The individual turtles seem to keep at least some semblance of their characters and origins, but with Splinter, they can’t even seem to settle on whether he was originally a rat or a human! Though I think the biggest sin is when they make him out to be a comedic buffoon or loafer rather than a wise, noble, and skilled mentor. Talk about character derailment.\n\nTo me, the 1987 cartoon version of Master Splinter is the best! Some characters, you just feel like would help you be a better person if you had them in your life-- characters who help you grow in body and/or mind, and characters who bear the burden of knowing what path is the right one while passing down to you the tools necessary to know how to find it yourself.\n\nBut that is the burden of a good teacher who has fulfilled his duty: he is no longer needed by those he cares for and nurtured. And if he’d allow me to clutch his furred murine frame, bury my nose in his slick damp fur, feel his claws digging into my back as his muzzle is pressed against my shoulder, and relish in the sopping, silky squeeze of his rodent sphincter clamping around my rod every time his shaggy legs tighten their grasp around my waist, he may have just found a new recruit.
Good thing Splinter would never allow one of his student to be so weak-willed! Training begins in the evening.
