It was just too easy to \"cough\" to get the fire going, her natural firebreath enabling her to stay warm. Stone, however, wasn't so lucky. The big stallion shivered in the coming dusk and sidled closer.\n\n\"Perhaps try again?\" the stallion offered, leaning over to lip her long braid affectionately. Dary only sighed. \"I wanted this to be a normal trek. I swear I looked at the weather!\" she nearly threw down the flint and steel Aran had packed for her and pulled her braid out of the stallion's mouth with a tired chuckle.\n\n\"You will get it. We will be fine. It is not like we will freeze to death,\" Stonehenge responded, pointedly. He shivered again and Dary turned a little and placed her hand on his shoulder. He was cold, but she knew he could easily sink into the ground to keep from freezing, but it wouldn't keep him warm by any means. He refused to let her out of his sight, however, no doubt on instructions from her mate, Aranel. Dary sighed again and glanced out through the spindly white trees. She was glad it never snowed in the Valley, but it sure got cold at night. She'd wanted to go camping and thought it would have been a perfect weekend. An extended trip with her second favorite boy. The young woman rubbed her hands together and squatted to try again.\n\nSeveral days ago, they'd been packed and ready for several day's trek. Traveling from one end of the Valley to the other was still several hours ride; even flying took her at least an hour and a half. Dary had thought it was the right time of year to do a little trekking. Everything had been going according to plan...until now. Several dark clouds had been seen forming to the north above the mountains just as they'd entered the western forest. Dary had sat easily, knowing there was a tiny abandoned cabin in the area. Even if it didn't have a stable, she'd easily let Stonehenge inside the house itself. But then, they'd not been able to find it. They'd found a good-sized clearing, but no cabin. Stone had suggested they keep searching, offering that not everyone could have remembered exact directions on where everything was. Dary had sighed and nodded and they'd continued on. Still no cabin. They'd found a large cave, but it had been quite occupied and Stonehenge had dived away to barely avoid the claws of a disgruntled bear.\n\nThey'd finally found the clearing again and Stone had suggested stopping for the night. They had a tent and everything they'd need to rough it. Dary had begun setting up camp while Stone had gone off to forage. He'd returned quickly, munching on an apple from somewhere. Dary chuckled at his happy expression.\n\nThen the fire wouldn't start.\n\nAfter trying once again and still no luck, she stood again and growled. With a grunt, she expelled a small sheet of flame. Immediately, the dried logs she'd collected lit with a whoosh and Stonehenge immediately moved closer.\n\n\"Careful! You're not fireproof, silly boy!\" Dary cautioned, grabbing a hold of the saddle still on him. He gave a snort into the fire and watched the embers swirl. Dary moved to the other side of the fire to give his big ass room and held her hands out with a smile.\n\nSuddenly, something erupted out of the woods to her left, too fast for even her eyes to catch. She was knocked to the ground by a snarling, skinny wolf. Immediately, she snarled right back and shook her arm out of the wolf's jaws, giving its ribs a kick. The stallion screamed in fury and dived through the bonfire, slamming his hooves into the wolf, sending the scrawny thing sprawling with a yelp. The wolf righted himself and the two animals faced off.\n\nStone feinted towards it and the wolf dodged. The big stallion screamed again and snapped his fangs; usually they were hidden, much like the vampires in stories. The wolf snarled back, undaunted.\n\n\"Something is driving the wolf!\" Stonehenge's actions might have been erratic, keeping himself between the wolf and Dary, but his voice was as calm as ever. \"This is not natural!\"\n\n\"Driving it?\" Dary repeated, dumbstruck. \"But what? Evil can't get into the Valley!\"\n\n\"I know what I sense, Eldarwyn,\" the stallion repeated and feint-dived at the wolf again. When the wolf twirled to try and get around the gray stallion, he twisted on his hindquarters and stamped hard with the hooves in the wolf's path, halting it. \"Darkness has come.\"\n\nDarkness...\n\nAn old dream from her first night living in the Valley, before Aranel, before Stonehenge, before everything, came back to her. It had seemed silly afterwards, but now, and when she'd first woken from it, it had seemed so real. Shadows falling across the forest, the waters turning to bloody ink. Screams echoing over the valley hills...\n\nDary was thrown back into the present when the wolf howled in pain. He'd finally tried Stonehenge's bluff and found it hadn't been a bluff. The wolf was bleeding, but still it persisted. Dary had stood by this time and looked around. \"You're in my way, Stone!\"\n\n\"Of course I am,\" he replied calmly. \"That is my intention.\"\n\nDary nearly rolled her eyes and winced when the wolf tried again. This time, the stallion hit harder. The wolf rolled and finally launched himself at the stallion. The terequine threw down his head and the poor thing impaled itself directly onto the dual horns. The sudden silence was nearly deafening. Dary blinked and finally shoved passed her horse to the dead wolf and knelt. The light in its eyes was fading, but it seemed to feel no fear from her.\n\n\"It is gone,\" the stallion spoke, quietly. Dary nodded and placed a gentle hand on the wolf's head. She whispered, \"I'm sorry,\" and the light died.\n\nDary's eyes hardened and she looked up. \"This darkness will not remain,\" she growled, the draconic part of her temperament surfacing. \"I'll find it and I'll destroy it. It. Does. Not. Belong. Here.\" Stonehenge walked over to her and put his head over her shoulder to steady her. \"You are not alone, dear one.\"\n
\nMan... :sniff: I started crying... >.>",
