"writing": "Chapter 59: School Days... The Orientation.\n\nThe Cadillac SUV pulls into a parking slot in closest to the school building in the faculty parking lot. As soon as the engine is turned off, the doors open and the occupants inside step out onto the asphalt of the parking area. They all look around at the school and its immense size though the buildings were short, maximum four stories compared to what they were used to seeing in New York City.\n\nThe girls slowly gathered around Fernando as he got out of the SUV. Dr. Leary joins them from her side of the vehicle. She takes him by his arm as he takes out his cane. They start walking to the main entrance of the school building. Once she tell Rachel where to go once they turn the corner from the faculty parking lot, and start taking a slower stride.\n\nOnce they get with in visual range of the main entrance, Fernando tells the girls to go head of him and see if the doors are open. The older girls walk a bit faster, then jog to the main entrance. They stop as the doors open before they get half way to it. A few of the school staff step out onto the steps that lead to the doors. The girls wait for the others to catch up behind them. Tonya and Francis run up to catch up to their sisters. Rachel leads Fernando to the front of the group with Dr. Leary catching up to them as they gathered.\n\n“Welcome to St. Lovejoy.”, the panda bear of the group says out loud.\n\nFernando walks to steps and stops when his cane hits the first rise. “Who’s leading this orientation?”, he asks.\n\n“That depends. Everyone will be taking their turn for their part of the school.”, the panda bear answers.\n\n“And who you would be?”, Fernando asks as he hears Dr. Leary walk up behind him.\n\n“I’m Mr. Bear. I’m the principal of this school.”, Mr. Bear answers.\n\n“Then lets get this started. I need to go home and take my meds in a couple of hours.”, Fernando tells him.\n\n“Alright then, follow me.”, Mr. Bear says. He was about to turn around when he hears a loud “*AHEM!!!*”\n\n“There are eight wide steps with the top step having a slight incline to the main area before walking in to the doors which are three, four steps away.”, Dr. Leary tells him from behind, loud to be heard by those at the steps.\n\nFernando nods before taking his first step, the cane is slid over the rise of the step to the next landing, and he takes his for step onto the school. The second step was just as easy for him. The school staff steps away from him to make room for him to get on the top landing. He turns to Mr. Bear.\n\n“I’m going to need for to be here tomarrow and memorize this place.”, Fernando tells him.\n\n“How you know I’m here?”, Mr. Bear asks.\n\n“I can ‘sense’ you moving out of my way. And take a breathe mint. Coffee breathe is not good when its stale.”, Fernando tells him. Rachel and the girls behind them tightens their lips to keep from laughing.\n\n“Why I never...”, Mr. Bear says to himself.\n\nFernando keeps from saying “Maybe you should, I hear its good for the fur...”, but instead asks Rachel, “Where are the doors?”\n\n“This way.”, Rachel answers as she leads him to the doors. Dr. Leary and the girls follow him into the building.\n\nThey and the others walk into the school, stopping at the intersection of the main corridor and the main entrance. The staff walks in behind them.\n\n“The orientation is this way, in classroom three.”, Mr. Bear tells them, and then walks down the hall to the room in question. They begin to follow him.\n\n“Dr. Leary. We need to discuss the new students’ immunization records.”, the nurse walks up to her.\n\n“They’re up to date. Want it in paper or USB Drive?”, Dr. Leary says and asks.\n\n“Paper.”, the nurse tells her before being given a large envelope with all the students’ paper work inside.\n\n“Now excuse me while I catch up with my charges.”, Dr. Leary tells her before leaving in their direction. The nurse follows her into the classroom and takes a seat in the rear next to her. As the orientation begins, the school nurse begins to look over the paper work.\n\nThe rules of conduct were discussed heavily, along with school/class schedules. Special events were next to be discussed, followed by what was expected of them. Details of state wide exams and grading were thrown in along with safety and emergency procedures. This took about 40 minutes. Introduction of staff was next, though many were not there, who they were and where they could be found were discussed. Locations of various school related areas were discussed, like the gym, auditorium, cafeteria, science rooms, library, computer/media center, swimming pool and outdoor field area.\n\nNext was Teacher and Staff introduction. Though having introduced himself before Mr. Bear starts off this round orientation round.\n\n“I’m Mr. Bear; Mr. Panda Bear. I’m the principal of this school - St. Love joy Private School for Kindergarten to Twelfth Grade, a member of the Pouncefield School District.”, Principal Bear begins, “I see some of us met before.” Rachel sinks down into her seat a bit. Principal Bear continues, “I am a Child Safety Agent for the state as are all the other members of the school staff. That means if we suspect abuse in a student’s household, we can call investigative proceedings on that household and separate the child from the family that is abusing him or her.” He puts his hand on a pile folders on the teacher’s desk.\n\nDr. Leary thinks to herself, “If you knew how much the kids are screwing each other, including brothers, sisters and other family members, you would have separated ever family member of Pouncerfield a long time ago.”\n\nThe school nurse turns to Dr. Leary, “You said something?”\n\n“I didn’t say a thing.”, Dr. Leary tells her.\n\n“*AHEM!*”, Principal Bear makes to get everyone’s, including the adults, attention. He then continues, “Now in my many years as principal and even teacher before then, I never had to investigate a family for abuse. That says a lot for this community. A community heavily involved with its children’s education and well being. Through out the year, we have many events as well as holiday celebrations and sporting events. We also have an extensive Music, Theater, and Arts program if that is your sort of thing. Our teams include Soccer, Fencing, Swimming, Gymnastics, and Track and Field. And the many clubs include Arista – an International Society of schools and their students who average an A Grade or better, The Longfellows – a story and poetry group, and many others that covers the varied interests of our students. Then there are various homework groups and tutoring services we have because we believe in not leaving any child behind. You will have plenty of time to get used to being students here.”\n\nTo save time, the fifth grade teacher explains in short what is expected of the students, what classes are offered, when homework assignments are due, quizzes and tests are taken, and the dreaded end of year state exam. The next discussion was of the school uniform for the class, the gym and swimming classes. Though most of the girls were wearing their uniform, Jorge and Rachel weren’t. Neither was Fernando in his boy version of the uniform. They were warned that if this was a school day, that their parents would be called and a uniform brought in for them. It was met with complains from the rest of the girls.\n\n“That is so unfair!”, Mary of all of them spat out loudly what the other girls were thinking.\n\n“YEAH!”, a couple of the others let out. Then they start talking among themselves.\n\nPrincipal Bear steps in and tries to restore peace. He just manages to say the wrong thing according to them. “Lets get it quiet!”, he begins. The girls turn to him. He continues, “Uniforms have been part of this school’s tradition since it opened many years ago.”\n\n“That is not the point.” Mary lets out, “Cant you see he’s blind?” The staff all turn to face Fernando as she continues, “He cant tell which clothes are the school uniform from his Sunday clothes or his play and study clothes!”\n\n“Mary... Shut Up!”, Fernando lets out so loud that it echoed from the walls of the room. Mary’s disposition did an about-face as her eyes grew wide and her lips curled into her mouth and sealed shut. He continues, “The God Damn School Uniform Is My Responsibility! The Homework I Do Is My Responsibility! Everything I Will Do In This School Will Be My Responsibility! So If You Or Anyone Else Thinks I Cant Do It, Shut The Fuck Up And Leave Me Be!”\n\nThe staff stood there gasped on their feet at the tongue lashing they were forced to witness. \n\nDr. Leary whispers to the nurse going over the paperwork, “I need to take him out for a while. Can I take him to the roof?”\n\n“The roof? What for?”, the nurse asks.\n\n“We’re flying squirrels. He needs to fly off some of that energy.”, Dr. Leary answers.\n\nThe nurse starts to pack away the paperwork, telling her, “I’m going with you.”\n\n“That wont be necessary.”, Dr. Leary comments as she slowly got up.\n\n“I’m going with you.”, the nurse says to her as she follows.