"writing": "Chapter 36: Forgive, Forget and a Final Goodbye.\n\nFernando and Rachel relaxed enough to go in to a light sleep. But it was only to last a less than fifteen minutes as the door opens. Grandmother pushes the door open, then Jorge through the doorway.\n\n[Translated from Spanish]\n\n“Boy, if you ever embarrass me again, I’m cutting your tail off!”, Grandmother almost yells at him.\n\nRachel sits up, looking over the couch at them.\n\n“Now get to the bathroom and wash up!”, Grandmother keeps her voice from yelling. She looks at Rachel as she looks at her back. “Did Fernando wake up?”\n\n“Yes and then he went back to sleep.”, Rachel tells her.\n\n“If Fernando has a concussion, I’m going to kill that boy!”, Grandmother says.\n\nFernando slowly got up, turning to face Grandmother, “I’m fine grandma. Just tired.”\n\nShe looks at him and then at Rachel, walking over to the sofa to see what seating position they were in, though she didn’t really care if they did anything. She then pulls out a fur and hair brush and drops it on her lap.\n\n“Brush yourselves up. You two got five minutes before we leave.”, Grandmother tells them. \n\nRachel takes the brush and starts brushing Fernando’s hair with a few quick swipes of the brush. She then gives her self a couple of strokes with the brush before getting up. Fernando gets up slowly but searches the sofa for his cane which he can not find. Rachel trots over to the dining area and gets his cane from the dining room table where it was placed hours ago. She quickly goes back to him and puts it in his hand.\n\n“Thanks.”, he tells her in English.\n\n“Its OK.”, she says. Together they walk over and wait by the door. Grandmother walks over to the bathroom\n\n“Jorge! You Better Get Out Before I Start Counting To Ten! One!”, Grandmother yells through the door. It opens and Jorge steps out. She looks at him, “Lets go and you better behave!”\n\nThey walk out of the apartment and head down outside, making their way to the funeral parlor. They get there a couple of minutes after 6PM.\n\nGrandmother sets them on their way to the two coffins, telling to give them a prayer and respect for the dead. She walks over to her friend Olga Mendez. They embrace for a while before sitting down.\n\n“I’m glad you made it.”, Olga says to her friend.\n\n“I would not leave without seeing you and your family first.”, Grandmother tells her. A couple of women approach Grandmother from behind, the mothers of Francis and Rachel Rodriguez and Grace Crambrilian. They both sit in empty seats behind them as their actions were noticed.\n\n“When ever you want to go home, we can take you there.”, Rachel R.’s mother tells them. “The minivan is parked right outside.”\n\n“You taking her home? Nonsense. I’ll have one of the limo drivers take them home.”, Olga tells her.\n\n“I would like to see where they live, check out the neighborhood, see the homes that are for sale.”, Rachel R.’s mother says to her.\n\n“You finally interested in buying a home in Pouncefield?”, Grandmother asks.\n\n“Yes… and no. What you said about our girls getting gang raped after all the boys are gone got me thinking.”, Rachel R.’s mother begin to say, then points to the other Rachel by Fernando. “Wasn’t she gang raped last year?”\n\nGrandmother nods.\n\n“I don’t want that to happen to either of my girls.”, Rachel R.’s says.\n\n“Though that girl has recovered a lot from her ordeal, there are still things we have to worry about. She still has an occasional nightmare about it but they are now few and far between.”, Grandmother tells her.\n\n“I don’t want that to happen to Grace either.”, Grace’s mother adds in.\n\n“Wasn’t those two white squirrels raped too?”, Olga says, motioning a finger to the girls’ direction.\n\n“One of them was raped. Not the other one.”, Grace’s mother answers.\n\n“But which one?”, Rachel R.’s mother asks.\n\n“That does not matter, they both seem to have been recovered.”, Grandmother answers.\n\n“No one can tell unless she is observed having sex with a mate, and only then would anyone know.”, Olga tries to explain.\n\n“Actually no. Rape victims can develop either one of two personalities: Social Shut Ins who become too scared to leave their homes or Sexual Extroverts who want sex all the time. Neither of those girls seem to be social shut ins.”, Grandmother explains.\n\n“Neither does your Rachel.”, Rachel R.’s mother throws in.\n\n“My Rachel spends more time seeing mind bending doctors than she does going to school and studying. She’s not sex fiend nor is she shutting herself into her room and cry all night and day like she used too.”, Grandmother tells her sternly.\n\n“I didn’t mean it that way…”, Rachel R.’s mother tries to apologize.\n\n“Apologize nothing. Just watch your words and respect their meanings.”, Grandmother tells her. \n\nFernando arrives to Grandmother with Rachel’s help. Jorge on the other hand went to the girls. Grandmother keeps a weary eye on Jorge for a moment before switching over to her number one grandson.\n\n“We’re done.”, Rachel tells her.\n\n“Good. Now go hang out with your friends while I discuss some adult matters with the ladies.”, Grandmother tells them.\n\n“OK.”, Rachel says as she suddenly hauls Fernando away by the wrist.\n\n“She seems to be happy.”, Grace’s mother says. “Is she always that attached to your boy?”\n\n“You know he cant see.”, Olga tells her. “The poor girl seems to helping him to help herself.”\n\n“I prefer it that way.”, Grandmother says.\n\n“Huh?”, Grace and Rachel R.’s mothers both say together.\n\n“Jorge is not willing to help his blind brother even though he has helped with things you could not imagine. He is also jealous of his older brother getting all the attention, even though its Fernando that needs the most help. Now if Rachel is willing to be a loving adopted sister to Fernando, I don’t have to worry about him or about Jorge fighting him…”. Grandmother says.\n\nSeveral more people arrive, some with their children in tow, friends of the Mendez boys from school and around the neighborhood.\n\n“Jorge fights his handicapped brother?”, Grace’s mother asks.