"You mean we have to use the cannon to launch ourselves?!" Bowser Jr asked incredulously.
Bowser nodded, noticing the doubt in his son's tone, "Yep. You don't have to come with me, it is a long dive. I'll get the star myself and come pick you up afterwards."
"No dad, I'm coming with you." His son replies back to him.
"Alright, let me go first." Bowser smiled, although somewhat worried for his son's safety. He hopped into the cannon and squeezed in, positioned himself as the cannon slowly moved and then blasted him over the water as he landed into the cage and submerged with a humongous splash, the size of which made Bowser Jr laugh as his dad surfaced.
Bowser gasped as he surfaced, shaking the water out of his hair as he waved to his son, "Come on, son. It's fun!"
The younger dino jumped into the cannon and braced himself as the mechanisms whirred and clicked, waiting for the inevitable until...
BOOM
He was launched high in the air and into the cage as he landed into the water head first. After reorientating himself, swam to the surface and gasped, drawing in some air.
Bowser laughed and gave his son a firm slap on the back, "That was great, you really flew there!"
His son nervously laughed as he noticed the tunnel below him, taking a gulp as his dad asked, "Okay, this is probably the hardest bit. We're going to be underwater for a while and I don't want to scare you, but we won't be able to breathe until we get into the town. Are you sure you'll be okay?"
Bowser Jr hesitated for a bit as his dad looked at him with concern, the young dino looking at him and nodding, "Yeah, I'll be okay."
Bowser hugged his son tight, "You'll do great son, I know you will!" The two looked down at the tunnel, as Bowser took his son's hands, "But promise me that no matter what happens, take the biggest, deepest breath you can take and never let go of it, and please stay close to me."
"Okay dad, but I'm not sure if I can swim that long."
"Just hold onto my hand and I'll swim for you, okay?"
Bowser Jr nodded and took his dad's hand as he said, "Right, we'll dive on three. One... two... three!"
They took deep breaths and dove under the surface and down into the deep waters of the Wet Dry World downtown, into the tunnel as they saw it stretched out far. Bowser Jr looked up at the surface, wondering whether he should bail but shook his head, knowing he had to be with his dad.
They took off down the tunnel, kicking their legs as Bowser pumped himself with his free hand, his son gripping his claw as he kicked his legs, letting out a few bubbles past his nostrils, pooling on the ceiling above. The water got a bit darker as they swam deeper, looking around as the arrows on the floor showed them the way, despite it being a straight tunnel.
Bowser Jr soon felt the struggle as they kept swimming for what felt like a minute or so, gripping his throat as he coughed out some air. His dad looked at him, his member flopping around as he kicked, but his son looked up and smiled, letting go of his throat.
They kept kicking down the long tunnels of the town, wondering how much further they had to swim, their nude bodies now closer for warmth as the water grew colder, their swim now reaching its second minute.
By this point, Bowser Jr had reached his limits, his slow, gurgly coughs now grew into long, strained exhales, his lungs were on fire as he swam on. His dad let go of his hand and pulled him to his side, hugging him close as his own lungs were starting to protest.
The two eventually weaved past the grates and into the town, now all they had to do was find the switch to drain the town. And with Bowser Jr hugging his dad's back drained of air, this wasn't going to be easy.
"Mmbngblbl!!"
"Nggbl, jubt holbld ongb..."
