always been kinda embarrassed about this particular fetish of mine and I’m not entirely sure why! It’s actually one of the oldest ones I’ve had, right next to paws. When I think of beast-like creatures, I always imagined their breath would smell particularly bad, especially ferals. I mean, come on, they’re animals! And when you love a beast, you gotta love his halitosis, no matter how unbelievably wretched it is. Before you ask, the rat is just some stand-in character for myself I made up on the fly as I drew this, so it’s nobody in particular.\n\nNonetheless, he’s living a fantasy of mine I’ve entertained rather frequently. Red XIII/Nanaki is such a kind, loyal, noble, and sensitive soul. But despite all his intelligence, he’s still a beast in body, and with it come certain features-- ones he sees as flaws with his evolved intellect, but ones I see very, VERY much as gifts! There was a series of short stories called On the Way to a Smile which took place after the events of FFVII, detailing each of the characters’ lives after the Meteor crisis. In Nanaki’s story, he’s struggling to figure out whether he belongs in civilized society or in the wild, as well as coming to terms with the fact he will live hundreds of years longer than his human companions. He decides to take his grandfather’s advice and travel the world to find the answers he seeks. Who knows what places Nanaki went or people he met during his centuries-long life of discovery?\n\nIf I could be an inhabitant of his world, I’d be more than happy to help him reconcile his bestial form with his higher intellect! Sure, maybe I’d convince him that there are aspects to both he should embrace to make peace with his feral stature… And maaybe the first step is convincing Nanaki to return to a diet entirely of red meat as his kind would eat in the wild… And maaaybe that also includes tossing any apparatus Nanaki traveled with which could clean his tongue or teeth… And maaaaybe Nanaki’s “progress” is measured by how much of a swampy grime has accumulated on his tongue and how yellow his fangs have been stained by the greasy film coating them… And maaaaaybe I examine Nanaki’s “progress” by telling him to open his muzzle and sticking my nose deep inside as he exhales in deep, long, heavy heaves, so I may flood my nostrils with his bitter, rotten, sewagey breath… And maaaaaaybe I tell Nanaki to force out as many deep, rumbling belches as he can at the same time, so the already-eye-wateringly-rank fumes wafting through his polluted maw are tinged even further with digestive stenches from his stomach so fetid they burn my nasal passages… And maaaaaaaybe I snort droplets of his squalid, sludge-like drool as they’re blown from his throat and filth-coated tongue, lining the inside of my nostrils with the bacteria-rich matter that’s turned his muzzle into a reeking, putrefying cesspit... All so I can savor the wonderfully disgusting repulsiveness of Nanaki’s rancid halitosis as long as I can! Naturally, these progress checks will take place in the morning immediately after he wakes up, though extra examinations can be made by hovering my nose in front of his fuzzy lips as he’s fast asleep.