\n\n“I’m afraid that he’s going to kill him, but don’t think Fernando is helpless. He’s been able to beat the crap out of that bastard in a fair fight. I’m not giving Fernando the Alpha Status of the house, he has earned it himself and rightfully so.”, Grandmother explains.\n\n“How can a blind boy fight?”, Grace’s mother asks.\n\n“He has his way…”, Grandmother answers as minimally as possible. “Anyways, I made a few phone calls to my realtor, she says that there are six completed homes for sale on my block and 4 more being build on the block being built after mine. Pouncefield is a slow growing community.”\n\n“How much are they?”, Rachel R.’s mother asks.\n\n“My place was twenty-five thousand, but it was a rebuilt home. New homes are thirty to forty thousand, depending on how big it is.”, Grandmother answers.\n\n“What about taxes on the property.”, Grace’s mother asks.\n\n“There is no property tax.”, Grandmother answers.\n\n“No!”, Olga beats the others from saying it. “How do they manage to support the community?”\n\n“The state pays for everything, but since there is no property tax, there is a high sales tax on things like clothes and food. Almost twenty percent.”, Grandmother explains.\n\n“That is very high…”, Grace’s mother says.\n\n“Not really.”, Grandmother starts to say. “A can of ravioli here is almost two dollars, with eight percent tax, lets make it two twenty-five. There the same can of ravioli in Pouncefield is seventy-five cents, with twenty percent tax its less than a dollar, more than half the price of here. And its like that for everything! Clothes, food, furniture, even gasoline for your minivan!”\n\n“Wow…”, both Grace and Rachel R.’s mother say.\n\n“What about the school?”, Olga asks.\n\n“Its one of the best in the nation.”, Grandmother starts to explain. “I looked over the internet figures for scores, college acceptance, and scholarship opportunities in New York City and Poucefield. Though New York City has the most schools, the scores when put against the student population is very low. Even if there are high ranking schools in the city with very high scores, our kids want be going there because you they are set up to fail. Now Pouncefield has a few schools and most are K through 12 in a single building. They have a low teacher to student ratio and they want every student to succeed. Thus their scores are through the roof with eighty percent of them getting some scholarship and over ninety percent going to college. New York City does not come close.”\n\nWandaine’s mother joins in the conversation, asking her own questions. Grandmother, knowing who she is, answers her questions truthfully. Doing the math in her head, even at forty-thousand dollars at a two percent interest on a twenty year mortgage, comes to less than two thousand five hundred dollars a year, which makes it less than half the rent for her four hundred and fifty dollar a month apartment.\n\nWandaline herself kept a distance from the other girls when Fernando entered the chapel, waiting for that moment for her to step up to him when he got close enough. Rachel seemed to have lead him right toward her, forcing them to stop when she stepped out in front of them. The two girls stared at each other before Wandaline turned to Fernando.\n\n“Wandaline…”, Rachel starts to say. Instead of getting a verbal answer, she gets a physical one as Wandaline pounces on Fernando, giving him a more than passionate kiss than necessary. The adult ladies sees what is happening, Wandaline’s mother tries to get up and stop her daughter from such a display of affection only to have Olga take her by the wrist.\n\n“Let them.”, Olga says to her. “If some happiness can come out of this sad time, then I welcome it.”\n\n“But…”, Wandaline’s mother started to say.\n\n“All our daughters have kissed up on that boy.”, Grace’s mother started to say.\n\n“I would if I was their age.”, Rachel R.’s mother stated.\n\n“You have nothing to worry about with Fernando. Its Jorge that brings in trouble.”, Grandmother says.\n\n“He has been a light in this dark community for a few years now.”, Olga tells her, “From being the school board community number one student to the best life guard Jefferson pool has seen in its history. He has been a driving force against gangs and crimes here. If I had a daughter his age I would let her be with him as often as possible.”\n\n“There is a limit as to what kids should do in terms of affection!”, Wandaline’s mother stated.\n\n“So she misses Fernando.”, Grace’s mother says. “So does my Grace. She has been sad ever since he moved away.”\n\n“Rachel has not been a happy child since he move away either.”, Rachel R.’s mother stated.\n\n“If you are afraid that they might get too intimate, then don’t. Even if she were to drop her panties for him, Fernando is respectable of girls and would not take advantage of her like that.”, Grandmother tells her. “It’s the younger boy that is a problem.”\n\nWandaline’s mother thinks about it for a moment. Then she calls out for her daughter to come, “Wandaline! Come here now!”\n\nWandaline freezes in place, like a deer caught in headlights. Her mother calls to her one more time, making her let go of Fernando from the precarious position she had him in, dropping him to the floor before stepping over him to run to her mother’s side. If Rachel was not near by to catch him, he would have hit the carpeted floor hard. The other girls gather around him to help him up after having seen the whole thing from the beginning.\n\nWandaline stands in front of her mother, nervous and scared as to what she would do.\n\n“Wandaline… you know better. But I underestimated your feelings for the boy. Look… we’ll talk about this later. Just watch yourself in what you do so you don’t make a fool out of yourself.”, her mother tells her. Wandaline just nods quickly and nervously. “You can go now. Remember what I told you, and apologize to the boy for dropping him!”, her mother adds as she points back a the group.\n\nWandaline takes a couple of nervous steps backwards before turning round and runs back to Fernando to try to undo what she had done.\n\n“That’s one skittish girl you have there.”, Olga says.\n\n“She’s coming of age and cant seem to handle her own feelings.”, Wandaline’s mother replies.\n\n“She’s a late bloomer?”, Grandmother asks.