It was a warm sunny day, with not a cloud in the sky. Birds could be heard singing their songs, the noises of insects mixing with them. On the river bank lay a young otter called Deyna. He was taking a short rest, after all he had been travelling hard for three days straight without rest. His story had begun, little did he know that his actions would one day change the world! One paw lay on the handle of his dagger, a silver blade with a red ruby set in the handle. He had taken it when he had fled from home, it had belong to his mother and was handed down from generation to generation. Two creatures were watching him from the trees nearby, a fox and a squirrel. "What do ya think Lann?" the female squirrel asked. Lann the fox stroked his chin. "Hmm, a lone otter. He shouldn't be that hard to take down. Let's be quiet and kill him while he sleeps, eh June?" he said, smiling evilly at his companion. She grinned back at him, silently taking a small knife. "Heh heh, I like it! Lets go mate!" The two of them crept silently towards the sleeping otter then froze as he sat up and streched out his arms. "Ahhh, that's better! Didn't you know it's not nice to sneak up on someone while they sleep?" said Deyna, as he turned his head towards the would be killers. Deyna took in every detail of their appearences, like his mother, a warrior, had taught him. The squirrel looked about the same age as him, had red fur and was wearing a dark green tunic with brown shorts and was barepawed. The fox looked a little older and was quite tall, he was wearing a black jacket which was open revealing his chest and blue trousers and was barepawed like his companion. They stood motionless, a little shocked that the otter had heared them coming, then quickly adopted battle stances as Deyna stood and unsheathed his dagger. Deyna was a tall otter and had dark brown fur covering most of his body. He wore light blue three quarter trousers and a slver tailring only, his chest was bare revealing his light brwon fur there, his eyes were his most suprising feature though, they were an incredibly bright green. Deyna grinned at the pair as he twirled his dagger. Now now, you wouldn't want me to use this would you?" he said calmly. "Heh, tough talk for one on his own!" said Lann, regaining his composure. Deyna merely smiled back, making the fox feel a little uneasy. Something in that smile made him nervous for some reason. "Well, if you think that, then come and try" Deyna said calmly. "HAAAAA!" June the squirrel dived into the air towards Deyna, and the fox sped in from under her tail. Normally, this tactic would have worked and Deyna would have been dead in a second, though Deyna was no ordinary traveller. He quickly fell to the ground and used his hands to catch June and use her momentum to throw her into the river and at the same time used his feet to kick Lann in his stomach. Winded, the fox fell down. Deyna stood up and watched as June splashed around before staggering onto the bank, her fur soaking wet. "Why do you not finish us?" Lann asked, panting and clutching his stomach. Deyna shrugged. "I dunno. Not in the mood I guess." The fox smiled and laughed. "Haha, you hear this June? He's not in the mood to kill us!" June walked up to his side and helped him stand up. "Are you badly hurt?" she asked. Deyna could hear the worry in her voice. Lann shook his head. "Nah. That's one hell of a kick you got there!" he said, smiling at Deyna. Deyna smiled back. "Just be glad I didn't use my tail. Now that I've spared you I want some information from you." "Alright, shoot." said Lann. "First off, who are you?" "I'm Lann, and this is June. Used to live in Elendor, long story short, we got exiled and got a bounty put on us." Deyna stroked his chin. "A bounty? What for?" he asked curious. "Now that I'm not telling!" said the fox. "A guys got to have some secrets you know!" "Fair enough. Now why were you attacking me?" June lookd at Deyna's dagger. "It's cause of that dagger your carrying. You looked rich cause of it. See, we only rob rich travellers, ones who can afford to eat." Deyna waved his paw. "So your bandits? You know I should kill you, but I'll let you go if you tell me one more thing." "What is it now?" Lann groaned. "I'm heading to Elendor but I'm a little lost. Which way is it?" Lann pointed in a western direction. "It's about two days that way, go through the woods a bit longer and you'll come to a path, follow it and you'll get there." "OK, thanks." said Deyna as he sheathed his dagger. "By the way, I wouldn't even dream about attacking me again cause next time, I really will kill you." He left the pair by the riverbank as he walked into the woods without another word. He kept to the shadows of the trees where he could, just incase the pair were following him but after a while it was clear that they weren't. After about half an hour of walking through the tree's the otter came to the path. To his left was the outskirts of the forest he had just walkied through and to his right was a meadow filled with flowers. Deyna smiled at the pretty sight. There was a sign on the fence surrounding the meadow, Deyna walked up to it. It pointed two ways, the right sign pointed to Kaylin, which Deyna knew was a small village and the left pointed to where he was going, Elendor. Happy that he knew the way Deyna started walking, enjoying the cool breeze and the sunshine.
