Much of it down hill, if you can call it downhill, the incline was less than fifteen degrees, which is not much unless one was tired and had to walk uphill. Despite the complaints, they make their way to the mall with most of them pointing out that St. LoveJoys was across the street from the school.\n\nBut the mall was something else. Wandaline and Rosita have been there, as was Rosita when she was observing Fernando. The girls have been in malls in the USA and around the world, but this is the first time they were alone without their father, a rite of passage for many teens. \n\n“So where are we going?” Alejandra asks as they walk into the huge building.\n\n“The movie theaters are upstairs on the top floor.” Rosita answers as they walk to the escalators.\n\nThey all look up seeing the high floors mount up to a vast and tall space in which they were at the bottom. They all get on the escalators in a group of twos or threes with Rosita, Rachel and Wandaline leading the way.\n\n“How about we go shopping instead?” Daniela lets out.\n\nCandi agrees with, “Yeah, we have to get our school uniforms and things.”\n\n“Things? As walks go, the walk to the mall from Grandma’s house was five long blocks. Saturnina looks at her direction though unable to see a thing.

“You should not be hard on her if she can’t see. From the sound of it, Fernando has the same condition and he can’t see most of the time. “I’m waiting for clearance because of my head injury, but otherwise I’m clean.” Rosita tells them.

“What would happen if you get hit in the head again?” Lareina asks as if she is plotting.

“I might go into a coma again, I might even die. Either way, you lose Fernando because losing a twin is a loss many twins cannot handle. Proof – girls, how would you feel if you lost your twin?” Rosita says and asks.

“Devastated.” Bianca answers.

“I don’t think I can live without her.” Candi adds.

“I would feel like something is missing.” Angelica puts in her words.

Saturnina remains quiet.

“Looks like one of twins is quiet.” Rosita points out in sarcasm.

“Well, Saturnina?” Alejandra asks.

Saturnina lets out a frustrated sigh before answering, “I would die, alright! Angie is my eyes when I can’t see. She helps me get around when I can’t.”

“Now you would know how Fernando would feel like is something were to happen to me.” Rosita says.

“He was really down when you were in the hospital.” Rachel adds.

“I was down when he as in the hospital too, so it goes both ways.” Rosita points out.

“Yeah, Grandma whipped your tail something good for snapping at her.” Rachel says.

“Some things are better left unsaid.” Rosita tells her.

“Grandma whips you guys?” Gabriela asks.

“She does when she has too.” Rosita answers.

“Just that. There are certain rules in the house that you do not break. Breaking any of them will get your tail whipped.” Rosita answers.

“Disrespecting Grandma is the first one.” Rachel adds.

“Let them figure it out.” Rosita tells her.

“Yeah, we’ll figure them out.” Alejandra says.

A few more minutes, Lariena takes Daniela out from the table to step out for a moment, to get some cash from an ATM machine for cash to take care of their meal. They return to their table in under a minute. The girls themselves are mostly finished with their meals and are waiting for the bill and a clean up crew.

It takes them a few more minutes to gather of their things while the three oldest girls go over the bill before paying it. The group waits outside as Alejandra, Gabriela and
Lareina take care of their bill and tip the staff.

Once outside, Rosita ad Rachel lead them through the parking lot and to the street perpendicular to their street. They stand at the edge of the curb.

“That is St Love Joys, it’s just to show you how close we are to the school from home.” Rosita explains, adding as she points, “Behind the school in that direction is the school and community outdoor swimming pool. Though the blocks were few, they were also long, making what would be a quarter mile trip in New York City into something much longer but not quite a half-mile. They were entering the gate of their home in under ten minutes.

Fernando was lying down on the sofa watching TV as Rosita walked into the house with the others following her. The girls look at him before heading down to the basement to put away their things, as does Rosita goes up stairs to their room. Rachel walks over and sits by Fernando.

“Just tired.” Fernando answers.

“If it weren’t so crowded, I would offer up some nookie for you.” Rachel says.

The girls come up from the basement as Rosita comes down from their room. Rachel manages a quick kiss before they arrive on the main floor. One of the girls guides Saturnina to one of the chairs in the living room and sits her in it.

Another girl (Lariena) tells her, “Since you do not want to come see the movie, you can stay here and wait for us to return listening to the TV.”

“Alright. If we are ready to go, lets go.” Another girl (Alejandra) says.

“Want me to bring anything back?” Rachel asks Fernando.

“No, not really.” Fernando says.

“Alright. We should be back before Grandma comes back to make dinner.” Rachel tells him before hopping off the sofa, and gathers herself with the other girls.

Together as a group they all walk out of the house.

Fernando continues to lays on the sofa, but looking at Saturnina as she looks back at him through their dark glasses.