\n\n“When it comes to boys, yes. But she’s been having her seasonal cycle since she was 10.”, Wandaline’s mother answers.\n\n“Fernando is the best choice out there. At least she is not hanging out with gang members.”, Rachel R.’s mother states, adding, “she would have been gang banged a long time ago.”\n\n“You don’t understand.”, Wandaline’s mother tries to say.\n\n“We know you’re a Santeria Priestess. We know your daughter is following in your footsteps. We all practice it in some level or another but not on the level you are on.”, Grace’s mother tells her. “I heard a rumor that your little girl turned a boy into a girl because he was calling her some mean things and she turned him into a girl to make him feel how it is to be a girl and be called all that. That takes some guts to do.”\n\n“She did what?”, Wandaline’s mother asked sternly.\n\n“That was a long time ago.”, Grace’s mother asks. “Lets see… who is that black one next to the two white twins?”\n\n“Who- oh, that’s Juanita.”, Grandmother answers.\n\n“OK…”, Grace’s mother says. “Juanita, dear… come here please!”, she calls to her, needing to switch to English for the moment.\n\nThe girls look at the group of women before nudging Juanita out the group. Juanita arrives to them, her parents follow her to them. The ladies look at the parents, then Grace’s mother asks the question. Olga translates everything for Grandmother.\n\n“Juanita… remember early in the school year, when something happened? What happened?”, Grace’s mother asks.\n\n“What do you mean?”, Juanita asks.\n\n“Something about my daughter turning a boy into a girl… is that true?”, Wandeline’s mother asks.\n\n“Oh…”, Juanita says. “Yes, that happened.”\n\n“Why, I’m going to have a talk with my girl…”, Wandaline’s mother says, holding back her anger.\n\n“You see… the gang boys tried to beat up on Fernando that day during lunch and we girls protected him. But when the gang boys threatened us with rape and violence, Wandaline turned one of them into a girl, and the gang boys chased after her.”, Juanita explains.\n\n“See… it was justified.”, Olga says to Wandaline’s mother.\n\n“I got my own way of turning a nasty boy into a good little girl.”, Grandmother says in her native tongue, opening and closing a couple of fingers like a pair of scissors.\n\n“Juanita… why did you not tell us about what happened that day?”, Juanita’s father steps into the conversation.\n\n“Well… none of us got hurt. And it kept the gang boys away from us for most of the year.”, Juanita tells him.\n\n“We’ll talk about it when we get back home. Now go back to your friends.”, her father tells her.\n\n“Yes father…”, Juanita says before trudging back to the girls.\n\nGrandmother looks at the distraught look Juanita had when she left, then turns to her father, telling him of in a broken form of English that she knows, “You no punish that girl. She protected my boy!”\n\n“What?”, Juanita’s father asks in awe.\n\n“You heard her, sir.”, Olga tells him. “These girls have been protecting what few boys there are in this community. We are here because there was no such protection for my boys and look at them. In fancy boxes to be put into the ground… If I had such girls, I would be praising them for their good work.”\n\n“She’s my daughter and I don’t like the her to be exposed to this sort of thing.”, Juanita’s father tells her.\n\n“Oh really. Fernando…”, Olga calls to him. With Rachel help, he arrives to Ms Mendez’s side.\n\n“Yes?”, he asks.\n\n“Tell me my boy. Is Juanita a good girl?”, Olga asks.\n\n“Juanita?”, he asks.\n\n“Yes.”, Olga answers.\n\n“Uhm… well, yes. She helped me out in school, leading me around to some of my classes, but all the girls do that for me.”, Fernando explains.\n\n“Why must you be lead around?”, Juanita’s father asks.\n\n“Because he’s blind. Can you see that?”, Grace’s mother throws in.\n\n“I can see that he is blind. But I hear he can do so many things despite his handicap.”, Juanita’s father says.\n\n“My brother tries his best not to need help with anything, but there are limits as to what he can do!”, Rachel snaps at Juanita’s father. “So what he was a life guard at Jefferson Pool, despite his handicap! So what there were several life guards backing him up because he could not see! So what he did several rescues a week because his ears can pick up someone drowning before the other lifeguards could see it! So what he memorized every inch of that pool’s facility so he can walk about it without help! It don’t matter that he’s blind because he can do what he needs to do but sometimes he needs help- like walking about this funeral place because he was never in it and had not put these paths to memory! Juanita and all the other girls help him when he needs help, not because he’s begging for attention! But at home- where he has everything memorized, he functions like a normal person! That’s what you know, mister!”\n\n“Why I never…”, he says. The girls slowly gather around their parents.\n\n“Well maybe you should have once in a while.”, Wandaline’s mother tells him. “I see no concern about Fernando being with girls. But let me remind you, mister, why we are here. Those two boys is why we are here. A gang of black squirrels did them in is why we are here. Now I’m not pulling out the color card, but think of these options- since your daughter is black, she would be the first one out of our girls to be taken into the gang and gang raped. You want that for your little girl? I know that somewhere on that list my daughter’s name is on it, and I am going to do everything within my power to remove her from that list or die trying.”\n\n“I already removed her from that list by moving the family to Pouncefield.”, he tells her.\n\n“Good for you then.”, Wandaline’s mother tells him. “Soon it will be our turn.”\n\n“Lets remember why we are here.”, Rachel R.’s mother says out loud.\n\n“Cathy and Kathy… get ready to leave.”, their mother calls to them. “You two know we have an important appointment tomorrow.”\n\n“Yes mother…”, they both say together.\n\n“Sir…”, a white adult mouse female steps up to Juanita’s father. “Handicap or not, that boy saved my daughter Jeanie from the school’s pool when somebody pushed her in the deep end. He may not have seen who have done it but he dove in after her and pulled her out because she can not swim. I trust that boy with everything and owe him my daughter’s life.”