"description_bbcode_parsed": "<span style='word-wrap: break-word;'>Link takes his first steps out of Kokiri Forest and into the wide world of Hyrule.&nbsp;&nbsp; What adventures and dangers await him as his quest continues and his destiny calls?</span>",
"writing": "Chapter 5: Lon Lon Ranch\n\n\t\"Just a little further and we'll be out in Hyrule Field,\" said Link as the trees around them became scarcer and scarcer. Walking up a hill, Link got his first eyeful of it and he gazed in awe. Hyrule field was vast. The land was hilly and the trees were far fewer than the forest and much sprinkled all over. Looking up at the early morning sky, Link shielded his eyes from the brightness. \"It feels so different here. The sights, the sounds, even the smells are different.\"\n\n\t\"It makes sense,\" stated Navi. \"You've only ever lived in the forest so any other kind of environment will seem unusual to you. Just wait until you see what a castle is like.\"\n\n\t\"Have you ever been to a castle before?\" asked Link.\n\n\t\"I have never left the forest either, but what I learned from the Great Deku Tree it is quite different than the forest. If you think this field is amazing you won't believe what a castle looks like.\"\n\n\t\"Then let's get going!\" cheered Link excitedly running forward.\n\n\t\"Hoo hoot!\" sang an owl as he swooped past Link and landed on a nearby tree branch. His feathers were a strong oak brown on his wings and back. On his chest and face they were a creamy white. A pair of feathers protruded over his eyes like a pair of long eyebrows giving him a knowledgeable appearance. Link looked up at the large bird and he looked back down on Link with his bright yellow eyes.\n\n\t\"I've never seen an owl that large before,\" Link told Navi.\n\n\t\"I don't particularly like owls,\" Navi said flying under Link's cap. \"More than once I've had one try and eat me. Let's just ignore it.\"\n\n\t\"Alright,\" agreed Link taking a few steps forward. \"For a moment, I thought he was trying to get my attention.\"\n\n\t\"Link...\" hooted the owl, catching Link's attention once again. \"Look up here!\" Link looked back up at the bird and waited for it to speak some more and suspend his disbelief. \"It appears that the time has finally come for you to start your adventure!\"\n\n\t\"The owl just spoke to me,\" cried Link shocked. \"And he knew my name too.\"\n\n\t\"That doesn't mean he is a friend,\" Navi pointed out. \"Hey, owl! Who are you and why are you here?\"\n\n\t\"I am an owl as you say,\" he explained. \"As for my purpose, it is merely to be a messenger, nothing more and nothing less. Now listen closely to my words. You will encounter many hardships ahead... That is your fate. Don't feel discouraged even during the toughest times! Go straight this way and you will see Hyrule Castle. You will meet a princess there...\"\n\n\t\"Thanks, but we already knew that,\" commented Link.\n\n\t\"What?!?\" cried the owl ruffling his feathers and spun his head around. \"Hoot hoot! But it was supposed to be my job to tell you this.\"\n\n\t\"Well, thank you for coming to tell me,\" Link told him. \"I appreciate the effort at the very least.\"\n\n\t\"Alright then,\" he hooted. \"I'll see you around! Next time I'll certainly be the first to deliver my message unto you. Hoot hoot hoot ho!\" Flapping his large wings, he took off into the air and soared off out of sight.\"\n\n\t\"Owls,\" sighed Navi. \"They are said to be wise, but I seriously have my doubts about that.\"\n\n\tLink chuckled and continued walking forward on a dirt path on the field. Time passed and the sun rose higher into the sky. \"This field is huge, but there isn't much around here,\" said Link as he grabbed an apple from his pack and bit into it. \"I saw a few bunnies and some birds, but not even a single person.\"\n\n\t\"Well the field here is mainly for a central hub for travel,\" Navi explained. \"From here all the other areas of Hyrule can be reached. Nobody lived out here because they prefer the safety of the walled city of Hyrule Castle Town.\"\n\n\t\"An entire town in a wall?\" asked Link. \"Even if all the Kokiri worked together I do not think we could build a wall around our village. The people in the town must be incredible builders.\"\n\n\t\"More amazing than you can probably imagine,\" explained Navi. \"Their wall is not constructed with primitive materials like wood and mud. They can build walls with stone and cement and build things stronger and larger than anything the Kokiri are capable of. What do you think of that?\"\n\n\t\"Huh?\" asked Link staring an unusual tree in the distance. \"What did you say?\"\n\n\t\"I was talking about walls,\" snapped Navi. \"What's so interesting that you lost interest in our conversation?\"\n\n\t\"That tree over there,\" explained Link. \"It doesn't look like any type of tree from the forest. I wonder what kind of fruit it has in its branches.\"\n\n\t\"We didn't come here to sightsee,\" stated Navi. \"We have to get to Hyrule Castle and I'd prefer to get there before it gets dark.\"\n\n\t\"Why is that?\" asked Link walking towards the tree.\n\n\t\"Because evil energy is much stronger at night and I've heard about a legend about Hyrule Field,\" continued Navi. \"There used to be a fierce and bloody war that spanned across this very field. For a time, these green fields were turned red with the blood of countless soldiers fighting and dying upon it. Their bloody soaked into the soil and made it soft and muddy and countless bodies sunk into the very ground we walk on. Even now I can faintly sense unrest all around us of forgotten soldiers full of sorrow and rage for never being properly put to rest. It gives me a bad feeling especially with the quest we are on. I just think it will be for the best that we do not take any unnecessary risks.\"\n\n\t\"I'll be careful,\" said Link nearing the tree. \"I'll just try some of the fruit from that tree and then we can be on our way.\" As Link neared the base of the tree, he jumped back as the tree began to move, unearthing itself and rising into the air, propelled by is twirling bladelike roots. \"What kind of tree is that?!?\"\n\n\t\"That wasn't a tree,\" cried Navi. \"That was a Peahat!\"\n\n\t\"A what?\" asked Link backing away as the monster began to move towards Link, the spinning of its propeller roots creating a powerful gust of wind.\n\n\t\"It is a creature that disguises itself as a tree and attacks anyone foolish enough to approach it.\"\n\n\t\"I really wish you would have told me that soon,\" commented Link. \"So how exactly do I fight that thing?\"\n\n\t\"It's only weakness is to attack the pit at the bottom of it,\" explained Navi.