"writing": "Standing under the shower and opening up the flow of steamy, hot water is one of the most universally loved feelings in the world. It has the ability to relax anyone pretty much instantly, and that includes Marion, who did just that on that one fateful night. It was just like all the other nights in every other regard: the squirrel stripped naked after a long, tiresome day, struggled with the cold for the few seconds he found his way into the shower stall, then shivered in pleasure as his dirty, musky fur was hit by the warm water, his fluffy body pulling it in like a sponge.\n\n\nThis was one of the good things about having turned into a squirrel- he thought to himself while he let the water run. Of course, squeezing all of it out of his fur afterwards was a different topic, but he preferred not to get caught up with the stressful stuff ahead of time. Just gave him all the more reasons to stay under for even longer.\n\n\nMarion still did think a lot about his transformation, mainly in terms of changing back… He never really accepted his new identity as a female squirrel, and lived his life believing that someday, anyday, there would come an opportunity for him to transform back. Just as quickly and effortlessly as he transformed into his current form.\n\n\nBecause of this feeling of temporariness, Marion never bothered to make any changes to his house either, to better accommodate for someone who had a thick fur coat covering him, as opposed to just bare skin and some body hair. One of the appliances that ended up suffering the most from this decision was the shower itself: the drain certainly did not appreciate being stuffed full of fur all the time, and although the squirrel cleaned it almost every day, there was always just more and more in there when he opened it up to check the next day.\n\n\nThat was definitely NOT good for the plumbing of the house, but there were never any heavy consequences for it either, aside from some mild pipe blockage… Until that night. Because it was always going to happen. The more he let the problem on its own, the likelier it became, and it was so much worse than he could have imagined at first. Because unbeknownst to Marion, his fur had some remarkably special properties.\n\n\nSo as he was taking his shower, some strange, unfamiliar gurgling noises could be heard from below. The squirrel looked down to see what was going on, but couldn’t see anything special, aside from some water pooling up at the bottom- which was pretty usual towards the end of a shower, and was resolved after the routine drain cleaning. But this soon proved to be a different beast, as the pumping, gurgling noises got louder and louder, and suddenly water started coming up from the drain, quickly beginning to fill the watertight shower stall.\n\n\nMarion awkwardly scrubbed himself all over with soap after having realized he’d only had water on himself until then. He wanted to complete the shower as soon as possible before things got out of hand, but he might have already been late with that: even though he had turned off the shower, the stall just kept filling and filling from the bottom, as what seemed like a bubble of water was emerging from the messed up drain.\n\n\n“What is happening…” He muttered to himself, before taking a deep breath and crouching down to try to pull out the filter, before too much water came up and trapped him. Since the shower stall had to be installed in a very tight spot, he opted to have the door open inwards instead of outwards, and that would have been impossible with too much water pressing outwards on the door.\n\n\n“Mbbrbbbraagr…” Marion exhaled loudly as he went under the surface; he always seemed to do that without even realizing it, sort of as a way to prevent water entering up his nostrils. He always hated going underwater for that reason precisely, so the thought of his shower stall filling up was even scarier because of this.\n\n\nUnfortunately for him though, the filter was already stuck in place, held there by all the hair around it, and the pressure of the water on top. The squirrel cursed and stood up, trying to open the door, but that was useless now as well: he had underestimated the pace at which the water came up, and that left the water bubble getting to big way too fast, almost reaching up to his neck now.\n\n\nHe tried putting all of his body weight to it, but trying to get it to open was now officially useless: the force required to fight this much water was way beyond what a skinny rodent was able to produce. Marion, now starting to properly panic, began banging on the glass, but the reinforced material didn’t want to crack, and since he was all alone, no one could have heard to come to his rescue. His fate was already sealed.