\n\nDr. Leary walks up to Fernando, and bend over to his ear from behind to whisper, “Come with me for a moment.” Fernando does not hesitate to get up and leave the room. Dr. Leary follows him to the hallway where he stops by the door way, leaning against the all. The nurse steps out and closes the door behind her. Dr. Leary looks at her for a moment, “Aren’t you supposed to talk to the girls about having their periods and being in heat while in school?”\n\n“I do that individually. Now, the roof is this way.”, the nurse answers, then starts walking down the hall towards the science lab classrooms.\n\nDr. Leary leans over to Fernando’s ear, “I was going to give you a quickie on the roof but now we got a spy. So do me a favor and we’ll fly for a bit. If she leaves, then maybe I’ll give you something.” He nods for a second. She takes him by his arm and leads him behind the nurse. In a few minutes they walk up the flights of stairs, passing the second floor to a secure cage to protect the roof exit and were on the roof, facing outward to the left was the parking lot.\n\n“We have not had a flying squirrel in many years.”, the nurse comments as Dr. Leary leads Fernando to the edge of the roof.\n\n“St. Lovejoy’s last flying squirrel would have been me if I’m not mistaken.”, Dr. Leary tells her.\n\n“That flying squirrel was a stuck up little bitch named Aiesha. As I remember, I never saw her fly, and she probably couldn’t. Just said that she could.”, the nurse tells her.\n\n“I seem to remember a slutty little white mink that did anything and everything for attention. The attention of the boys. It did not matter who it was, if it was a boy and his little dick could get hard, she went after him.”, Dr. Leary throws back at her.\n\n“*HMPH!*” the nurse lets out.\n\n“The truth does not need to hurt if you accept it.”, Dr. Leary tells her.\n\n“I was not the only one lifting up my uniform skirt to show off my panties to the boys. You were too!”, the nurse tells her.\n\n“Susan. You just get over the fact that you almost dropped out of medical preparatory college and transfer to become a nurse. So here you are, a nurse for the school you graduated from so long ago. Now it does not matter what you have become in life, but that you do your best in that life you live. If you think you have not achieved anything, you can go back and try med school with all your nursing experience. I’m sure Pouncefield General has an internship program you can sign up for.”, Dr. Leary explains her.\n\n“I’m happy where I am, thank you.”, Nurse Susan replies defensively.\n\n“Alright then, what’s the beef?”, Dr. Leary asks.\n\n“I have no hate towards you or of any in that group you brought in. I am not going to cover up for your mistakes. These student medical files you gave me better not be faked.”, Nurse Susan answers.\n\n“They are not faked, but there is a confidentiality that I have to honor in their conditions and treatments. So between you and me, you are going to hold those records in confidence. I am not going to throw away my career for the sake of lying on medical files because somebody slips me some money.”, Dr. Leary tells her.\n\n“OK then. Now explain the group and him.”, Nurse Susan almost demands.\n\n“They are all transplanted here from New York City.”, Dr. Leary begins to say.\n\n“I already know that. I read their transferred school records. Now what’s their story.”, Nurse Susan throws at her.\n\n“That I cant say, but you will be given notice as to why when the time is right.”, Dr. Leary tells her.\n\n“Witness protection program?” Nurse Susan asks.\n\nBefore Dr. Leary can answer, Fernando steps in and answers for her, “No. I’m just tired of fighting for survival against the gangs in New York. Very tired. That’s why we are here.” They both look at him for a moment. “How about something for this headache before I fly home and get it myself?”, he then says to them.\n\n“Headache? I have some headache medicine in the medical office downstairs. Tylenol or Motrin?”, Nurse Susan says and asks.\n\n“No!”, Fernando and Dr. Leary replies loudly.\n\n“Huh?”, Nurse Susan could only reply.\n\n“He allergic to Tylenol and Motrin does not work on him. Didn’t you read that in his medical file?”, Dr. Leary explains.\n\n“I did not get to his file yet. If he cant take Tylenol or Motrin, then what can he take?”, Nurse Susan asks.\n\n“Aspirin.”, they both answer.\n\n“Hmmm...”, the nurse says to herself.\n\n“He’s well versed in his condition and allergies.”, Dr. Leary replies.\n\n“Alright. You two come with me.”, Nurse Susan tells her.\n\n“I’ll stay here and wait for you to bring it over.”, Fernando replies.\n\n“You cant stay here. Students are not allowed on the roof without an adult to supervise them.”, Nurse Susan tells him.\n\nFernando slowly takes a few steps towards her, stopping within halfway between where he was and where she stands. “I’m not a student here yet for one. And if you have a problem with me being on this roof, I can simply jump off it and fly around the building while you get that pill over here before I lose what little sanity I have left.”, he tells her.\n\n“Fernando, calm yourself down!”, Dr. Leary calls to him loudly.\n\n“You were supposed to give me something for this headache and instead you gave me a sugar pill? You can not tell me to calm down, not with this headache! Now go get me that pill before I decide to go home alone!”, Fernando tells her sternly.\n\nThe two adult females look at him, one out of concern, the other out of angered authority. Dr Leary takes Nurse Susan’s wrist and pulls her back tot he stairs, “Lets get that aspirin for him.”\n\n“But! He cant be on the roof alone!”, Nurse Susan tells her.\n\n“You learn to trust him like I have.”, Dr. Leary starts to explain, “Now he needs that can cure him of his headache, I say we get it and give it to him.”\n\n“He can’t be on the roof, what if he does something stupid?”, Nurse Susan asks.\n\nWith a shove Dr. Leary sends Nurse Susan to the entrance of the stairs to the roof, “Stupid like what? Jump off the roof? Let me tell you something about us flying squirrels. If we fall, like a cat we right ourselves, then open our wings and parachute down. If there is enough distance, then we fly out of it. So jumping off the roof is no concern for us.”\n\nIt takes some doing to convince Nurse Susan to get to her nurse’s office and by the time that happened they were already by its door. Once inside it take less than a minute to get some bottled water and a sealed bottle of aspirin from a locked medicine cabinet. They get back to the roof faster than it took them to get downstairs.\n\nFernando is still where he was before, walking back to the edge as they argued down the stairs. He was already aware of their presence as they walk out the stair’s exit onto the roof and walk to him. Dr. Leary walks right up to the edge and shows the bottle of water and aspirin to him. Nurse Susan stays a couple of feet behind. He takes the bottle of water and opens it as Dr. Leary opens the bottle of aspirin, spilling a couple of pills onto her palm.\n\nFernando takes the pills and throws them into his mouth, chasing it with the water behind them. He only drinks half of the water in the bottle before giving it back to her. He then takes a couple of steps back away from the edge, then turns about to face the staircase entrance in the distance.\n\n“Is there a computer lab?”, he asks.\n\n“You will access the computer lab during class hours.”, Nurse Susan answers.\n\n“No, I mean, I think he has the right idea. Someplace quiet and away from the girls so he can put his head down. Besides, don’t you need an account to access the machines?”, Dr. says and then asks.\n\n“I don’t know...”, Nurse Susan says to herself.\n\n“You can be with us. It should only take a half an hour. No more than an hour.”, Dr. Leary explains.\n\n“I have to say no. Even if I had the keys to the computer room, I will have to refuse because its not my room or authority to give it.”, Nurse Susan replies.\n\n“I see.”, Dr. Leary says. She then asks, “What about the library?”\n\n“What about it?”, Nurse Susan answers in question.\n\n“Can he rest in there? I’m sure the girls will soon be given the tour which will include the library.” Dr. Leary explains.\n\nNurse Susan has to think about it, taking her time to do so before stating her decision. “Alright, but only of the librarian is there and with her permission.”, she tells them.\n\n“Then lets go.”, Dr. Leary says as Fernando starts to walk to the roof’s doorway.\n\nFernando seems to take his time walking down the stairs ahead of them, each step he’s taking being deliberately taken slower than a normal pace, the cane tapping against each step. In his mind though in his condition he does not need too, counting them and remembering where they were. As soon as they step on the third floor landing, Nurse Susan complains.\n\n“You’re walking too slow! Walk faster!”, Nurse Susan makes her thoughts known.\n\nFernando pivots on his heel, sliding the tip of the cane on the floor as he spins until it hits something, the side of Nurse Susan’s shoe. He looks up at her.\n\nDr. Leary tell him before he could to Nurse Susan, “Fernando, calm yourself down!”\n\nHe glances over to Dr. Leary for a second before shifting his eyes to Nurse Susan. He takes a slow deep breath as to not be noticed.