\n\n\t\"Um, I don't think so,\" trembled Link watching as its roots sliced through the ground. \"I think we should just run!\"\n\n\t\"Run?\" cried Navi clinging to Link's hair as he dashed from the Peahat as he began to fly after him. \"You fought Queen Gohma so courageously so why are you running from this thing?\"\n\n\t\"I didn't have a choice when I fought her,\" answered Link. \"And I'm feeling a lot less courageous now than I did then.\"\n\n\tDashing back onto the trail, Link could feel the wind the Peahat was blowing becoming stronger the closer it neared. Continually he almost stumbled to the ground on the hilly terrain, but managed to steady himself and keep on running.\n\n\t\"Link!\" shouted Navi as a strong gust of wind blew off Link's cap with Navi inside and sent it airborne.\n\n\t\"Navi!\" Link called back. \"Are you okay?\"\n\n\t\"Yeah,\" she answered. \"Just give me a moment to catch up to you.\" Navi began to fly towards link, but a pair of seedlings popped out of the Peahat and took flight after Navi. \"I forgot it can do this too.\"\n\n\t\"Navi!\" Link yelled seeing the two seedlings force Navi further away from him. \"Don't worry about me. Just get away and we'll meet up later at the castle.\"\n\n\t\"Guess we have no choice,\" agreed Navi. \"Remember it will be in a large, walled-in area.\" Flying away, Navi, lugging along Link's cap disappeared from sight.\n\n\n\t\"Do you have all the tanks ready?\" asked a young girl with long golden brown hair and deep blue eyes. She wore a simple white dress that was slightly worn and dirtier. Her boot weathered from mud and water. Around her neck was a bandana. \"I have the horses hitched to the wagon.\"\n\n\t\"Almost, ready, Ms. Malon,\" groaned a tall, skinny man with a curved mustache, bushy, brown eyes brows and a balding head. He wore a pair of suspenders that were very worn and covered in patches that did not blend in with the fabric they repaired. Placing the tank next to the others on the ground he fell on his butt to catch his breath. \"I just need a moment's rest than I can haul them into the wagon.\"\n\n\t\"I'll get my papa to give you a hand, Mr. Ingo,\" she told him. \"He went to fetch the eggs from the Cuckcoos in the barn. He should be about done by now.\"\n\n\t\"Mighty kind of you to that,\" Ingo told him with a smile. Malon smiled back and ran towards the barn. Once she was gone, the smile left his face and became a grumpy frown and began muttering to himself. \"Collecting eggs indeed and pigs can fly. The lazy oaf does more sleeping than all three of us work. Ms. Malon is a dear, but just knowing this ranch belongs to Talon just makes me want to tear the rest of my hair out.\" Turning red in the face, he started kicking his legs and swinging his arms at the ground like he was a child having a tantrum. \"It's not fair! I should be the one in charge of this place. Me! I want it! I want it! Some day it will be mine!\"\n\n\n\t\"Why won't this thing give up?\" panted Link still running from the Peahat. Running up the hill, Link spotted a large structure in the middle of the field surrounded by a tall wall. \"Is that that place, Navi? Is that the castle?\" Placing a hand on his head to get Navi's attention, he quickly remembered Navi was not with him. \"This must be the castle. I've already made it this far and what else could it be.\" Running towards the walled structure, Link ran through pathway and grabbed the gate, pushing it closed with all his might. The Peahat rammed against the gate, but wasn't able to break through. After a few more attempts it turned and hovered away. Finally safe, Link lied down gasped for breath.\n\n\t\"What in Hyrule is making all that racket?\" shouted Ingo as he ran to the gate and found Link. \"Oh, just some kid causing trouble. Hey there, whoever you are! Beat it! No trespassers!\"\n\n\t\"I didn't come here to cause trouble,\" apologized Link. \"Um, but what's a trespasser?\"\n\n\t\"Are you trying to be smart with me?\" snapped Ingo his face turning red. \"A trespasser is someone who goes somewhere they aren't supposed to be!\"\n\n\t\"Not allowed to be?\" thought Link. \"Then he must be a guard and that must mean this place must be the castle. I really did find it and the princess must be around here somewhere.\" Running up to Ingo, Link asked him, \"Where's the princess? It is really important that I see her.\"\n\n\t\"Princess?\" asked Ingo confused, but no less angry. \"Are you referring to Ms. Malon? What does a brat like you want with her?\"\n\n\t\"I was sent on a quest by the Great Deku Tree to see her,\" explained Link. \"It is very important if Hyrule is to be saved?\"\n\n\t\"Wait a spell,\" said Ingo scratching his head. \"So, a tree told you to see Malon to save Hyrule.\" The red faded from his face and he started laughing hysterically. \"So it's just some silly little game you're playing. That definitely explains the weird getup. You even got yourself a toy sword and shield.\"\n\n\t\"It isn't a game,\" retorted Link drawing his sword and holding it out for Ingo to see. \"See, it is a real sword.\"\n\n\t\"Wah!\" cried Ingo backing off nervously and grabbing a nearby pitchfork and pointing it at Link. \"I knew you were up to no good. Now get out of here.\"\n\n\t\"I have to see her,\" repeated Link. \"I cannot just leave after coming all the way here.\"\n\n\t\"I gave you fair warning,\" yelled Ingo as he swung the pitchfork at Link. Link ducked under his swing causing Ingo to twirl around and made himself dizzy. Taking the opportunity, Link ran past him before he could regain his balance. \"Get back here!\" Ingo ran after Link swinging the pitchfork wildly, knocking over anything with his haphazard attacks. As Link ran up to the carriage, Ingo's yelling and attacking spooked the mounted horses making them stampede away in fright. Not paying them any mind, Ingo continued after Link knocking over the milk jugs he had placed on the ground earlier and causing the contents to pour out.\n\n\t\"What is going on out here?!? Ingo!\" someone bellowed, his words stopping Ingo and sending him into a cold sweat.\n\n\t\"Mr. Talon,\" Ingo stuttered nervously, the destruction he caused earlier finally impacting him. \"I didn't see you there.\"\n\n\tTalon was a head shorter than Ingo, but quite a lot rounder. He wore a pair of blue suspenders with a red shirt. He had an equally bushy mustache and just as bald. \"Ingo, why is this place and mess and what happened to the milk?\"\n\n\t\"It wasn't my fault,\" he cried and then turned to point at Link. \"It was him! He came in here to cause trouble. I tried to stop him, but then he went crazy with that sword and threatened to take Malon.