\n\n\n“This can’t be, this can’t be…” The squirrel whispered as he stepped on his tiptoes to catch some breath. The bubble was growing massive with no signs of slowing down, pressing out the air from the rest of the stall through the holes at the top. Whatever remained inside though, was hot, humid and almost suffocating, not even allowing Marion to catch a proper final breath before having to go down beneath the surface.\n\n\n“GASSSSPPP” He opened his mouth as wide as he could before taking the breath. Thinking about it, he didn’t even remember when was the last time he was forced to do it… He didn’t have much practice, and definitely wasn’t very good at it. This was a question of life or death though, and so he inhaled as much air as he could, until he felt like his lungs were going to burst, and then the water finally encompassed his entire head. He was finally left breathless, looking around anxiously with massive, puffed cheeks to carry even more air than his lungs could handle.\n\n\nHis lungs were already burning and wanted to cough, the moment the young squirrel went under the water. He was floating above the ground, his slender limbs gently waving to keep him balanced, as turning too much to the side would have probably filled up his nose. There had to be another way of getting out of there… There’s no way the designers failed to think of this…\n\n\n“Gbbrrrbbbbll…” He thought out loud as he swam around the bubble, hitting, pushing and pulling on different things in the shower to see if he could find anything weak or vulnerable. The stall seemed to be very well built however, and all the struggling just made him lose even more oxygen, and in a while, even his big squirrel cheeks deflated. “Mmmbbbrbbbbbrr….”\n\n\nMarion was never great at holding his breath, and not even his life suddenly being on the line made him improve at it either. As much as he tried to keep his precious last breath inside of his lungs, at seemingly every turn, ticklish bubbles left his mouth and nostrils, floating to the surface as if they teased how they’ll never be his again.\n\n\n“Mmmbbrrrmmlll…” The squirrel was getting desperate now, starting to struggle against the door again. His lungs were properly stinging, and his movements were starting to get more and more erratic as he had trouble controlling his burning muscles with the lack of oxygen.\n\n\n“Pffttbbbrbbr!” Came a couple more bubbles slowly to the surface, but this time, they didn’t come from his nose OR his mouth… Getting more and more nervous, Marion was now beginning to produce some gas, making his body even less buoyant now that there was nothing in his guts anymore. “Ppprrrtt….”\n\n\n“Mmffff!”\n\n\n“There we go, this is what I wanted to avoid…” The rodent thought to himself as he felt some water accidentally enter up his nostrils besides his best efforts, feeling awfully stingy in there, and making him want to sneeze and cough. That would have resulted in losing all the air in his lungs though, so he tried his very best not to let it happen. He exhaled some more, hoping it would solve the issue. “Brrbbmmmrr…”\n\n\n“Mbbrbbl… Mmmh mmmhh?” If only there was someone out there, he thought, desperately trying to call for a saviour as it became obvious he wouldn’t be able to save himself. It was a delirious assumption, as he was completely convinced that he was alone in the house, but at that point, the best he could have done was hoping for a miracle.\n\n\nAnd hope for a miracle he did, and kept calling for it loudly, for as long as his lungs could handle it. “Mbbmmbbbbrrbbb!!!! Brmbbbbb!! Mh mh mhhhh!” He begged, pleaded anyone to hear him… Maybe the neighbors, maybe someone on the street… Maybe he left the window open!\n\n\n“Mmmbbrbbmm…. mm..” But those were the very last bubbles left in his lungs, and even they floated away after making the final desperate sounds for the drowning squirrel. It seemed as though they left his lungs in vain though, as no one seemed to hear those last, painful moans for air, and so, Marion was left alone to fight his last few seconds of consciousness.\n\n\nIf only drowning wasn’t one of the most painful tortures out there! Marion found it terribly unfair that he had come to meet this fate, and even though his body was begging him to breathe, he ended up jumping against the door once again, grabbing the handle and pulling on it with all his might. That was the last, final bit of power he could exert with his empty, aching lungs, but no more… At that moment, Marion felt like he had lost all his strength that one final, steamy breath left him before going under.\n\n\nHe sank to the floor, body twitching and chest convulsing, forcing him to take a big, massive breath of water, even though he tried fighting the urge to do it until then. As expected, it was terribly painful and stingy all the way up his widened, desperate nostrils, and it amde his lungs feel heavy and sluggish. Of course, it didn’t provide any additional oxygen to the rest of his body, but even felt like it took energy away from him, as the pain made it difficult to move. He couldn’t break the glass even if it was made of paper at that point… There was no longer any point for him to struggle for his freedom.