture, and I almost debated on even having their name in the poll yet, as they tend to be my default vulture to draw fucking my eagle anyway, but apparently people wanted to see more!\n\nI couldn't agree more. They are what you'd imagine a \"vulture\" to look like. Long neck, bare head, Hunched posture. Generally their wingspan is about 2.3-2.8m (7'7''-9'2''), and usually weigh about 6.5-10.5kg (11-23lb). In captivity, a large individual may weight up to 15kg! Again for reference, Sawyer here weighs about 5kg/11lb, so imagine that chonker on top of him. They can live to their late 30s, some might exceed even 40. Currently they're doing very well also, with about 40 000 breeding pairs in Europe alone.\n\nThey're old world vultures, and live around the latitude of Spain, Turkey, and northern India. As all vultures, they are scavengers, living in loose colonies and nesting on cliffs and mountainsides. They're highly social vultures, too. I mean, look at him socializing with my boy here. Luckily Sawyer is also a cunning linguist.\n\nFemales aren't much different from the males in size or behavior, so there is no sexual dysmorphism present within the species.