\"\n\n\t\"What?!?\" hollered Talon and he stomped over to Link. \"Is this true?\"\n\n\t\"I didn't come here to cause trouble,\" explained Link. \"I just need to see the princess. It is very important.\"\n\n\t\"Princess? My Malon?\" asked Talon his anger quickly subsiding and turning to laughter. \"Wa ha ha! Well, I suppose that makes me king.\"\n\n\t\"Oh, uh you're the king,\" said Link. \"Then you must be her mother... no wait, if you are the king then you're her father.\"\n\n\t\"See what I'm saying, Mr. Talon,\" whispered Ingo. \"This kid is a few apples short a bushel. We should get him out of here immediately.\"\n\n\t\"The boy seems harmless enough,\" retorted Talon. \"And clearly he fancies my little girl. So, how's about it? Would you like to marry Malon?\"\n\n\t\"Uh, okay, but what is that?\" asked Link.\n\n\t\"Father!\" snapped Malon storming her way over to him. \"First I find you snoring the day away in the Cuckcoo coop and now you are suddenly offering my hand in marriage to someone?\"\n\n\t\"I was just kidding,\" replied Talon defensively. \"And I was just resting my eyes. I have a lot of work to do taking the milk over to Hyrule Castle and I won't be home until late in the evening.\"\n\n\t\"Well, you got enough sleep and now it looks like we have to get the horses and refill the milk tanks,\" she stated. \"We better hurry. Hyrule Field is rather dangerous at night and you don't want to have to come back to the ranch then. Let's go now, dad, Mr. Ingo.\"\n\n\t\"But what about him?\" cried Ingo pointing at Link. \"He causes all this trouble and now we have to clean up after him?\"\n\n\t\"Was it his fault?\" asked Malon, looking Ingo in his eyes. \"Or did you let your temper get the better for you again?\"\n\n\t\"Maybe I did get a bit carried away,\" he admitted weakly.\n\n\t\"I don't mind helping,\" answered Link. \"I feel a little responsible, but did I hear right? This isn't Hyrule Castle?\"\n\n\t\"Hyrule Castle?\" asked Malon. \"No, this is Lon Lon Ranch. It is probably the further thing from the castle. It is a short ways north of here.\"\n\n\t\"So then you aren't the Princess I was searching for,\" said Link. \"But if you are going to Hyrule Castle, can I go along for the ride?\"\n\n\t\"I wouldn't mind a traveling buddy,\" agreed Talon. \"Once we're all set again we'll get going.\"\n\n\t\"You can help me round up the horses,\" instructed Malon. \"It looks like they ran back to the barn in the back. So, have you ever ridden a horse before?\"\n\n\t\"No,\" replied Link. \"I haven't even heard of a horse before either.\"\n\n\t\"You sure are strange,\" commented Malon. \"You don't seem to know a lot of things that should be fairly common knowledge and you have some peculiar clothes on. Which village are you from?\"\n\n\t\"I'm from Kokiri Village,\" answered Link. \"This is actually my first day ever leaving it and I've already seen lots of things that I've never seen before.\"\n\n\t\"Kokiri Village,\" repeated Malon astonished. \"But isn't that place just a myth?\"\n\n\t\"No, it's very real,\" stated Link.\n\n\t\"But all the people who there, aren't they supposed to have fairies?\" she questioned. \"At least that's what I heard.\"\n\n\t\"It's true,\" confirmed Link. \"Every Kokiri gets a fairy partner soon after they are born.\"\n\n\t\"Then why don't you have one?\" she pointed out.\n\n\t\"Well, I just got my fairy only yesterday and we got separated on our way here,\" admitted Link.\n\n\t\"Link!\" called Navi flying down from high up in the sky. \"I finally found you. Those seedlings were a pain to sneak away from.\"\n\n\t\"It's a fairy,\" gasped Malon. \"Then you are a fairy boy. My mother always told me stories, but I never dreamed I would meet one someday.\"\n\n\t\"Uh, did I miss something?\" asked Navi. \"Why are you at this ranch? Don't tell me you confused a place like this for Hyrule Castle.\"\n\n\t\"Of course not,\" lied Link. \"I just ran here to escape the Peahat. I even managed to get a ride to the castle so we won't have to run the rest of the way.\"\n\n\t\"Admittedly, when we got separated I thought you would get into some trouble, but looks like you managed better than I expected.\"\n\n\tArriving at the barn, Malon opened the doors. Inside it was dark, but Malon lit a lantern. In the stables were dozens of horses. The only two that weren't were the ones that got spooked earlier. \"Just be gentle and grabbed their reins,\" Malon told Link. \"Be gently and brush their mane to help calm them down. After that, pet their nose to help them familiarize your scent.\"\n\n\tLink did as instructed and stroked one of the horse's manes a few times and then patted its nose. \"Like this?\" he asked.\n\n\t\"That's right,\" answered Malon. \"The horses here are all used to people so as long as you are calm and friendly they won't be frightened of you.\"\n\n\t\"So what do you use horses for?\" questioned Link.\n\n\t\"You don't know?\" answered Malon surprised. \"People ride on horses or use them to pull carts. They are incredibly fast. With a horse you could cross Hyrule Field in practically no time at all.\"\n\n\t\"Maybe you could show me how to ride one,\" suggested Link.\n\n\t\"That wouldn't be too hard,\" she explained. \"First you would need to pick a horse to ride and then it would be a matter of practice.\"\n\n\t\"Don't forget that we have to get to the castle,\" informed Navi. \"We don't have time to get sidetracked.\"\n\n\t\"Let me take a look at the horses,\" said Link ignoring Navi. \"These two are going with your father right?\"\n\n\t\"Yeah,\" replied Malon. \"But does this mean you've changed your mind about going with my father to the castle?\"\n\n\t\"If I don't leave with him I could go later tonight or even tomorrow,\" commented Link.\n\n\t\"It'd be better to head out tomorrow morning then,\" she told him. \"The castle raises the drawbridge at night and it is very dangerous to be in Hyrule Field after the sun sets.\"\n\n\t\"Then I can leave tomorrow then,\" said Link.\n\n\t\"But the time. We shouldn't waste time here,\" complained Navi, but she sighed and quickly gave up when Link paid her no attention. \"Fine, learn to ride a horse.\"\n\n\t\"It's only for one day,\" bargained Link. \"I know we need to see the princess, but I don't know if I'll ever get another chance. Please understand.\"\n\n\t\"Fine,\" sighed Navi. \"But just for today. Evil won't wait around for you to learn to ride a horse after all.\"\n\n\t\"I know,\" chuckled Link looking at the horses in the stables one after another. \"Now which horse should I choose?