"description": "My favorite video game lizard and dragon respectively! And two of the PSX’s multiple platforming rockstars who vied to become its mascot. And boy do I love them and their games. Seriously, their games on the PSX really do mean a lot to me. Gex was one of my BIGGEST crushes growing up, and Spyro’s colorful and lighthearted atmosphere, worlds, and characters-- though I didn’t play it for the first time until after the PSX’s lifetime-- reminded me of what I feel was the halcyon days of gaming, when the technology was advancing in leaps and bounds, people passionate about the medium were still largely in charge, and excitement about the industry’s future was at its peak; though being a cute and lovable dragon helped too! Needless to say, this picture was of great importance to me because the characters involved are so important to me.\n\nAfter playing all of their games on the PSX, I noticed a trend among platformers of that era which provided the inspiration for this pic: they all include a beach vacation scene or bit at some point. If they all enjoy relaxing under an umbrella on the shores of some sunny coast so much, that sounds like a potential group activity for them! Croc had a beach scene too, but I think Gex wants Spyro all to himself for now... Besides both being cocky platforming reptiles who enjoy a day at the beach, something else they have in common is the variety of worlds they explore through portals. Therefore, would it really be that unusual if they ran into each other at some point? Not that I ever needed an actual REASON to put these two together. XD\n\nGex is all about indulgences and pleasure-seeking, not to mention lusting after targets of his attraction. A trip to someplace quieter where Spyro’s selfless efforts aren’t constantly in need could be Gex’s reward for the spunky dragon, seeing as how Gex has neither eggs nor orbs to offer Spyro in gratitude. But should Spyro take Gex up on his offer, he may find himself offered a pair of egg-shaped orbs-- all wrapped up in a nice, bulging sack no less!\n\nThere’s also the possibility they actually ARE video game stars, ones with so much in common that they have an immediate interest in each other as soon as they hit the big time. Gex had two games released by the time Spyro’s first one came out, and they were all well-received by players. In Enter the Gecko, Gex’s second game, he had become quite the big shot with a personality to match. Spyro is a bit more humble, but that means he’s all the more excited when he finally meets another courageous reptile serving as living proof that the role of a hero isn’t exclusive to knights in shining armor (or gibberish-babbling plumbers)!\n\nBut everyone has to start somewhere. Even back then, the world of video gaming was growing faster than anyone could really keep up, so having someone who’s been around the block to guide one along would be a major help! And Gex is MORE than happy to take this up-and-coming rookie under his wing (despite being the one without wings) and share some of his own experience and connections…\n\nToo bad Gex only brought ONE CHAIR with him.\n\n“You really think I’d wanna share a seat with [i]you[/i]?” says Spyro with an incredulous smirk.\n\n“Why not? I don’t mind!” says Gex, “Not like there’s anyone around to call you weird; we’re miles away from civilization! No prying eyes, no judgment… It’s why I bought this empty rock in middle of the ocean to begin with!” Spyro is visibly confused by Gex’s offer, if not conflicted. On one paw, Gex is an accomplished adventurer and video game star whose methods have landed him a fair bit of success! As a hero whose star is only beginning to rise himself, it may be a good idea for Spyro to follow Gex’s lead. But on the other paw… “Come on, my lips are sealed! It’s in the vault!”\n\n“Eeehhh… all right, fiiine,” says Spyro, hopping into the chair and rolling himself into the space next to Gex. Shuffling into the cramped space between the gecko and the armrest is an awkward affair, enough so that Spyro doesn’t doesn’t even notice Gex’s arm outstretched to make room and coming back around to caress Spyro side-to-side. As if they aren’t snug enough, the diminutive dragon is curled inward for a brief squeeze. I don’t NEED it!”\n\n“Yeeaaah, right, like you can TOTALLY drop TV from your life!” says Spyro with an impish smile. “That’s why you lie on a dirty couch all day, watching reruns, surrounded by junk food and take-out trash, stewing in your own juices, shirt covered in weeks-old stains, right?” Gex shrugs.\n\n“Just livin’ the dream! Besides, beats lying around in the dirt with a bunch of other big, sweaty dragon dudes!” says Gex with an ever-expanding grin.\n\n“Just hangin’ with the bros!” says Spyro just as assuredly.\n\n“Now THAT...” says Gex as he readjusts his position and his arm draped around Spyro into one more comfortable and more securely-connected to his chair-mate. “… I can get behind!”\n\n“Yoooou said it!” says Spyro, squirming deeper into his nook next to Gex to do the same.\n\nSuddenly, lounging in Gex’s embrace isn’t such a foreign feeling to Spyro! Even back then, the world of video gaming was growing faster than anyone could really keep up, so having someone who’s been around the block to guide one along would be a major help!