\n\n“I’m counting the steps, as I need to know how many are there and where they are. Or should I not count them and end up in your office from falling down on them from tripping on them.”, Fernando tells her.\n\n“You need to walk faster than that or else one of the other students is going to push you down the stairs and then you will be in my office.”, Nurse Susan warns him.\n\n“I like to see them try.”, Fernando says as he turns away. He walks to the doors and pushes them open.\n\n“Where are you going?”, Nurse Susan asks.\n\n“Library.”, Fernando answers bluntly.\n\n“The Library s on the second floor, this is the third floor.”, Nurse Susan tells him.\n\n“Then bathroom.”, Fernando says before going through the doors.\n\n“Now wait a minute!”, Nurse Susan says out loud as she heads for the doors. But once onto the third floor main hallway, she finds them empty. Unknown to her, Fernando took a couple of running steps before launching himself into a low level flight near the floor, covering the distance quickly and quietly before making the nearest turn away from the main hall. Dr. Leary steps out with her, looking down both ways of the hall.\n\nMeasuring the distance and timing, Dr. Leary takes a guess as to where he could have went. At best it was a 50/50 chance that she got wrong, as Fernando flies like a jet fighter as she flies like a glider, two very different styles to compare. In her mind with her flying style she would have been able to fly the shorter distance in the amount of time he had. She makes her move to head in the wrong direction.\n\n“Where re you going?”, Nurse Susan asks.\n\nDr. Leary points down the hallway, “In the time he had to fly the distance and hid around a corner, he would have went this way.”\n\n“If you say so.”, Nurse Susan tells her as she follows.\n\nFernando manages to get into the nearest boy’s bathroom on the side he was on, using the facilities as needed. He flushes the urinal and washes his hands as always, taking the few steps to the door. It opens slowly and quietly, he listens to the sounds in the hallway. His ears pick up the sounds of them talking at the other end of the school. He steps out of the bathroom, letting the door hit his tail and then slowly let it close against the frame without a sound.\n\nChecking the sounds of the hallway one more time, Fernando goes back to the corner and down the main hall, to another staircase at its end. He goes down the stairs to the first floor and looks for the classroom they were in. He makes it back into the room and takes his seat where he puts his head down on the desk. His actions does not go unnoticed but is ignored. How can it go unnoticed? The tapping of the cane and his free hand checking the desks and chairs was more to distract any situation. Furthermore, the orientation was about various girls activities.\n\nHe looks around, knowing that the principal and teachers who were there were looking at him in awed silence. For now he decides to remain silent, crossing his arms on the desk and putting his chin on his arms. Mary makes herself known to keep the subject going.\n\n“So having my period does not excuse me from gym or swimming?”, Mary asks out loud.\n\nThe principal and teachers switch their attention to her, but taking a while to answer. “No. It does not.”, the white mouse teacher answers, “Even though your cycle happens during winter vacation with all the other squirrels, things can happen like a spontaneous period. It still does not excuse you from gym, swimming or other classes and physical school activities. That’s what pads and tampons are for.”\n\n“What about cramps!”, Mary shouts out.\n\n“You can see the nurse for that.”, the teacher explains.\n\nThe staff looks at each other, wondering where their nurse was. Eventually Principal Bear ask Fernando from across the room, “Hey, boy. Where’s Nurse Ermine?”\n\nFernando does not answer, being called ‘boy’ is one thing he does not ever answer too. In fact it makes him lose respect to the person saying it.\n\nPrincipal Bear walks to the desks where the children were, “Hey. Did you hear me?”\n\n“Hay is for horses.”, one of the twin squirrels says, with the other saying, “We be squirrels.” It was followed by a few of them saying, “Yeah!”\n\n“Then how about him answering my question.”, Principal Bear says to them.\n\nFernando gets up out of his seat and walks to the front of the room, stopping when his cane hits the principal’s shoe. He then looks up at him, “I don’t answer to ‘hey’ and you lose my respect when you call me ‘boy.’ I don’t care about your Nurse Ermine, she’s probably with our doctor updating our medical files. More importantly, I got a name. Learn it and use it well. Until then I have no respect for you for disrespecting me. Now get out of my way before I knock on your ass to get you out of my way.”\n\n“You listen to me.”, Principal Bear answers, “I’m the authority in this school...” He stops when he realizes the crackling noise next to them was the desk’s metal frame bolted on the floor was being deformed and being ripped off the floor from Fernando’s free hand under it. With a shove it leans against the desk next to it. The staff stands frozen in place after witnessing the impossible.\n\n“Now... Get... Out... My... Way...”, Fernando growls at him.\n\nPrincipal bear nervously steps out of the way, letting him walk past. Fernando walks out the door, and down the hall to the intersection to where the school’s exit was. He walks out the school and onto the sidewalk near the street was.\n\nHe takes a deep breath and listens to the area around him. The sound of the children playing pool was near by, as was Lucy’s voice yelling at some unsuspecting soul to was in her path. A few steps and across the street, he was already where he knows his way home and any other way he knows around Pouncefield. A few running steps gets him airborne. \n\nBack in the classroom, Mary makes her thoughts known once again.\n\n“You need to apologize to him if you want him to respect you again,”, Mary lets out for all to hear.\n\n“That’s it! Everybody out!”, Principal Bear says out loud, adding, “That boy is going to pay!”\n\nThe girls all glance over to Wandaline for less than a brief second, and positions themselves to have her leave last from the room. In the brief moment of time she had before exiting, she casts a small restore spell onto the desk. As she leaves the room, the desk returns to its normal state before Fernando touched it.\n\nAs they line up against the wall as they were told, Dr. Leary and Nurse Susan returns to the group.\n\n“What is going on here?”, the two medical professionals asks.\n\n“I’m going to tell you what happened, then you are going to tell me where you two were!”, Principal Bear states to them, “That boy, who ever he is threatened me before he ripped a desk off from its bolts on the floor!”\n\nBoth Dr. Leary and Nurse Susan run into the room to inspect the damage, finding none. Nurse Susan sticks her head out of the room, “Which desk?”\n\nPrincipal Bear rushes into the room and points to the first desk nearest to the door, “That... desk.”\n\nThe staff and girls return to the room as Dr. Leary grabs the desk and tries to lift it off the floor, finding it bolted hard against the floor before looking at Principal Bear.\n\n“You sure that’s the right desk?”, Dr. Leary asks as she checks the other desks around it.\n\n“Yes it... is?”, Principal Bear looks at the desk, as does the others.\n\nDr. Leary grabs the desk by its sides and gives it a good hard shake, finding it hard to move. But it is not the only thing she finds as she reads the writing on it, “‘Ms Trousers has a nice tail. Without fail, it can be seen as, she wears no pants.’ *HMPH...* sounds like one of the Longfellows wanna be’s handiwork.”\n\nAll the staff all look at it, some trying to decipher the handwriting but cant.\n\n“Don’t let me find out who did this, I’ll have them expelled.”, Principal Bear says in anger.\n\n“Don’t try to blame Fernando. He’s blind and probably does not know who Mrs. Trousers is. Besides, you said he ripped this or any other desk off the floor, not wrote on it. But I see that this is also not true.”, Dr. Leary says.\n\nThe principal stands there dumbfounded, but one of his teachers comes to his aide, “That thug was belligerent and threatening to Principal Bear. And his destruction of school property was a terrorist action against the principal and us, the staff!”\n\n“Then where is this destroyed property?”, Nurse Susan asks before Dr. Leary could. All of the staff points to the desk they were around.\n\n“Except for the graffiti, there is no damage to it, it is still firmly bolted to the floor, and as I remember the engineering specs of these desks, it would take a ton of force to rip it off the floor as Principal Bear describes. Any student who is capable of doing that and actually does during the course of the school day is the reason why I keep Thorazine Tranquilizer darts in my office. Why do you think we have a ‘Code 99’ for?”, Nurse Susan tells them. She adds, “I’m going to ask the girls outside what happened. You teachers should stop stirring your coffees with pencils and magic markers. You all are beginning to hallucinate things, and the same thing at the same time!”\n\nDr. Leary walks out with Nurse Susan, who stops at the front of the girls.