Asriel and Toriel explored around the brightly lit caverns of Waterfall, dressed down entirely to just their nude forms, hand in hand as they traversed deep into the caverns, surrounded by the brightly lit waters around them. The young prince looked up to his mother and gave a smile, but still had a puzzled look cross his face all the same.
The queen asked her son, "Are you okay, darling? You have been looking rather puzzled for a while now."
Asriel looked up and replied, "Oh, it's just that I'm wondering where we are going."
"Nowhere in particular," Toriel chuckled, "Just for a walk together, that's all."
"But why do we have to go naked, exactly?" The child questioned.
The older caprine looked at the lakes and streams around them, feeling the heat from the glowing waters around them, "Well, we might go for a swim afterwards. Would you like that?"
Asriel nodded happily, "Sure would, I can show you how long I can hold my breath!"
Toriel giggled as she ruffled her son's fur, "I am sure it will be very long indeed, you are my little mer-goat, you know that?"
The child nodded and laughed back, walking along as the soft grass brushed against their feet, feeling the water's heat comfort and cuddle their nude bodies. Asriel began to get excited, he always liked swimming and was learning how to swim underwater very effectively thanks to lessons from Undyne. The young prince was always a sort of water child, having grown affection for it at a very young age when he was taken to the castle swimming baths for the first time and immediately enjoying whenever he dipped under the water, even though at that age he wasn't a capable swimmer. But thanks to Undyne, that all changed and was very much accustomed to the water and how to swim.
But, just as they were walking along, the ground started to rumble around them as they struggled to keep their balance. Asriel panicked and looked at his mom, "Mom, what's happening?!"
"An earthquake, we must find somewhere safe!" She called out, gripping his hand tighter.
Soon, rocks and stalactites from the ceiling started shifting loose and fell around them. Rather than stand around and risk getting flattened by the rocks, she looked to the pool of water besides them, finding it was quite deep and the water would break the fall of the rocks. She pointed to the pool and scooped up the child in her arms, "In the water over there! Take a deep breath, Asriel!"
She leapt into the pool with a sharp breath and splashed into the pool, looking around as the bubbles cleared. Toriel looked at her son, thankfully holding onto her and holding his breath, as she swam to a wall and pinned themselves against it. She held the child even closer as he buried his head into her collarbone, the queen watching the surface for further rocks. She could not see much thanks to the ripples and water displacement, but she did spot a huge bunch of rocks tumbling towards then and held her child tighter than she ever could, burying his face into her cleavage.
The rocks barreled into the water and shifted the current, the couple being swept from the wall and were tossed around the pool, still holding onto each other tightly as the rocks splashed in one after another. Soon, the chaos ended as the earthquake faded and the current stopped swirling the two around, Toriel looking around and noticing the once visible surface was now completely covered with large rocks. Asriel arose from his fetal hug and noticed the ceiling too. The two were completely trapped under the water, their only means of escape covered with huge, heavy boulders.
They broke the hug as Toriel kicked up to the new makeshift ceiling, her air bubbles pooling on the rough surface of the boulders. She began feeling around the rock, running its coarse surface with her palm as Asriel began doing the same. The queen began to panic as with each push she tried against the boulders, they would not budge, they were simply too heavy for her to shift. "Nngbl! Hmngblgkhl!!"
Asriel noticed this too, even swimming around and trying to find smaller rocks to shift and make an opening, but there were none to move or jimmy from the pile above them. The young prince began to panic, beating his fists against the rock and crying out in an anguished gurgle, "Noooghbl, NOOGHBLBL!!"
He then felt his mother take his hands as he tried to escape her grasp, but she gave a firm look as he calmed himself down. She gave a warm, comforting smile and pressed a finger to his lips before pointing to her eyes, her mind saying to the troubled caprine, "Look at me, Asriel. We are going to get out of here, I promise..."
She tried to move the rocks around his area, Asriel doing the same, but the young goat's lungs were starting to give out. They had been submerged for what felt like well over a minute, possibly even two, and the young prince was almost crying out for fresh air. Toriel felt the strain as well, but was able to hold out longer than her son, who clutched his throat in desperation as bubbles flowed from his pursed lips, "Mmmblblbl!... MMMGBLBL!!"
She continued to pound wearily on the rocks, her breasts rippling with each pump of her legs, her fire magic would not be much use underwater so her options were limited besides her bare strength, but even then that wouldn't help much. She was quite a strong caprine herself, but she was not her husband. His strength would surely move the rocks, but the combined strength of her and her eight year old son would not even come close to what they needed to escape.
Then, Asriel began to choke on the waters of the pool, his lung capacity reaching breaking point, clutching his throat as his free hand released its grip from the ceiling, his legs kicking wildly, his chest convulsing, "Hnrk... Mmglb... GHLK! NNGHLAGKBL!!"
The two Dreemurs were trapped under the surface, their air now running out between them. Even if Toriel were to share her air with her son, it would only delay the inevitable for him,but her motherly instincts would make her do so either way. But even with the gesture, Toriel was losing hope they would ever get free, her son's weakening gurgles proving a sign that all was lost. It would be a matter of time before the both of them would succumb to their tired, aching lungs and draw a watery breath.
Toriel and Asriel were totally trapped, alone, and soon to be lost...