\n\n\n“Blub… Blub…” These were the two last bubbles of oxygen that somehow still remained at the very bottom of his lungs until then, but the water pushed those out too. He wondered if there would be anything other than water in his lungs ever again… It seemed less and less likely with each passing second.\n\n\nThe squirrel was on the brink of passing out now, but almost as a cruel way to force him to bask in his destiny, his mind stayed conscious for a good couple of seconds. Marion was way too weak to move at that point, his body limp and on the floor, so he just silently looked up at the glowing lamp of his bathroom, which seemed to tease him from outside of the water filled stall. There was so much air outside… If only he could take a breath… Just one breath.\n\n\n“Prrbbtt…” Along with his consciousness, a couple of last bubbles escaped Marion’s butt as his insides relaxed, marking the end of his struggle. In just a few seconds, the squirrel’s lips stopped moving, and his chest stopped rising up and down as it inhaled its last bit of water in hopes of getting fresh oxygen in his blood. He had lost consciousness finally, and so, the pain had stopped; an infinite sense of peacefulness washed over him, warmth and calmness. It was still not too late to save him… But how would anyone ever find a drowning squirrel in his own, locked house?",

It was a delirious assumption, as he was completely convinced that he was alone in the house, but at that point, the best he could have done was hoping for a miracle.<br /><br /><br />And hope for a miracle he did, and kept calling for it loudly, for as long as his lungs could handle it. &ldquo;Mbbmmbbbbrrbbb!!!! Brmbbbbb!! Mh mh mhhhh!&rdquo; He begged, pleaded anyone to hear him&hellip; Maybe the neighbors, maybe someone on the street&hellip; Maybe he left the window open!<br /><br /><br />&ldquo;Mmmbbrbbmm&hellip;. mm..&rdquo; But those were the very last bubbles left in his lungs, and even they floated away after making the final desperate sounds for the drowning squirrel. It seemed as though they left his lungs in vain though, as no one seemed to hear those last, painful moans for air, and so, Marion was left alone to fight his last few seconds of consciousness.<br /><br /><br />If only drowning wasn&rsquo;t one of the most painful tortures out there! Marion found it terribly unfair that he had come to meet this fate, and even though his body was begging him to breathe, he ended up jumping against the door once again, grabbing the handle and pulling on it with all his might. That was the last, final bit of power he could exert with his empty, aching lungs, but no more&hellip; At that moment, Marion felt like he had lost all his strength that one final, steamy breath left him before going under.<br /><br /><br />He sank to the floor, body twitching and chest convulsing, forcing him to take a big, massive breath of water, even though he tried fighting the urge to do it until then. As expected, it was terribly painful and stingy all the way up his widened, desperate nostrils, and it amde his lungs feel heavy and sluggish. Of course, it didn&rsquo;t provide any additional oxygen to the rest of his body, but even felt like it took energy away from him, as the pain made it difficult to move. He couldn&rsquo;t break the glass even if it was made of paper at that point&hellip; There was no longer any point for him to struggle for his freedom.<br /><br /><br />&ldquo;Blub&hellip; Blub&hellip;&rdquo; These were the two last bubbles of oxygen that somehow still remained at the very bottom of his lungs until then, but the water pushed those out too. He wondered if there would be anything other than water in his lungs ever again&hellip; It seemed less and less likely with each passing second.<br /><br /><br />The squirrel was on the brink of passing out now, but almost as a cruel way to force him to bask in his destiny, his mind stayed conscious for a good couple of seconds. Marion was way too weak to move at that point, his body limp and on the floor, so he just silently looked up at the glowing lamp of his bathroom, which seemed to tease him from outside of the water filled stall. There was so much air outside&hellip; If only he could take a breath&hellip; Just one breath.<br /><br /><br />&ldquo;Prrbbtt&hellip;&rdquo; Along with his consciousness, a couple of last bubbles escaped Marion&rsquo;s butt as his insides relaxed, marking the end of his struggle. In just a few seconds, the squirrel&rsquo;s lips stopped moving, and his chest stopped rising up and down as it inhaled its last bit of water in hopes of getting fresh oxygen in his blood. He had lost consciousness finally, and so, the pain had stopped; an infinite sense of peacefulness washed over him, warmth and calmness. It was still not too late to save him&hellip; But how would anyone ever find a drowning squirrel in his own, locked house?</span>",