\n\nSeveral individuals walk in wearing gang colours and stand behind the crowd. \n\n“Aint this fitting.”, a white blonde haired mouse says. “Now lets get to why we are here.”, as he walks through the crowd with his gang member friends and stops by Fernando. He looks at the adults at one side and the girls behind Fernando.\n\n“(Gang Member ) Jorge… the last time I saw you, you were running away like some little girl… because you were little girl.”, Fernando tells him.\n\n“Yeah, cute. You are coming with us or else.”, Gang Member Jorge tells him.\n\n“I’m not leaving until I’m ready to go home.”, Fernando tells him.\n\n“Have it your way… boys…”, Gang Member Jorge says.\n\nThe sounds of guns and other assorted weapons can be heard being put into view. More than those who came in anticipated. Everyone looks around, seeing nearly every adult there with enough fire power to declare war on a small nation, more then triple what the gang had came in with. Olga gets up and walks to behind Fernando, having a police special .38 revolver in her hand aimed at Gang Member Jorge from over Fernando’s shoulder. The door to the chapel closes from the outside.\n\n“Little boy, you don’t know what trouble you have started, but let me introduce you to Doc, Lefty, 4-finger Louie, Crazy Indian Joe, Chain Master James, Tommy Two Guns, Mickey the Butcher and all their friend from the Hells Angels and the Mafia. You want to play with gangs, I brought a few friends of my own for you to play with. And while you’re playing with my friends, the police is going to join in the game and lock up your bushy tails behind bars.”, Olga says to him. She holds up her closed fist, showing the side of it. “See that tiny circle? That’s your ass hole now before you go to jail.” Then she holds up her hand curled in the letter ‘C’, “And that is going to be your ass hole while in jail. Doc… take care of them.”\n\n“Sure thing Olga.”, an old scruffy looking rat says as he walks to one in the back of the group and puts a canvas bag over his head and proceeds to tie him up. The others join in on bagging and tying gang members and confiscating their weapons. In a matter of minutes the work is done except for one: Gang Member Jorge. His weapon was taken away but otherwise was left alone.\n\n“Fernando. He’s yours.”, Olga tells him.\n\nFernando nods, reaching forward quickly that the eyes could not see him move, grab the top of his hair, twist his arm about forcing the blonde hair squirrel to arch backwards, and drag him to the two coffins. Rachel follows, as did the other girls, followed by the parents.\n\n“Yo Bro… I’m going to need a little help here.”, he calls out to his brother.\n\n“Sure thing.”, his brother Jorge says as Fernando forces the blonde squirrel into the kneeling bench.\n\nJorge grabs an arm and twists it behind the gang members back. Rachel does the same thing with the other arm as Fernando pulls back on his hair, making his head arch back against his neck.\n\n“Those are our friends in those coffins. God said to forgive and forget. But there are sins in this world that can not ever be forgiven. They are Immortal Sins. Murder is number one on that list. You understand me, boy?”, Fernando hissed at him. “Your crimes are as follows: murder of the Mendez Boys, murder of the Bunny Boy Antonio, rape and gang rape of Mary MacAlpine, rape and gang rape of my little sister Rachel, rape and gang rape of many girls out there including your female gang members, theft of numerous vehicles and assorted items, drug trafficking, weapons possessions, any crimes those weapons are tied too, robbery of various little old ladies through out the community, conspiracy to conduct such crimes and what other unsolved crimes that can be tied to you and the boys. DNA, fingerprints and video from hidden cameras are the evidence tying you and the gang to these crimes. I don’t care how you plead, there is no way on this God’s Earth are you and your friends are innocent of these crimes. You will be joining your two friends Ricky Stansbury and Alfonzo Munez in jail with life sentences with no parole and some black mofo named Bubbah humping your tail hole every night because you are going to be his girlfriend for the rest of your life in prison.”\n\nFernando lets him go and starts walking away. “Tie him up and put him with the others.”, he tells everyone, the anger still in his voice but also tiredness. He makes it past the first row of seats before passing out.\n\nEnd of: Forgive, Forget and a Final Goodbye.",

But it was only to last a less than fifteen minutes as the door opens. Grandmother pushes the door open, then Jorge through the doorway.<br /><br />[Translated from Spanish]<br /><br />&ldquo;Boy, if you ever embarrass me again, I&rsquo;m cutting your tail off!&rdquo;, Grandmother almost yells at him.<br /><br />Rachel sits up, looking over the couch at them.<br /><br />&ldquo;Now get to the bathroom and wash up!&rdquo;, Grandmother keeps her voice from yelling. She looks at Rachel as she looks at her back. &ldquo;Did Fernando wake up?&rdquo;<br /><br />&ldquo;Yes and then he went back to sleep.&rdquo;, Rachel tells her.<br /><br />&ldquo;If Fernando has a concussion, I&rsquo;m going to kill that boy!&rdquo;, Grandmother says.<br /><br />Fernando slowly got up, turning to face Grandmother, &ldquo;I&rsquo;m fine grandma. Just tired.&rdquo;<br /><br />She looks at him and then at Rachel, walking over to the sofa to see what seating position they were in, though she didn&rsquo;t really care if they did anything. She then pulls out a fur and hair brush and drops it on her lap.<br /><br />&ldquo;Brush yourselves up. You two got five minutes before we leave.&rdquo;, Grandmother tells them. <br /><br />Rachel takes the brush and starts brushing Fernando&rsquo;s hair with a few quick swipes of the brush. She then gives her self a couple of strokes with the brush before getting up. Fernando gets up slowly but searches the sofa for his cane which he can not find. Rachel trots over to the dining area and gets his cane from the dining room table where it was placed hours ago. She quickly goes back to him and puts it in his hand.