\" As Link looked each at each horse then moved onto the next, he stopped when he reached one that was smaller than the rest. Its fur was a chestnut hue and its mane was a snowy white. Unlike the rest that stuck its head out for Link to pet, this one timidly backed away as far as she could. \"Don't be afraid. I won't hurt you.\" Opening the gate, Link slowly approached her.\n\n\t\"Ah!\" cried Malon. \"No, Link, not Epona!\"\n\n\t\"Epona?\" asked Link. \"Is that this horse's name?\"\n\n\tTurning back to the horse, he watched as she stood up on two legs and cried before dashing forward. Link barely avoided getting trampled by clinging onto the charging horse as she ran towards the doors to the barn.\n\n\t\"The cart is ready again,\" called Ingo outside the barn. \"Hurry and bring out the horses.\"\n\n\tEpona burst out of the barn! Crying fearfully, Ingo leapt out of the way and into a nearby hay bail. \"Causing more trouble again?!? You good for nothing brat!\"\n\n\t\"I thought you said those horses were all tame,\" cried Navi to Malon.\n\n\t\"Epona is the only exception,\" stated Malon as she got on a horse and rode after Link and Epona. \"She won't let anyone close to her except me. She won't stay still even for dad or Mr. Ingo.\"\n\n\t\"Is there anything you can do to stop her?\" asked Navi. \"If Link falls off while she's running that fast he'll be seriously hurt.\"\n\n\t\"If I can get close enough to her, then I can calm her down,\" she explained. \"But Epona is the fastest horse here. I'll have to corner her.\"\n\n\tAs Malon snapped the rains to go faster, Link struggled to hold onto Epona. \"She's so terrified,\" he thought as she ran around wildly. \"It couldn't just be because of me.\" Carefully, Link brushed against Epona's mane and talked to her. \"Everything is ok. Please slow down, nobody is going to hurt you.\" Link's words didn't ease her. Instead she raced at a fence and built up speed. Shutting his eyes, Link held on with all his might as Epona leapt over it and into the grazing field. Unable to keep from trembling, Link felt hands beginning to slip.\n\n\t\"Link doesn't look too good,\" cried Navi. \"He's going to fall!\"\n\n\t\"Don't worry,\" stated Malon tugging on the reins, slowing her horse down. Dismounting, she then entered the grazing field. \"I'm close enough now that I should be able to calm Epona down.\" Plucking a grass from the ground she held it by her mouth and used it to whistle a song. The notes sang out sweet as honey and smooth as silk. The melody itself was simple, but no less captivating with each note she played.\n\n\tNavi watched in wonderment at first, but then she watched in intrigue as Malon's horse began to approach her to listen. The wind carried the music around the ranch, causing the Cuckcoos, the cows and all the other animals able to move about freely to approach her. \"That song,\" commented Navi watching as the animals surrounded Malon with a peaceful look on their faces. \"It doesn't just attract them, but it seems to relax them as well.\" Turning to Link and Epona, the music had begun to work on her too. Her gallop slowed to a trot as she approached Malon. Link's grip finally broke and he dropped to the ground safely.\n\n\t\"Link!\" called Navi as she approached him. \"Are you okay?\"\n\n\t\"I think so,\" he groaned barely able to sit himself up.\n\n\t\"Should I assume that you've had it with horse riding?\" she asked. \"At least with that wild horse anyway.\"\n\n\t\"No way,\" retorted Link. \"I'm not done yet and I've decided. I am going to ride Epona.\" Lying back, Link closed his eyes. \"But that can wait until after I get some rest.\"",
"writing_bbcode_parsed": "<span style='word-wrap: break-word;'>Chapter 5: Lon Lon Ranch<br /><br />\t&quot;Just a little further and we&#039;ll be out in Hyrule Field,&quot; said Link as the trees around them became scarcer and scarcer.&nbsp;&nbsp;Walking up a hill, Link got his first eyeful of it and he gazed in awe.&nbsp;&nbsp;Hyrule field was vast.&nbsp;&nbsp; The land was hilly and the trees were far fewer than the forest and much sprinkled all over.&nbsp;&nbsp;Looking up at the early morning sky, Link shielded his eyes from the brightness.&nbsp;&nbsp;&quot; It feels so different here.&nbsp;&nbsp; The sights, the sounds, even the smells are different.&quot;<br /><br />\t&quot;It makes sense,&quot; stated Navi.&nbsp;&nbsp;&quot;You&#039;ve only ever lived in the forest so any other kind of environment will seem unusual to you.&nbsp;&nbsp;Just wait until you see what a castle is like.&quot;<br /><br />\t&quot;Have you ever been to a castle before?&quot; asked Link.<br /><br />\t&quot;I have never left the forest either, but what I learned from the Great Deku Tree it is quite different than the forest.&nbsp;&nbsp; If you think this field is amazing you won&#039;t believe what a castle looks like.&quot;<br /><br />\t&quot;Then let&#039;s get going!&quot; cheered Link excitedly running forward.<br /><br />\t&quot;Hoo hoot!&quot; sang an owl as he swooped past Link and landed on a nearby tree branch.&nbsp;&nbsp; His feathers were a strong oak brown on his wings and back.&nbsp;&nbsp; On his chest and face they were a creamy white.&nbsp;&nbsp;A pair of feathers protruded over his eyes like a pair of long eyebrows giving him a knowledgeable appearance.&nbsp;&nbsp;Link looked up at the large bird and he looked back down on Link with his bright yellow eyes.<br /><br />\t&quot;I&#039;ve never seen an owl that large before,&quot; Link told Navi.<br /><br />\t&quot;I don&#039;t particularly like owls,&quot; Navi said flying under Link&#039;s cap.&nbsp;&nbsp;&quot;More than once I&#039;ve had one try and eat me.&nbsp;&nbsp;Let&#039;s just ignore it.&quot;<br /><br />\t&quot;Alright,&quot; agreed Link taking a few steps forward.&nbsp;&nbsp;&quot; For a moment, I thought he was trying to get my attention.&quot;<br /><br />\t&quot;Link...&quot; hooted the owl, catching Link&#039;s attention once again.&nbsp;&nbsp;&quot;Look up here!&quot;&nbsp;&nbsp;Link looked back up at the bird and waited for it to speak some more and suspend his disbelief.&nbsp;&nbsp;&quot; It appears that the time has finally come for you to start your adventure!&quot;<br /><br />\t&quot;The owl just spoke to me,&quot; cried Link shocked.&nbsp;&nbsp;&quot; And he knew my name too.&quot;<br /><br />\t&quot;That doesn&#039;t mean he is a friend,&quot; Navi pointed out.&nbsp;&nbsp;&quot;Hey, owl!&nbsp;&nbsp;Who are you and why are you here?&quot;<br /><br />\t&quot;I am an owl as you say,&quot; he explained.&nbsp;&nbsp;&quot; As for my purpose, it is merely to be a messenger, nothing more and nothing less.&nbsp;&nbsp; Now listen closely to my words.&nbsp;&nbsp; You will encounter many hardships ahead...