\n\n“Alright... I’m going to ask this once – what happened in there?”, Nurse Susan tells them. Unfortunately they all respond at once, tell more or less the same thing. “Alright, stop!”, Nurse Susan yells out to be over their voices. They all stop their explanations and look at her.\n\nDr. Leary steps in, “You, Grace. Explain what happened in there.” Nurse Susan gives Dr. Leary a stern look as if she over stepped her authority, and she did.\n\nGrace looks at the two of them, seeing Dr. Leary nodding at her. She begins to explain, “Fernando came into the room without you two and took a seat in the back of the room. We were discussing girl things when he came in and then the principal said, ‘Hey, boy. Where’s Nurse Ermine?’ And Fernando got upset for being disrespected like that. So he got up to leave the room and Principal Bear tried to stop him be standing in his way. Fernando stopped when his cane Principal Bear’s shoe and told him to get out of the way.”\n\n“Then what happened?”, Dr. Leary ask when she hears Grace stops for a moment.\n\n“They had a staring contest and then Principal Bear stepped out of his way and Fernando left the room.”, Grace answers.\n\n“I see.”, Dr. Leary says.\n\n“Now wait a minute!”, Nurse Susan says out loud.\n\n“Care to ask any of them?”, Dr. Leary asks to her.\n\nNurse Susan gives Dr. Leary another stern look before turning to the girls. “Is what she says true?”, she asks. They all say or nod ‘yes.’ Nurse Susan asks, “Did Fernando made any threats towards Principal Bear or any of the staff?”\n\nThey all answer ‘no,’ with Mary adding her two cents in, “If it were me I would knocked that stupid Panda on his ass.”\n\n“Ms MacAlpine...”, Dr. Leary tells her sternly.\n\n“Well, its true.”, Mary beings to say, “He treated Fernando like some field slave, saying hey boy and then ‘hey can you hear me’ loudly like if he was deaf. We all know Fernando’s blind, not deaf. If it were me I would have socked him one in the mouth for his verbal shit throwing.”\n\n“We don’t condone threats and acts of violence here.”, Nurse Susan tells her sternly.\n\nDr. Leary throws in, “You give that girl a wide berth. I will tell you know here and now that what violent tendencies she may have, has a medical reason behind it. Right now we have her calmed down and relax but confront her and threaten her, she will not and can’t be held responsible for what happens next.”\n\n“Everyone’s responsible for their actions!”, Nurse Susan says out loud.\n\nDr. Leary turns away from Nurse Susan for a second, nodding to Mary who nods back. Then she tells Nurse Susan, “Rabies.”\n\n“Rabies?!! That is not possible!”, Nurse Susan says out loud.\n\n“Why not? She was bit by a rabid feral vampire bat as a toddler, and began to encroach on her brain but the doctors think they got it in time. They didn’t and that control that we all have, she only has a part of. So its within your responsibility to keep her and the others here happy or she will flip and literally take somebody’s head off.”, Dr. Leary explains.\n\nNurse Susan gulps, before nervously asking, “And Fernando?”\n\n“Mary bit him and gave him Rabies. They are both sweet loving children when things are alright, but make them angry, they will go mad and, lets say Principal Bear is lucky to be alive right now. And he’s worry about a desk being messed up, he does not know how lucky he is.”, Dr. Leary tells her.\n\n“Principal Bear needs to know about this.”, Nurse Susan says more than loud enough to be heard.\n\n“No he does not.”, Dr. Leary tells her.\n\n“I’m the authority in these matters in this school.”, Nurse Susan tells her.\n\n“I told you there is a confidentiality that will not be broken, and this is it. You tell Principal Bear anything about the health status of these girls or Fernando, and I will have you facing a patient confidentiality inquiry faster than you can pack your bags and leave your office. And win or lose in this inquiry, you lose your nursing license. You lose your nursing license, you lose your job here. I don’t care if Mr. Bear is principal of this school or of any other school. The confidentiality of my patients will be held at the utmost level of secrecy. Only under a court order or medical discussion with another doctor who replaces me are you to say anything about this. Not even to your staff you supervise are you to say anything about these children. Do you understand what I am telling you?”, Dr. Leary reads her the riot act.\n\n“Yes I do.”, Nurse Susan tells her. After a second she gets the courage to add, “And if anything major happens here in this school because of any of them, I will do what I have to have to protect this school and its students.”\n\n“Nurse Ermine – you are a medical professional first and an employee of this school second. If somebody in this school spreads fleas, ticks, lice, TB, The Pox, The Mumps, and anything else from a high fever to the common cold, you are to shut down this facility and quarantine it to stop the infection from spreading to the community. Principal Panda can stay locked up in his office wondering what he is going to order on his Chinese delivery because you are in charge of the situation, not him. If you wont, I will. So this is the price of you wanting to do what you want and not abiding by the rules. With my patients, I will have nothing more than trust, respect and confidentiality. Now if you want to be good in my professional graces, you tell that Panda of a bear that he better apologize to Fernando when I bring him here tomorrow with the others. This orientation is over as far as I care, and you all proved to be less than professional. These girls and boy are on the upper levels of their educational careers, and despite their flaws, are geniuses in their own rights. If Fernando ends up on the train tonight to go back to New York, I will be on your tail while white is on your fur. Ladies, lets go.”, Dr. Leary tells Nurse Susan off before letting the girls to leave with her. They walk out of the area and to the exit. As they walk out the door, Principal Bear and the staff walks out of the classroom.\n\n“I have decided that the boy will not be allowed in this school.”, Principal Bear says out loud to Nurse Susan.\n\n“You can’t do that!”, Nurse Susan replies loudly.\n\n“Why not? Its my school and I have the say in who is a student here and who is not.”, Principal Bear tells him.\n\n“I spoke to the girls and they all said that you disrespected him by calling him ‘hey boy and making a statement that he’s deaf! He’s blind, Principal Bear. Not deaf! That is the ultimate disrespect you can throw at any student, especially a handicapped one! You better hope he does not come in on opening school day with lawyers, members of the school board and representatives from the Citizens with Disabilities League, because if he does, you are going to be fired! Before that happens, the least you can do is go to that boy’s house and apologize for disrespecting him.”, Nurse Susan tells him.\n\nShe begins to walk away, with Principal Bear calling to her, “Where are you going, Nurse Ermine!”\n\n“I’m going to get my resume together, because if you get fired for disrespecting a student, I don’t want to be here for the fallout and aftermath!”, Nurse Susan tells him as she walks away from him. \n\n“That was rather uncalled for.”, one teacher says in the group.\n\n“You believe that, me go to the boy’s home and apologize to him? You know what kind of problems that will bring up.”, Principal Bear says to them all.\n\n“The students will walk over us.”, another teacher says.\n\n“Uhm... Mr. Panda Bear. I think you should apologize to him.”, a third teacher says with a pile of folders in her arms, one of them opened for her to read.\n\n“What are you talking about?”, Principal Bear says as he turns to her. She puts the folder to his face. He takes it and reads it. His eyes grow wide as he reads what is printed in the folder.\n\nEnd of Chapter 59\n",

