...sniffling?
*sniff* "....m-mom?"
Confused, Toriel awoke with a quiet yawn, "Who is there?..."
Her eyes widened to see her son Asriel standing in the door frame naked as she was, tears streaming down his furry cheeks as he tried to wipe them. The queen called out to him in sympathy, "Asriel, what is the matter, are you alright?"
The young prince shook his head, his young form shivering with sadness and apparent fright, "H-had a nightmare... couldn't sleep... *sob*"
The queen raised a hand to her mouth, feeling sorry for the upset child. Asriel was know for being quite emotional, but she was always quite surprised and worried to see Asriel in such a state. She saw his somewhat bloodshot eyes and tired voice, he had been crying for some apparent time. He choked up another sob and asked, "C-can I stay with y-you tonight?"
"Oh, Asriel..." she replied, her voice forlorn and sympathetic towards her son. She looked at her husband's pillow and dragged it besides hers, patting the mattress softly, "Of course you may sleep with me tonight, you are always welcome here, sweetheart."
The child slowly made his way to her large bed and climbed onto the mattress, sinking into its softness. Toriel opened her arms to receive him as he choked another cry and hugged his mom tight, the queen lowering them down onto the pillows as he held onto his mom tight, wrapping his paws around her waist and back. She held onto him in a similar manner, a paw under his arm to support him.
Asriel leant into her collarbone and wept into her fur, Toriel stroking the fur on his head slowly as they sat there quietly. She would wlways let her child finish whatever comfort they needed before asking anything, ensuring they would feel secure and in control. The prince wiped his tears again with his free paw as Toriel asked, "My child, what has upset you?"
Asriel shook his head, "I don't wanna talk about it.."
"Please, Asriel. Do not be afraid. I am here to listen to all your problems." She stroked his head fur again.
"Mom, please..." He sobbed, his tears flowing freely as he grit his eyes shut.
With a comforting smile, she planted a soft peck on her son's nose, making him blush through his sadness. She waited for her son to calm down as he took a few well needed deep breaths, "...promise not to tell Frisk?"
While initially confused by his request, she gave another smile and held him closer, "Of course. What is the matter, my darling Asriel?"
The rest of the night was filled with Asriel pouring out his sadness towards how he's had nightmares over hurting his friends, being harassed by anti-monster groups on the street and stress over not doing his best and losing the trust and love of his friends and family in return. Toriel hugged her son close as he sobbed until he fur, listening to every word her son said as she gave helpful, comforting advice and kind words, telling him how special he is to his friends and how she and their friends love him all very much.
Throughout the night, Asriel seemed to calm down after letting out his problems and eventually fell asleep in his mother's arms. Toriel was pleased that Asriel was sleeping so soundly after his outburst of feelings, but didn't let him go for the rest of the night, holding him close and kissing the remnants of his tears away. While her son may be considered a crybaby to some, to Toriel; he was the sweetest goat she had ever known, and her favourite thing besides his brother in the whole world.
"...and never let anyone tell you differently."