&nbsp;&nbsp;That is your fate.&nbsp;&nbsp;Don&#039;t feel discouraged even during the toughest times!&nbsp;&nbsp;Go straight this way and you will see Hyrule Castle.&nbsp;&nbsp; You will meet a princess there...&quot;<br /><br />\t&quot;Thanks, but we already knew that,&quot; commented Link.<br /><br />\t&quot;What?!?&quot; cried the owl ruffling his feathers and spun his head around.&nbsp;&nbsp;&quot;Hoot hoot!&nbsp;&nbsp; But it was supposed to be my job to tell you this.&quot;<br /><br />\t&quot;Well, thank you for coming to tell me,&quot; Link told him.&nbsp;&nbsp;&quot;I appreciate the effort at the very least.&quot;<br /><br />\t&quot;Alright then,&quot; he hooted.&nbsp;&nbsp;&quot;I&#039;ll see you around!&nbsp;&nbsp;Next time I&#039;ll certainly be the first to deliver my message unto you.&nbsp;&nbsp;Hoot hoot hoot ho!&quot;&nbsp;&nbsp;Flapping his large wings, he took off into the air and soared off out of sight.&quot;<br /><br />\t&quot;Owls,&quot; sighed Navi.&nbsp;&nbsp;&quot; They are said to be wise, but I seriously have my doubts about that.&quot;<br /><br />\tLink chuckled and continued walking forward on a dirt path on the field.&nbsp;&nbsp;Time passed and the sun rose higher into the sky.&nbsp;&nbsp;&quot; This field is huge, but there isn&#039;t much around here,&quot; said Link as he grabbed an apple from his pack and bit into it.&nbsp;&nbsp;&quot;I saw a few bunnies and some birds, but not even a single person.&quot;<br /><br />\t&quot;Well the field here is mainly for a central hub for travel,&quot; Navi explained.&nbsp;&nbsp;&quot; From here all the other areas of Hyrule can be reached.&nbsp;&nbsp;Nobody lived out here because they prefer the safety of the walled city of Hyrule Castle Town.&quot;<br /><br />\t&quot;An entire town in a wall?&quot; asked Link.&nbsp;&nbsp;&quot;Even if all the Kokiri worked together I do not think we could build a wall around our village.&nbsp;&nbsp; The people in the town must be incredible builders.&quot;<br /><br />\t&quot;More amazing than you can probably imagine,&quot; explained Navi.&nbsp;&nbsp;&quot;Their wall is not constructed with primitive materials like wood and mud.&nbsp;&nbsp; They can build walls with stone and cement and build things stronger and larger than anything the Kokiri are capable of.&nbsp;&nbsp; What do you think of that?&quot;<br /><br />\t&quot;Huh?&quot; asked Link staring an unusual tree in the distance.&nbsp;&nbsp;&quot; What did you say?&quot;<br /><br />\t&quot;I was talking about walls,&quot; snapped Navi.&nbsp;&nbsp;&quot;What&#039;s so interesting that you lost interest in our conversation?&quot;<br /><br />\t&quot;That tree over there,&quot; explained Link.&nbsp;&nbsp;&quot; It doesn&#039;t look like any type of tree from the forest.&nbsp;&nbsp;I wonder what kind of fruit it has in its branches.&quot;<br /><br />\t&quot;We didn&#039;t come here to sightsee,&quot; stated Navi.&nbsp;&nbsp;&quot; We have to get to Hyrule Castle and I&#039;d prefer to get there before it gets dark.&quot;<br /><br />\t&quot;Why is that?&quot; asked Link walking towards the tree.<br /><br />\t&quot;Because evil energy is much stronger at night and I&#039;ve heard about a legend about Hyrule Field,&quot; continued Navi.&nbsp;&nbsp;&quot; There used to be a fierce and bloody war that spanned across this very field.&nbsp;&nbsp; For a time, these green fields were turned red with the blood of countless soldiers fighting and dying upon it.&nbsp;&nbsp;Their bloody soaked into the soil and made it soft and muddy and countless bodies sunk into the very ground we walk on.&nbsp;&nbsp;Even now I can faintly sense unrest all around us of forgotten soldiers full of sorrow and rage for never being properly put to rest.&nbsp;&nbsp; It gives me a bad feeling especially with the quest we are on.&nbsp;&nbsp;I just think it will be for the best that we do not take any unnecessary risks.&quot;<br /><br />\t&quot;I&#039;ll be careful,&quot; said Link nearing the tree.&nbsp;&nbsp;&quot;I&#039;ll just try some of the fruit from that tree and then we can be on our way.&quot;&nbsp;&nbsp; As Link neared the base of the tree, he jumped back as the tree began to move, unearthing itself and rising into the air, propelled by is twirling bladelike roots.&nbsp;&nbsp;&quot; What kind of tree is that?!?&quot;<br /><br />\t&quot;That wasn&#039;t a tree,&quot; cried Navi.&nbsp;&nbsp;&quot; That was a Peahat!&quot;<br /><br />\t&quot;A what?&quot; asked Link backing away as the monster began to move towards Link, the spinning of its propeller roots creating a powerful gust of wind.<br /><br />\t&quot;It is a creature that disguises itself as a tree and attacks anyone foolish enough to approach it.&quot;<br /><br />\t&quot;I really wish you would have told me that soon,&quot; commented Link.&nbsp;&nbsp;&quot; So how exactly do I fight that thing?&quot;<br /><br />\t&quot;It&#039;s only weakness is to attack the pit at the bottom of it,&quot; explained Navi.<br /><br />\t&quot;Um, I don&#039;t think so,&quot; trembled Link watching as its roots sliced through the ground.&nbsp;&nbsp;&quot;I think we should just run!&quot;<br /><br />\t&quot;Run?&quot; cried Navi clinging to Link&#039;s hair as he dashed from the Peahat as he began to fly after him.&nbsp;&nbsp;&quot; You fought Queen Gohma so courageously so why are you running from this thing?&quot;<br /><br />\t&quot;I didn&#039;t have a choice when I fought her,&quot; answered Link.&nbsp;&nbsp;&quot; And I&#039;m feeling a lot less courageous now than I did then.&quot;<br /><br />\tDashing back onto the trail, Link could feel the wind the Peahat was blowing becoming stronger the closer it neared.&nbsp;&nbsp;Continually he almost stumbled to the ground on the hilly terrain, but managed to steady himself and keep on running.<br /><br />\t&quot;Link!&quot; shouted Navi as a strong gust of wind blew off Link&#039;s cap with Navi inside and sent it airborne.<br /><br />\t&quot;Navi!&quot; Link called back.&nbsp;&nbsp;&quot; Are you okay?&quot;<br /><br />\t&quot;Yeah,&quot; she answered.&nbsp;&nbsp;&quot;Just give me a moment to catch up to you.&quot;&nbsp;&nbsp;Navi began to fly towards link, but a pair of seedlings popped out of the Peahat and took flight after Navi.&nbsp;&nbsp;&quot;I forgot it can do this too.&quot;<br /><br />\t&quot;Navi!&quot; Link yelled seeing the two seedlings force Navi further away from him.&nbsp;&nbsp;&quot;Don&#039;t worry about me.&nbsp;&nbsp;Just get away and we&#039;ll meet up later at the castle.&quot;<br /><br />\t&quot;Guess we have no choice,&quot; agreed Navi.&nbsp;&nbsp;&quot;Remember it will be in a large, walled-in area.