<br /><br />&ldquo;Thanks.&rdquo;, he tells her in English.<br /><br />&ldquo;Its OK.&rdquo;, she says. Together they walk over and wait by the door. Grandmother walks over to the bathroom<br /><br />&ldquo;Jorge! You Better Get Out Before I Start Counting To Ten! One!&rdquo;, Grandmother yells through the door. It opens and Jorge steps out. She looks at him, &ldquo;Lets go and you better behave!&rdquo;<br /><br />They walk out of the apartment and head down outside, making their way to the funeral parlor. They get there a couple of minutes after 6PM.<br /><br />Grandmother sets them on their way to the two coffins, telling to give them a prayer and respect for the dead. She walks over to her friend Olga Mendez. They embrace for a while before sitting down.<br /><br />&ldquo;I&rsquo;m glad you made it.&rdquo;, Olga says to her friend.<br /><br />&ldquo;I would not leave without seeing you and your family first.&rdquo;, Grandmother tells her. A couple of women approach Grandmother from behind, the mothers of Francis and Rachel Rodriguez and Grace Crambrilian. They both sit in empty seats behind them as their actions were noticed.<br /><br />&ldquo;When ever you want to go home, we can take you there.&rdquo;, Rachel R.&rsquo;s mother tells them. &ldquo; The minivan is parked right outside.&rdquo;<br /><br />&ldquo;You taking her home? Nonsense. I&rsquo;ll have one of the limo drivers take them home.&rdquo;, Olga tells her.<br /><br />&ldquo;I would like to see where they live, check out the neighborhood, see the homes that are for sale.&rdquo;, Rachel R.&rsquo;s mother says to her.<br /><br />&ldquo;You finally interested in buying a home in Pouncefield?&rdquo;, Grandmother asks.<br /><br />&ldquo;Yes&hellip; and no. What you said about our girls getting gang raped after all the boys are gone got me thinking.&rdquo;, Rachel R.&rsquo;s mother begin to say, then points to the other Rachel by Fernando. &ldquo;Wasn&rsquo;t she gang raped last year?&rdquo;<br /><br />Grandmother nods.<br /><br />&ldquo;I don&rsquo;t want that to happen to either of my girls.&rdquo;, Rachel R.&rsquo;s says.<br /><br />&ldquo;Though that girl has recovered a lot from her ordeal, there are still things we have to worry about. She still has an occasional nightmare about it but they are now few and far between.&rdquo;, Grandmother tells her.<br /><br />&ldquo;I don&rsquo;t want that to happen to Grace either.&rdquo;, Grace&rsquo;s mother adds in.<br /><br />&ldquo;Wasn&rsquo;t those two white squirrels raped too?&rdquo;, Olga says, motioning a finger to the girls&rsquo; direction.<br /><br />&ldquo;One of them was raped. Not the other one.&rdquo;, Grace&rsquo;s mother answers.<br /><br />&ldquo;But which one?&rdquo;, Rachel R.&rsquo;s mother asks.<br /><br />&ldquo;That does not matter, they both seem to have been recovered.&rdquo;, Grandmother answers.<br /><br />&ldquo;No one can tell unless she is observed having sex with a mate, and only then would anyone know.&rdquo;, Olga tries to explain.<br /><br />&ldquo;Actually no. Rape victims can develop either one of two personalities: Social Shut Ins who become too scared to leave their homes or Sexual Extroverts who want sex all the time. Neither of those girls seem to be social shut ins.&rdquo;, Grandmother explains.<br /><br />&ldquo;Neither does your Rachel.&rdquo;, Rachel R.&rsquo;s mother throws in.<br /><br />&ldquo;My Rachel spends more time seeing mind bending doctors than she does going to school and studying. She&rsquo;s not sex fiend nor is she shutting herself into her room and cry all night and day like she used too.&rdquo;, Grandmother tells her sternly.<br /><br />&ldquo;I didn&rsquo;t mean it that way&hellip;&rdquo;, Rachel R.&rsquo;s mother tries to apologize.<br /><br />&ldquo;Apologize nothing. Just watch your words and respect their meanings.&rdquo;, Grandmother tells her. <br /><br />Fernando arrives to Grandmother with Rachel&rsquo;s help. Jorge on the other hand went to the girls. Grandmother keeps a weary eye on Jorge for a moment before switching over to her number one grandson.<br /><br />&ldquo;We&rsquo;re done.&rdquo;, Rachel tells her.<br /><br />&ldquo;Good. Now go hang out with your friends while I discuss some adult matters with the ladies.&rdquo;, Grandmother tells them.<br /><br />&ldquo;OK.&rdquo;, Rachel says as she suddenly hauls Fernando away by the wrist.<br /><br />&ldquo;She seems to be happy.&rdquo;, Grace&rsquo;s mother says. &ldquo; Is she always that attached to your boy?&rdquo;<br /><br />&ldquo;You know he cant see.&rdquo;, Olga tells her. &ldquo; The poor girl seems to helping him to help herself.&rdquo;<br /><br />&ldquo;I prefer it that way.&rdquo;, Grandmother says.<br /><br />&ldquo;Huh?&rdquo;, Grace and Rachel R.&rsquo;s mothers both say together.<br /><br />&ldquo;Jorge is not willing to help his blind brother even though he has helped with things you could not imagine. He is also jealous of his older brother getting all the attention, even though its Fernando that needs the most help. Now if Rachel is willing to be a loving adopted sister to Fernando, I don&rsquo;t have to worry about him or about Jorge fighting him&hellip;&rdquo;. Grandmother says.<br /><br />Several more people arrive, some with their children in tow, friends of the Mendez boys from school and around the neighborhood.<br /><br />&ldquo;Jorge fights his handicapped brother?&rdquo;, Grace&rsquo;s mother asks.<br /><br />&ldquo;I&rsquo;m afraid that he&rsquo;s going to kill him, but don&rsquo;t think Fernando is helpless. He&rsquo;s been able to beat the crap out of that bastard in a fair fight. I&rsquo;m not giving Fernando the Alpha Status of the house, he has earned it himself and rightfully so.&rdquo;, Grandmother explains.<br /><br />&ldquo;How can a blind boy fight?&rdquo;, Grace&rsquo;s mother asks.<br /><br />&ldquo;He has his way&hellip;&rdquo;, Grandmother answers as minimally as possible. &ldquo;Anyways, I made a few phone calls to my realtor, she says that there are six completed homes for sale on my block and 4 more being build on the block being built after mine. Pouncefield is a slow growing community.&rdquo;<br /><br />&ldquo;How much are they?