The Orientation.<br /><br />The Cadillac SUV pulls into a parking slot in closest to the school building in the faculty parking lot. As soon as the engine is turned off, the doors open and the occupants inside step out onto the asphalt of the parking area. They all look around at the school and its immense size though the buildings were short, maximum four stories compared to what they were used to seeing in New York City.<br /><br />The girls slowly gathered around Fernando as he got out of the SUV. Dr. Leary joins them from her side of the vehicle. She takes him by his arm as he takes out his cane. They start walking to the main entrance of the school building. Once she tell Rachel where to go once they turn the corner from the faculty parking lot, and start taking a slower stride.<br /><br />Once they get with in visual range of the main entrance, Fernando tells the girls to go head of him and see if the doors are open. The older girls walk a bit faster, then jog to the main entrance.&nbsp;&nbsp; They stop as the doors open before they get half way to it. A few of the school staff step out onto the steps that lead to the doors. The girls wait for the others to catch up behind them. Tonya and Francis run up to catch up to their sisters. Rachel leads Fernando to the front of the group with Dr. Leary catching up to them as they gathered.<br /><br />&ldquo;Welcome to St. Lovejoy.&rdquo;, the panda bear of the group says out loud.<br /><br />Fernando walks to steps and stops when his cane hits the first rise. &ldquo;Who&rsquo;s leading this orientation?&rdquo;, he asks.<br /><br />&ldquo;That depends. Everyone will be taking their turn for their part of the school.&rdquo;, the panda bear answers.<br /><br />&ldquo;And who you would be?&rdquo;, Fernando asks as he hears Dr. Leary walk up behind him.<br /><br />&ldquo;I&rsquo;m Mr. Bear. I&rsquo;m the principal of this school.&rdquo;, Mr. Bear answers.<br /><br />&ldquo;Then lets get this started. I need to go home and take my meds in a couple of hours.&rdquo;, Fernando tells him.<br /><br />&ldquo;Alright then, follow me.&rdquo;, Mr. Bear says. He was about to turn around when he hears a loud &ldquo;*AHEM!!!*&rdquo;<br /><br />&ldquo;There are eight wide steps with the top step having a slight incline to the main area before walking in to the doors which are three, four steps away.&rdquo;, Dr. Leary tells him from behind, loud to be heard by those at the steps.<br /><br />Fernando nods before taking his first step, the cane is slid over the rise of the step to the next landing, and he takes his for step onto the school. The second step was just as easy for him. The school staff steps away from him to make room for him to get on the top landing. He turns to Mr. Bear.<br /><br />&ldquo;I&rsquo;m going to need for to be here tomarrow and memorize this place.&rdquo;, Fernando tells him.<br /><br />&ldquo;How you know I&rsquo;m here?&rdquo;, Mr. Bear asks.<br /><br />&ldquo;I can &lsquo;sense&rsquo; you moving out of my way. And take a breathe mint. Coffee breathe is not good when its stale.&rdquo;, Fernando tells him. Rachel and the girls behind them tightens their lips to keep from laughing.<br /><br />&ldquo;Why I never...&rdquo;, Mr. Bear says to himself.<br /><br />Fernando keeps from saying &ldquo;Maybe you should, I hear its good for the fur...&rdquo;, but instead asks Rachel, &ldquo;Where are the doors?&rdquo;<br /><br />&ldquo;This way.&rdquo;, Rachel answers as she leads him to the doors. Dr. Leary and the girls follow him into the building.<br /><br />They and the others walk into the school, stopping at the intersection of the main corridor and the main entrance. The staff walks in behind them.<br /><br />&ldquo;The orientation is this way, in classroom three.&rdquo;, Mr. Bear tells them, and then walks down the hall to the room in question. They begin to follow him.<br /><br />&ldquo;Dr. Leary. We need to discuss the new students&rsquo; immunization records.&rdquo;, the nurse walks up to her.<br /><br />&ldquo;They&rsquo;re up to date. Want it in paper or USB Drive?&rdquo;, Dr. Leary says and asks.<br /><br />&ldquo;Paper.&rdquo;, the nurse tells her before being given a large envelope with all the students&rsquo; paper work inside.<br /><br />&ldquo;Now excuse me while I catch up with my charges.&rdquo;, Dr. Leary tells her before leaving in their direction. The nurse follows her into the classroom and takes a seat in the rear next to her. As the orientation begins, the school nurse begins to look over the paper work.<br /><br />The rules of conduct were discussed heavily, along with school/class schedules. Special events were next to be discussed, followed by what was expected of them. Details of state wide exams and grading were thrown in along with safety and emergency procedures. This took about 40 minutes. Introduction of staff was next, though many were not there, who they were and where they could be found were discussed. Locations of various school related areas were discussed, like the gym, auditorium, cafeteria, science rooms, library, computer/media center,&nbsp;&nbsp;swimming pool and outdoor field area.<br /><br />Next was Teacher and Staff introduction. Though having introduced himself before Mr. Bear starts off this round orientation round.<br /><br />&ldquo;I&rsquo;m Mr. Bear; Mr. Panda Bear. I&rsquo;m the principal of this school - St. Love joy Private School for Kindergarten to Twelfth Grade, a member of the Pouncefield School District.&rdquo;, Principal Bear begins, &ldquo;I see some of us met before.&rdquo; Rachel sinks down into her seat a bit. Principal Bear continues, &ldquo;I am a Child Safety Agent for the state as are all the other members of the school staff. That means if we suspect abuse in a student&rsquo;s household, we can call investigative proceedings on that household and separate the child from the family that is abusing him or her.&rdquo; He puts his hand on a pile folders on the teacher&rsquo;s desk.<br /><br />Dr. Leary thinks to herself, &ldquo; If you knew how much the kids are screwing each other, including brothers, sisters and other family members, you would have separated ever family member of Pouncerfield a long time ago.&rdquo;<br /><br />The school nurse turns to Dr. Leary, &ldquo; You said something?&rdquo;<br /><br />&ldquo;I didn&rsquo;t say a thing.&rdquo;, Dr. Leary tells her.<br /><br />&ldquo;*AHEM!*&rdquo;, Principal Bear makes to get everyone&rsquo;s, including the adults, attention. He then continues, &ldquo; Now in my many years as principal and even teacher before then, I never had to investigate a family for abuse. That says a lot for this community. A community heavily involved&nbsp;&nbsp;with its children&rsquo;s education and well being. Through out the year, we have many events as well as holiday celebrations and sporting events.&nbsp;&nbsp; We also have an extensive Music, Theater, and Arts program if that is your sort of thing. Our teams include Soccer, Fencing, Swimming, Gymnastics, and Track and Field. And the many clubs include Arista &ndash; an International Society of schools and their students who average an A Grade or better, The Longfellows &ndash; a story and poetry group, and many others that covers the varied interests of our students. Then there are various homework groups and tutoring services we have because we believe in not leaving any child behind. You will have plenty of time to get used to being students here.&rdquo;<br /><br />To save time, the fifth grade teacher explains in short what is expected of the students, what classes are offered, when homework assignments are due, quizzes and tests are taken, and the dreaded end of year state exam. The next discussion was of the school uniform for the class, the gym and swimming classes. Though most of the girls were wearing their uniform, Jorge and Rachel weren&rsquo;t. Neither was Fernando in his boy version of the uniform. They were warned that if this was a school day, that their parents would be called and a uniform brought in for them. It was met with complains from the rest of the girls.<br /><br />&ldquo;That is so unfair!&rdquo;, Mary of all of them spat out loudly what the other girls were thinking.<br /><br />&ldquo;YEAH!&rdquo;, a couple of the others let out. Then they start talking among themselves.<br /><br />Principal Bear steps in and tries to restore peace. He just manages to say the wrong thing according to them. &ldquo;Lets get it quiet!&rdquo;, he begins. The girls turn to him. He continues, &ldquo;Uniforms have been part of this school&rsquo;s tradition since it opened many years ago.&rdquo;<br /><br />&ldquo;That is not the point.&rdquo; Mary lets out, &ldquo;Cant you see he&rsquo;s blind?&rdquo; The staff all turn to face Fernando as she continues, &ldquo; He cant tell which clothes are the school uniform from his Sunday clothes or his play and study clothes!&rdquo;<br /><br />&ldquo;Mary... Shut Up!&rdquo;, Fernando lets out so loud that it echoed from the walls of the room. Mary&rsquo;s disposition did an about-face as her eyes grew wide and her lips curled into her mouth and sealed shut. He continues, &ldquo; The God Damn School Uniform Is My Responsibility! The Homework I Do Is My Responsibility! Everything I Will Do In This School Will Be My Responsibility! So If You Or Anyone Else Thinks I Cant Do It, Shut The Fuck Up And Leave Me Be!&rdquo;<br /><br />The staff stood there gasped on their feet at the tongue lashing they were forced to witness. <br /><br />Dr. Leary whispers to the nurse going over the paperwork, &ldquo;I need to take him out for a while. Can I take him to the roof?&rdquo;<br /><br />&ldquo;The roof? What for?&rdquo;, the nurse asks.<br /><br />&ldquo;We&rsquo;re flying squirrels. He needs to fly off some of that energy.&rdquo;, Dr. Leary answers.<br /><br />The nurse starts to pack away the paperwork, telling her, &ldquo;I&rsquo;m going with you.&rdquo;<br /><br />&ldquo;That wont be necessary.&rdquo;, Dr. Leary comments as she slowly got up.<br /><br />&ldquo;I&rsquo;m going with you.&rdquo;, the nurse says to her as she follows.<br /><br />Dr. Leary walks up to Fernando, and bend over to his ear from behind to whisper, &ldquo;Come with me for a moment.&rdquo; Fernando does not hesitate to get up and leave the room. Dr. Leary follows him to the hallway where he stops by the door way, leaning against the all. The nurse steps out and closes the door behind her. Dr. Leary looks at her for a moment, &ldquo;Aren&rsquo;t you supposed to talk to the girls about having their periods and being in heat while in school?