There were strange and rare exceptions to this law, they were managed to become one of those exceptions because they were born twins. As twins go, there is one who is the leader and the other who is the follower, but not always.\n\nBeing born near Lanzhou in Gansu Provence, when much of it was farm land and wilderness, Ling Ling was the older twin who tried to lead her sister through example. Mei Ling wanted the independence princess life. These two girls were inseparable though Mei Ling watched while Ling Ling did most of the work on their family farm. As lazy as Mei Ling seemed to be, she is a hard but reluctant worker. The problem is, Mei Ling is willing to take shortcuts when doing a job which Ling Ling would have to go back and fix for her. When she could, Mei Ling would prefer to go to market with their parents to sell the farm's wares and she would look at the fine dresses and fabrics being sold there. But due to the family's financial standing as ``farmers'' Mei Ling was left with the only option of window shopping and imaging herself wearing the fine clothing. Ling Ling was more of a realist of the two, know that some warrior-prince is not coming to save her from this life of drudgery; she worked hard in getting what she can for the two of them and tried to lead Mei Ling by example.\n\nThough both were virgins until their marriage, Mei Ling was the more ambitious and explorative of the two.