&rdquo;, Rachel R.&rsquo;s mother asks.<br /><br />&ldquo;My place was twenty-five thousand, but it was a rebuilt home. New homes are thirty to forty thousand, depending on how big it is.&rdquo;, Grandmother answers.<br /><br />&ldquo;What about taxes on the property.&rdquo;, Grace&rsquo;s mother asks.<br /><br />&ldquo;There is no property tax.&rdquo;, Grandmother answers.<br /><br />&ldquo;No!&rdquo;, Olga beats the others from saying it. &ldquo; How do they manage to support the community?&rdquo;<br /><br />&ldquo;The state pays for everything, but since there is no property tax, there is a high sales tax on things like clothes and food. Almost twenty percent.&rdquo;, Grandmother explains.<br /><br />&ldquo;That is very high&hellip;&rdquo;, Grace&rsquo;s mother says.<br /><br />&ldquo;Not really.&rdquo;, Grandmother starts to say. &ldquo;A can of ravioli here is almost two dollars, with eight percent tax, lets make it two twenty-five. There the same can of ravioli in Pouncefield is seventy-five cents, with twenty percent tax its less than a dollar, more than half the price of here. And its like that for everything! Clothes, food, furniture, even gasoline for your minivan!&rdquo;<br /><br />&ldquo;Wow&hellip;&rdquo;, both Grace and Rachel R.&rsquo;s mother say.<br /><br />&ldquo;What about the school?&rdquo;, Olga asks.<br /><br />&ldquo;Its one of the best in the nation.&rdquo;, Grandmother starts to explain. &ldquo;I looked over the internet figures for scores, college acceptance, and scholarship opportunities in New York City and Poucefield. New York City does not come close.&rdquo;<br /><br />Wandaine&rsquo;s mother joins in the conversation, asking her own questions. Grandmother, knowing who she is, answers her questions truthfully. Doing the math in her head, even at forty-thousand dollars at a two percent interest on a twenty year mortgage, comes to less than two thousand five hundred dollars a year, which makes it less than half the rent for her four hundred and fifty dollar a month apartment.<br /><br />Wandaline herself kept a distance from the other girls when Fernando entered the chapel, waiting for that moment for her to step up to him when he got close enough. Rachel seemed to have lead him right toward her, forcing them to stop when she stepped out in front of them. The two girls stared at each other before Wandaline turned to Fernando.<br /><br />&ldquo;Wandaline&hellip;&rdquo;, Rachel starts to say. Instead of getting a verbal answer, she gets a physical one as Wandaline pounces on Fernando, giving him a more than passionate kiss than necessary. The adult ladies sees what is happening, Wandaline&rsquo;s mother tries to get up and stop her daughter from such a display of affection only to have Olga take her by the wrist.<br /><br />&ldquo;Let them.&rdquo;, Olga says to her. &ldquo; If some happiness can come out of this sad time, then I welcome it.&rdquo;<br /><br />&ldquo;But&hellip;&rdquo;, Wandaline&rsquo;s mother started to say.<br /><br />&ldquo;All our daughters have kissed up on that boy.&rdquo;, Grace&rsquo;s mother started to say.<br /><br />&ldquo;I would if I was their age.&rdquo;, Rachel R.&rsquo;s mother stated.<br /><br />&ldquo;You have nothing to worry about with Fernando. Its Jorge that brings in trouble.&rdquo;, Grandmother says.<br /><br />&ldquo;He has been a light in this dark community for a few years now.&rdquo;, Olga tells her, &ldquo; From being the school board community number one student to the best life guard Jefferson pool has seen in its history. He has been a driving force against gangs and crimes here. If I had a daughter his age I would let her be with him as often as possible.&rdquo;<br /><br />&ldquo;There is a limit as to what kids should do in terms of affection!&rdquo;, Wandaline&rsquo;s mother stated.<br /><br />&ldquo;So she misses Fernando.&rdquo;, Grace&rsquo;s mother says. &ldquo; So does my Grace. She has been sad ever since he moved away.&rdquo;<br /><br />&ldquo;Rachel has not been a happy child since he move away either.&rdquo;, Rachel R.&rsquo;s mother stated.<br /><br />&ldquo;If you are afraid that they might get too intimate, then don&rsquo;t. Even if she were to drop her panties for him, Fernando is respectable of girls and would not take advantage of her like that.&rdquo;, Grandmother tells her. &ldquo; It&rsquo;s the younger boy that is a problem.&rdquo;<br /><br />Wandaline&rsquo;s mother thinks about it for a moment. Then she calls out for her daughter to come, &ldquo;Wandaline! Come here now!&rdquo;<br /><br />Wandaline freezes in place, like a deer caught in headlights. Her mother calls to her one more time, making her let go of Fernando from the precarious position she had him in, dropping him to the floor before stepping over him to run to her mother&rsquo;s side. If Rachel was not near by to catch him, he would have hit the carpeted floor hard. The other girls gather around him to help him up after having seen the whole thing from the beginning.<br /><br />Wandaline stands in front of her mother, nervous and scared as to what she would do.<br /><br />&ldquo;Wandaline&hellip; you know better. But I underestimated your feelings for the boy. Look&hellip; we&rsquo;ll talk about this later. Just watch yourself in what you do so you don&rsquo;t make a fool out of yourself.&rdquo;, her mother tells her. Wandaline just nods quickly and nervously. &ldquo; You can go now. Remember what I told you, and apologize to the boy for dropping him!&rdquo;, her mother adds as she points back a the group.<br /><br />Wandaline takes a couple of nervous steps backwards before turning round and runs back to Fernando to try to undo what she had done.<br /><br />&ldquo;That&rsquo;s one skittish girl you have there.&rdquo;, Olga says.<br /><br />&ldquo;She&rsquo;s coming of age and cant seem to handle her own feelings.&rdquo;, Wandaline&rsquo;s mother replies.<br /><br />&ldquo;She&rsquo;s a late bloomer?&rdquo;, Grandmother asks.<br /><br />&ldquo;When it comes to boys, yes. But she&rsquo;s been having her seasonal cycle since she was 10.&rdquo;, Wandaline&rsquo;s mother answers.<br /><br />&ldquo;Fernando is the best choice out there. At least she is not hanging out with gang members.