&rdquo;<br /><br />&ldquo;I do that individually. Now, the roof is this way.&rdquo;, the nurse answers, then starts walking down the hall towards the science lab classrooms.<br /><br />Dr. Leary leans over to Fernando&rsquo;s ear, &ldquo;I was going to give you a quickie on the roof but now we got a spy. So do me a favor and we&rsquo;ll fly for a bit. If she leaves, then maybe I&rsquo;ll give you something.&rdquo; He nods for a second. She takes him by his arm and leads him behind the nurse. In a few minutes they walk up the flights of stairs, passing the second floor to a secure cage to protect the roof exit and were on the roof, facing outward to the left was the parking lot.<br /><br />&ldquo;We have not had a flying squirrel in many years.&rdquo;, the nurse comments as Dr. Leary leads Fernando to the edge of the roof.<br /><br />&ldquo;St. Lovejoy&rsquo;s last flying squirrel would have been me if I&rsquo;m not mistaken.&rdquo;, Dr. Leary tells her.<br /><br />&ldquo;That flying squirrel was a stuck up little bitch named Aiesha. As I remember, I never saw her fly, and she probably couldn&rsquo;t. Just said that she could.&rdquo;, the nurse tells her.<br /><br />&ldquo;I seem to remember a slutty little white mink that did anything and everything for attention. The attention of the boys. It did not matter who it was, if it was a boy and his little dick could get hard, she went after him.&rdquo;, Dr. Leary throws back at her.<br /><br />&ldquo;*HMPH!*&rdquo; the nurse lets out.<br /><br />&ldquo;The truth does not need to hurt if you accept it.&rdquo;, Dr. Leary tells her.<br /><br />&ldquo;I was not the only one lifting up my uniform skirt to show off my panties to the boys. You were too!&rdquo;, the nurse tells her.<br /><br />&ldquo;Susan. I&rsquo;m sure Pouncefield General has an internship program you can sign up for.&rdquo;, Dr. Leary explains her.<br /><br />&ldquo;I&rsquo;m happy where I am, thank you.&rdquo;, Nurse Susan replies defensively.<br /><br />&ldquo;Alright then, what&rsquo;s the beef?&rdquo;, Dr. Leary asks.<br /><br />&ldquo;I have no hate towards you or of any in that group you brought in. I am not going to cover up for your mistakes. These student medical files you gave me better not be faked.&rdquo;, Nurse Susan answers.<br /><br />&ldquo;They are not faked, but there is a confidentiality that I have to honor in their conditions and treatments. So between you and me, you are going to hold those records in confidence. I am not going to throw away my career for the sake of lying on medical files because somebody slips me some money.&rdquo;, Dr. Leary tells her.<br /><br />&ldquo;OK then. Now explain the group and him.&rdquo;, Nurse Susan almost demands.<br /><br />&ldquo;They are all transplanted here from New York City.&rdquo;, Dr. Leary begins to say.<br /><br />&ldquo;I already know that. I read their transferred school records. Now what&rsquo;s their story.&rdquo;, Nurse Susan throws at her.<br /><br />&ldquo;That I cant say, but you will be given notice as to why when the time is right.&rdquo;, Dr. Leary tells her.<br /><br />&ldquo;Witness protection program?&rdquo; Nurse Susan asks.<br /><br />Before Dr. Leary can answer, Fernando steps in and answers for her, &ldquo; No. I&rsquo;m just tired of fighting for survival against the gangs in New York. Very tired. That&rsquo;s why we are here.&rdquo; They both look at him for a moment. &ldquo; How about something for this headache before I fly home and get it myself?&rdquo;, he then says to them.<br /><br />&ldquo;Headache? I have some headache medicine in the medical office downstairs. Tylenol or Motrin?&rdquo;, Nurse Susan says and asks.<br /><br />&ldquo;No!&rdquo;, Fernando and Dr. Leary replies loudly.<br /><br />&ldquo;Huh?&rdquo;, Nurse Susan could only reply.<br /><br />&ldquo;He allergic to Tylenol and Motrin does not work on him. Didn&rsquo;t you read that in his medical file?&rdquo;, Dr. Leary explains.<br /><br />&ldquo;I did not get to his file yet. If he cant take Tylenol or Motrin, then what can he take?&rdquo;, Nurse Susan asks.<br /><br />&ldquo;Aspirin.&rdquo;, they both answer.<br /><br />&ldquo;Hmmm...&rdquo;, the nurse says to herself.<br /><br />&ldquo;He&rsquo;s well versed in his condition and allergies.&rdquo;, Dr. Leary replies.<br /><br />&ldquo;Alright. You two come with me.&rdquo;, Nurse Susan tells her.<br /><br />&ldquo;I&rsquo;ll stay here and wait for you to bring it over.&rdquo;,&nbsp;&nbsp;Fernando replies.<br /><br />&ldquo;You cant stay here. Students are not allowed on the roof without an adult to supervise them.&rdquo;, Nurse Susan tells him.<br /><br />Fernando slowly takes a few steps towards her, stopping within halfway between where he was and where she stands. &ldquo;I&rsquo;m not a student here yet for one. And if you have a problem with me being on this roof, I can simply jump off it and fly around the building while you get that pill over here before I lose what little sanity I have left.&rdquo;, he tells her.<br /><br />&ldquo;Fernando, calm yourself down!&rdquo;, Dr. Leary calls to him loudly.<br /><br />&ldquo;You were supposed to give me something for this headache and instead you gave me a sugar pill? You can not tell me to calm down, not with this headache! Now go get me that pill before I decide to go home alone!&rdquo;, Fernando tells her sternly.<br /><br />The two&nbsp;&nbsp;adult females look at him, one out of concern, the other out of angered authority. Dr Leary takes Nurse Susan&rsquo;s wrist and pulls her back tot he stairs, &ldquo;Lets get that aspirin for him.&rdquo;<br /><br />&ldquo;But! He cant be on the roof alone!&rdquo;,&nbsp;&nbsp;Nurse Susan tells her.<br /><br />&ldquo;You learn to trust him like I have.&rdquo;, Dr. Leary starts to explain, &ldquo; Now he needs that can cure him of his headache, I say we get it and give it to him.&rdquo;<br /><br />&ldquo;He can&rsquo;t be on the roof, what if he does something stupid?&rdquo;, Nurse Susan asks.<br /><br />With a shove Dr. Leary sends Nurse Susan to the entrance of the stairs to the roof, &ldquo;Stupid like what? Jump off the roof? Let me tell you something about us flying squirrels. If we fall, like a cat we right ourselves, then open our wings and parachute down. If there is enough distance, then we fly out of it. So jumping off the roof is no concern for us.&rdquo;<br /><br />It takes some doing to convince Nurse Susan to get to her nurse&rsquo;s office and by the time that happened they were already by its door. Once inside it take less than a minute to get some bottled water and a sealed bottle of aspirin from a locked medicine cabinet. They get back to the roof faster than it took them to get downstairs.<br /><br />Fernando is still where he was before, walking back to the edge as they argued down the stairs. He was already aware of their presence as they walk out the stair&rsquo;s exit onto the roof and walk to him. Dr. Leary walks right up to the edge and shows the bottle of water and aspirin to him. Nurse Susan stays a couple of feet behind. He takes the bottle of water and opens it as Dr. Leary opens the bottle of aspirin, spilling a couple of pills onto her palm.<br /><br />Fernando takes the pills and throws them into his mouth, chasing it with the water behind them. He only drinks half of the water in the bottle before giving it back to her. He then takes a couple of steps back away from the edge, then turns about to face the staircase entrance in the distance.<br /><br />&ldquo;Is there a computer lab?&rdquo;, he asks.<br /><br />&ldquo;You will access the computer lab during class hours.&rdquo;, Nurse Susan answers.<br /><br />&ldquo;No, I mean, I think he has the right idea. Someplace quiet and away from the girls so he can put his head down. Besides, don&rsquo;t you need an account to access the machines?&rdquo;, Dr. says and then asks.<br /><br />&ldquo;I don&rsquo;t know...&rdquo;, Nurse Susan says to herself.<br /><br />&ldquo;You can be with us. It should only take a half an hour. No more than an hour.&rdquo;, Dr. Leary explains.<br /><br />&ldquo;I have to say no. Even if I had the keys to the computer room, I will have to refuse because its not my room or authority to give it.&rdquo;, Nurse Susan replies.<br /><br />&ldquo;I see.&rdquo;, Dr. Leary says. She then asks, &ldquo; What about the library?&rdquo;<br /><br />&ldquo;What about it?&rdquo;, Nurse Susan answers in question.<br /><br />&ldquo;Can he rest in there? I&rsquo;m sure the girls will soon be given the tour which will include the library.&rdquo; Dr. Leary explains.<br /><br />Nurse Susan has to think about it, taking her time to do so before stating her decision. &ldquo;Alright, but only of the librarian is there and with her permission.&rdquo;, she tells them.<br /><br />&ldquo;Then lets go.&rdquo;, Dr. Leary says as Fernando starts to walk to the roof&rsquo;s doorway.<br /><br />Fernando seems to take his time walking down the stairs ahead of them, each step he&rsquo;s taking being deliberately taken slower than a normal pace, the cane tapping against each step. In his mind though in his condition he does not need too, counting them and remembering where they were. As soon as they step on the third floor landing, Nurse Susan complains.