After searching in a cave for gems, even as the place had been marked as dangerous for being home to a very territorial tribe of dragons, the couple had found a bountiful harvest of gemstones to take home. But as they were about to take their leave, they were caught off-guard by sharp pricks to their necks and were quickly unconscious as a result.
Later, they awoke to find themselves locked in a cage, stripped naked and suspended high above a deep pool of water. The couple were threatened by the tribe's leader, who accused them for trespassing and stealing their gems for their own personal gains. After trying to explain why they needed the gems, the dragons still argued of their unauthorised arrival, and were to be punished for their crimes.
The water below swirled with feral aquatic dragons, having been born from a different ilk than the tribal dragons and correctly assumed to be their next snack. Spike asked why they didn't just throw them into the pool rather than cage them up, the simple reply was, "The dragons like to play with their food first..."
Then, the cage was dropped into the water without a second thought and quickly sunk under the water. Spike and Rarity huddled close together, holding their breaths and watching the dragons circle the cage, Rarity trying to use her magic to blast the cage, but was too strong to simply break open.
Then, just as things couldn't get any worse, the chain holding the cage was bitten and ripped apart by the dragons, sealing the fate of the unicorn and young dragon as they sunk into the depths, drowning in their panic.
They had made a horrible mistake.