&rdquo;, Rachel R.&rsquo;s mother states, adding, &ldquo;she would have been gang banged a long time ago.&rdquo;<br /><br />&ldquo;You don&rsquo;t understand.&rdquo;, Wandaline&rsquo;s mother tries to say.<br /><br />&ldquo;We know you&rsquo;re a Santeria Priestess. We know your daughter is following in your footsteps. We all practice it in some level or another but not on the level you are on.&rdquo;, Grace&rsquo;s mother tells her. &ldquo;I heard a rumor that your little girl turned a boy into a girl because he was calling her some mean things and she turned him into a girl to make him feel how it is to be a girl and be called all that. That takes some guts to do.&rdquo;<br /><br />&ldquo;She did what?&rdquo;, Wandaline&rsquo;s mother asked sternly.<br /><br />&ldquo;That was a long time ago.&rdquo;, Grace&rsquo;s mother asks. &ldquo;Lets see&hellip; who is that black one next to the two white twins?&rdquo;<br /><br />&ldquo;Who- oh, that&rsquo;s Juanita.&rdquo;, Grandmother answers.<br /><br />&ldquo;OK&hellip;&rdquo;, Grace&rsquo;s mother says. &ldquo;Juanita, dear&hellip; come here please!&rdquo;, she calls to her, needing to switch to English for the moment.<br /><br />The girls look at the group of women before nudging Juanita out the group. Juanita arrives to them, her parents follow her to them. The ladies look at the parents, then Grace&rsquo;s mother asks the question. Olga translates everything for Grandmother.<br /><br />&ldquo;Juanita&hellip; remember early in the school year, when something happened? What happened?&rdquo;, Grace&rsquo;s mother asks.<br /><br />&ldquo;What do you mean?&rdquo;, Juanita asks.<br /><br />&ldquo;Something about my daughter turning a boy into a girl&hellip; is that true?&rdquo;, Wandeline&rsquo;s mother asks.<br /><br />&ldquo;Oh&hellip;&rdquo;, Juanita says. &ldquo;Yes, that happened.&rdquo;<br /><br />&ldquo;Why, I&rsquo;m going to have a talk with my girl&hellip;&rdquo;, Wandaline&rsquo;s mother says, holding back her anger.<br /><br />&ldquo;You see&hellip; the gang boys tried to beat up on Fernando that day during lunch and we girls protected him. But when the gang boys threatened us with rape and violence, Wandaline turned one of them into a girl, and the gang boys chased after her.&rdquo;, Juanita explains.<br /><br />&ldquo;See&hellip; it was justified.&rdquo;, Olga says to Wandaline&rsquo;s mother.<br /><br />&ldquo;I got my own way of turning a nasty boy into a good little girl.&rdquo;, Grandmother says in her native tongue, opening and closing a couple of fingers like a pair of scissors.<br /><br />&ldquo;Juanita&hellip; why did you not tell us about what happened that day?&rdquo;, Juanita&rsquo;s father steps into the conversation.<br /><br />&ldquo;Well&hellip; none of us got hurt. And it kept the gang boys away from us for most of the year.&rdquo;, Juanita tells him.<br /><br />&ldquo;We&rsquo;ll talk about it when we get back home. Now go back to your friends.&rdquo;, her father tells her.<br /><br />&ldquo;Yes father&hellip;&rdquo;, Juanita says before trudging back to the girls.<br /><br />Grandmother looks at the distraught look Juanita had when she left, then turns to her father, telling him of in a broken form of English that she knows, &ldquo; You no punish that girl. She protected my boy!&rdquo;<br /><br />&ldquo;What?&rdquo;, Juanita&rsquo;s father asks in awe.<br /><br />&ldquo;You heard her, sir.&rdquo;, Olga tells him. &ldquo; These girls have been protecting what few boys there are in this community. We are here because there was no such protection for my boys and look at them. In fancy boxes to be put into the ground&hellip; If I had such girls, I would be praising them for their good work.&rdquo;<br /><br />&ldquo;She&rsquo;s my daughter and I don&rsquo;t like the her to be exposed to this sort of thing.&rdquo;, Juanita&rsquo;s father tells her.<br /><br />&ldquo;Oh really. Fernando&hellip;&rdquo;, Olga calls to him. With Rachel help, he arrives to Ms Mendez&rsquo;s side.<br /><br />&ldquo;Yes?&rdquo;, he asks.<br /><br />&ldquo;Tell me my boy. Is Juanita a good girl?&rdquo;, Olga asks.<br /><br />&ldquo;Juanita?&rdquo;, he asks.<br /><br />&ldquo;Yes.&rdquo;, Olga answers.<br /><br />&ldquo;Uhm&hellip; well, yes. She helped me out in school, leading me around to some of my classes, but all the girls do that for me.&rdquo;, Fernando explains.<br /><br />&ldquo;Why must you be lead around?&rdquo;, Juanita&rsquo;s father asks.<br /><br />&ldquo;Because he&rsquo;s blind. Can you see that?&rdquo;, Grace&rsquo;s mother throws in.<br /><br />&ldquo;I can see that he is blind. But I hear he can do so many things despite his handicap.&rdquo;, Juanita&rsquo;s father says.<br /><br />&ldquo;My brother tries his best not to need help with anything, but there are limits as to what he can do!&rdquo;, Rachel snaps at Juanita&rsquo;s father. &ldquo; So what he was a life guard at Jefferson Pool, despite his handicap! So what there were several life guards backing him up because he could not see! So what he did several rescues a week because his ears can pick up someone drowning before the other lifeguards could see it! So what he memorized every inch of that pool&rsquo;s facility so he can walk about it without help! It don&rsquo;t matter that he&rsquo;s blind because he can do what he needs to do but sometimes he needs help- like walking about this funeral place because he was never in it and had not put these paths to memory! Juanita and all the other girls help him when he needs help, not because he&rsquo;s begging for attention! But at home- where he has everything memorized, he functions like a normal person! That&rsquo;s what you know, mister!&rdquo;<br /><br />&ldquo;Why I never&hellip;&rdquo;, he says. The girls slowly gather around their parents.<br /><br />&ldquo;Well maybe you should have once in a while.&rdquo;, Wandaline&rsquo;s mother tells him. &ldquo;I see no concern about Fernando being with girls. But let me remind you, mister, why we are here. Those two boys is why we are here. A gang of black squirrels did them in is why we are here. Now I&rsquo;m not pulling out the color card, but think of these options- since your daughter is black, she would be the first one out of our girls to be taken into the gang and gang raped. You want that for your little girl? I know that somewhere on that list my daughter&rsquo;s name is on it, and I am going to do everything within my power to remove her from that list or die trying.