<br /><br />&ldquo;You&rsquo;re walking too slow! Walk faster!&rdquo;, Nurse Susan makes her thoughts known.<br /><br />Fernando pivots on his heel, sliding the tip of the cane on the floor as he spins until it hits something, the side of Nurse Susan&rsquo;s shoe. He looks up at her.<br /><br />Dr. Leary tell him before he could to Nurse Susan, &ldquo;Fernando, calm yourself down!&rdquo;<br /><br />He glances over to Dr. Leary for a second before shifting his eyes to Nurse Susan. He takes a slow deep breath as to not be noticed.<br /><br />&ldquo;I&rsquo;m counting the steps, as I need to know how many are there and where they are. Or should I not count them and end up in your office from falling down on them from tripping on them.&rdquo;, Fernando tells her.<br /><br />&ldquo;You need to walk faster than that or else one of the other students is going to push you down the stairs and then you will be in my office.&rdquo;, Nurse Susan warns him.<br /><br />&ldquo;I like to see them try.&rdquo;, Fernando says as he turns away. He walks to the doors and pushes them open.<br /><br />&ldquo;Where are you going?&rdquo;, Nurse Susan asks.<br /><br />&ldquo;Library.&rdquo;, Fernando answers bluntly.<br /><br />&ldquo;The Library s on the second floor, this is the third floor.&rdquo;, Nurse Susan tells him.<br /><br />&ldquo;Then bathroom.&rdquo;, Fernando says before going through the doors.<br /><br />&ldquo;Now wait a minute!&rdquo;, Nurse Susan says out loud as she heads for the doors. But once onto the third floor main hallway, she finds them empty. Unknown to her, Fernando took a couple of running steps before launching himself into a low level flight near the floor, covering the distance quickly and quietly before making the nearest turn away from the main hall. Dr. Leary steps out with her, looking down both ways of the hall.<br /><br />Measuring the distance and timing, Dr. She makes her move to head in the wrong direction.<br /><br />&ldquo;Where re you going?&rdquo;, Nurse Susan asks.<br /><br />Dr. Leary points down the hallway, &ldquo; In the time he had to fly the distance and hid around a corner, he would have went&nbsp;&nbsp;this way.&rdquo;<br /><br />&ldquo;If you say so.&rdquo;, Nurse Susan tells her as she follows.<br /><br />Fernando manages to get into the nearest boy&rsquo;s bathroom on the side he was on, using the facilities as needed. He flushes the urinal and washes his hands as always, taking the few steps to the door. It opens slowly and quietly, he listens to the sounds in the hallway. His ears pick up the sounds of them talking at the other end of the school. He steps out of the bathroom, letting the door hit his tail and then slowly let it close against the frame without a sound.<br /><br />Checking the sounds of the hallway one more time, Fernando goes back to the corner and down the main hall, to another staircase at its end. Furthermore, the orientation was about various girls activities.<br /><br />He looks around, knowing that the principal and teachers who were there were looking at him in awed silence. For now he decides to remain silent, crossing his arms on the desk and putting his chin on his arms. Mary makes herself known to keep the subject going.<br /><br />&ldquo;So having my period does not excuse me from gym or swimming?&rdquo;, Mary asks out loud.<br /><br />The principal and teachers switch their attention to her, but taking a while to answer.&nbsp;&nbsp;&ldquo;No. It does not.&rdquo;, the white mouse teacher answers, &ldquo;Even though your cycle happens during winter vacation with all the other squirrels, things can happen like a spontaneous period. It still does not excuse you from gym, swimming or other classes and physical school activities. That&rsquo;s what pads and tampons are for.&rdquo;<br /><br />&ldquo;What about cramps!&rdquo;, Mary shouts out.<br /><br />&ldquo;You can see the nurse for that.&rdquo;, the teacher explains.<br /><br />The staff looks at each other, wondering where their nurse was.&nbsp;&nbsp;Eventually Principal Bear ask Fernando from across the room, &ldquo;Hey, boy. Where&rsquo;s Nurse Ermine?&rdquo;<br /><br />Fernando does not answer, being called &lsquo;boy&rsquo; is one thing he does not ever answer too. In fact it makes him lose respect to the person saying it.<br /><br />Principal Bear walks to the desks where the children were, &ldquo;Hey. Did you hear me?&rdquo;<br /><br />&ldquo;Hay is for horses.&rdquo;, one of the twin squirrels says, with the other saying, &ldquo; We be squirrels.&rdquo; It was followed by a few of them saying, &ldquo;Yeah!&rdquo;<br /><br />&ldquo;Then how about him answering my question.&rdquo;, Principal Bear says to them.<br /><br />Fernando gets up out of his seat and walks to the front of the room, stopping when his cane hits the principal&rsquo;s shoe. He then looks up at him, &ldquo;I don&rsquo;t answer to &lsquo;hey&rsquo; and you lose my respect when you call me &lsquo;boy.&rsquo; I don&rsquo;t care about your Nurse Ermine, she&rsquo;s probably with our doctor updating our medical files. More importantly, I got a name. Learn it and use it well. Until then I have no respect for you for disrespecting me. Now get out of my way before I knock on your ass to get you out of my way.&rdquo;<br /><br />&ldquo;You listen to me.&rdquo;, Principal Bear answers, &ldquo;I&rsquo;m the authority in this school...&rdquo; He stops when he realizes the crackling noise next to them was the desk&rsquo;s metal frame bolted on the floor was being deformed and being ripped off the floor from Fernando&rsquo;s free hand under it. With a shove it leans against the desk next to it. The staff stands frozen in place after witnessing the impossible.<br /><br />&ldquo;Now... Get... Out... My... Way...&rdquo;, Fernando growls at him.<br /><br />Principal bear nervously steps out of the way, letting him walk past. Fernando walks out the door, and down the hall to the intersection to where the school&rsquo;s exit was. He walks out the school and onto the sidewalk near the street was.<br /><br />He takes a deep breath and listens to the area around him. The sound of the children playing pool was near by, as was Lucy&rsquo;s voice yelling at some unsuspecting soul to was in her path. A few steps and across the street, he was already where he knows his way home and any other way he knows around Pouncefield. A few running steps gets him airborne. <br /><br />Back in the classroom, Mary makes her thoughts known once again.<br /><br />&ldquo;You need to apologize to him if you want him to respect you again,&rdquo;, Mary lets out for all to hear.<br /><br />&ldquo;That&rsquo;s it! Everybody out!&rdquo;, Principal Bear says out loud, adding, &ldquo; That boy is going to pay!&rdquo;<br /><br />The girls all glance over to Wandaline for less than a brief second, and positions themselves to have her leave last from the room. In the brief moment of time she had before exiting, she casts a small restore spell onto the desk. As she leaves the room, the desk returns to its normal state before Fernando touched it.<br /><br />As they line up against the wall as they were told, Dr. Leary and Nurse Susan returns to the group.<br /><br />&ldquo;What is going on here?&rdquo;, the two medical professionals asks.<br /><br />&ldquo;I&rsquo;m going to tell you what happened, then you are going to tell me where you two were!&rdquo;, Principal Bear states to them, &ldquo; That boy, who ever he is threatened me before he ripped a desk off from its bolts on the floor!&rdquo;<br /><br />Both Dr. Leary and Nurse Susan run into the room to inspect the damage, finding none. Nurse Susan sticks her head out of the room, &ldquo;Which desk?&rdquo;<br /><br />Principal Bear rushes into the room and points to the first desk nearest to the door, &ldquo;That... desk.&rdquo;<br /><br />The staff and girls return to the room as Dr. Leary grabs the desk and tries to lift it off the floor, finding it bolted hard against the floor before looking at Principal Bear.<br /><br />&ldquo;You sure that&rsquo;s the right desk?&rdquo;, Dr. Leary asks as she checks the other desks around it.<br /><br />&ldquo;Yes it... is?&rdquo;, Principal Bear looks at the desk, as does the others.<br /><br />Dr. Leary grabs the desk by its sides and gives it a good hard shake, finding it hard to move. But it is not the only thing she finds as she reads the writing on it, &ldquo;&lsquo;Ms Trousers has a nice tail. Without fail, it can be seen as, she wears no pants.&rsquo; *HMPH...* sounds like one of the Longfellows wanna be&rsquo;s handiwork.&rdquo;<br /><br />All the staff all look at it, some trying to decipher the handwriting but cant.<br /><br />&ldquo;Don&rsquo;t let me find out who did this, I&rsquo;ll have them expelled.&rdquo;, Principal Bear says in anger.<br /><br />&ldquo;Don&rsquo;t try to blame Fernando. He&rsquo;s blind and probably does not know who Mrs. Trousers is. Besides, you said he ripped this or any other desk off the floor, not wrote on it. But I see that this is also not true.&rdquo;, Dr. Leary says.