&quot;&nbsp;&nbsp;Flying away, Navi, lugging along Link&#039;s cap disappeared from sight.<br /><br /><br />\t&quot;Do you have all the tanks ready?&quot; asked a young girl with long golden brown hair and deep blue eyes.&nbsp;&nbsp; She wore a simple white dress that was slightly worn and dirtier.&nbsp;&nbsp; Her boot weathered from mud and water.&nbsp;&nbsp;Around her neck was a bandana.&nbsp;&nbsp;&quot;I have the horses hitched to the wagon.&quot;<br /><br />\t&quot;Almost, ready, Ms. Malon,&quot; groaned a tall, skinny man with a curved mustache, bushy, brown eyes brows and a balding head.&nbsp;&nbsp; He wore a pair of suspenders that were very worn and covered in patches that did not blend in with the fabric they repaired.&nbsp;&nbsp;Placing the tank next to the others on the ground he fell on his butt to catch his breath.&nbsp;&nbsp;&quot;I just need a moment&#039;s rest than I can haul them into the wagon.&quot;<br /><br />\t&quot;I&#039;ll get my papa to give you a hand, Mr. Ingo,&quot; she told him.&nbsp;&nbsp;&quot; He went to fetch the eggs from the Cuckcoos in the barn.&nbsp;&nbsp; He should be about done by now.&quot;<br /><br />\t&quot;Mighty kind of you to that,&quot; Ingo told him with a smile.&nbsp;&nbsp;Malon smiled back and ran towards the barn.&nbsp;&nbsp;Once she was gone, the smile left his face and became a grumpy frown and began muttering to himself.&nbsp;&nbsp;&quot;Collecting eggs indeed and pigs can fly.&nbsp;&nbsp; The lazy oaf does more sleeping than all three of us work.&nbsp;&nbsp;Ms. Malon is a dear, but just knowing this ranch belongs to Talon just makes me want to tear the rest of my hair out.&quot;&nbsp;&nbsp;Turning red in the face, he started kicking his legs and swinging his arms at the ground like he was a child having a tantrum.&nbsp;&nbsp;&quot;It&#039;s not fair!&nbsp;&nbsp;I should be the one in charge of this place.&nbsp;&nbsp;Me!&nbsp;&nbsp;I want it!&nbsp;&nbsp;I want it!&nbsp;&nbsp; Some day it will be mine!&quot;<br /><br /><br />\t&quot;Why won&#039;t this thing give up?&quot; panted Link still running from the Peahat.&nbsp;&nbsp;Running up the hill, Link spotted a large structure in the middle of the field surrounded by a tall wall.&nbsp;&nbsp;&quot; Is that that place, Navi?&nbsp;&nbsp; Is that the castle?&quot;&nbsp;&nbsp;Placing a hand on his head to get Navi&#039;s attention, he quickly remembered Navi was not with him.&nbsp;&nbsp;&quot; This must be the castle.&nbsp;&nbsp;I&#039;ve already made it this far and what else could it be.&quot;&nbsp;&nbsp;Running towards the walled structure, Link ran through pathway and grabbed the gate, pushing it closed with all his might.&nbsp;&nbsp; The Peahat rammed against the gate, but wasn&#039;t able to break through.&nbsp;&nbsp; After a few more attempts it turned and hovered away.&nbsp;&nbsp; Finally safe, Link lied down gasped for breath.<br /><br />\t&quot;What in Hyrule is making all that racket?&quot; shouted Ingo as he ran to the gate and found Link.&nbsp;&nbsp;&quot;Oh, just some kid causing trouble.&nbsp;&nbsp;Hey there, whoever you are!&nbsp;&nbsp;Beat it!&nbsp;&nbsp; No trespassers!&quot;<br /><br />\t&quot;I didn&#039;t come here to cause trouble,&quot; apologized Link.&nbsp;&nbsp;&quot;Um, but what&#039;s a trespasser?&quot;<br /><br />\t&quot;Are you trying to be smart with me?&quot; snapped Ingo his face turning red.&nbsp;&nbsp;&quot;A trespasser is someone who goes somewhere they aren&#039;t supposed to be!&quot;<br /><br />\t&quot;Not allowed to be?&quot; thought Link.&nbsp;&nbsp;&quot; Then he must be a guard and that must mean this place must be the castle.&nbsp;&nbsp;I really did find it and the princess must be around here somewhere.&quot;&nbsp;&nbsp;Running up to Ingo, Link asked him, &quot;Where&#039;s the princess?&nbsp;&nbsp; It is really important that I see her.&quot;<br /><br />\t&quot;Princess?&quot; asked Ingo confused, but no less angry.&nbsp;&nbsp;&quot; Are you referring to Ms. Malon?&nbsp;&nbsp; What does a brat like you want with her?&quot;<br /><br />\t&quot;I was sent on a quest by the Great Deku Tree to see her,&quot; explained Link.&nbsp;&nbsp;&quot; It is very important if Hyrule is to be saved?&quot;<br /><br />\t&quot;Wait a spell,&quot; said Ingo scratching his head.&nbsp;&nbsp;&quot; So, a tree told you to see Malon to save Hyrule.&quot;&nbsp;&nbsp; The red faded from his face and he started laughing hysterically.&nbsp;&nbsp;&quot; So it&#039;s just some silly little game you&#039;re playing.&nbsp;&nbsp; That definitely explains the weird getup.&nbsp;&nbsp; You even got yourself a toy sword and shield.&quot;<br /><br />\t&quot;It isn&#039;t a game,&quot; retorted Link drawing his sword and holding it out for Ingo to see.&nbsp;&nbsp;&quot;See, it is a real sword.&quot;<br /><br />\t&quot;Wah!&quot; cried Ingo backing off nervously and grabbing a nearby pitchfork and pointing it at Link.&nbsp;&nbsp;&quot;I knew you were up to no good.&nbsp;&nbsp; Now get out of here.&quot;<br /><br />\t&quot;I have to see her,&quot; repeated Link.&nbsp;&nbsp;&quot;I cannot just leave after coming all the way here.&quot;<br /><br />\t&quot;I gave you fair warning,&quot; yelled Ingo as he swung the pitchfork at Link.&nbsp;&nbsp;Link ducked under his swing causing Ingo to twirl around and made himself dizzy.&nbsp;&nbsp;Taking the opportunity, Link ran past him before he could regain his balance.&nbsp;&nbsp;&quot;Get back here!&quot;&nbsp;&nbsp;Ingo ran after Link swinging the pitchfork wildly, knocking over anything with his haphazard attacks.&nbsp;&nbsp; As Link ran up to the carriage, Ingo&#039;s yelling and attacking spooked the mounted horses making them stampede away in fright.&nbsp;&nbsp; Not paying them any mind, Ingo continued after Link knocking over the milk jugs he had placed on the ground earlier and causing the contents to pour out.<br /><br />\t&quot;What is going on out here?!?&nbsp;&nbsp;Ingo!&quot; someone bellowed, his words stopping Ingo and sending him into a cold sweat.<br /><br />\t&quot;Mr. Talon,&quot; Ingo stuttered nervously, the destruction he caused earlier finally impacting him.&nbsp;&nbsp;&quot;I didn&#039;t see you there.&quot;<br /><br />\tTalon was a head shorter than Ingo, but quite a lot rounder.&nbsp;&nbsp; He wore a pair of blue suspenders with a red shirt.&nbsp;&nbsp; He had an equally bushy mustache and just as bald.&nbsp;&nbsp;&quot;Ingo, why is this place and mess and what happened to the milk?&quot;<br /><br />\t&quot;It wasn&#039;t my fault,&quot; he cried and then turned to point at Link.&nbsp;&nbsp;&quot; It was him!&nbsp;&nbsp; He came in here to cause trouble.&nbsp;&nbsp;I tried to stop him, but then he went crazy with that sword and threatened to take Malon.