THE DESIRED MATE CHAPTER FIVE What a horrible truck. The ride was a long one alright. You know what they say through the woods and all that to grans house. Sounds all magical and stuff but there was one thing missing from that story. The old beat up ford had seen better days. The air conditioner didn't even work. When she had asked Rafe about it his answer was simple. The truck was also his grans and he had tried to fix it by himself, never mind having not a mechanical back ground . This just means if he cant fix it than no one would. Feeling a bit odd at saying anything about his short coming Jane chose silence over hurting his feelings. I will just have to endure. Sweating was just a side effect of being so big i guess. Bitching would not help them now anyway. The only saving grace was the compassion he had for his grandmother. There relationship was vast and the love he had for her spoke to Jane. The stories about him scraping his knees and the care she took stitching him up was sweet. Had that been her father she would have been scolded for riding her bike off the past. Rafes grandmother simply stitched him up congratulating him on his new scars and replaced his broken bike. Rather Jane wanted to admit it or not she was jealous. Than again when Rafe was a little older. His grandmother caught Rafe with a local girl in the barn. They hadn't had sex but there was some heavy petting that happened. Chuckling at the thought of him getting caught she smiled. Apparently She wasn't mad at all. She just interrupted them and chose to talk to him and his friend about safe sex practice. The minuet she pulled out a condone and handed them to both the moment was over. No one in there right mind would feel all hot after that. Not only did she discuss the safe sex thing she had also told the kids to not worry shed be the look out. Rafe bellowed so loud it startled Jane. Continuing with she pointed to the bar door and said shed stay there all night if she had to while they did there thing. The mood was ruined and Rafes virginity stayed intact. OMG hahaha your grans was the best i swear to god Rafe i'm gonna die. Laughter became squeals and shrieks of pure embarrassing joy. Forgetting the heat Jane had become unaware of her discomfort. The heat was somehow gone the only evidence was the pink cheeks. So what happened to the girl after that ? Did you guys try for it again or what? Well i'm pretty sure we broke up because she never spoke to me again. Sad days really it was my first heart break. Grans said she wasn't in my future anyways. I've always thought the one id find would have to be just like my gran. So i kinda avoided dating after that. While all my friends dated one girl to the next I took my time. Never did find that girl and when gran died i've been left wondering what i should do. I did think Leann could be that girl but as it turns out she cared more for my billfold than my heart. Where I come from its not so much an attractive thing or anything. A relationship should be deeper. I'm part of a long line of people that put more stock into soulmates rather than attraction. Maybe i wanted that relationship to work I missed all the signs. You know the ones that tell you to run. What about you Jane? Tell me about yourself. Me, there isn't a lot to say. I did have a relationship for a time. He wasn't the best for me. Like yourself i didn't see how bad it was for me until it was too late. Man the things he used to say. Jane cringed a little but continued. Things were OK at first and then one day he changed. When we got to a point in everyone's relationship i wanted more. His idea of wanting more was to flaunt his money by buying me some ring i hated. I was treated like an object and not the kind anyone really wants to be. So it just didn't work. I had this idea of a simple life with simple taste i never felt comfortable with anything more. Simple is easy and plane could be too if you let it. Do you know what i like well i will tell you. I wanted a simple ring but one with love and a lot of thought. I wanted to belong to someone and i wanted kids. I'm afraid if i had he would have dumped me the minuet i wasn't perfect. One stretch mark or imperfection and its out with the old in with the new. I'm sorry about that. I shouldn't have pried. Look there is nothing wrong with simple. Nothing wrong in wanting to feel like you belong. If i had been there none of this would ever happened. If i had a girl like you of my very own you'd never feel the sting of tears caused by my hurting you ever. Well that's if you even wanted me that is. Hey how about we listen to some music. I have a tape we could really enjoy some happy vibes any ways. Yeah that's cool judging by the map we still have about two hours to kill. Rafe reached over and pushed play. What Jane heard was classical violin music. Beautiful and soft melody's filled the cabin. With the sun going down and the heat being replaced by cool air He mood had picked up slightly. Not much time had gone by before sleep showed its face. lulled by soft classical music Jane drifted off into peaceful slumber. Rafe was aware of every soft snore. every gentile noise that flowed out of the most beautiful creature he had ever seen. She was asleep with her head rested in his lap. Rafe hadn't realized when she had become so close to him. It was hard to watch the road. The temptation to look at her was great but his wolfs protective nature would not allow a single glance at her. The wolfs concern was to get her to the den safely and Rafe had to agree. What am i supposed to do? I've never been this close. Rafes wolf uttered one thought they could both agree on, mate her. The time leading up to his blood moon had been hard. Rafe could feel the pull to the wild. Hear the call to be free of the rushed world of the humans. To be safe within the blankets of the trees that surrounded his clan. He could feel the beast within him losing hope and raging. Without a she wolf the jig was up. The wolf would take over and Rafe would be the voice in the back of his wolfs mind. He had heard stories of what it was like to lose the battle to your wolf. The man Rafe saw turn ferrel spoke to Rafe before he turned. Rafe asked how it felt and what was the man going to do. With a heavy heart the man spoke gently. He told Rafe that the wolf and him were only half the picture and without the other half no man could be whole. Lets not let that happen he assured his wolf they would be whole they had to. The pull to the wild was too strong. Jane we're here. Jane stirred but seemed very unaware of where her head had ended up. As soon as her eyes opened she realized she had fallen asleep and her head migrated until it was placed with in his lap. Both horrified and pleased that shed been so close to the object of her desire she simply smiled and