"I can hold my breath longer than you!"
"You so can't, you're too little to beat me!"

"Children, whatever is the matter?" Gardevoir asked with a smile.
"Kirlia said she could hold her breath longer than I can!" Ralts replied.
"Because I can, duh!" Kirlia retorted with a smirk.
"No way, I can hold my breath longer!"
Gardevoir shook her head, "Darlings, please. There's no need to bicker. Why don't you go down and find out for yourself?"
"Yeah, we should! That'll prove you can hold their breath the longest!" Kirlia smiled, a glint of excitement in her eyes.
"Why don't you join us, mom? If I can't hold my breath longer than Sis, I can at least out breathhold you!" Ralts exclaimed.
Gardevoir smirked, "I don't know, I haven't dove in a while..."
"Come on mom, please?!" Kirlia pleaded.
With a smile on her face, the mother said, "Deep breath, sweethearts."
The three took deep breaths and submerged under the cool surface, sinking under the surface and coming to rest on the pool bottom. The two children looked at each other and their mother in anticipation. Ralts thought, "I'll win this for sure, once mom's out of the way, it'll be me and sis!"
As the family knelt under the water, Gardevoir watched patiently as her children started to struggle holding their breaths, making a mental count of their time underwater, "Hm, must be half a minute now."
Kirlia felt her chest convulse slightly as air dribbled from her nose, "Gblblbl..."
She looked at her brother who seemed to be struggling like her, but her mother looked absolutely fine, "Mom's still holding on, hope I can win this..."
A minute had elapsed, and both of the children were looking quite peaky, their cheeks puffing out. Ralts tried to hold his breath in for as long as he could, air seeping from his sealed lips, "Hrrmmgblblhk!"
"N-no way, Mom's still good. I-I can't go on!" He cried mentally.
Kirlia was no worse for wear as Gardevoir looked at her with a warm smile, "Come on, Kirlia. You can do this, you can beat your brother." She probably should've told her kids about her previous job as a professional scuba diver, but felt that wouldn't be fair on her kids.
As she heard her son kick off the pool floor and bolt for the surface, she could only shake her head.
"As you now both know, mother knows best."