&quot;<br /><br />\t&quot;What?!?&quot; hollered Talon and he stomped over to Link.&nbsp;&nbsp;&quot; Is this true?&quot;<br /><br />\t&quot;I didn&#039;t come here to cause trouble,&quot; explained Link.&nbsp;&nbsp;&quot;I just need to see the princess.&nbsp;&nbsp; It is very important.&quot;<br /><br />\t&quot;Princess?&nbsp;&nbsp;My Malon?&quot; asked Talon his anger quickly subsiding and turning to laughter.&nbsp;&nbsp;&quot;Wa ha ha!&nbsp;&nbsp;Well, I suppose that makes me king.&quot;<br /><br />\t&quot;Oh, uh you&#039;re the king,&quot; said Link.&nbsp;&nbsp;&quot; Then you must be her mother... no wait, if you are the king then you&#039;re her father.&quot;<br /><br />\t&quot;See what I&#039;m saying, Mr. Talon,&quot; whispered Ingo.&nbsp;&nbsp;&quot; This kid is a few apples short a bushel.&nbsp;&nbsp; We should get him out of here immediately.&quot;<br /><br />\t&quot;The boy seems harmless enough,&quot; retorted Talon.&nbsp;&nbsp;&quot; And clearly he fancies my little girl.&nbsp;&nbsp; So, how&#039;s about it?&nbsp;&nbsp;Would you like to marry Malon?&quot;<br /><br />\t&quot;Uh, okay, but what is that?&quot; asked Link.<br /><br />\t&quot;Father!&quot; snapped Malon storming her way over to him.&nbsp;&nbsp;&quot;First I find you snoring the day away in the Cuckcoo coop and now you are suddenly offering my hand in marriage to someone?&quot;<br /><br />\t&quot;I was just kidding,&quot; replied Talon defensively.&nbsp;&nbsp;&quot; And I was just resting my eyes.&nbsp;&nbsp;I have a lot of work to do taking the milk over to Hyrule Castle and I won&#039;t be home until late in the evening.&quot;<br /><br />\t&quot;Well, you got enough sleep and now it looks like we have to get the horses and refill the milk tanks,&quot; she stated.&nbsp;&nbsp;&quot; We better hurry.&nbsp;&nbsp;Hyrule Field is rather dangerous at night and you don&#039;t want to have to come back to the ranch then.&nbsp;&nbsp;Let&#039;s go now, dad, Mr. Ingo.&quot;<br /><br />\t&quot;But what about him?&quot; cried Ingo pointing at Link.&nbsp;&nbsp;&quot; He causes all this trouble and now we have to clean up after him?&quot;<br /><br />\t&quot;Was it his fault?&quot; asked Malon, looking Ingo in his eyes.&nbsp;&nbsp;&quot;Or did you let your temper get the better for you again?&quot;<br /><br />\t&quot;Maybe I did get a bit carried away,&quot; he admitted weakly.<br /><br />\t&quot;I don&#039;t mind helping,&quot; answered Link.&nbsp;&nbsp;&quot;I feel a little responsible, but did I hear right?&nbsp;&nbsp; This isn&#039;t Hyrule Castle?&quot;<br /><br />\t&quot;Hyrule Castle?&quot; asked Malon.&nbsp;&nbsp;&quot; No, this is Lon Lon Ranch.&nbsp;&nbsp; It is probably the further thing from the castle.&nbsp;&nbsp; It is a short ways north of here.&quot;<br /><br />\t&quot;So then you aren&#039;t the Princess I was searching for,&quot; said Link.&nbsp;&nbsp;&quot; But if you are going to Hyrule Castle, can I go along for the ride?&quot;<br /><br />\t&quot;I wouldn&#039;t mind a traveling buddy,&quot; agreed Talon.&nbsp;&nbsp;&quot;Once we&#039;re all set again we&#039;ll get going.&quot;<br /><br />\t&quot;You can help me round up the horses,&quot; instructed Malon.&nbsp;&nbsp;&quot; It looks like they ran back to the barn in the back.&nbsp;&nbsp; So, have you ever ridden a horse before?&quot;<br /><br />\t&quot;No,&quot; replied Link.&nbsp;&nbsp;&quot;I haven&#039;t even heard of a horse before either.&quot;<br /><br />\t&quot;You sure are strange,&quot; commented Malon.&nbsp;&nbsp;&quot; You don&#039;t seem to know a lot of things that should be fairly common knowledge and you have some peculiar clothes on.&nbsp;&nbsp;Which village are you from?&quot;<br /><br />\t&quot;I&#039;m from Kokiri Village,&quot; answered Link.&nbsp;&nbsp;&quot; This is actually my first day ever leaving it and I&#039;ve already seen lots of things that I&#039;ve never seen before.&quot;<br /><br />\t&quot;Kokiri Village,&quot; repeated Malon astonished.&nbsp;&nbsp;&quot; But isn&#039;t that place just a myth?&quot;<br /><br />\t&quot;No, it&#039;s very real,&quot; stated Link.<br /><br />\t&quot;But all the people who there, aren&#039;t they supposed to have fairies?&quot; she questioned.&nbsp;&nbsp;&quot; At least that&#039;s what I heard.&quot;<br /><br />\t&quot;It&#039;s true,&quot; confirmed Link.&nbsp;&nbsp;&quot;Every Kokiri gets a fairy partner soon after they are born.&quot;<br /><br />\t&quot;Then why don&#039;t you have one?&quot; she pointed out.<br /><br />\t&quot;Well, I just got my fairy only yesterday and we got separated on our way here,&quot; admitted Link.<br /><br />\t&quot;Link!&quot; called Navi flying down from high up in the sky.&nbsp;&nbsp;&quot;I finally found you.&nbsp;&nbsp; Those seedlings were a pain to sneak away from.&quot;<br /><br />\t&quot;It&#039;s a fairy,&quot; gasped Malon.&nbsp;&nbsp;&quot; Then you are a fairy boy.&nbsp;&nbsp; My mother always told me stories, but I never dreamed I would meet one someday.&quot;<br /><br />\t&quot;Uh, did I miss something?&quot; asked Navi.&nbsp;&nbsp;&quot; Why are you at this ranch?&nbsp;&nbsp;Don&#039;t tell me you confused a place like this for Hyrule Castle.&quot;<br /><br />\t&quot;Of course not,&quot; lied Link.&nbsp;&nbsp;&quot;I just ran here to escape the Peahat.&nbsp;&nbsp;I even managed to get a ride to the castle so we won&#039;t have to run the rest of the way.&quot;<br /><br />\t&quot;Admittedly, when we got separated I thought you would get into some trouble, but looks like you managed better than I expected.&quot;<br /><br />\tArriving at the barn, Malon opened the doors.&nbsp;&nbsp;Inside it was dark, but Malon lit a lantern.&nbsp;&nbsp; In the stables were dozens of horses.&nbsp;&nbsp; The only two that weren&#039;t were the ones that got spooked earlier.&nbsp;&nbsp;&quot;Just be gentle and grabbed their reins,&quot; Malon told Link.&nbsp;&nbsp;&quot;Be gently and brush their mane to help calm them down.&nbsp;&nbsp; After that, pet their nose to help them familiarize your scent.&quot;<br /><br />\tLink did as instructed and stroked one of the horse&#039;s manes a few times and then patted its nose.&nbsp;&nbsp;&quot;Like this?&quot; he asked.<br /><br />\t&quot;That&#039;s right,&quot; answered Malon.&nbsp;&nbsp;&quot; The horses here are all used to people so as long as you are calm and friendly they won&#039;t be frightened of you.&quot;<br /><br />\t&quot;So what do you use horses for?&quot; questioned Link.<br /><br />\t&quot;You don&#039;t know?&quot; answered Malon surprised.&nbsp;&nbsp;&quot;People ride on horses or use them to pull carts.&nbsp;&nbsp; They are incredibly fast.