shyly apologized. Shed apologize for the intrusion into his personal space but would not be sorry she had been so close to him in such an intimate way. Taking a deep breath she sat up stretched and stepped out of the truck. That smell she knew it well. It was dark but when she looked up suspecting to see anything but the cabin in her dreams. I've been here before. I know this place. She took her shoes off and stuck her bare feet to the ground. The familiar texture of the moss beneath her feet confirmed that she was not only awake but at the very cabin that kept her up most nights. Rafe seemed concerned. He walked very gently in her direction never breaking eye contact. Standing in front of her Rafe asked what do you mean? Are you OK? Jane's eyes flashed with an emotion that was not easy to read. The expression soft but scared. He waited for her to utter one word anything but she did not. She just stood there motionless. Starring at the cabin in confusion. He realized the moment she snapped out of what ever it was. Jane paced and spoke in hushed tones. Trying to give her privacy he puropusly blocked out her words. Sure he could have easily used his very good wolf hearing in that moment but he knew it would be a huge mistake to do so. Jane was a private person. He would give her the respect she desurved. The respect she needed. Rafe i've been here before. I was here right here. The smells are the same. The moss is the same. I'M not sure how to explain this but its true. I feel like i know this place its a part of me. There is a wolf hes in pain hes always calling just over that ridge. Therese this man and we were um good buddies and a moon so bright you could reach out and touch it. and a field full of tall grass. I'm not crazy Rafe say something damn it. What is this and why the hell am i here? Jane just calm down. The cabin looks like any other cabin so maybe it just feels like you have been here. We can go inside and figure this out but i hardly think staying out here in the cold when its dark isn't the option. You've had a long trip and were both tired here just take my hand. Rafe waited until he saw her resolve melt before him. shed placed her tiny hind in his and they walked up to the cabin together. Things will look different when you get inside. Rafes wolf stirred inside feeling the need to protect her was so strong it was all he could do to keep the predator inside him from ripping through his skin and protecting there mate. Rafe whispered soothing words of encouragement before the wold sauntered off into the recess of his subconsciousness. He had to be the strong one in this situation. The man to tame his beast and the man that Jane needed. The house was dimly lit with only a fire going in the fire place as they walked through the door. Thank goodness he'd requested Soren to light it an hour before he'd gotten there. Had the house been pitch black he probably not been able to get a scared Jane to enter. Her fear however strange ,was warranted. He had never heard of a dream walker being born a human but here she was in the flesh. His mate had no clue shed done it but he was sure she had. The details she used told him that much. The fields the house the smells she had been here. She traveled through time and space between realms and landed in front of his cabin. This was turning out to be the most interesting thing he had ever witnessed, or ever would. Her strength was enormous. She had a gift that hadnt been seen in over a hundred years. His people spoke of dream walkers being the most feared and respected of all. A lot of the lore about them was lost with time but he'd figure out what she was and what her capabilities were. Most of all he'd figure out if she were a threat. Okay I will admit that most cabins look alike Jane cooed more to her self than Rafe. Waking up in a strange place didn't help. Jane scoffed her shoulders at what she precieved as silly thinking. Rafe knew different. He knew what she was even if she didn't. She was a Dream walker. Powerful , scary but beautiful and if he weren't sure before he was now. She was absolutely perfectly made for him and him alone. The only problem was she was powerful. With power comes danger. Danger he had no idea how to protect her from. People with this kind of gift was bound to get attention. With Rafes past attention wasn't exactly a good thing. The wrong kind of people may notice. People like the ones who killed his father. For over a hundred years this power has not one time manifested its self and how would a human get this gift? Where did it come from? There were more questions than answers. This made him uncomfortable in a whole new way. They would come for her. She was an asset. Her powers could be used to save or destroy any who stand in there way. So this is it your grans house? I love it. Seeing the state of the cabin was pretty sad but Jane could see the love that had lived within its walls. Cozy and worn. I feel a lot better but is there a place to get cleaned up? Where am I supposed to sleep? Oh this way Rafe walked her through the dark house to the master bedroom. Lamps were lit low and the room smelled of lavender. Sorin went the extra mile to make Jane feel right at home. This will be your room. There is a bathroom just past those doors and the closet is empty. I took the luxury of grabbing new towels and soaps along with a few other things before you arrival. I hope that was OK? Rafe felt naked in front of a curious Jane. Vulnerable in the most sublime way. This is so pretty but wouldn't you be more comfortable in here? After all this is your house. I could take the other bedroom if you'd like. Though I do believe you'd turn me down she said walking towards him. Jane walked stopping in front of Rafe. The look on her eyes had him day dreaming and in a daze. Rafe attempted to snap out of it. That is until she grabbed his shirt pulled him into her body and kissed him with a passion that burned his soul. Red hot heat surged from his body as he kissed her back. He would give himself to her in every way shed take him. Do anything shed ask him to. Be the man she wanted him to be. He at first contact was hers. A slave to her every desire. As soon as it began it was over they separated and the moment had passed. Thank you Rafe for everything. Rafe seeing this as a sign it was time to leave stepped towards the door. I should be thanking you pretty lady. Its been a long night I will get our stuff and you can get relaxed and settled in. Rafe walked down the familiar Dark halls. Thanking the universe she wanted him as much as he desired her. They would be mates. But first he had to do a little research into dream walkers. What they were and more importantly what they could do. Understanding this could help him protect her from others and his people from her if need be.
