I’m actually redesigning Valeford around them. He captured the essence of that bird that has evaded me all the years I’ve been experimenting with him! When I set eyes on his first doodle of Valeford, it was like stumbling upon the lost city of gold! “THAT’S the look for him I been searching for all this time!” I said, and that’s what kicked off my efforts to capture it! Stoaty just has a gift for apprehending a toony character’s essence, refining it into a paint, and plastering it all over their soul to give them a look and life that tells you everything about them from the first glance! Truly a master of the style. =)
And let me tell you something about that bird that is going to be an official part of his upcoming updated ref sheet: he STINKS. I asked on Twitter at one point what people thought he smelled like, and my favorite was “Fish stored in an armpit,” which I can say is very accurate. He bathes about as often as Baxter, every inch of him is soaked in old sweat, he eats almost nothing else besides fish, and basically every secretion of his smells like his diet in some way or another.
Some (most) people would be turned off by a dirty shorebird whose aroma is akin to a locker room for salmon, and that works when that shorebird is an antisocial grump! But there’s always gonna be that crowd who’s driven WILD by his stench. And the two who have managed to figure out what times he inhabits that bar for local dockworkers every evening just so happen to be a pair of mustelids! Though they may rather refer to themselves as MUSKtelids considering their tendency to put their sniffers to work as soon as they find a bodily bouquet that sends their loins into overdrive!
Stoaty, for one, is drawn by the scent under Valeford’s tailfeathers-- and his nose is on-point! That boy loves sniffing butts so much, you’d think he’s a dog! But he’s even better equipped for huffing hindquarters, because his short stature and slinky body is perfect for skulking around and getting some good, hard whiffs of a slick, sweaty, pungent pucker the instant a raised-tail presents itself! And Valeford’s got that dense, fluffy crissum to trap every juicy particle of rankness that seeps from or around his avian anus, which is loosened and made even more abundant in surface area with how thoroughly-thrusted-through it is! The osprey’s swampy asshole carries a myriad of stinks, from the dense, nose-furling fetor of the collective grime his wrinkled sphincter basted in, to the tangy cock sweat from numerous other species of males who've used that hawk hole to unload themselves in, to whatever decadent scents their sperm carries, and the funk of of whatever manner of seafood has passed through the bird… if that’s any manner of material you think would only sully the air around him, Stoaty’s is happy to offer his nostrils as filters!
Speaking of nose-furling, let’s talk about a ferret whose nose can be measured as part of his body mass! Duster is all about that huge, dirty snoot! And when I say it’s dirty, I mean outside AND inside. He huffs so much nastiness, you can SEE it clumped up in his broad nostrils! Valeford sure does, and it makes him go “Well hello there!” So when he goes in for an open-beak kiss, it ain’t Duster’s lips he’s plunging his scummy tongue into! With his beak clamped over Duster’s oversized sniffer, Valeford’s grimy, seafood-encrusted tongue is slathering all around the interior of the toony ferret’s gaping nasal passages, scooping up whatever mucus-coated fishy residue’s been snorted in there! Remnants of tuna cans, muzzle filth from alley cats feasting from fish market dumpsters, trappings under unwashed foreskins and sheaths… slurped up by the osprey’s tongue and into his beak they go! But does he just take from Duster’s gaping nasal caverns? Not at all! Because Valeford’s cock is gonna be rock hard by the time he’s feasted from some ferret nostrils, and the seahawk’s gonna use it to leave behind more than just his own rancid, low-tide-in-August shorebird breath! Once his foreskin is pulled back, Valeford’s gonna press his greasy glans to Duster’s expansive nasal cavern and get to work coating the walls of his olfactory passages with his own foul, fetid, fishy sludge for the ferret to savor long after they’ve said their goodnights…!
But does Valeford care that he’s being used to sate the degenerate desires of two stink-lusting mustelids? Not at all! He knows who he is. He knows what he is. If his stink keeps the people who only want to change him away and attracts the people who want him for who he is, then either beat it, hold your nose, or find a spot and get the fuck in there!