&nbsp;&nbsp; With a horse you could cross Hyrule Field in practically no time at all.&quot;<br /><br />\t&quot;Maybe you could show me how to ride one,&quot; suggested Link.<br /><br />\t&quot;That wouldn&#039;t be too hard,&quot; she explained.&nbsp;&nbsp;&quot;First you would need to pick a horse to ride and then it would be a matter of practice.&quot;<br /><br />\t&quot;Don&#039;t forget that we have to get to the castle,&quot; informed Navi.&nbsp;&nbsp;&quot; We don&#039;t have time to get sidetracked.&quot;<br /><br />\t&quot;Let me take a look at the horses,&quot; said Link ignoring Navi.&nbsp;&nbsp;&quot; These two are going with your father right?&quot;<br /><br />\t&quot;Yeah,&quot; replied Malon.&nbsp;&nbsp;&quot; But does this mean you&#039;ve changed your mind about going with my father to the castle?&quot;<br /><br />\t&quot;If I don&#039;t leave with him I could go later tonight or even tomorrow,&quot; commented Link.<br /><br />\t&quot;It&#039;d be better to head out tomorrow morning then,&quot; she told him.&nbsp;&nbsp;&quot; The castle raises the drawbridge at night and it is very dangerous to be in Hyrule Field after the sun sets.&quot;<br /><br />\t&quot;Then I can leave tomorrow then,&quot; said Link.<br /><br />\t&quot;But the time.&nbsp;&nbsp; We shouldn&#039;t waste time here,&quot; complained Navi, but she sighed and quickly gave up when Link paid her no attention.&nbsp;&nbsp;&quot;Fine, learn to ride a horse.&quot;<br /><br />\t&quot;It&#039;s only for one day,&quot; bargained Link.&nbsp;&nbsp;&quot;I know we need to see the princess, but I don&#039;t know if I&#039;ll ever get another chance.&nbsp;&nbsp; Please understand.&quot;<br /><br />\t&quot;Fine,&quot; sighed Navi.&nbsp;&nbsp;&quot; But just for today.&nbsp;&nbsp;Evil won&#039;t wait around for you to learn to ride a horse after all.&quot;<br /><br />\t&quot;I know,&quot; chuckled Link looking at the horses in the stables one after another.&nbsp;&nbsp;&quot; Now which horse should I choose?&quot;&nbsp;&nbsp; As Link looked each at each horse then moved onto the next, he stopped when he reached one that was smaller than the rest.&nbsp;&nbsp; Its fur was a chestnut hue and its mane was a snowy white.&nbsp;&nbsp;Unlike the rest that stuck its head out for Link to pet, this one timidly backed away as far as she could.&nbsp;&nbsp;&quot;Don&#039;t be afraid.&nbsp;&nbsp;I won&#039;t hurt you.&quot;&nbsp;&nbsp;Opening the gate, Link slowly approached her.<br /><br />\t&quot;Ah!&quot; cried Malon.&nbsp;&nbsp;&quot; No, Link, not Epona!&quot;<br /><br />\t&quot;Epona?&quot; asked Link.&nbsp;&nbsp;&quot; Is that this horse&#039;s name?&quot;<br /><br />\tTurning back to the horse, he watched as she stood up on two legs and cried before dashing forward.&nbsp;&nbsp;Link barely avoided getting trampled by clinging onto the charging horse as she ran towards the doors to the barn.<br /><br />\t&quot;The cart is ready again,&quot; called Ingo outside the barn.&nbsp;&nbsp;&quot;Hurry and bring out the horses.&quot;<br /><br />\tEpona burst out of the barn!&nbsp;&nbsp;Crying fearfully, Ingo leapt out of the way and into a nearby hay bail.&nbsp;&nbsp;&quot;Causing more trouble again?!?&nbsp;&nbsp; You good for nothing brat!&quot;<br /><br />\t&quot;I thought you said those horses were all tame,&quot; cried Navi to Malon.<br /><br />\t&quot;Epona is the only exception,&quot; stated Malon as she got on a horse and rode after Link and Epona.&nbsp;&nbsp;&quot; She won&#039;t let anyone close to her except me.&nbsp;&nbsp; She won&#039;t stay still even for dad or Mr. Ingo.&quot;<br /><br />\t&quot;Is there anything you can do to stop her?&quot; asked Navi.&nbsp;&nbsp;&quot; If Link falls off while she&#039;s running that fast he&#039;ll be seriously hurt.&quot;<br /><br />\t&quot;If I can get close enough to her, then I can calm her down,&quot; she explained.&nbsp;&nbsp;&quot; But Epona is the fastest horse here.&nbsp;&nbsp;I&#039;ll have to corner her.&quot;<br /><br />\tAs Malon snapped the rains to go faster, Link struggled to hold onto Epona.&nbsp;&nbsp;&quot;She&#039;s so terrified,&quot; he thought as she ran around wildly.&nbsp;&nbsp;&quot; It couldn&#039;t just be because of me.&quot;&nbsp;&nbsp;Carefully, Link brushed against Epona&#039;s mane and talked to her.&nbsp;&nbsp;&quot;Everything is ok.&nbsp;&nbsp; Please slow down, nobody is going to hurt you.&quot;&nbsp;&nbsp;Link&#039;s words didn&#039;t ease her.&nbsp;&nbsp;Instead she raced at a fence and built up speed.&nbsp;&nbsp;Shutting his eyes, Link held on with all his might as Epona leapt over it and into the grazing field.&nbsp;&nbsp;Unable to keep from trembling, Link felt hands beginning to slip.<br /><br />\t&quot;Link doesn&#039;t look too good,&quot; cried Navi.&nbsp;&nbsp;&quot;He&#039;s going to fall!&quot;<br /><br />\t&quot;Don&#039;t worry,&quot; stated Malon tugging on the reins, slowing her horse down.&nbsp;&nbsp;Dismounting, she then entered the grazing field.&nbsp;&nbsp;&quot;I&#039;m close enough now that I should be able to calm Epona down.&quot;&nbsp;&nbsp;Plucking a grass from the ground she held it by her mouth and used it to whistle a song.&nbsp;&nbsp; The notes sang out sweet as honey and smooth as silk.&nbsp;&nbsp; The melody itself was simple, but no less captivating with each note she played.<br /><br />\tNavi watched in wonderment at first, but then she watched in intrigue as Malon&#039;s horse began to approach her to listen.&nbsp;&nbsp; The wind carried the music around the ranch, causing the Cuckcoos, the cows and all the other animals able to move about freely to approach her.&nbsp;&nbsp;&quot; That song,&quot; commented Navi watching as the animals surrounded Malon with a peaceful look on their faces.&nbsp;&nbsp;&quot; It doesn&#039;t just attract them, but it seems to relax them as well.&quot;&nbsp;&nbsp;Turning to Link and Epona, the music had begun to work on her too.&nbsp;&nbsp; Her gallop slowed to a trot as she approached Malon.&nbsp;&nbsp;Link&#039;s grip finally broke and he dropped to the ground safely.<br /><br />\t&quot;Link!&quot; called Navi as she approached him.&nbsp;&nbsp;&quot; Are you okay?&quot;<br /><br />\t&quot;I think so,&quot; he groaned barely able to sit himself up.<br /><br />\t&quot;Should I assume that you&#039;ve had it with horse riding?&quot; she asked.&nbsp;&nbsp;&quot; At least with that wild horse anyway.&quot;<br /><br />\t&quot;No way,&quot; retorted Link.&nbsp;&nbsp;&quot;I&#039;m not done yet and I&#039;ve decided.&nbsp;&nbsp;I am going to ride Epona.&quot;&nbsp;&nbsp;Lying back, Link closed his eyes.&nbsp;&nbsp;&quot; But that can wait until after I get some rest.&quot;</span>",
