Fernando invited Minerva to spend a few days in NYC but since she can't come alone without a trusted friend, he invites her friend Adrian and his sisters, with all transportation, food and lodging at a hotel (The Marriot) paid for. Taking a few days to prepare to go to NYC on Quantas flight on first class they make the 18 hour trip, arriving to NYC on a Thursday. They go to the Marriot Hotel to recover from their flight for a couple days, though on Friday, the girls went out on a shopping spree. Fernando spends the day getting things tougher for their Saturday trip to Riis Beach.\n\nRiis Beach at the southern end of Rockaway Barrier Island which separates and protects Brooklyn, Queens and Jamaica Bay from the Atlantic Ocean, it is part of the Rockaway and Far Rockaway Beaches and connects to Long Island some 20 miles North. But unlike the Rockaway Beaches, Riis Beach is closed when there are no lifeguards on the ground unless you bring your own life guard if you are going into the water. Otherwise you can sunbathe or fish in the waters of Riis Beach when it is not empty of people. It is monitored by the city's park department to make sure if you are going into the water that you have a life guard within your group. Fernando being a city pool life guard is well known to the Riis Beach staff as he goes there often when he is not working at the pool.\n\nSaturday Fernando gathers Naomi and then Minerva and Adrian early in the morning as the train and ride to Riis Beach is a long one, long enough to take a long nap on the train before switching to the bus to get on the Rockaway Island. A few minutes more they were setting up camp some 20 yards from where the water breaks against the sands. Once camp is set up they sit down under the beach umbrellas to have breakfast.