<br /><br />The principal stands there dumbfounded, but one of his teachers comes to his aide, &ldquo; That thug was belligerent and threatening to Principal Bear. And his destruction of school property was a terrorist action against the principal and us, the staff!&rdquo;<br /><br />&ldquo;Then where is this destroyed property?&rdquo;, Nurse Susan asks before Dr. Leary could. All of the staff points to the desk they were around.<br /><br />&ldquo;Except for the graffiti, there is no damage to it, it is still firmly bolted to the floor, and as I remember the engineering specs of these desks, it would take a ton of force to rip it off the floor as Principal Bear describes. Any student who is capable of doing that and actually does during the course of the school day is the reason why I keep Thorazine Tranquilizer darts in my office. Why do you think we have a &lsquo;Code 99&rsquo; for?&rdquo;, Nurse Susan tells them. She adds, &ldquo;I&rsquo;m going to ask the girls outside what happened. You teachers should stop stirring your coffees with pencils and magic markers. You all are beginning to hallucinate things, and the same thing at the same time!&rdquo;<br /><br />Dr. Leary walks out with Nurse Susan, who stops at the front of the girls.<br /><br />&ldquo;Alright... I&rsquo;m going to ask this once &ndash; what happened in there?&rdquo;, Nurse Susan tells them. Unfortunately they all respond at once, tell more or less the same thing. &ldquo;Alright, stop!&rdquo;, Nurse Susan yells out to be over their voices. They all stop their explanations and look at her.<br /><br />Dr. Leary steps in, &ldquo; You, Grace. Explain what happened in there.&rdquo; Nurse Susan gives Dr. Leary a stern look as if she over stepped her authority, and she did.<br /><br />Grace looks at the two of them, seeing Dr. Leary nodding at her. She begins to explain, &ldquo;Fernando came into the room without you two and took a seat in the back of the room. We were discussing girl things when he came in and then the principal said, &lsquo;Hey, boy. Where&rsquo;s Nurse Ermine?&rsquo; And Fernando got upset for being disrespected like that. So he got up to leave the room and Principal Bear tried to stop him be standing in his way. Fernando stopped when his cane Principal Bear&rsquo;s shoe and told him to get out of the way.&rdquo;<br /><br />&ldquo;Then what happened?&rdquo;, Dr. Leary ask when she hears Grace stops for a moment.<br /><br />&ldquo;They had a staring contest and then Principal Bear stepped out of his way and Fernando left the room.&rdquo;, Grace answers.<br /><br />&ldquo;I see.&rdquo;, Dr. Leary says.<br /><br />&ldquo;Now wait a minute!&rdquo;, Nurse Susan says out loud.<br /><br />&ldquo;Care to ask any of them?&rdquo;, Dr. Leary asks to her.<br /><br />Nurse Susan gives Dr. Leary another stern look before turning to the girls. &ldquo; Is what she says true?&rdquo;, she asks. They all say or nod &lsquo;yes.&rsquo; Nurse Susan asks, &ldquo;Did Fernando made any threats towards Principal Bear or any of the staff?&rdquo;<br /><br />They all answer &lsquo;no,&rsquo; with Mary adding her two cents in, &ldquo; If it were me I would knocked that stupid Panda on his ass.&rdquo;<br /><br />&ldquo;Ms MacAlpine...&rdquo;, Dr. Leary tells her sternly.<br /><br />&ldquo;Well, its true.&rdquo;, Mary beings to say, &ldquo; He treated Fernando like some field slave, saying hey boy and then &lsquo;hey can you hear me&rsquo; loudly like if he was deaf. We all know Fernando&rsquo;s blind, not deaf. If it were me I would have socked him one in the mouth for his verbal shit throwing.&rdquo;<br /><br />&ldquo;We don&rsquo;t condone threats and acts of violence here.&rdquo;, Nurse Susan tells her sternly.<br /><br />Dr. Leary throws in, &ldquo; You give that girl a wide berth. I will tell you know here and now that what violent tendencies she may have, has a medical reason behind it. Right now we have her calmed down and relax but confront her and threaten her, she will not and can&rsquo;t be held responsible for what happens next.&rdquo;<br /><br />&ldquo;Everyone&rsquo;s responsible for their actions!&rdquo;, Nurse Susan says out loud.<br /><br />Dr. Leary turns away from Nurse Susan for a second, nodding to Mary who nods back. Then she tells Nurse Susan, &ldquo;Rabies.&rdquo;<br /><br />&ldquo;Rabies?!! That is not possible!&rdquo;, Nurse Susan says out loud.<br /><br />&ldquo;Why not? She was bit by a rabid feral vampire bat as a toddler, and began to encroach on her brain but the doctors think they got it in time. They didn&rsquo;t and that control that we all have, she only has a part of. So its within your responsibility to keep her and the others here happy or she will flip and literally take somebody&rsquo;s head off.&rdquo;, Dr. Leary explains.<br /><br />Nurse Susan gulps, before nervously asking, &ldquo; And Fernando?&rdquo;<br /><br />&ldquo;Mary bit him and gave him Rabies. They are both sweet loving children when things are alright, but make them angry, they will go mad and, lets say Principal Bear is lucky to be alive right now. And he&rsquo;s worry about a desk being messed up, he does not know how lucky he is.&rdquo;, Dr. Leary tells her.<br /><br />&ldquo;Principal Bear needs to know about this.&rdquo;, Nurse Susan says more than loud enough to be heard.<br /><br />&ldquo;No he does not.&rdquo;, Dr. Leary tells her.<br /><br />&ldquo;I&rsquo;m the authority in these matters in this school.&rdquo;, Nurse Susan tells her.<br /><br />&ldquo;I told you there is a confidentiality that will not be broken, and this is it. You tell Principal Bear anything about the health status of these girls or Fernando, and I will have you facing a patient confidentiality inquiry faster than you can pack your bags and leave your office. And win or lose in this inquiry, you lose your nursing license. You lose your nursing license, you lose your job here. I don&rsquo;t care if Mr. Bear is principal of this school or of any other school. The confidentiality of my patients will be held at the utmost level of secrecy. Only under a court order or medical discussion with another doctor who replaces me are you to say anything about this. Not even to your staff you supervise are you to say anything about these children. Do you understand what I am telling you?&rdquo;, Dr. Leary reads her the riot act.<br /><br />&ldquo;Yes I do.&rdquo;, Nurse Susan tells her. After a second she gets the courage to add, &ldquo; And if anything major happens here in this school because of any of them, I will do what I have to have to protect this school and its students.&rdquo;<br /><br />&ldquo;Nurse Ermine &ndash; you are a medical professional first and an employee of this school second. If somebody in this school spreads fleas, ticks, lice, TB, The Pox, The Mumps, and anything else from a high fever to the common cold, you are to shut down this facility and quarantine it to stop the infection from spreading to&nbsp;&nbsp;the community. Ladies, lets go.&rdquo;, Dr. Leary tells Nurse Susan off before letting the girls to leave with her. They walk out of the area and to the exit.&nbsp;&nbsp; As they walk out the door, Principal Bear and the staff walks out of the classroom.<br /><br />&ldquo;I have decided that the boy will not be allowed in this school.&rdquo;, Principal Bear says out loud to Nurse Susan.<br /><br />&ldquo;You can&rsquo;t do that!&rdquo;, Nurse Susan replies loudly.<br /><br />&ldquo;Why not? Its my school and I have the say in who is a student here and who is not.&rdquo;, Principal Bear tells him.<br /><br />&ldquo;I spoke to the girls and they all said that you disrespected him by calling him &lsquo;hey boy and making a statement that he&rsquo;s deaf! He&rsquo;s blind, Principal Bear. Not deaf! That is the ultimate disrespect you can throw at any student, especially a handicapped one! You better hope he does not come in on opening school day with lawyers, members of the school board and representatives from the Citizens with Disabilities League, because if he does, you are going to be fired! Before that happens, the least you can do is go to that boy&rsquo;s house and apologize for disrespecting him.&rdquo;, Nurse Susan tells him.<br /><br />She begins to walk away, with Principal Bear calling to her, &ldquo;Where are you going, Nurse Ermine!&rdquo;<br /><br />&ldquo;I&rsquo;m going to get my resume together, because if you get fired for disrespecting a student, I don&rsquo;t want to be here for the fallout and aftermath!&rdquo;, Nurse Susan tells him as she walks away from him. <br /><br />&ldquo;That was rather uncalled for.&rdquo;, one teacher says in the group.<br /><br />&ldquo;You believe that, me go to the boy&rsquo;s home and apologize to him? You know what kind of problems that will bring up.&rdquo;, Principal Bear says to them all.<br /><br />&ldquo;The students will walk over us.&rdquo;, another teacher says.<br /><br />&ldquo;Uhm... Mr. Panda Bear. I think you should apologize to him.&rdquo;, a third teacher says with a pile of folders in her arms, one of them opened for her to read.<br /><br />&ldquo;What are you talking about?&rdquo;, Principal Bear says as he turns to her. She puts the folder to his face. He takes it and reads it. His eyes grow wide as he reads what is printed in the folder.<br /><br />End of Chapter 59<br /></span>",
