Ekment or Ecment? Basic Description: Sentient ectoplasmic entity created from lost thoughts. -Extended Description- Creation: Standard ghosts are known to either be the spirits of the dead, often corrupted and loosing all sense of a previous self, or an animation of the memories of the dead, also commonly corrupted from any previous known living self or selves. Very, VERY rarely though do the memories of the living become embodied in the form of a ghost, and even then they are typically temporary emanations that do not last for very long. However, even rarer is when less than even a simple memory(perhaps an idea or an emotion) manifests into an ecto based form. This rare beyond rare occurence is capable of developing into a species that has been dubbed Ekment. When a living thought comes into contact with loose ecto death matter, there is a vague chance that the thought could grow and develop, slowly becoming a mind of sorts. This mind may only turn out to be animalistic in nature, generating simple thought processes such as hunger or lust and ultimatley becoming a single minded monstrosity. The most incredible chance however can lead to a more sophisticated mindset, like that of a young child. Just as a child can learn and grow into an adult, so too can this type of mind. It can become fully self-aware and make complex decisions, creating a form of it's own from the ooze of it's own living containment. This is how an Ekment comes into being. Personality: Due to an Ekment's development process, many factors go into the type of personality these creatures may have. As the typical growing place of an Ekment is usually a place where the restless dead haunt, those spirits and memories will have the greatest influence in this regard. It is unknown at this time how a change in environment will affect an Ekment, or if it is even possible for one to grow outside of the usual habitat. The only currently known Ekment in existence is Ektiese. She is considered to be a prankster and nymph, but also kind and somewhat thoughtful of others despite her behaviour. The full means why which these traits have come to develop are currently unknown. Gender: Ekments are shapeshifters, and as such they do not have a true gender and thus any sense of being either male, female, or a certain combination of both in physical nature is more out of a desire to emulate one or the other depending, once again, on their development and/or changing mindset over the course of time. Abilities: Due to lack of proper study it is diffcult to determine the full range of capabilities that Ekments have at their command. The most that can be theorized based of observations of the one known as Ektiese are; shifting between physical and etherial form, passing through solid objects at will, excretion of ectoplasm, and mass/shape-shifting all based on ectoplasm contaiment levels. It is unknown at this time whether Ektiese's abilities to re-animate, read and/or alter the memories of the dead is a universal ability amongst Ekments, or is unique to herself. Lifespan: Unlike regular ghosts, Ekments have no special ties to either the realm of the living or dead, so while their entire existense is dependent on ecto, these creatures cannot produce the substance on their own. They must therefore depend on outside forces to provide this substance for them. Depending on an Ekment's useage of their abilities will depend on how long they continue to function normaly before requiring an injection of ectoplasm into their essense. It is currently unknown if an Ekment will fully cease to exist if too much ectoplasm is expended from their being, but it is highly probable. Conservation of this element is highly recommended! Reproduction: Due to the nature of how Ekments come into being, coupled with the fact that despite appearance Ekments are a genderless species, the ability to truly reproduce in any manner is currently unknown. It is theorized, though not confirmed, that an Ekment is capable of making other, lesser Ekments as extenssions of their own will, but not fully recreate or maintain another Ekment indefinitely. Notes: No specific mention was made as to the typical body shape or color of a given Ekment due to their shapeshifting nature. Ektiese herself has taken the shape and color of a dark grey skinned female anthromorph with a tail and red and green hair, but beyond those details she tends to keep changing other details of her person to suit how she wishes to look at a given time. It is entirely possible for an Ekment to take on any shape or color it desires, with the only constant that remains to be seen is that any ectoplasmic excrection will be seen as a green slime.