&rdquo;<br /><br />&ldquo;I already removed her from that list by moving the family to Pouncefield.&rdquo;, he tells her.<br /><br />&ldquo;Good for you then.&rdquo;, Wandaline&rsquo;s mother tells him. &ldquo;Soon it will be our turn.&rdquo;<br /><br />&ldquo;Lets remember why we are here.&rdquo;, Rachel R.&rsquo;s mother says out loud.<br /><br />&ldquo;Cathy and Kathy&hellip; get ready to leave.&rdquo;, their mother calls to them. &ldquo; You two know we have an important appointment tomorrow.&rdquo;<br /><br />&ldquo;Yes mother&hellip;&rdquo;, they both say together.<br /><br />&ldquo;Sir&hellip;&rdquo;, a white adult mouse female steps up to Juanita&rsquo;s father. &ldquo;Handicap or not, that boy saved my daughter Jeanie from the school&rsquo;s pool when somebody pushed her in the deep end. He may not have seen who have done it but he dove in after her and pulled her out because she can not swim. I trust that boy with everything and owe him my daughter&rsquo;s life.&rdquo;<br /><br />Several individuals walk in wearing gang colours and stand behind the crowd. <br /><br />&ldquo;Aint this fitting.&rdquo;, a white blonde haired mouse says. &ldquo; Now lets get to why we are here.&rdquo;, as he walks through the crowd with his gang member friends and stops by Fernando. He looks at the adults at one side and the girls behind Fernando.<br /><br />&ldquo;(Gang Member ) Jorge&hellip; the last time I saw you, you were running away like some little girl&hellip; because you were little girl.&rdquo;, Fernando tells him.<br /><br />&ldquo;Yeah, cute. You are coming with us or else.&rdquo;, Gang Member Jorge tells him.<br /><br />&ldquo;I&rsquo;m not leaving until I&rsquo;m ready to go home.&rdquo;, Fernando tells him.<br /><br />&ldquo;Have it your way&hellip; boys&hellip;&rdquo;, Gang Member Jorge says.<br /><br />The sounds of guns and other assorted weapons can be heard being put into view. More than those who came in anticipated. Everyone looks around, seeing nearly every adult there with enough fire power to declare war on a small nation, more then triple what the gang had came in with. Olga gets up and walks to behind Fernando, having a police special .38 revolver in her hand aimed at Gang Member Jorge from over Fernando&rsquo;s shoulder. The door to the chapel closes from the outside.<br /><br />&ldquo;Little boy, you don&rsquo;t know what trouble you have started, but let me introduce you to Doc, Lefty, 4-finger Louie, Crazy Indian Joe, Chain Master James, Tommy Two Guns, Mickey the Butcher and all their friend from the Hells Angels and the Mafia. You want to play with gangs, I brought a few friends of my own for you to play with. And while you&rsquo;re playing with my friends, the police is going to join in the game and lock up your bushy tails behind bars.&rdquo;, Olga says to him. She holds up her closed fist, showing the side of it. &ldquo;See that tiny circle? That&rsquo;s your ass hole now before you go to jail.&rdquo; Then she holds up her hand curled in the letter &lsquo;C&rsquo;, &ldquo; And that is going to be your ass hole while in jail. Doc&hellip; take care of them.&rdquo;<br /><br />&ldquo;Sure thing Olga.&rdquo;, an old scruffy looking rat says as he walks to one in the back of the group and puts a canvas bag over his head and proceeds to tie him up. The others join in on bagging and tying gang members and confiscating their weapons. In a matter of minutes the work is done except for one: Gang Member Jorge. His weapon was taken away but otherwise was left alone.<br /><br />&ldquo;Fernando. He&rsquo;s yours.&rdquo;, Olga tells him.<br /><br />Fernando nods, reaching forward quickly that the eyes could not see him move, grab the top of his hair, twist his arm about forcing the blonde hair squirrel to arch backwards, and drag him to the two coffins. Rachel follows, as did the other girls, followed by the parents.<br /><br />&ldquo;Yo Bro&hellip; I&rsquo;m going to need a little help here.&rdquo;, he calls out to his brother.<br /><br />&ldquo;Sure thing.&rdquo;, his brother Jorge says as Fernando forces the blonde squirrel into the kneeling bench.<br /><br />Jorge grabs an arm and twists it behind the gang members back. Rachel does the same thing with the other arm as Fernando pulls back on his hair, making his head arch back against his neck.<br /><br />&ldquo;Those are our friends in those coffins. God said to forgive and forget. But there are sins in this world that can not ever be forgiven. They are Immortal Sins. Murder is number one on that list. You understand me, boy?&rdquo;, Fernando hissed at him. &ldquo;Your crimes are as follows: murder of the Mendez Boys, murder of the Bunny Boy Antonio, rape and gang rape of Mary MacAlpine, rape and gang rape of my little sister Rachel, rape and gang rape of many girls out there including your female gang members, theft of numerous vehicles and assorted items, drug trafficking, weapons possessions, any crimes those weapons are tied too, robbery of various little old ladies through out the community, conspiracy to conduct such crimes and what other unsolved crimes that can be tied to you and the boys. DNA, fingerprints and video from hidden cameras are the evidence tying you and the gang to these crimes. I don&rsquo;t care how you plead, there is no way on this God&rsquo;s Earth are you and your friends are innocent of these crimes. You will be joining your two friends Ricky Stansbury and Alfonzo Munez in jail with life sentences with no parole and some black mofo named Bubbah humping your tail hole every night because you are going to be his girlfriend for the rest of your life in prison.&rdquo;<br /><br />Fernando lets him go and starts walking away. &ldquo;Tie him up and put him with the others.&rdquo;, he tells everyone, the anger still in his voice but also tiredness. He makes it past the first row of seats before passing out.<br /><br />End of: Forgive, Forget and a Final Goodbye.</span>",
